Here are my parting hopes for the NPDA: • If you are a Dealer, large or small, join the NPDA. It is a modest annual investment in a better future for you, your Dealership and your customers.

• If you are a Manufacturer, be big enough and generous enough to recognize that the NPDA is not a threat but an opportunity for a stronger, more cohesive industry in pursuit of growth that serves all.

- Urge and incentivize your Dealers to become members of the NPDA - Reach out to initiate dialogue with the NPDA around ways we can cooperate — and grow!

SEMPER FI Once A Dealer, Always A Dealer?

T

he National Powersports Dealer Association (NPDA) will soon be five years old. It was formed to do what dealer associations in the Auto, Marine and RV industries do for their Dealers. The one caveat being NPDA was late to the party — those other industry associations were formed between five and seven decades ago! Today, SEMA, NADA, RVDA/RVIA, NMMA/MRAA continue to thrive; serving their Dealers by growing their markets; acting as equal partners with their manufacturers in promoting the common good.

The NPDA is working hard to make up for lost time, but needs your help and involvement.

My time with the NPDA has come to an end as I sold the last of my ownership interest in my Dealerships a few months ago, so I am no longer eligible to serve. As the U.S. Marines say, “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”, so, too, I am sure I will always proudly be a Dealer. And with Robin and the team at Dealernews, I will do my best to serve my brother and sister Dealers — just in other ways.

Look, our industry is too small to do anything other than lock arms as we confront our problems and our opportunities. We are stronger together… but divided we will fall.

However it isn’t just Harley that has lost its way and could use a little Fordism. New Year’s is a time for reflection and resolutions for all of us to do better. Forget the trials and tribulations of the past year and start with a fresh slate and renewed energy.

enry Ford was a genius. However it was not the assembly line, the Model T or the ubiquitous Model A… his true genius was the understanding that he could create a mass consumer market for his products by making them affordable and paying high wages. This “Fordism” philosophy served the test of time, a Great Depression, several recessions and a couple of World Wars.

A full 10 years after William S. Davidson and Arthur Harley started cobbling together a motorcycle in a 10x15 shed, Harley-Davidson moved into a state-of-theart six-floor brick factory in 1913. Coincidentally Ford was manufacturing Model Ts on a moving assembly line (and paying auto workers $5 a day) in 1913. Brilliant!

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success,” Henry added.

That is where the powersports industry finds itself right now. We are literally on the eve of a New Year and a trade show designed to “Connect, Engage and Unite” all of us. Lord knows we need to get it together after the past couple of years!

received the keys back in April, there has been a rally cry from dealers who are ready to support a brand that believes in their products, employees and their future of offering premium products to their consumers.” This support has so far increased new Arctic Cat dealer interest two-fold, with goals to continue at a measured pace, placing Arctic Cat products and quality dealer service closer to consumers who live to ride.

The addition of recent team members is augmented

HONDA INVESTS IN U.S. MFG.

Honda is investing $9.658 million to modernize its North Carolina Manufacturing (NCM) plant. The plan calls associates at the facility to build critical components for ATVs in-house, including fenders, side covers, toolbox covers and smaller items. Honda’s investment will add new equipment, create 18 new jobs, and provide learning and upskilling opportunities for associates over the next five years.

“By equipping Honda North Carolina Manufacturing with important new capabilities to build key parts for our products right here at the facility, we can continue growing our ATV business in North Carolina,” explains Lynne Hedrick, site lead at NCM. “We are grateful for the continued support from Alamance County and look forward to the benefits this investment will provide to our associates and the region.”

Please join us in congratulating Steve on an incredible career and wishing him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.” Dickinson says, “Well I guess the cat’s out of the bag but today is the last day. I got this nice blurb in the Bulletin. It has been a lot of fun working with this company and the great people that work there. I’m going to miss the people at Parts Unlimited the most. Prior to picking up Sullivans, Parts Unlimited added to its rep force. Tim Queen is now calling on dealers in the Central East Region covering southern Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Queen comes to Parts Unlimited with several years of experience both on the dealer level as well as the aftermarket distribution sales level. An active rider and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Queen served as the Vice Commander of the American Legion Riders Post 639.

His vast stable of bikes includes a Harley Street Glide and a Suzuki V-Strom as well as many motocross/off-road bikes along the way. In his spare time, Queen follows amateur wrestling (as would be expected of a Division 1 grappler) enjoys traveling and attending live music festivals.

His deep industry knowledge and passion for powersports will help us drive growth and deliver even greater value to our dealer network. Speaking of dealerships, Oliva ran his own operation — Lithium Motorsports Inc. — for more than a decade before becoming Sales Manager for Midwest Honda, Suzuki in Sioux City, Iowa, circa 2010-2013. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Oliva’s passion for powersports runs deep.

Raised in Pennsylvania, he developed a love for riding on a Honda Mini Trail 50.

After serving as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, he pursued college studies and roadracing, a passion that continues today. He remains an active enthusiast, enjoying time on the track and with his family. fter making a splash at AIMExpo in 2025, Denago PowerSports more than doubled its dealer network in the past 12 months… but that was just the beginning. “We are keeping the throttle pinned as we roar into 2026,” says David Garibyan, Denago PowerSports General Manager. “A new dealer portal will streamline ordering and tracking, and we’re building our accessory lineup to include gloves and goggles and much more. Even more exciting will be the new vehicles we’ll unveil in 2026!”

The Freelander 350FI 4x4 is being joined on display at AIMExpo by a new Freelander 200FI. But the big news – figuratively and literally – is the debut of the RanchHawk 650 UTV! Denago PowerSports has been upending the market for affordable ATVs and dirtbikes, and is “AIMing” to do the same in the UTV launch in Anaheim. To achieve this lofty goal, the RanchHawk 650FI is packed with high end features but is more affordably priced than any UTV on the market.

“The RanchHawk continues Denago’s legacy of providing the best value in powersports, offering the most standard features at an affordable price point,” continues Garibyan. “While some of our competitors charge extra for windshields, bumpers, doors, and towing kits, we include them as standard equipment so our customers will get more for their money.”

RanchHawk drivers are treated to features unavailable in this segment, like color TFT instrumentation behind a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, plus a massive TFT infotainment screen on the center console that links up via Bluetooth to deliver a standard audio system, GPS mapping and YouTube streaming. The windshield pivots at adjustable angles and can be folded down for an openair experience.

