COVET INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 2021 The Covet International awards contest submission will open in january for entries of interior design projects that elevate design and craftmanship.

Sponsored by covet house, and having as partners the brhands foundation, the mission of this contest is to find the world’s most outstanding projects where design modernizes craftmanship.

The organizer is looking for projects that value the fine arts & crafts at a 2.0 level, resulting in luxurious, functional and individual spaces that get their richness from reviving ancient arts and crafts.

This is the second covet international awards, after the successful Covet Awards Milan and Paris that since 2016 have been selecting and promoting the best product designs showcased on the two design capitals.

Iniziando con la copertina dedicata a Fabio Mancini uno dei top model più famosi a livello mondiale, nonché testimonial di “re” Giorgio Armani da oltre dieci anni.

FOR MY FIRST BURBERRY MENSWEAR-FOCUSED COLLECTION, I WANTED TO CELEBRATE THE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. ENCLOSED INDOORS, I DREAMT OF THE OUTDOORS AND ITS BEAUTY, FUELLED BY THE THOUGHT OF THE CREATIVITY THAT COMES WHEN WE ARE TOGETHER. With this dream in mind, I became fascinated by the widespread British craft and outdoor movements of the early 20th Century, when people escaped to explore the unknown countryside. They formed communities with a deep respect for nature and the outdoors and looked forward to a future full of possibility. I was not only drawn to the artistry of their craft, colours and shapes, but also to their strong sense of camaraderie and friendship.

This collection is an homage to the relationship between humanity and nature, where we can break free and come together to discover new forms of expression. It’s for those who are defining their own path, whose strength and energy have inspired this Burberry collection.

Riccardo Tisci, Burberry Chief Creative Officer The Burberry Autumn/Winter 2021 menswear collection by Riccardo Tisci honours a deep connection to the outdoors, to creativity, to dreams. The

presentation explores a new environment within Burberry’s flagship Regent Street store in London the space is reconfigured as a wandering terrain.

The menswear collection gently challenges and subtly reinvents traditions, inviting freedom of expression. The collection itself is dynamic and young, vibrant and alive. Outerwear is key. Clothes are engineered to reflect motion and activity - with pleats, panels and fringes - as if moving in the wind.

Layered pieces morph unexpectedly on the body.

Tailoring has a sense of twisted classicism, whilst Burberry’s quintessential house codes - the trench coat and Burberry beige - are evolved.

The Burberry animal kingdom, a signature house code, is once again revisited through prints and shapes - a nod to the wilderness and the creatures within. Deer motifs inspire the silhouettes of knitted beanies, whilst boots and sneakers on moulded soles are also sculpted to resemble hooves. The collection’s distinct palette is tonal and rich, including Burberry beige, bark brown, oxblood burgundy, city greys and shirting shades of pale blue and pink.

Details and decoration evoke the notion of ceremony through badges and adornments - symbolising community and friendship, codes of belonging.

The presentation location itself has a rich history of supporting craftsmanship and artistic expression: historically, 121 Regent Street was the site of an eminent gallery with its inaugural exhibition dedicated to arts and crafts. Today, this legacy is honoured, as the menswear collection is exhibited through a modern presentation in this same environment.

Tied intrinsically to founder Thomas Burberry’s creations, the idea of optimism and adventure underscores the collection. Modern explorers, pioneers and trailblazers are an inspiration; the garments have a function and purpose. They represent a reality but they are always worn by dreamers.

The AW21 collection design process and aesthetic came out of our lockdown experience, making us want to feel safe and secure whilst taking the time to dream.

The start of the collection was the easy comfortable knits and coats that you can wrap yourself in as to create a warm safe cocoon - the elements of our Preen Home line became organically incorporated into this collection in the form of quilted floral print scarfs and wraps. We designed lounge dresses with an effortless relaxed style whilst still obtaining its signature Preen heritage. The collection has loosely been inspired by a feeling of being ‘unhinged’ (a feeling many of us feel during enforced isolation).

We watched the original ‘Grey Gardens’, inspired by Little Edie, who enjoyed the concept of ’even if you don’t go out, you can go out in your mind. Dressing up at home with nowhere to go thus letting your imagination and love of style take you there. Sustainable fabrics were at the core of this collection, using recycled materials and deadstock. All is made to order with limited runs, continuing our contribution to a sustainable planet and to our industry.

THIS LONDON FASHION WEEK, SUSTAINABLE FASHION DESIGNER, ARTIST AND HUMANITARIAN, BETHANY WILLIAMS, WILL PRESENT HER GENDER NEUTRAL CAPSULE COAT COLLECTION, EXCLUSIVELY FOR SELFRIDGES. As with every collection and project Bethany works on, the social and environmental issues go hand in hand. “This particular project was inspired by our ongoing work with The Magpie Project, a charity that supports women and children under five in temporary, unsuitable or no accommodation. The Women’s Institute community creates a personal blanket for every baby born into the Magpie Family.

A blanket is so much more than a piece of fabric, it is a feeling of comfort and shelter and I wanted that feeling to be at the heart of this capsule collection.” Bethany Williams Drawing on her inspiration, the collection saw Bethany dive into the historical heritage of vintage and antique wool blankets from across the UK. All the blankets are carefully sourced from vintage sellers, whether that’s Antiques Markets or car boot sales. Steeped in history, each blanket sourced tells a story from the textile and weaving techniques, to the county, town or village it was made in. One of her favourite pieces sourced for the collection was found on a pitch black frosty morning at Sunbury Antiques Market at Kempton Racecourse. With her phone touch as her only source of light she came across a rare and usually very expensive Welsh, patterned wool blanket with brightly coloured pink and orange patches.

With this collection, the story continues, as each blanket is given a new lease of life through Bethany’s artistic vision and mastering of design-led upcycling techniques, which created this capsule collection. Shapes for the details on each garment come from historical research into childrenswear that she explored with the V&A Museum of Childhood. The complimentary colour palettes, slightly oversized fit and skilful patchwork techniques all create a unique, bespoke-feel to each gar-

ment.

Handcrafted in London, the nine upcycled blanket coats are available in three different jacket styles.

Each garment is conceptualised by allocating a specific blanket to each style of jacket based on its weight, thickness and colour. The outer material is the blanket wool for optimal insulation with a 100% organic cotton lining, sourced from Wales.

And the story does not end with the wool that was sourced, each element of these coats has a history.

From the UK sourced organic cotton insulation to the handmade wooden buttons made by craftsman Spencer Martin from London Green Wood, a not for profit cooperative, using Hackney grown wood or waste wood from local tree surgeons.

20% of the profits from this collection will be donated to The Magpie Project via The Bethany Williams Benevolent Fund, a fund set up by The Magpie Project and Bethany Williams London.

Jane Williams, CEO and Founder of The Magpie Project commented, “ Working in partnerships with Bethany Williams and her creative crew is like a dream come true for us, our mums and minis.

Bethany’s NRPF collection brought the issues that blight our families’ lives to the attention of a whole new audience - making change increasingly possible. She lends her spotlight to tell seldom heard stories - empowering and centring those who have previously felt powerless and marginalised.

Now the profits from her collection have become a lifeline for mums in moments of crisis. When a mum was forced to move home with 12 hours notice, the Bethany Williams Benevolent Fund paid for a man with a van, which meant that she did not lose the furniture she had saved and saved to buy. When a mum was forced to flee domestic abuse and was housed in a flat with no beds - the Bethany Williams Benevolent Fund meant that her children did not have to sleep on the floor. We are using the BWBF when no other funds are available to mums - and a surprisingly small amount of money (up to £100 at a time) makes the impossible possible for our mums

and minis.”

This collection is part of Selfridges sustainability initiative, Project Earth, committed to putting sustainability in the heart of the business and reinventing the way we shop.

PRIYA AHLUWALIA RECEIVES THE QUEEN ELIZABETH II AWARD FOR BRITISH DESIGN British Fashion Council (BFC) is delighted to announce that Priya Ahluwalia of Ahluwalia, is the recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. The Award was presented by Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, during a virtual event.

Ahluwalia is recognised for her active contribution to changing the industry for the better, her work in pioneering responsible sourcing and manufacturing techniques, while telling the stories of those who make her clothes and the communities she works with.

The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design was initiated in recognition of the role the fashion industry plays in society and diplomacy and the movement of young designers that are both talented and making a difference to society through either sustainable practices or community engagement.

The inaugural Award was announced and presen-

ted to Richard Quinn in February 2018 when The Queen made Her Majesty’s first visit to London Fashion Week. In 2019, the prestigious Award was presented to Bethany Williams by The Duchess of Cornwall and in 2020 to Rosh Mahtani by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.

With sustainability and ethical practice always at the heart of the design process, Ahluwalia has been chosen for her focus on craftsmanship and community. Her sustainably minded menswear collections, made of dead stock and repurposed locally sourced vintage materials, combine elements and influences from her Nigerian and Indian heritage, making her designs truly unique.

She is a progressive thinking leader and agent for change who has used her platform to raise awareness around the challenges of the Black community, especially in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Caroline Rush CBE, Chief Executive British Fashion Council (BFC) commented: “We are delighted to announce Priya Ahluwalia as the fourth recipient of

the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. Ahluwalia’s unique and ethical design process combined with her ability and passion to give back to communities around London and the globe make her an inspiration for many young British designers. We are incredibly proud to recognise Priya and look forward to seeing her business grow.”

Ahluwalia launched her eponymous label in 2018, after graduating from the MA Menswear course at The University of Westminster and winning the H&M Design Award 2019. In 2019, Ahluwalia was a recipient of BFC’s 2019/2020 NEWGEN initiative, the most established designer development scheme globally supporting the very best emerging talent.

In 2020, Ahluwalia became one of the eight brands to win the LVMH Prize 2020 and was noted on the Forbes 30 under 30 on the European Arts and Culture List.

The label also became part of the Matches Fashion’s Innovators programme which champions emerging design talent through mentorship, preferential business terms and marketing. In November it was announced that Ahluwalia would be taking part in GUCCI Fest and showcasing their first feature film,

Joy, with Gucci’s support. In December 2020, Ahluwalia was named a People Honouree at The Fashion Awards.

Each year a designer is selected by the BFC, in collaboration with the Royal Household, to be recognised by the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. The Award, designed by Angela Kelly, inspired by The Queen Elizabeth rose, has been handproduced by Lucy Price at Bauhinia Studios and in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter.

Paris Men’s Fashion Week

IF MILAN MEN’S FASHION WEEK FALL / WINTER 2021 WAS TO BE A PRAGMATIC PROPOSAL OF FUTURE DRESS, ITS PARISIAN COUNTERPART IS THE COMPLETE HYPER-C ONCEPTUAL OPPOSITE. PHYGITAL FORMAT ASIDE, THE VAST MAJORITY OF PRESENTATIONS CUT COVID-19 OUT OF THE CREATIVE EQUATION, NIXING DESIGN INPUT FROM THE VIRUS. Depending on how your relationship with getting dressed has shifted through lockdowns, this may or may not appeal to you. However, whether you’re taking Zoom calls in Calvin’s or Comme des Garçons, if you love fashion you’ve likely missed runway shows not about isolation, impending doom, the apocalypse, or anything else COVID-19 related.

Back in November, Paris’ Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode announced alongside The British Fashion Council and Florence’s Pitti Uomo trade fair a 2021 fashion week schedule amidst pandemic lockdowns. Since then, government restrictions have waxed and waned, but ultimately it’s not surprising the majority of this year’s presentations in Paris were digital. The 126-year-old house of Berluti was tasked with kicking off the week and though it presented a (very) short film

entitled “Living Apart Together” it did not actually show its Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Instead the heritage house took a tongue-in-cheek approach, revealing fractions of colorfully dyed cashmere hats, matching wooly sweaters, and sleek dress shoes over the 1 minute, 1 second long video. To top it off, the clip concluded by announcing the debut of the collection would actually take place on March 5, in Shanghai, long after Paris events have ended and far away from where they took place. Symbolic satire at its finest.

RELYING ALSO ON THE RESEARCH AND DNA OF HIS RESPECTIVE HOUSE WAS KIM JONES. THE DIOR MEN AND NEWLY ANOINTED FENDI WOMEN’S CREATIVE DIRECTOR IS A SOURCE OF EXCITEMENT FOR MANY AT THE MOMENT. Amidst all the hype of his fast approaching Wednesday women’s debut though, Jones is calm, collected, and sticking to past personal recipes for success. One such ingredient is his commitment to artistic collaboration, this time calling on Scottish painter Peter Doig. Autobiographical elements of Doig’s paintings titled “Spearfishing,” “Rain in The Port of Spain,” and “Two Trees” are generously sprinkled throughout, most notably through the orange color choice of overcoats, a knitted lion, various paint-dabbed patterns, and yellow anoraks.

