4.0 224-244 Regent Street - London

Transformation of a faded, Grade ll Listed department store into a thriving, mixed-use development in the heart of the West End. The main Dickins & Jones department store traded here for just over 170 years. This important building is now completely transformed with a well considered remodelling design and complete refurbishment. It now provides prime office space to the upper floors, flag ship retail space to the lower floors and a roof-top restaurant and terrace with stunning panoramic views.

Our analysis of the prominent island site, on one of London’s busiest shopping streets, and its context, revealed a unique series of constraints and complexities. Prime retail space fronts on to the main shopping artery of Regent Street as well as Great Marlborough Street and Little Argyll Street. The new office accommodation reception is located on Argyll Street. Key features were retained in the retail space to appeal to international retailers wishing to create something special for a principal UK store.

Role: The team consisted of five architects and a director. I assisted in drawing up existing and proposed plans, elevations, and sections. Designing and detailing the bridge and walkway that accesses the upper floors of the office was one of my tasks. The curved bridge walkway was a product of many designs before we were satisfied. Designing, modeling, and photoshopping up elevation for the DAS. It was a challenge to connect the old with the new when detailing the building with the team in the later stages.

5.0 Tabard Square - London

Tabard Square is an Urban Regeneration mixed use, residential led development. It provides 572 apartments of which 212 are affordable. At its heart it provides London with a new public square accessible to all, with a mix of uses at ground level encouraging city life and vitality. Gym, crèche, supermarket, retail, and office uses surround the square with a sculptural restaurant acting as the central focus. A residential tower in the NW corner of the square is the landmark for the development and a beacon for regeneration for the Borough area.

Role: To help with this job, was put on a team to draw details in AutoCAD. Learning about modern housing through this project was a great experience for me. There were many meetings and site visits to resolve problems. The edges of slab drawings as well as the openings for downpipes are drawn by me. I got to work on detailing and designing and detailed the pavilion in the main square. This project was very interesting as we worked with Atlas Industries in Vietnam where worked previously.