Motivation comes from a fuel-injected 620cc overheadcam engine that’s larger and more powerful than its class rivals, claims Garibyan. Power is transmitted via an automatic CVT transmission and maintenance-free shaftdrive. It features adjustable remote-reservoir shocks delivering 13 inches of ground clearance. “The suspension is tuned to deliver a smooth ride over all kinds of terrain, whether on a ranch or exploring OHV parks,” he notes.

lthough Denago PowerSports has been in the U.S. market since July 2023, the brand was largely under the radar…. Until AIMExpo 2025. “We had dealers seeking us out at the tradeshow rather than the other way around,” says General Manager David Garibyan.

The tradeshow served as a catalyst to make Dengao the fastest growing powersports line in the U.S. “We began last year with 73 authorized Denago PowerSports dealers, which was an exemplary achievement for a brand only 16 months old,” Garibyan notes. “Today, as we turn the page on 2025, more than 150 dealers have discovered the Denago difference. HARLEY-DAVIDSON Q3 RESULTS

T

hat which does not kill us only serves to make us stronger, suggested a German philosopher; however the consensus is that the Jochen Zeitz era has many pundits declaring it is time for last rights to be administered to The Motor Company. So what is the state of Harley-Davidson’s financial affairs being inherited by incoming President and CEO Artie Starrs?

“Our Q3 results demonstrate the positive impact of the HDFS transaction and reinforce the strategic value HDFS brings to Harley-Davidson’s overall business model,” claims Starrs, readily admitting retail is soft. “While retail sales remain challenged, I’m truly energized by what I’ve experienced across the Company, in dealerships and with the broader rider community.” However he believes there is life left in Harley, particularly its dealer body.

“While there is a lot of work ahead of us, our success begins with our dealers - when they thrive, HarleyDavidson thrives. Going forward you can expect an

intensified focus on the key drivers of sustainable growth: strong and profitable dealerships, growing the powerful connection riders have with our brand, locally relevant marketing, and capital-efficient growth,” said Starrs in announcing the Q3 financials.

Commenting on the HDFS transaction, CFO Jonathan Root explains: “The completion of the HDFS transaction with KKR and PIMCO marks a transformative milestone for Harley-Davidson. We are unlocking significant value while transforming Harley-Davidson Financial Services into a capital-light, de-risked business. This transaction releases over $1.2 billion in discretionary cash and sets the foundation for higher returns and sustained growth.

Importantly, Harley-Davidson retains full control and majority ownership of HDFS - ensuring no change for our dealers or customers, which we believe continues to drive long-term value creation.”

HDFS Transaction Update – Strategic Partnership with KKR and PIMCO Unlocks Significant Discretionary Cash According to Root, the HDFS transaction includes three key elements: 1) Back Book Sale: Sale of approximately $6 billion of existing HDFS loan receivables 2) Forward Flow Agreement: Sale of future HDFS loan originations 3) Sale of Equity Interests: Sale of a 9.8% common equity interest in HDFS to KKR and PIMCO The bottom line is that the PIMCO/KKR deal is expected to unlock approximately $1.2 - $1.25 billion in discretionary cash no later than the end of the first quarter of 2026 as HDFS completes its debt reduction activities. The timeline actually started back in July: • July: Harley-Davidson announced HDFS strategic partnership with KKR and PIMCO to transform HDFS into a capitallight, de-risked business model. HDFS expects to continue to originate and service both new and existing retail loans • August: Completed sale of residual interests in securitized finance receivables of approximately $1.9 billion, along with related debt of $1.7 billion • October: Completed agreements for the Back Book Sale, Forward Flow Agreement, and Sale of Equity Interests So far, so good: HDFS operating income was $439 million (reflecting impact of HDFS transaction through end of Q3).

In turn, this bumped HDMC revenue up 23% versus the prior year at a time when global motorcycle retail sales were down 6% from 2024.

HDFS’ operating income increased by $362 million in the third quarter or 472 percent versus prior year, driven by the impact of the HDFS transaction. The increase was primarily due to a lower provision for credit losses and higher other income, partially offset by lower net interest income and higher operating expenses. The increase in other income includes a $27 million gain on the sale of residual interests in securitized finance receivables.

Third quarter HDMC Revenue was up 23% — driven primarily by an increase in wholesale shipments, where net global pricing was flat and product mix and foreign currency were slightly favorable. Motorcycle revenue was up 34%, driven by global motorcycle shipments increasing 33% versus prior year. Parts & Accessories revenue was down 4% and Apparel revenue was up 1%.

Third quarter HDMC gross margin was down 3.7 points versus prior year, due to unfavorable operating leverage, the cost of new or increased tariffs implemented this year, and unfavorable foreign currency impacts. These factors were partially offset by the favorable impact of net pricing and mix. Third quarter operating income margin was down 1.3 points due to the factors above, while operating expense was $20 million higher than a year ago.

But what really matters is how many motorcycles are being sold vs. spread sheet sleight of hand, right? Global retail motorcycle sales in the third quarter were down 6% versus the prior year, reflecting continued soft demand amid unfavorable consumer confidence, high relative interest rates, and inflation concerns. North America retail performance was down 5 percent. International retail performance was down 9%, where EMEA was weaker than the APAC region, and Latin America experienced modest growth.

Among the latest hires, a couple stand out to Gatto. Marcus Fischer led Subaru’s rebuild managing their marketing under Tom Doll, when he took the CEO position at Subaru.

If you have not watched the YouTube interviews with NADA and Tom, I highly recommend them. He and Artie have similar views on partnering with the dealer network to rebuild the brand. Both have said that “dealers are the brand” Gatto is also betting new CMO Matthew Ryan will pay off.

“He comes from a relationship marketing background at Pinnacle Entertainment, Caesars Entertainment and Boyd Gaming. These guys aren’t your run of the mill marketing minds, they are first class.

Artie has made it clear that “all leadership will be dealer focused”. This is huge based on dealer experiences from the last five years. When you meet Artie you can see and feel his enthusiasm for the brand, H-D employees and the dealer network. It’s going to be a lot of work and we are all going to have to work together, but this is what a rebuild looks like.

“I know I have been critical of JZ, and angered some folks,” Gatto concedes. “Being the Chairman of the NPDA H-D Dealer Council, we were in the middle of a fire storm.

Hundreds of angry dealers contacting us asking us to do something. We wrote multiple letters to HDMC leadership, to no avail. We tried to have meetings, but JZ cut us off. One letter was leaked to the Wall Street Journal (not by us), and H Partners jumped in the fray to remove JZ and the board members who protected him. We did everything possible to help and felt like we had a small part in the final result.

Big thanks to the HD dealers on our council, every one of them had a part in this.”

This message strikes a chord with dealers. National Powersports Dealer Association’s Harley-Davidson Council Chair George Gatto hosted new CEO Artie Starrs at his Three Rivers Harley-Davidson dealership. “He spent time with each department, asked a lot of questions, including what H-D could do better,” says Gatto. “He took plenty of notes.”