At first glance the combination of suave tailcoats, black rubber wellies, and abstracted maroon camo prints meshed with Doig’s touch may look merely military inspired. However, Jones’ theme for this Men’s Fall/Winter 2021 season was actually influenced by French artists and Marc Bohan’s tenure at Dior. The ceremonial dress required of French creatives inducted into the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris was in fact a tail coat. The eye-catching buttons you thought were upcycled from an ex-navy uniform? Those were actually adapted from a Haute Couture dress designed by Bohan, creative director of Christian Dior in the 1960s.

THE TYPICALLY TRADITIONAL HOUSE OF BERLUTI’S FILM ALSO REVEALED A COMMON THREAD AMONG THE PHYGITAL FASHION WEEK EVENTS. THAT IS, THE ADAPTABILITY AND EVEN EMBRACE OF NEW VIRTUAL MEDIUMS BY BRANDS. ARTISTIC COLLABORATORS RANGED FROM SCOTTISH-BORN PAINTER PETER DOIG FOR DIOR MEN TO AMERICAN HIP-HOP LEGEND, RAPPER YASIIN BEY AKA MOS DEF FOR LOUIS VUITTON. Virgil Abloh’s sixth collection titled Ebonics, explores racism, Eurocentrism, and Abloh’s own personal experience as a Black creator and intelectual. Through snowy mountain tops and a teal marbled maze, director Josh Johnson captured Abloh’s own story, aspirational message, and equally impactful fashion on film. Inspired by James Baldwin’s 1953 essay “Stranger in the Village,” a reflection of how it felt to be a Black American artist in the majority white society of Switzerland, Alboh examines his African heritage sartorially and through the spoken word of Saul Willams and Kai Isiah Jamal.

Ghanian Kente cloth embossed with the LV monogram, tartan checked quilts, crisp white cowboy hats underlaid by silk durags, and 3D European cityscape puffer jackets brought to life the idea embroidered throughout the collection: “Tourist vs Purist.” Abloh has struggled in the past with accusations of mimicking the ideas of others, but

here the designer’s slogan and global exploration of design defends his methodology, questioning to whom ideas, art, and culture really belong.

Berluti, a company within the LVMH luxury behemoth, controls 10 stores in China, where it will shortly open a pop-up on WeChat. We are sure fans in China and elsewhere will dig this collection when they, finally, get to see it. Though it certainly didn’t start the Paris collections with a bang.

VÉRONIQUE NICHANIAN UPDATED HER HERMÈS MAN WITH HOODED PARKAS, LEATHER OVERSHIRTS AND FLEECY JACKETS WITH A SPORTY FLAIR. Many in fashion are playing it safe these days. In tough times, people tend to stick to the tried and tested. Not so Véronique Nichanian who opted to reach outward with her fall collection for Hermès, a house known for hewing close to its traditions and operating at a distance from the buzzy fashion world outside. The success of that strategy - which has kept Hermès independent all these years now seems to be serving as a perch from which to branch out while much of the world folds in on itself.

And branch out she did. Nichanian offered a varied and youthful lineup, updating the look of her famously nonchalant Hermès man with hooded parkas, leather overshirts, sleeveless waistcoats, quilted T-shirts, striped sweater vests and fleecy jackets with a sporty flair.

“Inside-outside, the clothes leave their framework,” read the show notes, describing the hybrid and practical nature of the clothing.Trousers were equally interesting - and attractive - mostly loosely

cut, some tapered, others with wide cuffs; with many drawstring waists and often low crotches. Pockets added to the free-spirited nature of the collection, popping up on sleeves and applied like patchwork, outlined in white stitching on a gray workwear shirt and hidden under the saddle-stitched panel of a leather shirt. A restricted color range kept things from getting too busy, with a lot of neutrals like olive and taupe, but also patches of a pale, muddy yellow and lavender.

For the digital presentation, she teamed again with film producer Cyril Teste. To fill in the dearly missed in-person connection, editors were hand-delivered bags of fresh baked goods - promptly delivered before the show.

Models moved up and down the central staircase of a favorite Hermès show venue, France’s Mobilier National building, which houses state-owned furniture. They paused for conversation, glanced at their phones and mingled, looking cool in colorful, calfskin sneakers while casually toting their tartan tweed Galop Fourre-tout bags.

“Our approach to clothing, now of utmost importance, is currently undergoing a transformation, and my job is to come up with propositions,” said Nichanian, acknowledging deep change in the world.

Connotations of masculine luxury included an enormous floor-length fur coat, matching marbled suit jackets and pants, ribboned top hats, and floor-sweeping wool overcoats in black, white, green, denim, a milk chocolate velvet, and green checkered plaid.

These archetypes of pre-Abloh Louis Vuitton design language mixed with elements of Black culture incorporated through design, dance, music, and poetry make for a truly important collection. Abloh was criticized over this past summer on Instagram by young followers for not appropriately showing his support for the BLM protests taking place across the nation. With this assembly he has cemented his stance on the matter. Abloh intends to be the hand holding doors open for future generations of Black creators.

Secondo una statistica pubblicata dal portale Models.com, Mancini dalla stagione 2017-18 è considerato fra i modelli più influenti sui social.

Mancini comincia la carriera di modello a 21 anni, quando viene scoperto per caso per le strade di Milano. Il suo debutto avviene sulle passerelle di Giorgio Armani ed Emporio Armani durante la sua prima settimana della moda.

Il suo nome si lega da subito alla casa stilistica italiana, che lo sceglie come nuovo testimonial di diverse linee tra cui Emporio Armani Underwear, Armani Jeans e Armani Exchange, lanciandolo così ai vertici della moda internazionale. Nel 2014 diventa per due stagioni consecutive il volto della nuova linea di biancheria intima Emporio Armani underwear Sensual Collection, diretta da Andrea Dones.

Nel febbraio del 2016, in occasione della Milano Fashion Week femminile, Mancini scende in passerella per Emporio Armani e Giorgio Armani Privè.

Ha lavorato e collaborato in diverse location del mondo partecipando ad eventi e progetti speciali per clienti internazionali come Christian Dior, Bulgari, Damiani, Philipp Plein, Liu Jo, Massimo Dutti, Roberto Cavalli e Brunello Cucinelli. È apparso sulle copertine di riviste quali L’Officiel, Hachi Magazine e David Magazine oltre ad aver posato per servizi di moda pubblicati su Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire, Men’s Health e Vogue.

Mancini è stato protagonista di svariate campagne pubblicitarie per Carolina Herrera, Aigner, Borsalino, Carlo Pignatelli, Vince Camuto, Pierre Cardin, Yamamay e L’Oréal.

Nell’arco della stagione invernale autunno/ inverno 2016, è testimonial delle collezioni di biancheria intima Pierre Cardin e Yamamay insieme alla modella americana Emily DiDonato, oltre a essere riconfermato volto Armani Jeans. Nell’ottobre 2017 appare per la prima volta nella nuova collezione denim 2017-

2018 autunno/inverno di Armani Exchange.

Nel maggio 2018 diventa testimonial mondiale di Borsalino, in un periodo di transizione per la maison che lo sceglie per rilanciare il brand ai vertici.

Con le sfilate della stagione primavera estate del 2019, segna il decennale della sua presenza consecutiva sulle passerelle Armani.

INTERVISTA: Fabio, una carriera esorbitante ricca di importanti traguardi internazionali, tantissime le sfilate e le campagne pubblicitarie assieme gli stilisti più famosi al mondo. Ti emoziona ancora scendere nelle passerelle?

Assolutamente si, dopo più di 10 anni è sempre una grande emozione, soprattutto rappresentare il mio paese nel mondo, è mettermi ogni volta indiscussione per i ragazzi giovani che calcano per la prima volta emozionati le passerelle e mi chiedono sempre consigli, e cerco di tranquillizzarli e dare loro una mano.

Ti senti più sfrontato o politically correct?

Assolutamente sfrontato, dico sempre la mia, nella maniera più educata possibile, e anche quando c’è qualcuno che la pensa diversamente da me lo accetto, basta che il concetto espresso sia detto con educazione.

Di recente hai festeggiato il “tuo compleanno” con la famiglia Armani. Più di 10 anni a lavorare a fianco di Re Giorgio, diventandone vera e propria icona. si può dire che ormai sei di casa… Come è nato il vostro sodalizio?

Nutro una grandissima stima e un immenso rispetto verso il signor Armani, che ha sempre creduto in me negli anni e ho cercato di non deluderlo mai.

Mi ha insegnato ad amare questo lavoro senza mai montarmi la testa, e ho preso spesso a cuore dei piccoli consigli che mi dava prima di scendere in passerella. Penso che non sarò mai abbastanza grato per tutto quello che mi ha insegnato.

Hai ricevuto tantissimi riconoscimenti internazionali essendo stato per diversi anni di fila nei primi posti in classifica, dimostrando ed ottenendo serietà, professionalità e rispetto. Quando contano la dedizione e la determinazione per riuscire a ottenere un risultato simile?

Tanto, e sono fondamentali insieme alla pazienza, la più importate tra tutti. In questo lavoro si hanno altissimi e bassissimi, perché chi ha la fortuna di lavorare tanto, penso che abbia anche una grandissima pazienza, costanza e controllo perché dopo anni non è mai facile mettersi alla prova con tendenze nuove e modi di comunicare differenti.

Come riesci ad essere scolpito tutto l’anno?

Amo mangiare bene e lo sport, penso che siano la base della disciplina dello stare bene.

Tutti pensano che i modelli non mangiano e vi assicuro che non è cosi! È un discorso di costituzione, ma che se impari a gestirlo con alimentazione e sport, i risultati sono ottimali. Per tutti!

Per molti il mondo della moda rappresenta purtroppo ancora la confezione e non il contenuto.

backstage sono necessarie per realizzare una sfilata di 5 minuti perfetta? È un processo lungo che parte dalle 7 di mattina, per poi dare il via a trucco e parrucco, qualche intervista e foto per i media nei backstage e una piccola prova prima della sfiata finale. All’incirca la preparazione e di 4-5 ore, ma ormai ci si conosce più o meno tutti e il tempo passa sempre velocemente!

Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Brunello Cuccinelli, Pierre Cardin ecc, stili diversi ma accumunati da un altissimo prestigio. Quali di questi rappresenta di più Fabio Mancini?

Tutti e nessuno. Nutro un grande rispetto per ogni brand con cui ho collaborato e collaboro perché ognuno di loro mi ha insegnato qualcosa nella moda, ma ho uno stile tutto mio, proveniente della mie radici e dal mio sangue, dalla Puglia fino alla meravigliosa India, paese originario di mia madre.

Raccontaci Fabio Mancini fuori dai riflettori?

Hobby, passioni…

Un ragazzo semplice che non ha troppe pretese, amo cucinare per gli amici, la playstation, lo sport, aiutare gli altri appena posso con della beneficenza,

e soprattutto viaggiare. Viaggiando si scopre sé stessi oltre che culture e tradizioni nuove, e penso che sia l’espressione più grande che un essere umano possa imparare ed evolversi, senza giudizi.

Progetti futuri?

Ho appena firmato un grande contratto per una linea beauty, che sposa a pieno il mio pensiero, sotto tutte le forme, un bellissimo progetto che sta prendendo piano piano forma, e scatteremo proprio nelle prossime settimane con uno dei miei fotografi preferiti nella moda: Emilio Tini. La linea beauty si chiama Rhea Cosmethics e presto ne sentirete parlare!

Cosa ti senti di trasmettere ai giovani talenti emergenti che vogliono spiccare il volo nel campo della moda?

Determinazione, passione e non mollare mai se hanno un sogno, devono metterci l’anima ma senza mai scendere a compromessi.

Il tempo darà loro il sogno che inseguono, ne sono certo!

Si avvicina alla fotografia di matrimonio quasi per caso e ne nasce una passione per la ricerca di un punto di vista più reale e immediato rispetto a quello offerto dalla moda e dal costume, trovando in questo genere il perfetto connubio fra rigore stilistico e immediatezza espressiva.

Negli anni successivi la passione verso il valore documentale e artistico dei suoi scatti lo guida a fotografare grandi eventi privati per personaggi pubblici a livello internazionale.

