The people in the audience of your fundraising event are largely strangers to each other, and that impersonal relationship impacts their giving as a whole. You’ll be happy to know that there are steps you can take to remove some of the roadblocks, increase their engagement with each other and their connection to your charity. Attendees will review lessons learned from the Olympic Games and how to use those lessons in fundraising for their organization. Concepts covered include working as a team (even in a one-person shop), setting goals and managing expectations, seeing donors as your teammates, and sportsmanship.

The Gala Team is based in Denver, includes six auctioneers and three Gala Consultants.

Reggie's company will assist with about 125 benefit auctions in 2019.

GAYlE POTTlE, CFRE Director of Philanthropy, Centura health Gayle’s career encompasses ten years in Fortune 15 endeavors where she built a global innovation center. Her heart drew her to nonprofit work where she has served for 12 years in board / staff capacities. As Director of Philanthropy for Centura Health, Gayle coalesces engagement to optimize missional impact. She recently delivered Centura’s CRISSIE Talk to 21,000 employees titled “Imagination: The Antidote to Fear.” Baseball, reading, collecting art and mentoring are her passions. Gayle guest-blogs and speaks on topics including women in leadership, strategic fundraising, work-life balance and mentoring. Gayle and her husband Hal are parents of two children.

EllEN REID Executive Director, keystone Science School Ellen Reid grew up in Orlando, Florida and still has trouble seeing the world without the “Walt Disney World” lens. Heading west to college at The University of Colorado changed her life and helped her discover the beauty of learning and playing in the outdoors.

While she used to enjoy long walks on the beach, she now prefers trail running in the mountains and trying to make kids laugh at any chance she can. She’s an introvert with a passion for outdoor education and philanthropy and somehow has figured out how to make a living doing both as the Executive Director for Keystone Science School.

Zach Hochstadt and Abbey Meyers, “Statistics and Stories: Achieving Balance in your Case for Support” Located in Peaks 9-10 (All levels)

Whether an organization is considering a capital or endowment campaign or is already in one, this session will outline the steps staff and board can use for a stronger campaign case. Many leaders wrongly believe that mission-based needs alone will stoke donor support. In fact, the most successful leaders know that their fundraising campaign will be most effective when their communications carefully balance the right mix of reason with emotion and urgency. This lively session features rich examples to help organizations up their fundraising campaign game so that donors are both excited and engaged.

Elena Harman, “Making Connections: The Intersection of Evaluation and Fundraising” Located in Peaks 11-12 (All levels)

As a fundraising pro, you excel in building relationships...but what about pesky evaluation questions? More and more often we see questions on grant applications like, “What are the measurable outcomes your nonprofit is expecting to achieve?” and hear questions from donors such as, “How will I know my dollars are making a difference?” We’ll help you tackle this intersection between fundraising and evaluation: helping you to think about, talk about, and use evaluation differently. You will leave the session with concrete tools to use evaluation as a powerful tool that sets you apart from all other funding requests.

SPEAkERS ANThONY AlONSO President of Catapult Fundraising Anthony has over 30 years of experience in direct marketing, with experience in the education, health care, social services and arts markets. He has worked with the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation, the U.S. Military Academy Association of Graduates, The Betty Ford Center, and the Hill School. Mr. Alonso served on the AFP Foundation Board, was a founding member of the AFP Industry Partners Council, has served on the AFP N.J. Chapter board, and is the current VP of AFP Las Vegas. He has provided pro-bono calling services to a myriad of organizations, including the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy. His clients have successfully raised over $250 million within the last ďŹ ve years from the lower end of the donor pyramid.

JuDY AlTENBERG Director of Gift Planning and Advisor Relations, Rose Community Foundation Judy provides guidance, training and facilitation for donors, fund advisors and those planning charitable bequests and has helped nonproďŹ t organizations launch and grow their endowments. Judy has been involved with the Foundation since 2007, serving as a trustee and committee chair. She has held fundraising positions with Jewish Federations of North America and JEWISHColorado and served as board chair of the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation. Judy currently chairs the national Lion of Judah 25th Anniversary Endowment Initiative to encourage growth of endowments in local Jewish federations.

AlICE FERRIS, mBA, CFRE, ACFRE Founding Partner, GoalBusters Alice has almost 30 years of professional fundraising experience.

She specializes in strategic and development planning, board development, annual giving, nonprofit operations and public broadcasting hosting. Alice serves on the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) credentialing board, the AFP Northern Arizona board, and the Bolz Center for Arts Administration Advisory Board at the Wisconsin School of Business. She is a three-time honoree as AFP-Northern Arizona Fundraising Professional of the Year and earned her CFRE in 1999 and her ACFRE in 2010. Alice is an experienced international speaker and AFP master trainer.

kEYNOTE SPEAkER kEYNOTE SPEAkER vu lE Vu Le (“voo lay”) is a writer, speaker, vegan, Pisces, and the Executive Director of Rainier Valley Corps, a nonprofit in Seattle that promotes social justice by developing leaders of color, strengthening organizations led by communities of color, and fostering collaboration between diverse communities. Vu’s passion to make the world better, combined with a low score on the Law School Admission Test, drove him into the field of nonprofit work, where he learned that we should take the work seriously, but not ourselves. There’s tons of humor in the nonprofit world, and someone needs to document it. He is going to do that, with the hope that one day, a TV producer will see how cool and interesting our field is and make a show about nonprofit work, featuring attractive actors attending strategic planning meetings and filing 990 tax forms. Known for his no-BS approach, irreverent sense of humor, and love of unicorns, Vu has been featured in dozens, if not hundreds, of his own blog posts at NonprofitAF.com, formerly nonprofitwithballs.com.