As NPDA says, #WeAreBetterTogether Haywire is behind us, the future is looking better every week! “I have to let go of my anger about the last 5 years.

It’s over, it’s done,” concludes Gatto. “Time to look forward.

There really are good things happening with H-D because we have a new leader who gets it.”

According to The Motor Company, the shift is designed to strengthen the company’s leadership, reinforce its dedication to its rider and dealer community, and deepen its commitment to Milwaukee as the heart of its business.

With less than two months under his belt, Starrs is making bold moves by replacing several top executives (see sidebar). “He continues to meet with dealers, former H-D leadership, H-D employees, and industry experts,” Gatto adds. In addition to dropping in a number of dealerships, Starrs convened a dealer roundtable in early December where 50 dealers met with Artie and his team for face-toface, no -holds barred open discussion. “After having had multiple discussions with Artie, I know he will have as many if not more questions than the dealers.”

Upon close, the transaction is expected to be accretive to Polaris’ annualized adjusted EBITDA by approximately $50 million and to adjusted earnings per share (“EPS”) by approximately $1.00. The close of the transaction is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2026, subject to the satisfaction or waiver of customary closing conditions. Polaris is confident in Indian Motorcycle’s future success under Carolwood ownership and will maintain a small equity position in the Business after the transaction closes. POLARIS THINKS OUTSIDE THE BOX… Spins Off Indian Motorcycle To Private Equity Group

IMExpo marks the first time Indian Motorcycle Booth #973 appears independent from Polaris and the new team is looking forward to meeting with potential dealers in Anaheim. ”America’s First Motorcycle Company” became one of America’s newest motorcycle companies as Indian was spun off from Polaris in a deal announced October 13th, but expected to close in early 2026.

Polaris Inc. had announced its decision to “separate Indian Motorcycle from its portfolio and into a standalone business.” According to the media release, “The Company has entered into a definitive agreement to sell a majority stake in Indian Motorcycle to Carolwood LP, an independent private equity firm founded in 2014 and headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Indian Motorcycle contributed approximately $478 million, or 7.0%, of Polaris’ revenues for the trailing twelve-month period ended June 30, 2025.”

“Polaris and Indian Motorcycle both stand to benefit from this deal, which will enable each business to move faster, deliver industry-leading innovation, and lean further into our respective market strengths,” said Polaris Chief Executive Officer Mike Speetzen. “For Polaris, the sale will further strengthen our focus on the

The rest of the team? “As a part of the deal, approximately 900 employees will transition as a part of the new Indian Motorcycle Company. Indian Motorcycle will retain the majority of its team, including engineers and designers.

Manufacturing facilities in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Monticello, Minnesota, as well as the industrial design and technology center in Burgdorf, Switzerland, will transition to the new standalone motorcycle company.

Indian Motorcycle will continue to provide sales, service, and support for dealers and customers throughout this transition. After the sale is finalized, Indian Motorcycle will operate independently of Polaris and continue selling motorcycles and parts, garments and accessories (PG&A) and providing service through its global Indian Motorcycle dealer network.

Until the transaction closes, Polaris President of On Road and International, Mike Dougherty, will continue to lead the On Road and International businesses, including Indian Motorcycle, at Polaris.

Dougherty, with a distinguished nearly 28year career with Polaris, has announced his intent to retire upon the closing of the transaction.

“During his tenure with Polaris, Mike’s passionate leadership is responsible for countless contributions. As a result of his tenacity and guidance,” notes CEO Mike Speetzen. “Mike shaped our international business into what it is today… He has expanded our business outside of North America, growing revenue from under $100 million in 2000 to more than $1 billion today. IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE, IT’s…

The Rocketeer? Iron Man? The Mandalorian?

The brainchild of NASA engineer Francis Rogallo and his wife Gertrude, this delta-shaped glider was once considered as an alternative method to the parachutebased recovery of space capsules. Initially named the “Paraglider” by NASA, their design featured two flexible half cones which were inflated by wind and proved to be extremely stable. At the time, the plan was to land Gemini capsules on runways instead of water splashdowns.

Nope, none of the above… It was a Hang Glider!

Not quite the same as the wingless heroes above, but damn if it didn’t make me feel like one of them!

However, after sinking over $165 million into the project (~$1.7 B today), it was abandoned by the mid 1960’s for the much simpler (and cheaper) method of parachute recovery over water.

While NASA may have 86’d the paraglider program, the simplicity of the delta wing design had also caught the attention of enthusiasts dreaming of personal flight.

By substituting aluminum tubes for the inflatable spars and keel of the paraglider a rigid and inexpensive frame could be assembled. Initially, wing surfaces were covered with sheets of Mylar fastened with duct tape. This later evolved into pockets sewn into a Dacron sail with grommets and pop rivets to anchor the sail.

By The early 1970’s, the new sport “hang gliding” had emerged. So named because pilots were suspended in a harness hanging from the keel below the sail.

Their popularity spread quickly, and they were even featured in publications like Popular Mechanics.

Early on, there were only a handful of commercial manufacturers such as Eipper Formance (19721980) and Wills Wing (1973-present) being the dominant players. However, hang gliding remained a largely do-it-yourself (DIY) sport, with resources like “The Hang Glider’s Bible” providing the necessary guidance for building your own (shown below). Published in 1977, it’s still available on Amazon today.

I caught the bug in 1974 after attending the “2nd Annual National Soaring and Hang Gliding Festival” held at the Sleeping Bear Dunes near Frankfort, Michigan. It was absolutely mesmerizing! They didn’t just glide down to the beach at the bottom of the 300’ dune, they actually soared above the dune, suspended in the air for minutes at a time!

I was hooked, but since the Hang Gliders Bible had yet to be published, it meant pouring over the enthusiast magazines of the time and a lot of word of mouth. I built 2 kites (which is what they were called), the second of which is shown in the two photos above. The frame was my own construction, but the sail was a custom design that I purchased from Eipper Formance (you can see the logo on the sail).

At the time, we were living in Lafayette Indiana and the closest place to fly was the Warren Dunes on Lake Michigan. So, every weekend, weather permitting, we made the trek north to spend the day flying. Learning meant lots of crashes… really, a lot of crashes! But in the end, I got the “hang” of it. I absolutely loved it!

However, the time frame was B.C. (Before Children), so when they entered our lives, it was time to fold up the kite for a new kind of adventure. But there was one last flight!