Flavio è fondatore dell’esclusiva Best of Wedding Photography che annovera i migliori fotografi del

mondo e di ANFM, la prima associazione nazionale dei fotografi matrimonialisti in Italia. Per il suo contributo al mondo della fotografia ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti in Asia, Europa e USA e dal 2006 fotografa matrimoni e tiene conferenze e workshop in tutto il mondo.

Rappresenta FujiFilm Global come “X-Photographer”. È Album Epoca Master dal 2010 e dal 2018 è vicepresidente di ANFM.

Dal 2020, oltre alla conduzione di Flavio Bandiera Photography, si dedica insieme ai suoi due soci alla creazione di PHOTOBOUTIQUE, una realtà che vede la luce nel 2021 a Torino e che si pone come studio di approfondimento del ritratto oltre che della diffusione della fotografia in tutte le sue forme.

FLAVIO BANDIERA FOTOGRAFO: HAI AVUTO UNA CARRIERA CORONATA DA RICONOSCIMENTI INTERNAZIONALI E DA COLLABORAZIONI CON AZIENDE DI PRIMO PIANO NEL TUO SETTORE. COSA TI HA DATO PIÙ SODDISFAZIONI NEL TEMPO? In generale cosa mi ha maggiormente fatto felice è l’interesse che il mondo ha sollevato per il mio genere di specializzazione, il wedding, un tempo considerato a torto una fotografia poco prestigiosa, che invece negli ultimi anni, spero anche grazie al mio impegno, ha assunto una posizione importante nel panorama internazionale, diventando soprattutto nel XXI secolo un genere fotografico molto apprezzato al di là delle barriere culturali e delle differenze di genere. I riconoscimenti e le collaborazioni non hanno fatto altro che sottolineare questo aspetto che mi ha dato molta soddisfazione.

AMBASSADOR DEL MADE IN ITALY, COME È VALUTATA L’ARTE FOTOGRAFICA ITALIANA NEL MONDO, È ANCORA VERO CHE

“ITALIANS DO IT BETTER”?

L’Italia viene percepita in tutto il mondo come un paese ad alta connotazione artistica, non a torto considerando la concentrazione di arte che il mio paese ha storicamente saputo esprimere. E quando vivi circondato dall’arte, se hai una predisposizione naturale, ne sei contaminato. Il mio percorso del resto nasce da un ambiente già fortemente influenzato dalla fotografia (grazie a mio padre, fotografo e scrittore), che mi ha permesso di crescere in quello che ho sempre considerato un ecosistema naturale, quello dell’immagine e del bello intorno a me. Oggi l’espressione italiana nel mio ambito è di altissimo livello e concorre direttamente, spesso primeggiando, con i grandi paesi del mondo.

MAGAZINE “FOREVER BY ALBUM EPOCA” E VOGUE ITALIA, SUL PALCO: FLAVIO BANDIERA, BAMBI CANTRELL & FRANCISCO GUERRERO, I TRE “TENORI” DELLA FOTOGRAFIA, RISCOPRONO LE MEMORIE. COSA ACCOMUNA E DISTINGUE IL VOSTRO PUNTO DI VISTA FOTOGRAFICO? Bambi e Francisco sono due colleghi straordinari, espressioni dei vertici nei rispettivi paesi, USA e Spagna. Album Epoca, in qualità di azienda primaria nel settore della produzione degli album fotografici di altissima qualità, ha avuto la capacità di legare la propria vocazione con le espressioni più alte della

creatività internazionale, collezionando testimonial in tutto il mondo. Collaboro personalmente con il team Album Epoca e dal 2010 rappresento lo stile italiano per la fotografia di matrimonio, il che mi ha sempre reso orgoglioso. Io Bambi e Francisco ci siamo confrontati innumerevoli volte sul campo e nelle sale conferenze, e ogni volta è emersa una curiosa e differente visione del personale punto di vista, ma sempre accomunata da una percezione diretta a colpire lo spettatore con fotografie spettacolari e di tendenza.

IL MATRIMONIO PERFETTO. QUALI SONO GLI INGREDIENTI ESSENZIALI CHE DEVE AVERE UN PORTRAIT INDIMENTICABILE? A mio avviso la fotografia durante una giornata così unica nella vita deve avere due scopi: raccontare tutto ciò che è stato organizzato e scelto dai protagonisti (spesso grazie al lavoro di un team estremamente articolato come wedding planner, designer, catering, ecc.) e allo stesso tempo mostrare l’evento da un punto di vista unico, quello del fotografo che riprende i vari stage. Io sono sempre curioso di raccogliere i feedback dei miei clienti, quando vedendo per la prima volta se stessi nelle immagini mi dicono: riguardare le tue foto è come tornare lì, a quel giorno, ma con un livello di dettaglio e di bellezza che non avevo notato mentre vivevo il matrimonio.

Questa è la magia della fotografia: si apre a innumerevoli interpretazioni e il mio privilegio è poterla creare a beneficio di chi ne potrà godere.

FLAVIO BANDIERA, MAIN FEATURES: DESCRIVITI IN 5 PAROLE… Uso degli aggettivi in cui mi ritrovo continuamente: meticoloso e poco metodico, sognatore, curioso, maniacale nel giudizio del mio lavoro, innamorato della famiglia che mi circonda e supporta.

“BEST OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY” PRATICAMENTE UN DREAM TEAM DI FOTOGRAFI MONDIALI, ALLA REGIA FLAVIO BANDIERA. COME E NATA L’IDEA DI CREARE QUESTA PARTNERSHIP? L’idea era di creare una directory di riferimento che potesse rappresentare una selezione mondiale a disposizione di clienti che desiderano il meglio in fatto di fotografia artistica legata al wedding. Subito dopo è esploso un mondo di imitazioni, ma rimane il fatto che BOWP è stata la prima organizzazione a porsi come una casa che ha aperto le proprie porte a fotografi che desideravano avere una vetrina che andasse oltre i confini dei loro paesi di appartenenza.

CONFERENZE E WORKSHOP IN TUTTO IL MONDO, SEI CONSIDERATO UN MAESTRO DELLA FOTOGRAFIA MONDIALE, QUANTO CAMBIA IL PUNTO DI VISTA DI FLAVIO BANDIERA QUANDO “SALE IN CATTEDRA”? È VERO CHE INSEGNANDO SI IMPARA SEMPRE QUALCOSA? Ho avuto il privilegio di raccontarmi in platee di 3 continenti, ricordo ad esempio in particolare la curiosità dei fotografi australiani nel sentirmi parlare in Nuova Zelanda di matrimonio in Italia ed Europa, ma negli anni ho capito che è dal confronto e dalle differenze che nascono i migliori spunti per migliorarsi. È indubbio che nelle mille domande che mi sono state rivolte ho dovuto riflettere su ciò che ero e su quale era il mio ruolo, consentendomi di progredire, sia sul piano professionale che umano (che nella fotografia sono in perfetta relazione).

COME CI SI SENTE A INDOSSARE LA PRESTIGIOSA DIVISA FUJIFILM? QUANTO HA INFLUITO QUESTA ESPERIENZA NEL TUO PERCORSO DI MATURAZIONE PROFESSIONALE? Quando hai il supporto di una grande azienda sei un po’ più tranquillo, anche nel lavoro di tutti i giorni. Mi sono ritrovato in posti lontani da casa e con la necessità di avere dell’attrezzatura aggiuntiva per realizzare al meglio il mio lavoro, ma che per fattori di logistica o per viaggi precedenti non avevo con me; in questi casi la collaborazione con una realtà importante è un fattore chiave per il successo di ogni progetto, permettendomi di rimanere concentrato a dare il meglio senza barriere tecniche.

HAI LAVORATO CON DIVERSE STAR NAZIONALI ED INTERNAZIONALI, CHI TI HA PIÙ CONQUISTATO? I nomi sono tanti, tantissimi! A volte però con alcuni di loro c’è una distanza incolmabile, legata proprio alla costante carenza di tempo nel fermarsi per potersi conoscere meglio, ma le sensazioni che ti lasciano alcuni clienti per me sono straordinarie. Trattandosi di eventi strettamente personali le limitazioni nella diffusione delle informazioni sono assolute, spesso non posso mostrare nulla di ciò che ho scattato, ma nel contempo nel mio studio privato ho innumerevoli book con il meglio della mia produzione.

Ho avuto la fortuna di lavorare in grandissimi ricevimenti di star internazionali della musica e dello spettacolo, della politica e dello sport, o con “semplici” coppie di clienti che hanno organizzato il loro matrimonio a 2, senza ospiti, nel mezzo di Central Park a NYC.

Uno degli ultimi lavori che ho scattato è stato un pre-wedding a Venezia per una coppia di clienti orientali: lui è il proprietario della più grande azienda al mondo nel campo delle batterie ricaricabili (quindi per tutto ciò che abitualmente usiamo quotidianamente nella nostre case) e dopo ogni sequenza di shooting si infilava nei negozi lungo il percorso per fare shopping. Avremmo dovuto lavorare un giorno, e invece ne abbiamo impiegati 3 per realizzare quanto previsto dal programma. Ma ormai non mi stupisco più di nulla, e di nessuno.

FLAVIO BEHIND THE SCENES. CHI È FLAVIO BANDIERA FUORI DAI RIFLETTORI? Sono un papà e un compagno impegnato, ma che cerca di dedicare molto tempo alla propria famiglia.

In particolare dall’inizio del 2020 ho rivoluzionato la mia organizzazione, cambiando casa e dotandomi di uno studio privato, garantendomi così spazio in mezzo al verde e in ambienti più piacevoli appena lontano dalla città, così che le mie ore davanti ai monitor siano più leggere, e al contempo dandomi la possibilità di rimanere a contatto con nostra figlia, la piccola Aurora Luce di 3 anni e con la mia compagna Michela. Non appena posso però accendo il proiettore per gustarmi film in quantità, perché le ispirazioni del mio mondo arrivano anche dalla settima arte. E poi ascolto molta musica lungo l’arco delle giornate, una compagnia che trovo inestimabile.

COVID. COME SONO CAMBIATE LE PROSPETTIVE PER IL FUTURO NEL TUO SETTORE? COME STAI AFFRONTANDO QUESTA SITUAZIONE? Purtroppo la pandemia ha impattato direttamente sul mio lavoro e su tutto l’indotto del wedding e dei grandi eventi, causando cancellazioni e spostamenti di appuntamenti già pianificati. Inutile negarlo, chi come me è impegnato in questa filiera ha subito danni incalcolabili e l’orizzonte di ripresa sembra costantemente allontanarsi, ma resta il fatto che l’amore è Covid-free, e presto o tardi ricominceremo a lavorare a testa bassa. Si ritornerà, per quanto in maniera differente, a festeggiare e a divertirsi riabbracciandosi, e al di là del mio ruolo, non vedo l’ora che questa emergenza termini per poterci riappropriare delle nostre esistenze.

RECENTEMENTE HAI APERTO UNO SHOWROOM DI FOTOGRAFIA IN PIENO CENTRO A TORINO, PARLACI DI QUESTO NUOVO CONCEPT? È stata proprio la pandemia a permettermi di ritrovare del tempo in cui realizzare un progetto che avevo in mente da tempo: un nuovo spazio attrezzato per potermi dedicare al ritratto delle persone in uno studio fotografico. Caratteristica del mio lavoro è sempre stata quella di lavorare in location distanti dalla mia città, mentre da oggi vorrei che fossero i

clienti a raggiungermi, per poter realizzare fotografie che esulano dal wedding, ma che storicamente rappresentano una testimonianza di se stessi legate a un fascino senza tempo: il ritratto. In quest’epoca in cui realizzare fotografie è così semplice (tutti abbiamo uno smartphone in tasca) la magia che offre uno studio fotografico e una stampa di qualità, magari in bianco e nero su carte pregiate, non ha paragoni. Ecco perché credo in questo nuovo progetto, che rappresenta un’evoluzione, ma che si ricollega a concetti del passato rivisitati e aggiornati. Ecco perché oltre alla mia sede e al mio ufficio a Londra ho aggiunto questo nuovo studio, perché potrebbe essere una delle direzioni più importanti del mio lavoro nel futuro.

FOTOGRAFIA BIANCONERO O A COLORI ?

Meglio un gelato alla fragola o al cioccolato? Non c’è risposta univoca, ma piuttosto un’espressione che è legata al gusto, ma soprattutto alla cultura di chi realizza la fotografia. E di colui che la guarda.

