Heading off on a relaxing pool holiday? Lucky you!
If you’re not used to having a pool at home, it’s easy to forget about the extra safety steps needed.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with this simple holiday pool checklist to keep everyone happy and safe poolside.
1
Check the pool area
• Is the fence at least 1.2 metres high with no gaps that little ones can squeeze through?
• Does the gate self-close and latch securely from any angle?
• Can you lock the pool gate while not in use, just to be extra safe?
• Are there any objects near the fence that can be climbed on (chairs, toys, pot plants etc.)? If so, move them away.
• Remove pool toys after use and tidy up any trip hazards or clutter.
• Never prop the gate open.
2
Supervise like a pro
• Always be within arm’s reach of kids – fast action saves lives.
• Take turns being the designated ‘pool watcher’ with other adults.
3
Set clear pool rules with the kids
• No running.
• No diving unless it’s a designated diving pool.
• Always ask an adult before entering the pool.
• Set pool times so they know when it’s safe to swim.
4
Safety first
• Locate the first aid kit and CPR chart.
• Have life vests for little ones or less confident swimmers.
• Brush up on your first aid skills, especially CPR.
• Know the national emergency number to call – 000.

5
Keep it clean
• Make sure the pool water looks clear and clean.
• If it smells too strongly of chemicals, notify the property managerit might not be safe for swimming.

Bonus happy holiday tips
• Slip, slop, slap! Sunscreen is a must, and don’t forget to reapply.
• Create some shade around the pool and stay hydrated with cool water on hand.
• Pack a ‘pool bag’ with all the essentials (sunscreen, towels, water bottles, snacks) so that you don’t have to leave the pool area once the kids are in the water.
Safe swimming!