Just before Thanksgiving, a couple of my colleagues at Purdue asked to tag along to see what hang gliding was all about. The weather was marginal (cold and windy – it was November after all) and by the time we reached the dunes it had gone completely south. The winds off Lake Michigan were gusting to about 40 mph and that made getting the kite to the top of the dune a struggle.

Normally, launching meant a quick sprint and a dive into the wind, but not this time. My buddies held the kite down with the guide wires on the wing tips and keel, and when they let go it went straight up! Quite the rush at first... but then…

I couldn’t get down! The wind rushing up the face of the dune was like a freight elevator tossing the kite (and me) around like a toy. After what seemed like an eternity, there was a momentary lull, and I face-planted on the beach. One of the guys snapped the photo above… a fitting memoir to the end of my hang gliding adventure!

From his first motorcycles (a Honda S65 and an S90) when he was 16 to 50 years later, Don Musick has never stopped twisting the throttle. November Market Results

November Average Wholesale Price (AWP) trends continued to follow the prior 60-days, with values in core powersport products ticking upward. Notably, on-highway motorcycles in all categories saw price increases versus the leading 90-day average, with Metric Cruisers and Sport bikes seeing the largest increase in near-term pricing. Domestic Cruisers also experienced a mild bump in seasonal AWP, up ~1% versus the prior 90 days, but fell short of year-over-year comps, declining ~5% from November of ’24. In the offroad categories, Side-By-Side pricing saw the sharpest decline of the core powersports segments, falling ~5% versus short-term and YoY comps, while AWP in the smaller volume segments, like ATV and MX, ticked up compared to the leading 90-day average. While RV and Marine pricing continued to slide in November, YoY stabilization is a promising sign that the current trajectory of AWP is aligned with seasonal trends in those segments.

In the powersports industry, November and December are pivotal months when dealers and OEMs work hard to chase holiday dollars, pushing with all their might to move current model-year product to make room for 2026s. Close-outs and sale events abound, as images of rebates and sales incentives dance in dealers’ heads. Despite challenging weather in many parts of the country, dealers are still seeing steady demand, lead volumes, and interest in both new and pre-owned products. Using year-end incentives and promotions to push inventory out the door, focusing on service and parts, as well as restocking fresh price points and products for the holiday season, can all help make up for any seasonal softness. While this has been a challenging year for dealers on many fronts, auction values and pre-owned demand continue to show resilience and will strengthen as we march closer to Spring.

After collaborating on R&D for the past year, Electric Motion and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. showed off their YE-01 Racing Concept at EICMA. “Exactly one year ago, Yamaha Motor announced its investment in Electric Motion, becoming a strategic partner in the development of electric-powered off-road competition motorcycles,” said Yamaha in Italy.

However they were somewhat close-mouthed about tech specs for the eCrosser. “This is a prototype jointly developed by the engineers of Electric Motion and Yamaha Motor Japan.

This motorcycle embodies the perfect synergy between Yamaha’s technological expertise and Electric Motion’s know-how in high-performance electric powertrains.”

ZERO SHIFTING GEARS

ZERO ON THE MOVE?

Citing factors like “improved collaboration with key partners worldwide, Zero is shifting its headquarters from Scotts Valley, CA to Amsterdam. “The European market is the primary driver of Zero’s growth,” claimed the announcement just before EICMA. Noting that its new headquarters in The Netherlands “brings together global teams in a single, central hub at the heart of Zero’s fastest-growing EV market.”

Europe has become Zero’s most important growth engine.

Zero will continue to have an R&D hub presence in the U.S.,but non-engineering initiatives and departments will transfer to the new global headquarters. Zero adds its U.S. location will still support a team working on powertrains and next-generation models, maintaining the company’s technological roots in the U.S. as leadership and global operations move overseas. Production of its electric motorcycles is largely based in the Philippines already.

Show me the money. Zero started with a $68 million investment from private equity firm Invus. In 2022, this was supplemented by $107 million in financial support from Polaris and Hero MotoCorp from India. By the end of 2024, Zero was seeking another $120 million . Now, another $50 million in new investment has been added to finance the move.

“Zero has been leading the way in electric motorcycles for nearly two decades,” proclaimed Sam Paschel, CEO of Zero Motorcycles. “With Europe setting the pace for EV adoption, relocating key headquarters functions to the Netherlands strengthens our global operations and allows us to respond more quickly to customer needs. Zero Motorcycles has announced a major leadership transition. Industry veteran Pierre-Martin Bos has been appointed as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Sam Paschel, who steps into a “senior advisory” role on Zero’s board after eight transformative years at the helm.

Bos joins Zero with more than two decades of international experience in the automotive industry. Before his appointment, he served as Director of Purpose Built Vehicles at Kia Europe, and previously held senior roles at Stellantis, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Kia, overseeing strategic growth and operational excellence across Europe, Africa and Asia.

We are grateful for the continued support of our riders, vendors, and retail partners as we work through this moment and toward what comes next. “However back in November Rad Power also told state officials that it would possibly lay off 64 employees in January and could shut down if additional funding is not secured.

“American Landmaster is about to soar to new levels with Whisper Carts’ resources behind it,” Hatley adds. “Our shared commitment to American-made quality and innovation will enhance Landmaster’s rugged UTVs, delivering unmatched performance and value. This is an advancement that will redefine what dealers and customers expect from the brand.”

Hidden by the holidays, Rad Power Bikes quietly filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early December. This drastic step came in advance of completing a sale of the company and less than a month after it said it could not afford a recall on some of its older lithium-ion batteries that the Consumer Product Safety Commission deemed unsafe.

How the mighty have fallen: As recently as October 2021 Rad was proclaimed “North America’s largest ebike maker” and announced a $154 million financing round that brought its total investment amount to $329 million since its inception in 2007. Since then the brand has had several personal liability lawsuits, layoffs, and management changes.

According to the Chapter 11 filings with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington, Rad Power Bikes listed estimated assets at $32.1 million and estimated liabilities at $72.8 million. Its inventory of e-bikes, spare parts, and accessories is listed at $14,226,874.73. Top unsecured claims include: U.S. Customs and Border Protection for tariffs ($8,363,749), Bangkok Cycle Industrial Co. Ltd. ($5,353,674), Jinhua Vision Industry Co., Ltd. ($1,414,356), and Fuji-TA Fushida Group Area ($1,223,881) for trade; Commerce Insurance ($1,138,000) and Lisa Gore ($3,200,000) for subrogation; Steve Jay ($1 million) and Susan Luck ($1 million) for damages.

Equity holders are founder Mike Radenbaugh (41.3%), VCVC V LLC (6.6%), Durable Capital Master Fund LP (5.8%), along with other minority holders (46.3%).