Personalmente ritengo che il colore aggiunga verità, il bianco e nero invece lasci spazio all’immaginazione. In alcuni periodi sono maggiormente ispirato dal primo, sempre più spesso dal secondo.

Sto scattando eventi a colori, ma mi riscopro a esplorare le possibilità del ritratto in studio in bianco e nero.

COME POSSONO I NOSTRI LETTORI CHE DESIDERANO CONVOLARE A NOZZE CONTATTARTI PER CORONARE IL LORO SOGNO CON LA PRESTIGIOSA FIRMA DI FLAVIO BANDIERA?

Fuori da questo periodo invece sono necessarie caratteristiche imprescindibili: passione smisurata per la fotografia, studio (inteso come tanti libri), molta applicazione e tanta ricerca, perché la propria visione emerga chiara rispetto a quanto già offerto dal mercato.

It is very nice that they recognize the work and the effort that sometimes is quite a lot and many people do not know it, when I was on Estrella Tv I received the Latin international business award and it was the first recognition in the USA and then more recognitions came from other channels such as univision and the social media channels. I currently have some film, TV and modeling projects that were stopped by the pandemic last year and we hope that everything improves to be able to carry them out.

What are the most popular beauty treatments among women in this period of the year?

At any period of the year, and specially before spring, facial rejuvenation procedures in combination with facial beautification are the most requested treatments. These include mainly, Botox® injections to soften expression lines, Hyaluronic-acid fillers for facial volume-loss restoration and reshaping, and Skinboosters® to rejuvenate and hydrate deeply the skin. Various studies show the benefit of preventive aesthetic treatments on young skin and how they delay the onset of premature signs of skin aging. ses and misuses. Anyway, I do not believe addiction will occur if we perform appropriate procedures with tact and moderation on our younger patients.

What trends await us in view of this year in the aesthetic field ?

Non-invasive and minimally-invasive procedures are and will become more and more preponderant and popular, such as threads lifting and buttocks augmentation, because they are performed under local anesthesia, without surgery nor downtime. Facial Beautification will also be widely required, meaning facial beauty enhancement by subtle volume restoration in specific areas such as jawlines, cheekbones, lips and chin, in order to create a «photogenic» look.

The main goal is to enhance the visual perception of beauty, and those are the top trending topics in aesthetic field.

Is the strong growth of cosmetic surgery due to the fact that it is now a luxury within everyone’s reach, economically accessible?

The economic aspect is of course one of the several reasons to explain the rise of cosmetic procedures, but it’s not the major factor. Indeed, since 2020 there has been a pandemic boom in aesthetic medicine and surgery, probably due to more recovery time for patients, but the «ZOOM effect» is a major contributing factor in changing behaviors, with a huge increase in the time we spend staring our faces on a screen over the past years. The selfie generation factor and rise of

Millennials explain the increase of aesthetic procedures. But also because it’s no longer a taboo subject to have lips or boobs done, mentalities have evolved like in any other field which was hidden or secret 20 years ago. Another main explanation is the free communication of medical information, specially thanks to social media as Instagram and FaceBook, with greater transparency, which was not really allowed 25 years ago.

How much do aesthetic improvements in patients affect the psychological aspect?

People just desire to feel confident. We all know the psychological impact that an aesthetic disgrace can have on a young woman or a young man. Likewise, correcting an unsightly defect and beautification has a very positive effect on one’s self-esteem, moral and social well-being.

We cannot underestimate the psychological benefits of aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery on the quality of life of our patients, we see it every day, the testimonies of our patients are the best proof of its assets. We live in a society where image and seduction hold a very important place in work, social life and in one word, success. Aesthetic medicine can help people who feel inhibited and inferior, with complexes about their body or faces, and contribute to improve their daily life.

Speaking of male treatments, a strong evolution in the upper hand, what do you think about it?

Indeed, there is a significant rise of male patients in our offices. This is due to the fact that nowadays men are just as likely as women to be concerned about their appearance; they desire to look youthful and to feel confident. It’s no longer taboo for men to have some lunch-time Botox® to soften their severe and tired look, or Skinboosters® injections to get a fresh skin.

The desire for seduction and to please others is timeless and has no gender.

Rejuvenation procedures such as Skinboosters®, Mesolift, PRP/ i-PRF are also very popular on face and hair because men desire to feel confident about their self-image, to look refreshed and youthful. Il nuovo OTAM 65 HT è stato concepito seguendo le specifiche richieste di un Armatore appassionato e coraggioso nel creare non un prodotto di serie ma qualcosa di mai fatto prima, un vero One Off senza limiti di personalizzazione in puro stile OTAM. Su richiesta del committente, lo studio Francesco Guida Design ha ideato lo stile e i dettagli di layout interni e del pozzetto esterno dando ancora più carattere e traducendo le specifiche richieste di un molto attento ai dettagli. Il nuovo 65 HT è pura espressione della customizzazione estrema propria del cantiere italiano, che ben si riassume nell’espressione “Made in Italy one off ”, capace di racchiudere in sé i concetti di esperienza, ricerca, sviluppo, flessibilità, design iconico e altissime prestazioni con un’efficienza fuori dal comune.

Nello sviluppo dell’OTAM 65 HT, il cantiere ha superato i propri limiti stabilendo la velocità maggiore mai raggiunta prima con 60 nodi di massima e 50 nodi di crociera grazie alla carena con 21° di

DESIGN ESTERNO PER VIVERE IL MARE L’hardtop dell’OTAM 65 HT è stato customizzato con nuovi dettagli seguendo le richieste dell’Armatore: tra le soluzioni spicca l’eliminazione delle porte verso il pozzetto, così da creare un’unica grande area open space per godere appieno la vita all’aria aperta. Tutto questo senza perdere il pregio di avere un ambiente dotato di tutti i comfort, basti pensare che tutta l’area esterna è dotata di aria condizionata.

“Nel pozzetto, invece del classico teak,” spiega Francesco Guida, “abbiamo scelto di utilizzare listoni in Esthec grigio posizionati trasversalmente per accentuare la larghezza piuttosto che la lunghezza.

Una vera sfida è stata realizzare un mobile laterale che fosse grande abbastanza per accogliere non solo un lavandino e un frigorifero, ma anche altri elettrodomestici come un ice-maker e una cantinetta, oltre a molti spazi di stivaggio per il vasellame.

Il volume di questo mobile è poi interrotto con strisce in acciaio inox spazzolato sulla sezione frontale”.

Tutto l’armamento di coperta è arricchito da inserti in carbonio Non solo l’hardtop, ma tutto l’armamento di coperta, è arricchito da inserti in carbonio: dall’ancora fino alla plancetta bagno il cantiere ha scelto, come nella sua tradizione, di utilizzare materiali tecnologicamente avanzati, che consentono non solo di creare un contrasto cromatico con il bianco metallizzato dello scafo, ma anche di assicurare un risparmio in termini di peso, a tutto vantaggio delle performance.

INTERNI ISPIRATI AL MONDO DEI PRIVATE JETS Gli interni ed i dettagli del nuovo OTAM 65 HT, disegnati da Francesco Guida Design, sono totalmente custom e rappresentano un nuovo riferimento per l’interior design dello yachting sportivo, grazie al suo stile d’avanguardia che si esprime con

geometrie eleganti conferendo all’imbarcazione un carattere senza tempo.

“L’intero concept si è basato su due premesse fondamentali”, continua Francesco Guida. “La prima era che il décor dovesse esaltare il fatto che si tratta del più veloce OTAM mai costruito, e probabilmente il più veloce al Mondo nel suo segmento, e quindi ci siamo ispirati ai più veloci jet privati esistenti. La seconda premessa era che l’Armatore desiderava uno schema monocromatico in bianco e nero, con richiami evidenti agli elementi in fibra di carbonio utilizzati nella costruzione in composito high-tech dello yacht”.

“Abbiamo ottenuto questi effetti in diversi modi”, continua Guida. “La vernice bianca perlacea e il rovere tinto nero si combinano con i rivestimenti carbon look per soffitti e pensili, che sono progettati in modo da richiamare le cappelliere dei jet. Anche i cielini sono leggermente sagomati per rispecchiare il profilo aerodinamico dell’hardtop. È così che in termini di materiali, forme e colori, gli spazi interni

richiamano quelli esterni”.

Anche per quanto riguarda l’illuminazione è stato necessario uno studio molto attento. “Una delle sfide che abbiamo dovuto superare è stata il fatto che non ci sono finestrature a scafo, quindi abbiamo dovuto realizzare tre cabine sottocoperta che fossero ariose e accoglienti senza ricorrere alla luce naturale.

Tutta l’illuminazione è indiretta e sfrutta le superfici bianche per riflettere la luce nelle cabine ed enfatizzare le forme scolpite. Per ‘interrompere’ il corridoio a S che collega le cabine, abbiamo inserito una ‘lobby’ ovale nel mezzo, così da creare un punto centrale di riferimento”.

Colori, forme e materiali sono stati selezionati attentamente per coesistere in armonia con il look esterno dell’imbarcazione per ottenere un unicum armonioso. “I letti rivestiti in pelle e i mobili laterali ricordano le poltroncine-nido che si possono trovare in Prima Classe su un aereo, mentre i dettagli e le maniglie delle porte in acciaio inox spazzolato si abbinano al grigio chiaro della morbida moquette in seta e lana. Un elemento che colpisce nella cucina è il marmo Striato Olimpico. Si tratta dell’unico materiale tradizionale usato a bordo, ma le sue ardite striature orizzontali nere e grigie gli conferiscono un look molto moderno, che si armonizza perfettamente con il resto del décor. Naturalmente, per mantenere i pesi ridotti, tutto il marmo è montato su un substrato di alluminio a nido d’ape”.

“I bagni sono decisamente speciali, perché abbiamo eliminato I tradizionali lavandini sostituendoli con ‘totem’ autoportanti in acciaio inox spazzolato.

Anche il WC è nascosto da una copertura in acciaio inox, un po’ come accade sui jet”.

“Abbiamo dedicato allo sviluppo del design di questo 20 metri il doppio del tempo solitamente necessario”, conclude Francesco Guida. “E credo che si veda: le eleganti e innovative geometrie donano all’OTAM 65 HT un carattere senza tempo e, contemporaneamente, rappresentano un nuovo punto di riferimento per l’interior design nel mercato degli yacht sportivi”.

The use of the marbles provides a cleanness to the eye and exudes an elegant and modern appeal, suiting for a family or friends get together, especially with the marble countertop, the perfect place to start your dinner party. The softness of the counter stool from the Moka family (same has the dining chairs) by Caffe Latte, stand out completly from the architechture of the hardness of the marbles, while the Etta Pendant from Delightfull delights the ambiance with a bronze appeal. A true feast for the eyes.

MASTER BEDROOM Yet another comfortng zone, the master bedroom was designed to render the ultmate relaxing a calm experience. Few elements were set to make the room as subtle as possible not to be too loud, this elegant bedroom transpires a peace and quietness perfect for a relaxing night. Not compromising on the aesthetc, it is still polished and neutral, making it all about the wide spacings and the well-lit walls and ceilings. Sophia Bed from Essential home is the perfect piece for a peacefull sleep but the stand out item is undoubtedly the Heritage Sibeboard from Boca do Lobo in sepia tones. This modern and simplistc design is complemented by other functonalites and additons to the overall area, that we will explore ahead.

WALK-IN CLOSET Although with a simplistc design, the master bedroom is flled with elements that fulfll a design worthy of this penthouse. Besides an en-suite bathroom, the master bedroom is complemented with a walk- in closet that immediately transports us to a private experience worthy of some of the most luxurious brands in the fashion industry. Simple in design, complex in the details.

TWINS BEDROOM A house is not a home without the lively laughter and play of children. In this case, double the fun.

The twins’ room is both fun and aesthetcally pleasing. Doubling on the items and doubling on the styling with a gender-neutral palete, complete with an officece and private bathroom. A whimsical place that allows comfort, safety, and functonality without compromising on the playfulness of the room. Circu’s magical furniture had a big pplay on this room, with both the Cloud bed and sofa being the dreamy place to skyrocket imagination and travel along the children’s dreams.

Designed to be a place of work, its main goal was ergonomy and functonality. SITTING ROOM One of the many amenities for the master bedroom is the complementing sitting room. A smaller private living room, the perfect retreat or calm reading corner. Borrowing its design straight from the main living room is the ideal place for an intimate and personal escape.