The acquisition will close in the coming weeks, subject to regulatory approvals. Whisper is committed to a seamless transition, supporting Indiana employees with job placement and relocation opportunities. Financial terms were not disclosed.

SUPER73 co-founder Michael Cannavo says he is happy to step back into his CMO role! “When the business was in its darkest time last year, I reluctantly stepped away from marketing and into the role of interim Co-CEO with my decade-long partner, Aaron P. 4 - Forest Service Chief, Tom Shultz, creates a new “Trail Czar” position in the agency to promote the designation of roads, trails, and areas for OHV and other outdoor recreation activities. That new Czar will spend a lot of time in the field meeting with National Forests that already have a high quality trail recreation program and, most importantly, those Forests that do not, to encourage them to get on the trail recreation train.

OHV RECREATION PREDICTIONS FOR 2026

e knows all... and tells some! The Great Donstradamus has emerged from his cabin deep in an oak savanna in a secret location in the Pacific Northwest to present his OHV and resource management predictions for 2026.

Donstradamus offers insights into key topics of the day such as a new “Trail Czar”, Moto Moms, OHV Safety, Presidential recognition, Health Food, Wildfires, hybrid or all electric OHV and other issues that affect the outdoor recreation community. His predictions in ascending order for 2026 are: 10 - A statewide alliance of CA OHV groups introduce legislation to create an online E-Course OHV Safety Program to help educate new users of motorized vehicles about trail ethics, wearing safety gear, regulations, different land agencies, law enforcement, and conservation practices related to managed OHV recreation.

9 - There will be at least one participant ride a hybrid or allelectric motorcycle in the famous Oakland Motorcycle Club’s Annual SheetIron Dual Sport/ADV Ride. This is the largest DS/ ADV coastal range-based DS/ADV event on the West Coast.

This event will test the bike’s range and reliability.

8 - Health experts and nutritionists within the outdoor recreation community rediscover a potent high protein diet to be used by trail enthusiasts who want to build/repair muscle, increase mental acuity, and promote a strong gut.

This health program consists largely of steaks and other cuts of meat from wagyu or Angus beef raised on family-owned cattle ranches. These steaks and other cuts will be offered in select stores or can be purchased online.

7 - DOGE effort helps refocus Forest Service leadership to redirect fiscal and other resources out to local units to empower District Rangers and Forest Supervisors to increase the pace and scale of on-the-ground projects that benefit natural, cultural, and recreation programs.

3 - CA State Parks reverses course on creating and maintaining artificial man-made vegetative islands that that can be used by skunks, raccoons, and foxes to more easily access snowy plover nesting grounds near the beach at Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area and adopt the mechanical removal of man-made vegetation structures used at the OR Dunes National Recreation Area so as to inhibit easy access by predators to the plover nesting sites. This change in management direction could restore a significant amount of acres closed over the last 15 years by the aforementioned mitigation measures.

2 - After significant push-back against the Coyote Creek Solar Project from OHV interests, conservation groups, and Indian Tribes, the Solar Industry commits to robust stakeholder engagement during pre-scoping and formal scoping periods to avoid proposing solar projects that directly impact popular OHV recreation areas such as the CA State Parks Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area.

1 - National and regional motorized and non-motorized outdoor recreation groups will continue to collaborate and find common ground on a growing number of access challenges realizing there is strength in numbers. Those collaborative efforts take on even more importance as they address new problems and find solutions.

FIRST CONTACT! Training Chatbots To Win More Sales

he motorcycle buying journey has changed in a way many dealerships are only beginning to recognize.

The first interaction is no longer a walk through the showroom or a phone call to the sales desk. More often, it begins with a chatbot conversation — happening late at night, after a ride, during a lunch break at work, or while a customer is comparing models across multiple dealership websites.

For many motorcycle dealerships, that first digital interaction is being wasted. Chatbots answer basic questions, request contact information and then end the conversation without moving the sale forward!

The intent is there, but the execution falls short. The dealerships seeing measurable gains from chat are doing something different. They are training their chatbots to behave less like automated forms and act more like knowledgeable sales assistants.

When chatbots are trained correctly, they improve firstcontact conversion rates, generate better-qualified leads, and shorten the time between interest and purchase. In a market where margins are tight, seasons are short, and competition is intense, that difference matters.

Speed still matters, but speed alone does not convert. A fast response that lacks substance does little to inspire confidence. However, a response that demonstrates understanding, relevance and expertise creates trust.

That trust is what turns curiosity into commitment.

Understanding The Modern Motorcycle Buyer Motorcycle buyers do not shop the same way as conventional customers. The decision to purchase a motorcycle is personal. Riders care deeply about performance, fit, riding style, brand reputation and longterm ownership experience. Many arrive at a dealership’s website after weeks — or months — of research, already comparing models, trims, displacement and use cases.

This is where many dealership chatbots fail. When a rider asks a detailed question and receives a vague or generic response, trust is lost immediately. Riders expect the same level of knowledge they would receive from an experienced salesperson or seasoned service technician. If the chatbot cannot speak confidently about the differences between models, explain why one bike might suit a particular riding style better than another, or clarify real-world ownership considerations, the conversation ends. Abruptly.

Training a chatbot to convert starts with understanding how riders think and how they make decisions. A properly trained chatbot understands the dealership’s inventory, recognizes which models are comparable, and can suggest alternatives when a specific bike is unavailable. It communicates in the dealership’s voice, whether that tone emphasizes performance, adventure, value or premium craftsmanship.

Chatbots As Sales Assets, Not Just Tools Well-trained chatbots are not designed to replace motorcycle sales professionals. They are designed to make them more effective. By capturing intent, preserving conversation context and pre-qualifying buyers, chatbots allow sales teams to step into conversations already knowing what the rider is looking for.

This eliminates repetitive questioning and allows sales staff to focus on building rapport and closing deals.

The result is a smoother handoff, a more confident customer, and higher productivity inside the dealership.

Just as importantly, it respects the rider’s intelligence.

Motorcycle buyers can quickly sense when they are being pushed toward a form instead of being helped.

A trained chatbot builds credibility first, which is the foundation for conversion later.

From Conversation To Conversion The most effective motorcycle sales conversations are driven by the right questions at the right time. Skilled sales professionals know how to guide a rider through the decision-making process without making it feel transactional. A trained chatbot mirrors this behavior.

Instead of asking generic questions that stall the conversation, it asks purposeful questions that help narrow options and clarify intent. It helps riders think through what kind of riding they plan to do, how often they ride, what features matter most to them, and what their timeline looks like. These questions feel helpful rather than intrusive because they are directly tied to the rider’s goals.

At the same time, a trained chatbot can address common objections early. Price concerns, availability questions, financing uncertainty and timing hesitation are all common reasons riders pause. When these concerns go unanswered, they often become reasons to disengage entirely. A trained chatbot explains value rather than simply quoting numbers. It clarifies how promotions or financing programs work. It sets realistic expectations about availability and next steps.

By the time a human salesperson enters the conversation, many of the barriers have already been lowered. The rider is informed, confident, and ready to engage. This not only improves close rates but also creates a better experience for both the customer and the sales team.

There is also a larger competitive reality motorcycle dealerships must face. Riders are no longer relying solely on dealership websites for answers. They are increasingly asking AI-powered systems and chat-based tools which bikes to buy, which dealerships to trust, and where to get the best experience. If a dealership’s own chatbot cannot confidently answer key buying questions, those answers will come from somewhere else.

Training chatbots is no longer just about improving onsite engagement. It is about protecting the dealership’s brand and influence at the moment of decision.

Chatbots Are Here To Stay Chatbots are now a permanent part of the motorcycle sales funnel. When left untrained, they quietly cost opportunities and erode trust. When trained correctly, they become powerful conversion assets.

Motorcycle dealerships that invest in chatbot training see higher first-contact conversion rates, betterqualified leads, shorter sales cycles and stronger customer confidence. The difference is not traffic volume, advertising spend, or brand size. It is how effectively the first conversation is handled.

The dealerships that win tomorrow are not simply getting more riders to their website. They are converting more of the conversations they already have — starting at the point of first contact.

Returning to its roots at Glen Helen December 6, 2025 helped and the tremendous level of participation — the ride with Kurt lap saw bikes filling the entire track end-to-end — prove that Kurt’s legacy lives on. Glen Helen’s iconic track was a perfect backdrop to honor the life and legacy of legendary racer Kurt Caselli.

elieving it is better to give than to receive, Yamaha celebrated the holidays by giving back to the offroad community. In addition to announcing the recipients of its Outdoor Access Initiative (Yamaha OAI) third quarter 2025 grants — awarding more than $155,000 to eight organizations across eight states — they helped SoCal landmark Perris Raceway and even treated the moto media to a night ride at the iconic MX track during the Xmas break. Bringing cheer is nothing new to Yamaha, nor is it limited to once a year. In fact, in its 18-year history, the OAI program has supported over 570 projects across 48 states, totaling more than $8,000,000 in grants awarded.

Since 2008, Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative has supported responsible access to our nation’s public lands for outdoor enthusiasts. With more than $8 million contributed to over 550 projects across the country, Yamaha has directly and indirectly supported thousands of miles of motorized recreation trails, maintained and rehabilitated riding and hunting areas, improved staging areas, supplied organizations with essential OHV safety education, built bridges over fish-bearing streams, helped children learn to ride bicycles, and partnered with

local outdoor enthusiast communities across the country to improve access to public lands. However, what is new is the addition of motocross-specific closed courses like Perris (see sidebar).

Each quarter, Yamaha accepts applications from nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations, including OHV riding and cycling clubs and associations, national, state, and local public land-use agencies, outdoor enthusiast associations, and land conservation groups with an interest in protecting, improving, expanding, and/or maintaining access for safe, responsible and sustainable public use.

This quarter’s funding emphasizes critical infrastructure improvements, OHV rider safety, and environmental stewardship, along with two grants focused on water quality protection funded through a partnership with the Yamaha Rightwaters program. More importantly OAI awards are routed local dealers and marinas to have the maximum impact on the local outdoor communities.

“These latest grant recipients exemplify the OHV community’s commitment to balancing recreation with responsible land stewardship,” notes Steve Nessl, Yamaha

Motorsports marketing director. “By partnering with Yamaha Rightwaters on two water-focused projects, we’re demonstrating how Yamaha’s leadership extends beyond trail access to encompass comprehensive environmental protection. These investments in infrastructure, safety education, and habitat restoration ensure sustainable outdoor recreation for generations to come.”

“These pressures have already forced several tracks to close, leaving riders with fewer and fewer places to ride.”

Many public lands restrict motocross bikes on public trails, placing a premium on access to private tracks for enthusiasts.

“With fewer tracks available, eager riders can overwhelm the remaining tracks,” he explains. “This can lead to overuse of facilities, increasing maintenance costs, and potentially posing safety risks. These realities, plus rising operational expenses, present very real challenges to access for moto enthusiasts. After witnessing this scenario repeat itself across Southern California, Yamaha took the initiative to find ways to disrupt this troubling cycle, threatening access for our industry.”

Leveraging the leadership position held by Yamaha OAI, a broader definition of access was explored to expand the program’s scope beyond the public lands hosting trails and riding areas to consider track facilities. As Yamaha OAI prioritizes projects that support customers in the environments where they use Yamaha products, evolving the program to include track support made sense.

Perris Raceway Grant Opportunity: Last year, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative received an application from Perris Raceway to help preserve the

longest-operating motocross track west of the Mississippi, and a landmark of the Southern California Motocross industry. For generations, it has provided a competitive, family-friendly, and accessible place for riders to practice, race, build community, and share their love for the sport of motocross.

The grant provides Perris Raceway with critical funds to support facility and maintenance projects to improve safety and security for riders and staff, including updated perimeter fencing, structural repairs, signage and pole pads. By supporting improvements to the track’s safety and security, this grant also mitigates risks that historically challenged the track’s viability.

All grant applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation from a local Yamaha Dealer. Former Yamaha motocross champion and owner of Langston Motorsports, Grant Langston, submitted an enthusiastic letter expressing the importance of Perris Raceway’s role in the local community and its impact on the past and future of SoCal motocross.

This event highlights the tangible improvements Perris Raceway has made with its OAI grant award and highlights the important role of motocross tracks, both here in Southern California and throughout the United States, in maintaining safe and responsible access for motocross enthusiasts.

Justin’s racing, and then on building Coffman Outdoors, (a mower and tractor dealership that’s about to become much more!). So he has not done any serious racing in at least as long as me.

Sure, I could harp on the, “what were we thinking,” aspect of this, but what’s the point? We’re in it now; and for better or worse, we’re going racing again! Maybe...

This first month has not been without challenges. There’s a whole documentary series, (find it linked at our website: 2ogracing.com), that is following the journey of Mark and I through this craziness. There is also an official DBA for 2OG is Two Old Guys, by the way… a little company that we set up to handle all of this insanity. Two Old Guys Racing, LLC. Cool name, eh?