The AMR21, to be raced this season by four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel and rising star Lance Stroll, carries a striking Aston Martin Racing Green livery in recognition of Aston Martin’s traditional racing colours and glorious sporting legacy. It is also bedecked by a host of global partners, led by American IT giant Cognizant, while the chassis features a magenta stripe down the side in reference to the team’s longstanding partner BWT. La sua passione per i viaggi l’ha portato in giro per tutti e 5 i continenti; basandosi su queste esperienze ha inventato un format radiofonico che parla di viaggi e che ha via via perfezionato dal 1996 ad oggi.

Giornalista pubblicista dal 1980, è stato direttore responsabile di duetestate radiofoniche e di due magazine: Vita di Provincia e Canavese Top. Attual-

Dj in discoteca dal 1978, ha concluso la sua lunga carriera alla consolle del Jimmy’z di Monte Carlo, dopo aver lavorato sulle navi da crociera come animatore e dj assieme a Piero Chiambretti, Mario Zucca ed altri.

Si è occupato anche di numerose produzioni discografiche: nel 1982 ha pubblicato Space Operator dei 4M International per Goody Music. Nel 1984 con Disc8 ha pubblicato Fly To America della Red Gang, con la quale si è esibito nell’estate dello stesso anno a Drive In (Italia 1) e Discoring (Raiuno). Nel 1995, dopo un soggiorno a Londra durante il quale ha conosciuto Eddie Piller (Acid Jazz Records) e Gilles Peterson (Talkin’ Loud Records), ha realizzato, con lo pseudonimo Ciconio, un album doppio intitolato TripTik con la collaborazione di Paolo Ricca, pubblicato da Flying Records.

Durante la BIT 2005 ha ricevuto il Premio Colombo della Federalberghi, riservato ai giornalisti che si sono distinti nella promozione del turismo di prossimità.

Ha ricevuto due volte il premio dell’ADUTEI Associazione Delegati Uffici del Turismo Estero in Italia per la categoria radio viaggi, il 15 giugno 2009 ed il 19 giugno 2018 Ha collaborato per 12 anni con la TV del Centre de Presse de Monaco, realizzando una rubrica settimanale in lingua italiana, MC Info, e una serie di documentari di viaggio intitolata “Ailleurs”.

Il 24 novembre 2017 ha ricevuto il titolo di Cavaliere dell’Ordine deiGrimaldi da S.A.S. il Principe Alberto II di Monaco.

MAURIZIO, DAL JIMMY’S DI MONTECARLO AL DRIVE IN PASSANDO PER IL CANAVESE, RACCONTACI QUALE RICORDI HANNO SEGNATO LA TUA CARRIERA? Il primo programma in radio non si scorda mai ed è stato a Radio Ivrea Canavese, la mia città. Era dicembre, aveva appena nevicato, tutto era ovattato, ricoperto di neve fresca. La sede della radio era su una collina, in un luogo un po’ isolato.

E ricordo che scesi le scalinate verso la città, in mezzo alla neve gridando di gioia: mi avevano assegnato uno spazio di mezz’ora al sabato per fare la mia prima trasmissione.

Un altro ricordo è al Jimmy’z, la mitica discoteca di Montecarlo, quando vidi arrivare in console, accompagnato da una corista, il grande Stevie Wonder che voleva ascoltare un disco. Si era appena esibito nella Salle des Etoiles.

Al Drive In arrivai insieme al gruppo Red Gang per eseguire il brano Fly to America. Avevo scritto le parole ed ero l’interprete della parte rap, ci avevo messo tutto il mio sogno americano in quella canzone.

IL TUO ATTUALE PROGRAMMA ?

In viaggio con DiMaggio è il programma che mi sono inventato nel 1996. Il format da allora è cambiato, si è evoluto, a volte si è accorciato e poi si è espanso. Ma rimane come base l’argomento Viaggi & Destinazioni. Il mondo raccontato, gli spunti su dove andare, i ricordi di viaggio, le persone incontrate, gli aneddoti… sempre partendo dall’attualità, per esempio: “oggi è successo che a Shanghai…” et voilà lo spunto per raccontare brevemente l’attualità e poi far vivere i miei ricordi di quella città, delle sue tangenziali con i cartelli stradali luminosi… e i grattacieli colorati. E così qualsiasi notizia dal mondo può essere uno spunto per me per raccontare.

MONEGASCO O EPOREDIESE, COME PREFERISCI DEFINIRTI? Cittadino del mondo! Sono Di Maggio sempre in viaggio e Montecarlo e Ivrea sono solo tappe dove riposarsi, prima di ripartire.

NOSTALGIA DELL’ITALIA? Non me la faccio venire, cerco in questo periodo di fare del turismo di prossimità, di andare a vedere o rivedere cose vicine, a riprovare emozioni. E devo dire che l’Italia è veramente il paese più bello del mondo per la varietà dei suoi tesori d’arte, dei suoi borghi, degli angoli… dappertutto trovi bellezza dovuta all’armonie delle forme. In Italia c’è un gusto innato per il bello, ed è il nostro patrimonio nazionale più grande: il buon gusto.

MEGLIO LAVORARE CON CHIAMBRETTI O SULLE NAVI? Con Piero abbiamo lavorato insieme sulle navi da crociera, lui come intrattenitore-animatore e io come DJ nella discoteca di bordo. Ci sono state anche altre occasioni. Lui è incredibile, un improvvisatore nato, molto veloce nell’afferrare il lato comico di una situazione o di una persona e prendersene gioco, facendo ridere tutto il pubblico.

RADIO MONTECARLO: COSA SIGNIFICA PER TE ESSERE UNA FIGURA DI RIFERIMENTO PER UNA PLATEA COSÌ IMPORTANTE? Bhe, non so se sono veramente una figura di riferimento, sicuramente sono il più longevo tra i conduttori attuali con 33 anni di microfono. Ma lontano dal record di 42 anni di carriera a RMC di Luisella Berrino. Essere da tanto tempo in onda fa sì che gli ascoltatori ti avvertano come una figura familiare, sanno tutto di te, dei tuoi gusti, degli interessi, perché ne parlo alla radio e la gente memorizza. E mi capita di incontrare persone che sono miei amici da una vita… senza averli mai incontrati prima!

SITUAZIONE COVID, QUANTO È DIFFICILE CERCARE DI PORTARE ALLEGRIA IN UN MOMENTO COME QUESTO? Difficile ma non impossibile. La gente spegne la TV proprio per avere musica e spensieratezza, le News sono troppo angoscianti e schiacciano le persone.

La radio aiuta il relax, le chiacchere sollevano l’animo, i viaggi fanno sognare.

PROGETTI FUTURI? Tanti, a cominciare da un libro di viaggio, chissà come mai? E poi ritornare a girare e raccontare il mondo con una trasmissione che sia itinerante e faccia sognare. Perché torneremo a viaggiare, non perdete la speranza.

BACK IN TIME: POTENDO SCEGLIERE, IN CHI TI REINCARNERESTI? In qualche eroe romantico come Zorro. Ma se devo indicare una persona realmente vissuta direi Giorgio Perlasca, un fascista della prima ora che di fronte all’abominio delle leggi raziali si rifiutò di condannare alla deportazioni anche i bambini. E fingendosi un diplomatico spagnolo riuscì a salvare moltissime giovani vite, rischiando la propria. Ecco, Perlasca fu un eroe, un eroe vero.

IL PROFESSOR ANTONIO GIORDANO SI È LAUREATO CON IL MASSIMO DEI VOTI IN MEDICINA A NAPOLI NEL 1986. HA CONSEGUITO LA SPECIALIZZAZIONE IN ANATOMIA PATOLOGICA ALL’UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI TRIESTE E SUBITO DOPO SI È TRASFERITO CON UN DOTTORATO DI RICERCA NEGLI STATI UNITI, DOVE È STATO ALLIEVO DEL PREMIO NOBEL WATSON AL COLD SPRING HARBOR LABORATORY. In quegli anni fu il primo a scoprire il collegamento diretto tra la regolazione del ciclo cellulare e lo sviluppo del cancro. Più specificamente dimostrò che, affinché le cellule normali si trasformino in neoplastiche, gli oncogeni devono interagire direttamente con le cicline, determinando una deregolazione del ciclo e, pertanto, l’insorgenza del fenotipo neoplastico.

Dal 1992, si trasferì a Philadelphia dove ebbe l’incarico, dapprima alla Temple University come Assistent professor, successivamente alla Thomas

Jefferson University, come Professore ordinario di Patologia presso il Dipartimento di Patologia, Anatomia e Biologia Cellulare, infine nuovamente alla Temple University, dove è attualmente Direttore dello Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine e Co-Direttore del Center for Biotechnology nel College of Science and Technology.

LEGAMI CON L’ITALIA Dal 1° gennaio 2004 è Professore ordinario per chiara fama nel settore scientifico-disciplinare di Anatomia Patologica del Dipartimento di Patologia Umana ed Oncologia dell’Università degli Studi di Siena. Dal giugno 2006 promuove la Fondazione Onlus Human Health Foundantion Onlus di Spoleto ed è Presidente del comitato scientifico del CROM (Centro Ricerche Oncologiche di Mercogliano-AV). Di seguito elencate le ulteriori principali collaborazioni con Atenei Italiani e Fondazioni: Università La Sapienza e Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Roma, Università Federico II di

Napoli, Università di Palermo, Università di Sassari, Dipartimento di Biologia di base e applicata dell’Università dell’Aquila, Università degli studi di Messina, Centro Riferimento Oncologico di Aviano, Fondazione Isal di Rimini.

PRINCIPALI SCOPERTE A lui si deve, in primo luogo, una delle più importanti scoperte degli ultimi anni nel campo della ricerca contro il cancro: l’individuazione e la clonazione, nel 1993, di un nuovo gene oncosoppressore, l’RB2/p130, che ha funzione di primaria importanza nel ciclo cellulare controllando la corretta replicazione del Dna e prevedendo, essenzialmente, l’insorgenza del cancro. Le alterazioni, a livello di questi geni oncosoppressori, cioé una loro non-espressione o un cattivo funzionamento, lasciano via libera alle cellule neoplastiche di moltiplicarsi in modo incontrollato.

Nel 2000 è stato portato a termine uno studio di grande impatto scientifico internazionale sul carcinoma polmonare. La novità assoluta consiste nel primo esempio di impostazione di un modello di terapia genica che viene sperimentato in vivo sull’animale (topo) in cui era stato indotto un tumore polmonare. Utilizzando il gene RB2/p130 funzionalmente attivo e, come vettore, un retrovirus, si è dimostrato come la crescita tumorale si riduca in maniera drastica dopo una singola iniezione di RB2/p130. Nel 2001, un altro studio in esame un tema di grande rilevanza ed attualità scientifica.

I risultati di questo studio hanno aperto le porte ad una chiave di interpretazione molto suggestiva della patogenesi tumorale. Gli esperimenti effettuati sempre sull’animale (topo) dimostrano, infatti, come l’RB2/p130 possa funzionare anche come inibitore dell’angiogenesi (la neoformazione di vasi che nutrendo il tumore, è alla base della crescita neoplastica).

Oltre a RB2/p130 ha scoperto due importanti “guardiani” del genoma umano CDK9 e CDK10. I risultati ottenuti dal prof. Giordano con questi studi hanno avuto una vasta eco sulla stampa internazionale, in quanto aprono importanti prospettive nel campo della cura dei tumori, lasciano intravedere possibilità applicative del tutto nuove rispetto ai tradizionali trattamenti chirurgici e che mio-terapici.

Nel 2004 scopre l’NSPs (Novel Structure Proteins), una nuova struttura di proteine con un potenziale ruolo nelle dinamiche del nucleo durante la divisione cellulare. Una proteina in particolare (Isoform NSP5a3a) è altamente espressa nelle linee cellulari di alcuni tumori e potrebbe risultare un marker tumorale molto utile.

PUBBLICAZIONI Il Prof. Giordano è autore di oltre 400 pubblicazioni su peer-reviewed journals, che includono volumi scientifici e articoli sulle più qualificate riviste scientifiche internazionali ed è detentore di 15 brevetti internazionali per la scoperta di nuovi geni e di nuovi metodi per la diagnosi e la terapia dei tumori.

Dal 1992 le sue ricerche vengono finanziate dalle più prestigiose agenzie americane: National Institute of Health, Dipartimento della Difesa Americano e Commonwealth dello Stato della Pennsylvania.