Anyway, not only are we racing the Missouri State Motocross Championship Series, but to meet Mark’s desires, we’re also going to try to qualify for the MXSportsMonster Energy AMA Amateur Motocross National Championship, (we can agree to just call it “Loretta Lynn’s,” like we always have, right?), in the one class that ain’t decidedly “amateur.” Go to MXSports’ site for Loretta Lynn’s and look up the previous year’s results for this class. You’ll see what I mean.

IF NOT NOW, WHEN? A Month In

ell, it’s been a month since my buddy Mark Coffman and I decided to return to the sport of our youth… motocross! It also appears we have reached the point of no return with a column in Dealernews under our belts and tickets booked for AIMExpo in Anaheim. Time flies when the clock is ticking...

Speaking of old Father Time, I’m 54 and Mark is 60, (he’ll be crossing the threshold to 61 in March), and I haven’t raced since last competing in the Missouri State Series in 2001. Well, there was that 2005 Pit Bike Race in Oklahoma, where I got to race in the “Clydesdale Class,” (a class exclusive to us big guys), but I can’t count that. Or can I? While Mark raced that same Pit Bike race with me and Jimmy Gaddis, (yep, 125W Supercross Champ and 2-time Arenacross Champ… THAT Jimmy Gaddis) we raced as a ragtag, makeshift “team” in the loosest possible terms.

Mark has managed to hit an Arenacross and sneak in a few motos here and there in the last 3 decades, but his efforts had been focused on supporting his son

So, in for a dime, in for a dollar, why not? This just means that, not only do we have to become as fast as we were at 18, we’ve got to be faster than we’ve ever been. In better shape than we’ve ever been. And, we have to do it all with GoPros strapped to us, tripod mounted cameras aimed at us and drones chasing our every move. Believe me, it’s a challenge. I can’t just go to my gym and workout… I now have to set up stuff and think about camera angles and lighting and, oh, did I put all of the batteries in chargers last night?

Until now, the hardest thing I’ve had to do before throwing a leg over my bike was wrestle my gear on! (And believe me, I was getting very winded from that!)

Now, I’ve got to mount cameras to my helmet, my chest and my front fender. I have to set up tripod cameras along the track, then mount a beacon on my handlebars for the drone to follow… and that’s “if” the batteries are charged! Batteries are quickly becoming the bane of my existence. Both the camera batteries and my own … I’m not finding the energy of my youth just yet!

Of course, there’s the whole, getting into shape aspect of this venture.

Jogging isn’t my friend right now. I’m still too heavy and my knees aren’t playing well. In fact, if you see me run by, you’d better run too. It means that there’s something bigger than I am chasing me and I obviously felt that shooting it wouldn’t stop it!

Eating right is another challenge. I’ll be painfully honest here, I’m failing at this. Failing to the point that I’ve begun calling McDonald’s Cheeseburgers “salads” when Mark asks what I ate for lunch! I know. I’m ashamed. I like greasy, nasty food and I have to stop. For a guy named

“Will,” I have little-to-no willpower, which is weird.

And, of course, the weather hasn’t been favorable. We’ve got a layout in mind for a huge outdoor practice track, to which I’m devoting 37 acres of my farm. But, in typical Missouri fashion, we’ve gone from drought to warm rain, to snow, to a week of blistering cold, and now — as I write this two days before Christmas — it’s sunny and nearly 70 degrees. Not good track-building weather.

But we’re plugging away, nonetheless. And to you, the person reading this and watching the documentary and either needing inspiration to get back on a bike yourself, or simply wanting the chance to live vicariously through a couple of aging underdogs, I make you this promise…

I will find that willpower and I will get my fat butt running for reasons other than survival. I’ll get the track built and I’ll consistently get on the bike and practice. And I’ll make sure that I charge batteries every night, (all 64 of them!), so that there’ll be footage of everything for you to marvel at, be inspired by, or, (most likely), make fun of!

Because when it boils down to it, we’re all in this thing together. We’re a team and there’s no way I want to be the weak link! Oh yeah, there is the whole making Mark’s dealership a powersports store... but you already know how hard that is if you are reading Dealernews!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to eat a salad.

VALE NORM MCDONALD

T

he American Motorcyclist Association offers its sincere condolences to the family and friends of AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Norm McDonald, who passed away on Sept. 25 at 93 years old. McDonald’s impact on motorcycling was vast, as he enjoyed success as a racer, tuner and businessman within the industry.

Despite growing up with a love for speed, McDonald’s parents would not allow him to own a motorcycle — so he filled that void with hot rods and drag racing until he finally purchased a bike when he turned 17. After a brief stint in the Navy from 1952-’55, McDonald’s love for motorcycling only grew, and he purchased his second bike and began his racing career shortly after.

In 1957, McDonald, along with fellow AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Ken Johnson, opened K&N Motorcycles in Loma Linda, Calif., as a service shop, with Johnson working during the days and McDonald working at night. The shop would also help springboard the future of another Hall of Famer, Malcolm Smith, who started working there at 17 years old.

Eight years after opening K&N Motorcycles, McDonald and Johnson formed K&N Engineering, where they developed handlebars, fenders, fork braces and the revolutionary K&N Air Filter, which was used across

virtually every form of motorcycle racing. During this time, McDonald sponsored a wide range of racers, including his sons Phil and Sam, grandson Tyler, and son-in-law Ted Boody, among others.

McDonald relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma., in 1971, and split the K&N business with Johnson, focusing solely on the dealership side of things. Soon after, McDonald opened dealerships in Tulsa and Wichita, Kansas.

McDonald was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2013.

Norm congratulated me and Floyd after the race and now we had some new friends at Ascot. As it turned out, Freddie Edwards and I, and also John Hateley, would battle for Novice class wins every Friday night all that year with each of us winning about 1/3rd of the Novice Mains. In the final Ascot season points, Freddie edged me out and they did take top Ascot Novice points, just like Mashburn had done the year before. The Emde and McDonald families became very close friends forever after and I always enjoyed seeing Norm and his dear wife Lucy, and their boys who were all racing or involved running the K&N dealership after they moved to Oklahoma.

In 2017, the Trailblazers honored Norm with an induction to our Hall of Fame. Here is a copy of the story we ran in the event program. As you will read, he had an amazing motorcycling life. Godspeed old friend: 2017 Trailblazers Hall of Fame Inductee Norm McDonald

A

s he does too often these days, Father Time paid us a visit on Thursday to take another longtime friend of mine and many in the motorcycle sport and industry. Norm McDonald passed away at age 93.

My relationship with Norm (the “N” in K&N) and his business partner Ken Johnson (the “K”) began in 1969 on the first night of my professional racing career at Ascot Park.

I didn’t really know anybody yet, but I was there with my father Floyd and the shiny new Suzuki X-6 flat tracker in a Sonic Weld frame that he built for me to race in the Novice class. Norm and Ken were there with a Yamaha TD1-powered race bike and I’d say they were the prerace favorite with #101R Freddie Edwards as their rider.

Yamaha had the top Novice the year before with Keith Mashburn on the 101R Yamaha and it seemed K&N planned to continue that success.

We had a little surprise for them that night after getting through a couple of rounds of Heat races. I was finally getting the hang of riding that speedy X-6 with no brakes and was running third in the Main event behind Edwards and a rider named Rick Talbot on a Harley Sprint. They were having a good battle between themselves, but on the last lap they left me some room to get by as we went down the back stretch and I passed them both and went on take the opening night victory.

Norm McDonald was born on October 20, 1932 in San Bernardino, California. Even as a youngster, Norm loved motorcycles and always wanted one, but his parents wouldn’t allow it. So Norm mowed lawns, sold scrap metal and saved his money. He had enough to buy his first motorcycle when he was 17, but kept it hidden at a friend’s house. Needless to say, Norm was hooked on motorcycles from then onward.

After graduating from high school, Norm served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955. When he returned, he married Louise (Lucy) West, and started racing motorcycles and raising a family. He earned a living for his growing family as a surveyor for San Bernardino County.

He began racing in 1956 at De Anza Raceway and was soon riding every event he could in southern California from Ascot to Perris and Acton to Bakersfield. He drag raced at Fontana Raceway and Road Raced at Riverside and Las Vegas. He rode TT’s and desert races as well as major off-road events like B-to-V, Big Bear and the Tecate Enduro. He loved everything about the sport from racing to building the bikes.

In 1957 Norm met Ken Johnson and together they opened their first motorcycle shop, K&N Motorcycles in Loma Linda, California. The first K&N was primarily a service shop, with Ken working days and Norm (who kept his job as a surveyor during the day) working nights.

“We opened with $200 and three used motorcycles,” Norm remembers. “We took on Indian, which was Royal Enfield at the time, and in 1958, we took on Yamaha.”

K&N was only the fourth dealer in the USA to be signed as a Yamaha dealership and is now the longest running Yamaha franchise in the United States. Through the years Norm owned other franchises including BSA, CZ, Hodaka, Tohatsu, Marusho, Greeves and Harley Davidson.

As shop owners, Ken and Norm also happened to give a job to a 17-year-old kid who would make a name for himself in motorcycling: Malcolm Smith. “I knew him since he was a kid,” Ken says. “We watched him ride in the fields, and were impressed, and when we opened up the shop, I asked if he wanted to work for me.” Malcolm was one of the first of hundreds of riders who would eventually be sponsored by K&N. In 1965, Ken and Norm formed K&N Engineering, focusing on a line of handlebars, fenders and fork braces. The next year, the K&N Air Filter was introduced and within five years the revolutionary filters could be found in virtually every form of racing.

Norm loved to race and he also loved to help other racers. Besides his sons: Phil McDonald (1973 Daytona 100-mile Junior Champion and Top Junior in the nation); Sam McDonald (1982 250cc National Champion and 1984 second-place Superbike Championship); son-inlaw, Ted Boody and grandson Tyler McDonald, Norm sponsored hundreds of others with more than 30 of them going on to compete on the national level. For decades, the sight of the K&N log on a racer’s leathers meant that rider was a contender and potential champion.

By 1971, Norm decided to relocate. Ken opted to keep K&N Engineering, and Norm kept the dealership side of things and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, opening up dealerships in Tulsa and Wichita, Kansas. ‘That was

the best decision I ever made,’ Norm says. ‘I’ve always loved motorcycles and motorcycle people. I know the air cleaner thing is a multi-million business today, but if you’re not happy with what you’re doing, why do it?

Motorcycling is not a get-rich thing, but it’s made a living for all our families and kept us together.’

Now in his 80’s, Norm is far from retired and stays active in the industry. Along with wife Lucy he started the Motorcyclists against Cancer (MAC) Rally which has raised over $300,000 for cancer research. He also runs an MSF certified training school, promotes local street rides as well as the Oklahoma Gold Rush, the state’s premier off-road racing event.

The Cost Of “Visibility” For years, dealers were told that visibility meant paying more, more listings, more packages, more upgrades.

In many cases, dealer-funded marketplaces became dependent on search dominance rather than dealer success. Dealers paid into the platform, the platform overpaid Google for SEO dominance, and when traffic came back, dealers paid again to be seen.

It wasn’t marketing. It was circular billing. And the smaller the business, the harder it hit.

When The Playing Field Tilts...

As large dealer groups grew, small and independent shops quietly disappeared. Not because they lacked quality or passion but because the system rewarded size over substance. When visibility is tied to spending power, pricing loses integrity and consumers lose trust.

A healthy industry depends on balance. When dealers keep more of their profits, consumers benefit from fair pricing, better service, and long-term relationships, the kind that bring people back.

I ran a custom motorcycle shop with sales, service, repair and full custom builds. I paid the invoices. I managed the staff. I lived with the pressure of slow months and the constant strain of keeping passion alive while costs continued to climb.

There were many sleepless nights. I maxed out credit cards to make sure my team was paid, the rent was covered, and the lights stayed on. I worried about the mortgage. I worried about whether my son could play sports or take part in activities that required money to belong. I missed vacations with my wife. I passed on special moments and getaways, always afraid of not being present or missing a financial opportunity that could keep my small business afloat.

Cycles Worldwide didn’t start as an idea. It started as a realization!

Costs rise while control disappears... We’ve seen this pattern before. When power concentrates, independence fades. I didn’t want to watch the powersports industry head down the same road.

My business partner, Ben Bailey, serves as CTO and leads the technical execution that brings Cycles Worldwide to life. His ability to translate vision into a scalable, functional platform is foundational to everything we’re building.

The vision behind it all came from decades spent inside the industry, watching passionate, well-run businesses struggle under systems stacked against them from the start.

A Personal Decision I walked away from a high six-figure career in 2001 to start a small business called Nice Ride Inc., long before Cycles Worldwide ever existed. I haven’t made that

kind of money since... and that’s okay. Some things are bigger than income. Motorcycles gave me freedom.

This industry gave me purpose and a reason to smile every day when I opened the doors to my shop.

Cycles Worldwide is the evolution of that journey, my way of giving something back, not to one business, but to the entire powersports industry.

Where This Is Headed In the next two years, I believe most powersports businesses will be operating in one place, Cycles Worldwide.