Lo Sbarro Institute (riferimento Aprile 2013) è al secondo posto come numero di pubblicazioni (220) secondo il Cell Cycle registry.

Il tumore è una patologia multifattoriale, caratterizzata da una incontrollata crescita delle cellule dell’organismo, a seguito di danni al patrimonio genetico, che alterano alcuni meccanismi fisiologi-

ci finemente regolati. Può colpire persone di ogni età anche se gli anziani potrebbero essere colpiti con maggiore frequenza a causa dei danni genetici che tendono ad accumularsi con il trascorrere del tempo. Pur essendo il cancro una malattia genetica, oggi sappiamo che anche molti fattori ambientali influiscono sul suo sviluppo, pertanto, sarebbe più opportuno definirlo come una malattia genetica di origine ambientale.

Quindi, oltre alla predisposizione genetica, stili di vita, abitudini alimentari, luogo di residenza o tipo di attività professionale, contribuiscono all’aumento del rischio di sviluppare la malattia.

EPIGENETICA: L’AMBIENTE ESTERNO PUÒ IMPATTARE SUL NOSTRO FENOTIPO? SE SI, COME POSSIAMO SFRUTTARLO PER RISINCRONIZZARE LA NOSTRA OMEOSTASI? L’epigenetica è una branca della genetica che si occupa dei cambiamenti fenotipici ereditabili da una cellula, in cui non si osserva una variazione del genotipo. Più semplicemente, non si verificano variazioni a livello della sequenza genetica ma comunque una determinata alterazione molecolare riesce in qualche modo ad essere ereditata ed indurre un cattivo funzionamento di determinati

geni. Oggi sappiamo che le informazioni provenienti dall’ambiente “innescano” pathways cellulari complesse e specifiche che modificano l’assetto epigenetico del genoma in modo via, via più stabile e trasmissibile da una generazione cellulare all’altra; che tali modifiche non sono in alcun modo “casuali”, ma riguardano aree specifiche del genoma. Essendo l’epigenetica strettamente correlata alla relazione tra l’ambiente e l’individuo, conoscendo e prevenendo le cause ambientale possiamo sicuramente rimodulare alcuni meccanismi alterati.

IL COMITATO SCIENTIFICO DI CUI LEI È STATO PRESIDENTE, COORDINA L’ATTIVITÀ DELL’ISTITUTO SUPERIORE DELLA SANITÀ COADIUVANDO ATTIVITÀ DI RICERCA E POLITICHE SANITARIE. QUAL È LA CONNESSIONE TRA INQUINAMENTO E SVILUPPO DI PATOLOGIE TUMORALI, IN PARTICOLARE MODO NELLA REGIONE CAMPANIA? L’idea è di implementare un vasto programma di Sanità pubblica ecologica, focalizzato sul monitoraggio dell’esposizione ad inquinanti ambientali con conseguenze dannose per la salute. Il progetto prevede non solo l’individuazione dei livelli di

inquinanti, dal suolo all’essere umano, ma anche l’individuazione di biomarcatori e di nuove formule efficaci di prevenzione primaria e secondaria.

Si auspica che i nostri studi porteranno alla individuazione e, successiva, necessaria bonifica dei siti inquinati; ciò è già una prima ed importante forma di prevenzione primaria per i cittadini. Il progetto prevede anche una riorganizzazione delle strutture sanitarie in modo che siano in grado di fornire un tipo di assistenza migliore per tutta la popolazione. È importante sottolineare, in questo momento, che la tutela dell’ambiente è estremamente utile anche al fine di contrastare lo sviluppo di epidemie/pandemie.

Per quanto riguarda la regione Campania, l’unione della mia passione per la ricerca all’affetto per la mia regione di origine, ha fatto si che io mi interessassi alla questione purtroppo nota come “Terra dei Fuochi” (gestione illecita di rifiuti che affligge le province di Napoli e Caserta da decenni). Dopo una serie di denunce (sempre supportate da evidenze scientifiche), con il mio gruppo di ricerca, sono riuscito a condurre, con pochissimi mezzi economici, uno studio preliminare, osservazionale volto a dosare i livelli di alcuni metalli riscontrati nel sangue di pazienti oncologici residenti nelle suddette aree. Le nostre osservazioni, anche se preliminari, confermano alcuni studi precedenti per cui il livello

di metalli tossici nel sangue dei pazienti oncologici in alcuni Comuni della Terra dei Fuochi è del tutto fuori norma. Il legame causale tra sviluppo tumorale ed esposizione a questi metalli è un fatto noto da tempo. Il superamento costante dei limiti di legge anche nel piccolo numero di individui esaminati nel nostro studio è un fatto di per sé allarmante, che quindi richiederebbe l’immediata estensione dell’analisi a una popolazione più ampia, così da avere una rappresentazione accurata sul fronte epidemiologico.

PRENDENDO SPUNTO DA ALCUNE POPOLAZIONI ESTREMAMENTE LONGEVE POSSIAMO NOTARE UN DENOMINATORE COMUNE: RESTRIZIONE CALORICA E DIETA A BASSO INDICE GLICEMICO. SI PUÒ AFFERMARE CHE UNA DIETA PRIVA DI ALIMENTI RAFFINATI E RICCA DI ANTIOSSIDANTI DETERMINI UNA DIMINUZIONE IN TERMINI DI INCIDENZA E PREVALENZA TUMORALE? L’incidenza delle patologie neoplastiche è in forte aumento e, di pari passo, è sempre più evidente la stretta correlazione che lega la trasformazione neoplastica ai fattori ambientali. Se si guarda agli studi sulla migrazione si scopre che, persone che migrano da una zona di alto rischio ad una di basso rischio

di cancro, o viceversa, nel loro corso della vita assumono i tassi di cancro del paese verso il quale si muovono, con ciò rendendo chiara la connessione tra cancro e ambiente.

Oltre l’inquinamento, gli stili di vita e la corretta alimentazione costituiscono una ulteriore e fondamentale arma di prevenzione contro lo sviluppo di tumori. Una alimentazione sana è rappresentata dalla ormai famosissima “Dieta Mediterranea” i cui effetti positivi sulla nostra salute sono ormai noti a tutti. Un ulteriore aspetto da tenere sotto controllo è riuscire a mantenere stabili i livelli di glicemia, scegliendo con attenzione i cibi da mangiare. Elemento principe della dieta mediterranea è, ad esempio, il pomodoro, alimento ricco di carotenoidi, tra cui il licopene, che è il più potente tra gli antiossidanti. In virtù di queste sue caratteristiche, il gruppo di ricerca da me coordinato studia le proprietà di alcuni tipi di pomodoro in relazione allo sviluppo di tumori.

In un lavoro, pubblicato sulla rivista scientifica Journal of Cellular Physiology nel 2018, abbiamo dimostrato che il trattamento con estratti totali di due varietà di pomodoro inibisce la crescita e le caratteristiche maligne delle cellule di cancro gastrico, aprendo la strada a studi futuri mirati all’identifica-

zione di buone abitudini alimentari non solo come strategia di prevenzione antitumorale, ma anche come possibile sostegno alle terapie convenzionali.

QUALE È IL PAESE ATTUALMENTE PIÙ COLPITO DALLA PIAGA DEI TUMORI E PERCHÉ?

Il tumore può essere considerato come la patologia del secolo. Non è facile individuare la quale sia il paese più colpito per una serie di motivazioni: se da un lato i paesi industrializzati, oggi hanno a disposizione tecnologie all’avanguardia per diagnosticare precocemente questa malattia, dall’altra l’industrializzazione si accompagna un elevato livello di inquinamento ambientale che gioca un ruolo chiave nello sviluppo dei tumori. Diagnosticare precocemente la malattia è una arma vincente, abbiamo la possibilità e sappiamo studiare migliaia di geni contemporaneamente così come sappiamo che incentivare programmi di screening riduce l’incidenza di svariate patologie.

La soluzione sarebbe prevenire laddove è possibile e attrezzare ed istruire le popolazioni meno abbienti che in alcuni casi potrebbero addirittura non essere in grado di individuare la patologia.

AMERICA VS ITALIA. QUANTO INVESTONO GLI STATES SULLA RICERCA RISPETTO ALL’ITALIA?E QUANTO È DIFFUSO IL FENOMENO DEL BRAIN DRAIN? Il governo degli Stati Uniti stanzia svariati milioni per supportare i progetti di ricerca.

L’Italia, però, in questa emergenza sanitaria mondiale si è distinta.

Finalmente è chiaro a tutti quanto sia importante, per una nazione, incentivare la ricerca scientifica.

condotto e pubblicato uno studio intitolato: “Genomic analysis reveals association of specific SNPs with athletic performance and susceptibility to injuries in professional soccer players”, in cui è stato analizzato l’impatto dei programmi di allenamento e dei regimi nutrizionali personalizzati dai medici ed allenatori dell’SSC Napoli, con lo scopo di migliorare la performance atletica e ridurre l’incidenza di infortuni fisici. Studi in tale direzione sono in corso anche per altre squadre di calcio.

COVID 19, SU QUESTO ARGOMENTO SONO TRANSITATE NOTIZIE DI OGNI GENERE, SMENTITE E CONFERMATE DI CONTINUO: QUANTO HANNO INFLUITO I MASS MEDIA SULL’ASPETTO PSICOLOGICO DELLA POPOLAZIONE? Il virus ha colto la popolazione mondiale di sorpresa e, nonostante gli sforzi dalla comunità scientifica ancora oggi, del Covid-19 sappiamo poco. Quotidianamente apprendiamo nuove informazioni sul virus per cui ritengo eticamente scorretto far circolare notizie forvianti che, nel corso di questo anno, hanno indotto una parte della popolazione, ad assumer atteggiamenti poco responsabili e, tanto anche rispetto alla somministrazione del vaccino.

Il virus si può essere sconfitto solo con l’unità e la ressponsabilità.

10) PROGETTI FUTURI? La mia attività di ricerca, da quando nel 1993, ho individuato e clonato il gene oncosoppressore RBL2/ p130, si è focalizzata sullo studio dei meccanismi di deregolazione del ciclo cellulare nel cancro. Ma oggi è ben noto che il tumore è una patologia multifattoriale e che tra le varie cause dello sviluppo c’è anche l’esposizione ad inquinanti ambientali.

Mi occupo di studiare precise alterazioni molecolari al fine di identificare nuove strategie terapeutiche per il mesotelioma ed il tumore al polmone, la cui eziologia è correlata all’esposizione ad inquinanti ambientali. Contestualmente, da anni, mi interesso alla situazione campana, meglio nota come “Terra dei Fuochi”, incoraggiando studi di biomonitoraggio, per incentivare attività di bonifica e provare a far ridurre l’incidenza di svariate patologie.

Ancora, valuto le potenzialità benefiche di alcuni alimenti che possono apportare benefici in termini di prevenzione e di miglior efficacia di trattamenti chemioterapici.

Infine, mi sto dedicando attivamente allo studio del nuovo virus Sars-Cov 2.

Tutti questi studi sono solo apparentemente scollegati tra loro, ma il fine ultimo e comune è di migliorare la qualità della vita dei pazienti e ridurre l’insorgenza di patologie severe.

STRESS, TUMORI E DIFESE IMMUNITARIE. QUALI RELAZIONI CAUSA - EFFETTO ?

I dati attualmente disponibili in letteratura scientifica non sono ancora sufficienti per dimostrare che lo stress costituisca una causa diretta di cancro. Sicuramente, condizioni di stress prolungate possono contribuire ad aggravare o peggiorare la prognosi.

Il paziente oncologico è un paziente fragile sotto ogni punto di vista; non è una malattia facile da affrontare e, pertanto, è consigliabile imparare a gestire lo stress.

Per quanto riguarda il sistema immunitario, invece, esso svolge un ruolo chiave, è la prima barriera che una cellula cancerosa deve affrontare: le difese immunitarie spesso sono in grado di riconoscere la cellula come anomala e di distruggerla prima che si possa replicare o diffondere.

Il nostro sistema di difesa naturale può essere stimolato ad agire in modo specifico contro il cancro ed infatti attualmente disponiamo dei cosiddetti vaccini anticancro che agiscono potenziando il sistema immunitario contro uno specifico tumore.

Come scienziato posso dire che la pandemia ci ha “ricordato” che la scienza è un diritto che dobbiamo alla popolazione mondiale, che bisogna sempre incentivare. È difficile affermare che la pandemia abbia avuto anche dei riscontri positivi, ma sforzandoci a cercarli, uno di questi è sicuramente il fatto che il ruolo della scienza ha finalmente avuto la sua rivincita.

Rispetto ai giovani li incoraggerei alla ricerca scientifica perché “senza ricerca non ci può essere futuro”.

HOME OF A NEW YORK-BASED JEWELLERY DESIGNER AND CURATOR, THIS INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT IS A CONSTRUCTION OF WHITE, MINIMALIST ARCHITECTURE. THE DESIGNER BEHIND THE PROJECT, JESSICA GERSTEN, WANTED TO CREATE A STRONG SENSE OF EARTHINESS AND CONNECTION TO NATURE WITH NATURAL ELEMENTS OF METAL AND STONE, CONTRASTED WITH GOLD AND SILVER, WHICH IS A REFLECTION OF THE CLIENT’S IDENTITY. THE RESULT IS A LUXURY HOME GROUNDED IN EARTH WHILE INSPIRING AN ELEGANT “ZEN” SENSIBILITY. In Tenafly, New Jersey, those natural elements form the basis for an interior design project that is luxurious yet inviting, dominated by a warm, neutral palette. “We wanted a strong sense of earthiness in the home,” says interior designer Jessica Gersten, noting the contrast to the newly built structure’s white, minimalist shell. “We wanted there to be a connection to nature. There is a little bit in every single room.”

It was one mandate of the designer clients: Danielle Gregory, a designer and curator of jewellery collections for private clients, and her husband, Troy Gregory. Further inspiration for the exclusive design came from the Amangiri resort in the Utah deserta commanding arrangement of geometric concrete

planes that artfully play off the region’s rugged beauty, decorated with items in natural materials, hues and textures. This may seem an unlikely influence for a project in suburban New Jersey, but for the Gregorys, the resort’s organic principles and monumental scale created a sense of serenity they aimed to replicate.

In this interior design project that sensibility can be seen in the bright family room, where caterpillarlike Togo sofas by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset are covered in a charcoal and white fabric from Donghia that gives the appearance of stone- an allusion that’s mirrored in the mineral pattern of the custom Tibetano rug. The connection to nature is enhanced via a link to the outdoors through a limestone-clad loggia, which can be enclosed with mesh screens and heated for indoor-outdoor living in the fall.

In the modern living room, striped Armani Casa wallpaper gives the feeling, Gersten notes, of being “in a clamshell.” The split Minotti Hamilton sectionals and Mushroom City drum tables of varying heights and diameters, in a combination of brass and blackened-pewter finishes, are strewn about in a way that activates the space for a dynamic, loungelike effect.

For the New York-based interior designer, the Tenafly home was a chance to dig in on a large, groundup residence-by architect Anthony Minichetti and

built by Chris Lombardo of Rockridge Construction Management—after a series of Manhattan apartments and one previous project in Tenafly with the Gregorys, decorating their “starter home” Gersten came to interiors following a fashion career with Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani that allowed her to hone her sense of colour balance, texture, proportion and overall vision.

“In fashion, it’s about how textures, colours and proportions come together in one outfit. The same goes for interiors: playing with the scale of a room and how all the different proportions of the furniture speak to each other, and the texture of the rug and the upholstery and having the right balance of hard items and soft items,” she says. “So a little bit of each and not too much of any one thing.”

That philosophy is evident in the elegant gentleman’s den with a moody charcoal palette, where tree trunk-shaped brass-covered Eden center tables by Boca Do Lobo and a grey onyx bar offer an earthy contrast to a sartorial tufted A. Rudin sofa covered in lustrous, metallic fabric.

The various themes reach an apex in the contemporary dining room. There, matte surfaces are galvanized by a showstopper chandelier of polished nickel, brass and bronze custom-designed by Lon-

don-based Tom Kirk, with significant input from decorator and client. The glamour of the chandelier, herringbone wood floors, Robert Polidori photo of Versailles and masonry fireplace create an aura of formality. Still, it remains an inviting space, with its unexpected ’70s-style chairs from Living Divani and homey, organically shaped ceramics by Gilles Caffier.

The kitchen design is a similar study in taupe, accented by high-gloss cabinetry, striated stone surfaces and amber lighting by Studio Van den Akker. The chrome-and-leather Arete bucket chairs are another subtle ’70s reference a nod to Danielle’s fondness for interiors from James Bond movies of that period also seen in the vintage Pierre Paulin chair in her teenage son’s bedroom. Throughout, the pervading sense is one of warmth.

Sin da piccolo amavo “giocare” con le parole, più che con i giocattoli tipici dei bambini. Per me rappresentavano qualcosa di più dei segni convenzionali, erano il mondo in cui mi rifugiavo.

QUANTO SACRIFICI HAI DOVUTO FARE PER COLTIVARE LA TUA CARRIERA NEL MONDO DELLO SHOW-BIZ? Tantissimi. Sono una persona molto determinata e non mi accontento facilmente. Devo sempre competere con me stesso per affermarmi sempre di più.

Per questo motivo non mi sono accontentato solo di fare il giornalista ma al contrario mi sono messo in discussione in vari settori. Per primo in quello della moda.

COME TI SEI ACCORTO DI POSSEDERE QUESTE QUALITÀ?

Per le riviste nazionali per le quali avevo iniziato a lavorare curavo anche i servizi fotografici, e pian piano mi sono avvicinato anche alla moda che è diventato un mio secondo interesse. Ho iniziato a rappresentare modelli/e alla fashion week milanesi; ho avuto il ruolo di Presidente di giuria in diversi concorsi di bellezza nazionali; sono Direttore artistico di Mister Intimo e Miss Lingerie; sono patron di alcuni concorsi ideati da me; la rivista di settore moda Miss magazine mi ha voluto come Direttore; insegno moduli di comunicazione in accademie di spettacolo; alcuni personaggi richiedono le mie consulenze come fashion consultant per la loro immagine; e coordino le pagine moda della rivista internazionale DEAMINA MAGAZINE. Insomma

di palestra ne ho fatta tanta.

E DALLA MODA INVECE SEI FINITO ANCHE ALLA TELEVISIONE… Si dal 2012 ho iniziato a ideare, scrivere format nazionali trasmessi da Canale Italia, e su alcune emittenti private. L’ultima mia creatura in ordine di creazione è il reality Affinity che sarà tramesso su un importante piattaforma di streaming view ad inizio del prossimo anno. Nel frattempo firmo come autore televisivo il programma Il punto, un talk show che nonostante sia tramesso da una rete del Sud Italia, riusciamo ad avere risonanza anche a livello nazionale. È RISAPUTO ANCHE IL TUO GRANDE LAVORO COME TALENT SCOUT. Sì ma quello fondamentalmente è un aspetto del mio lavoro che mi diverte di più, perché avendo scelto di ampliare e approfondire le mie conoscenze nel campo della comunicazione e dell’immagine, in qualità di Press Agent presto anche le mie conoscenze in ambito televisivo, e per tale ragione oltre a rappresentare alcune celebrities, mi piace tenere vivo il mio intuito per scovare talenti in vari campi.

IN QUALI AMBITI RISCUOTI MAGGIORI CONSENSI TRA I TALENTI VERSO CUI VAI ALLA RICERCA? Sicuramente a livello televisivo mi piace trovare le personalità più originali e proporle in seguito ai programmi televisivi, senza dimenticare di volgere un occhio alla moda.

COSA PENSI DEI TALENT SHOW? Sono molto importanti nell’era attuale, soprattutto quelli televisivi. Talent come Amici per esempio

svolgono un ruolo fondamentale per la discografia odierna, e per compagnie teatrali di grande respiro internazionale.

HAI DETTO DI AVER FATTO IL PRESIDENTE DI GIURIA PER DEI CONCORSI DI BELLEZZA. TI SEI MAI TROVATO A GIUDICARE ANCHE TALENTI MUSICALI E/O ALTRO? Assolutamente sì, e anche in questo a dire il vero mi diletto abbastanza. Partiamo dal presupposto che anche io sono un cantante, da adolescente fino a qualche anno fa ho fatto serate di pianobar, feste di piazza, ho fatto parte come solista di un coro gospel, pertanto qualcosa di musicane capisco. Così ho composto la giuria del Roma Music Fest e alcuni ragazzi che ho premiato hanno poi preso parte a talent televisivi; ho fatto parte della giuria dello Speak easy Lab di Milano e sono direttore artistico del Top Talent show una vetrina importantissima per tutte le discipline artistiche.

PROSSIMAMENTE SU COSA SARAI IMPEGNATO? Prossimo mese uscirà “Cuore di sabbia” la mia seconda silloge di poesia edita dalla Pav edizioni.

Racconta un decennio di vita vissuta tra il 2010 e il 2020 un periodo in cui ho fatto delle scelte di vita importanti sotto più punti di vista e così mi è venuto naturale le mie emozioni nel corso di questi dieci anni.

PRIMA DI QUESTA RACCOLTA COSA HAI PUBBLICATO? Frammenti d’anima che invece racconta una prospettiva di vita completamente diversa e che si è sviluppata nel periodo che intercorre tra il 2000 e il 2010. Ma è un libro completamente diverso a livello emotivo. “Cuore di Sabbia” racconta un Flavio che ha raggiunto una completa consapevolezza di se stesso in relazione alla sua vita.

SUI SOCIAL SEI CONOSCIUTO COME SIR FLAVIO. COME MAI QUESTO APPELLATIVO NOBILIARE? Mi ha sempre affascinato l’araldica.

Sono un grande fan della Regina Elisabetta, quindi non potrei desiderare diversamente che essere un suo signorotto (Sir ndr).

Poi mia nonna in effetti mi ha raccontato da piccolo di essere discendente da una famiglia nobile calabrese, e così per identificazione personale mi sono dato l’appellativo di Sir (ride ndr).

JOHNNY DEPP’S FRENCH VILLAGE & GEORGE STRAIT’S TEXAS MANSION “KING OF COUNTRY GEORGE STRAIT’S TEXAS MANSION” Known to country music fans as the King of Country, George Strait is selling his adobe mansion in San Antonio on a 12.2-acre hilltop. Designed by sculptor-turned-architect, Bill Tull, the home took two years to build. It is priced at $7.5 million.

A powerhouse in country music, Strait has received more awards and honors than almost anyone in music. He holds the record for the most #1 albums and singles, gold albums, platinum albums and multi-platinum albums in the history of country music.

He also has the largest number of #1 songs and top five songs than anyone in music history, and is the only one in any music genre to have songs in the top 10 for 30 years in a row. Strait has sold over 70,000,000 albums in the U.S. alone.

Strait and his wife, Norma, bought the land in the upscale Dominion Country Club neighborhood of San Antonio in the mid-1990s. After deciding on sculpture/architect Bill Tull, Tull moved his staff to San Antonio where they resided for the two years the home was under construction. The 7,925-square-foot mansion, with its scenic views, has 14 handsculpted fireplaces, four bedrooms and seven baths.

The main residence consists of three bedrooms and six baths plus a fully self-contained casita with one bedroom and bath, living room and kitchenette.

Each main-house bedroom is ensuite with its own fireplace. The master suite has separate his-and-her bathrooms and closets and two fireplaces. Additionally, there is a chef ’s kitchen, gym with separate bath and sauna and multiple venues for dining and entertaining large groups, both inside and outside on paved terraces. Views over San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country from the infinity-edged, glass-tile pool and spa catch the sunset and twinkling lights below. The home has undergone almost a complete update from the roof to new windows since 2020.

Outstanding design features include stained-glass windows, artist murals, earthy saguaro cactus rib shutters, and walls of imported adobe.

Still going strong, Strait has two concert dates rescheduled in 2021 due to Covid. The first is scheduled for July 31st in Minneapolis with guests Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town and the second at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend on August 7th.

Special guests at his “Strait to South Bend” show will be Chris Stapleton and the Brothers Osborne.

The listing agent is Tamara Strait, George’s daughterin-law, with Phyllis Browning Co., Boerne, Texas.

“JOHNNY DEPP’S FRENCH VILLAGE” Johnny Depp appears to be ready to relist his stunning French village estate. According to a recent news report, Depp will be putting the village back

on the market at $55.5 million. Depp had listed the village in 2015 and 2016 at various prices from $27 million to $63 million, but it did not sell.

In 2001 at the height of his Pirates of the Caribbean films franchise, Depp purchased the abandoned, 19th-century Provençal village located only 17 miles from the celebrity hot spot of Saint-Tropez. Depp then spent millions of dollars renovating the buildings during his 14-year relationship with French-actress-andsinger Vanessa Paradis. Turning the property into an idyllic place to live, the couple enjoyed the estate and local surroundings until their relationship began going downhill, leading to their permanent separation.

Depp’s village includes the main house, six guest homes (one was the original village church), a private restaurant Chez Marceline, a covered wagon with bath and kitchen, and an art studio. Together, the living space is 12,900 square feet with 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms. Depp has spent over $10 million in preserving the stone-and-wood-beamed structures without destroying their original features. Grounds include two swimming pools, a charming town square with lush landscaping and outdoor dining, a skate park, a

full gym, and a wine cave. Grounds are dotted with 300-year-old oaks, olive trees, and vineyards.

Depp has been the owner of several unusual properties over the years including a collection of penthouses in downtown Los Angeles, a 45-acre private island in the Bahamas, and a horse farm in Kentucky that he purchased twice.

Saint-Tropez became popular with the jet-set crowd in the 1950s when Bridgette Bardot arrived to film And God Created Woman and never left. Many celebrities followed Bardot’s footsteps, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Moss, Beyonce and Jay-Z, Elton John, and all the major clothing designers, making it one of the most popular vacation towns on the French Riviera.

SEYCHELLES, VACANZA DA CELEBRITIES

RELAX E INTIMITÀ IN UNO DEI LUOGHI PIÙ UNICI AL MONDO DOVE MOLTE STAR HANNO TROVATO L’AMORE, COCCOLATI DALLE ONDE DELL’OCEANO E AVVOLTI DAI PROFUMI DELLE SPEZIE LE ISOLE DELL’OCEANO INDIANO SONO SEMPRE STATE UNA META MOLTO AMBITA DALLE COPPIE IN LUNA DI MIELE, AFFASCINATE DALLE BIANCHE SPIAGGE E DAL MARE CRISTALLINO. Negli anni però questo paradiso terrestre ha dimostrato di non essere solo una semplice cornice dove vivere la propria favola d’amore, ma piuttosto una terra incontaminata dove condividere esperienze mai provate prima, il tutto lontano da occhi indiscreti. Lo sanno bene alcune coppie famose che sono volate nel cuore dell’oceano indiano per riaccendere la fiamma o per godersi un momento di intimità tra tartarughe giganti, lezioni di snorkeling e passeggiate romantiche al tramonto.

il rarissimo pappagallino nero. Qui si trova un’intera foresta di Coco-de-mer: un seme che nasce spontaneo solo in questa parte del mondo che gli antichi veneravano per le sue presunte proprietà afrodisiache. A Praslin si trova poi Anse Lazio, una delle dieci spiagge più belle al mondo, ma anche St. Pierre: luogo ideale per il nuoto, lo snorkelling e per chiunque voglia godersi dei tramonti spettacolari. Avventurandosi poi verso Curieuse Island è possibile incontrare sul proprio cammino le tartarughe giganti e quelle marine.

Per chi invece è meno affascinato dalle fughe romantiche tra la natura selvaggia, la tappa migliore è l’isola Mahé dove sorge la capitale Victoria: una città viva e spumeggiante, ricca di colori e profumi inebrianti. Imperdibile il mercato “Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clarke Market” dove immergersi totalmente nella cultura creola e acquistare frutta, verdura, pesce fresco e spezie. Cuore pulsante delle Seychelles, l’isola di Mahé, è famosa anche per il suo giardino “Du Roi Spice Garden” dove crescono varie spezie che creano un mix di profumi inebrianti di vaniglia, citronella, cannella, pepe e curry. Odori e sapori che vale la pena riscoprire magari durante una cena romantica, assaporando piatti tipici rivisitati da grandi chef e cocktail abbinati.

LA SOFROLOGIA COME ARMA CONTRO LO STRESS PANDEMICO a cura di GIULIA DEAMINA

NEL 2003 IN SEGUITO ALLA PANDEMIA DOVUTA ALLA SARS SI REGISTRO UN AUMENTO DI 30% DEI CASI DI SUICIDIO NELLA FASCIA DI ETA SUPERIORE AI 45 ANNI E CIRCA 50% OSPEDALIZZATI SVILUPPÒ UN DISTURBO D’ ANSIA. L’attuale situazione pandemica impatta sulla qualità della vita sociale di ciascuno di noi, questo disagio prolungato lascia il segno sull’equilibrio psico-fisico della popolazione, soprattutto per i soggetti più esposti.

I principali fattori di rischio psicologico coinvolti sono: - pregressa malattia psichiatrica - giovane età (16-24) - non avere figli oppure avere un figlio solo.

- condizione di immigrato, inteso anche come studente in Erasmus in italia.

- peggioramento condizioni socio-economiche.

- isolamento sociale

Un approccio multidisciplinare appare essere la soluzione più completa per contrastare gli aspetti della crisi e le ripercussioni che essa provoca. Da questo punto di vista il sofrologo rappresenta il trait d’union tra il soggetto in difficoltà e la medicina clinica.

Egli dovrà in primo luogo tradurre il linguaggio delle informazioni, in un messaggio corretto e preciso per il paziente soprattutto in termini di SEMANTICA, assicurandosi l’efficacia delle enunciazioni al destinatario.

La mancanza di coralità da parte delle istituzioni nelle divulgazioni pubbliche si concretizza infatti in un aumento dello stato ansioso della popolazione, dovuto al futuro sempre più incerto, il quale a sua volta è uno dei fattori trigger di comportamenti psicotici e suicidari in particolare nei giovani.

Anche tra i professionisti sanitari si registrano aumenti di PTSD (disturbo da stress post traumatico) con sintomi come: - alterazioni ritmo sonno-veglia - aumento del consumo di psicofarmaci.

- perdita di peso.

- aumento di consumo di caffè - isolamento sociale.

Quali proposte terapeutiche può intraprendere il SOFROLOGO in situazioni del genere?

Innanzitutto il sofrologo dovrà: - fotografare lo “status” psicologico del paziente, riconoscendo la causa del disagio, i sintomi dello stress associato (fisici, psicologici e comportamentali) - il tipo di stress: ACUTO, di recente insorgenza e più facile risoluzione oppure CRONICO nel quale il paziente si trova spesso intrappolato in una serie di

tentativi di risoluzioni vani.

- valutare eventuali SINDROMI DA ADATTAMENTO: situazioni in cui la persistente situazione di stress, cronicizza portando l’individuo ad esaurimento nervoso per fallimento dei meccanismi di compensazione ALLOSTASI. SUCCCESSIVAMENTE, attraverso a cosiddetta MARCIA SOFRONICA, il sofrologo tenterà di ripristinare la naturale connessione tra il paziente ed il proprio corpo, dopo aver indotto il paziente ad entrare in uno stato di rilassamento attraverso la respirazione e l’allentamento delle tensioni muscolari.

I benefici del rilassamento ormai sono ben conosciuti, ma in questo caso risultano indispensabili per favorire il cosiddetto “stato sofrologico”, condizione ideale in cui l’operatore Sofrologo può operare il cambiamento di benessere nel paziente.

Dovranno inoltre essere eliminati tutti i fattori di condizionamento negativi in grado di incidere sul rilassamento ossia: - tensioni dei muscoli lisci - tensioni dei muscoli striati - tensioni articolari - tensioni vascolari.

In questo modo, seduta dopo seduta, il paziente imparerà’ a rapportarsi nuovamente con il proprio corpo, allentando tutte le chiusure psicologiche impostate dal proprio inconscio che, come sappiamo, raccoglie tutte le esperienze di vita vissuta, anche quelle che noi consciamente “cestiniamo” considerandole dannose o poco rilevanti.

Questa riscoperta interiore permettere di sviluppare nuove abitudini mentali, e a gestire il corpo, la respirazione e le emozioni come veri e propri strumenti per il MANAGING dello stress.

OVVIAMENTE è indispensabile che il percorso predisposto dal sofrologo venga seguito scrupolosamente senza interruzioni, ed esclusivo: cioè cucito su misura per il paziente in questione.

La professionalità, la neutralità di giudizio e l’empatia del sofrologo saranno gli ingredienti chiave nel percorso riabilitativo del paziente.

ENDEAVOR RX. LA NUOVA FRONTIERA FARMACOLOGICA PEDIATRICA, RAPPRESENTATA DA UN VIDEOGIOCO? È GIÀ PRESENTE E SI CHIAMA ENDEAVOR RX, NON UN VIDEOGIOCO MA BENSÌ UNA VERA E PROPRIA PRESCRIZIONE FARMACOLOGICA CON TANTO DI POSOLOGIA, VEDIAMO NEL DETTAGLIO. L’ADHD : La sindrome da deficit di attenzione e iperattività (ADHD) è un disturbo neuropsichico che influenza lo sviluppo del bambino e dell’adolescente.

Questa condizione è caratterizzata da: • Evidenti livelli di disattenzione; Iperattività (attività motoriaeccessiva, persi• stente e continuativa); • Difficoltà di controllo degli impulsicomportamentali e verbali.

• Tutti i bambini/adolescenti possono presentare, in determinate situazioni, uno o più dei comportamenti descritti, ma nell’ADHD tali comportamenti sono inadeguati rispetto allo stadio di

sviluppo ad insorgenza precoce (prima dei 7 anni), pervasivi (espressi in almeno due contesti tra casa, scuola, ambiente di svago) significativamente interferenti con le attività quotidiane.

Le cause della sindrome da deficit di attenzione e iperattività non sono ancora del tutto note, ma l’origine del disturbo sembra dipendere dalla combinazione di fattori ambientali, sociali, comportamentali, biochimici e genetici. Le terapie possono essere comportamentali, farmacologiche o entrambe, il farmaco di prima scelta è il MetIlfenidato( Ritalin) inserito nella tabella dei farmaci stupefacenti (IIA) medicinali erogabili tramite presentazione di ricetta ministeriale a ricalco.Il farmaco esercita la sua azione “aumentando la disponibilità della dopamina, la molecola “della gratificazione”, e della noradrenalina responsabile della “vigilanza” da parte dei neuroni.

Questa mancata disponibilità sarebbe alla base del comportamento dei soggetti affetti da ADHD. L’azienda statunitense AKILII, pietra miliare della cosiddette TERAPIE DIGITALI, ha segnato L’inizio di una nuova era, la farmacologia digitale. Stiamo

parlando di un vero e proprio videogioco, approvato dalla FDA come il primo FARMACO per l’ADHD. “Unlike any treatment that’s come before” Tuona così il rallying cry della venture a stelle e striscie, composta da mash up di professionisti sanitari, analisti ed ingegneri informatici di altissimo livello; come dargli torto, in effetti! Chi avrebbe mai pensato che un videogames potesse un giorno prendere il posto di un medicinale per la cura di una patologia così delicata.

Il “videogioco” è stato testato su oltre 600 bambini affetti da ADHD attraverso 5 studi clinici. Il mec-

canismo d’azione di questo farmaco risiede nella capacità di stimolare attraverso impulsi sensoriali le aree cerebrali maggiormente implicate nella patologia e quindi carenti dei neurotrasmettitori sopracitati (CORTEX FRONTALE, nuclei alla base e cervelletto).

Quando si accede al videogioco infatti il personaggio deve superare i livelli attraversando un percorso ricco di insidie ed ostacoli, trappole ed oggetti da schivare, alla tomb raider se vogliamo, ma senza la benché minima violenza. Questo tipo di approccio costringe il player ad immergersi totalmente nel vivo del gioco, sviluppando così una serie di “skills” necessarie per finire i livelli, caratteristiche come coordinazione, velocità di esecuzione, elaborazione, concentrazione e capacità decisionale.

Durante il trials clinico del videogioco il 68% dei genitori intervistati ha riferito un miglioramento significativo dei deficit di attenzione nei figli dopo 2 mesi di terapia.

Inoltre il videogioco, proprio come un farmaco, presenta il proprio bugiardino, con tanto di effetti collaterali (per lo più nausea e mal di testa) e posologia: in questo caso la personalizzazione prevede di monitorare le ore di sessione, la difficoltà del livello di gioco e la durata complessiva del trattamento. Congiuntamente con il proprio specialista pediatrico lo staff AKILII care si occupa di fornire l’assistenza adeguata e di rispondere alle principali domande che spontaneamente sorgono dai genitori.

Attualmente il sistema sanitario americano non ha ancora incluso una corpetura assicurativa relativa ad ENDEAVOR rx, tuttavia i tecnici di AKILII confermato che la richiesta ed under construction.
