West on hwy 50 to hwy 58. turn south on 58 (which will curve back to the west) go thru Holden. Sale barn will be on south side of hwy 58 prior to getting to Kingsville.

Coming from the west or Kansas City: The best way to come would be to take hwy 50 to hwy W south to Kingsville - turn east on 58 and sale barn will be on south side of hwy outside of town.

Coming from the south: Take hwy 2 east at Harrisonville. Turn north on hwy T. turn east on hwy 58 and sale barn will be on south side of hwy east of town.

Welcome to the “Best of Brandywine Farms” and the 14th annual Seedstock Plus Showcase Sale. The cattle offered on this day will represent some of the best genetics available in our breed. If you are a new or existing breeder, I would strongly encourage you to participate in this unique sale offering. The females selling have eye appeal, excellent EPD profiles and the ability to make money in the fast paced cattle business.

Let me speak first about the “Best of Brandywine Farms” offering. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Tom Scarponcini has been breeding Gelbvieh cattle for nearly 30 years. The emphasis on carcass quality and tenderness is unmatched in the breed. The top 35 pairs from this breeding program represent best of breed. They are very good uddered, super quiet dispositioned, functional cattle that have excellent data. These females sell under the AGA terms and conditions for a Dispersal Sale.

The Seedstock Plus Showcase Sale offering represents the best from the participating breeders of Seedstock Plus. These are elite females that have been ‘cherry picked’ for this sale. All of these females will have Genomic-Enhanced EPDs, have been sire verified, defect tested as needed and coat and polled tested. A Note About the Catalog:

In the Showcase Sale portion of the catalog, every female has been DNA tested for a low-density panel to have Genomic Enhanced EPDs. If they don’t have the ‘AGA GE-EPDs’ logo on the right side of the pedigree, their DNA tests are not finished and will be available on a supplement sheet. To help you ascertain the EPD comparison within breed, we have included a line with the percentile ranking within breed per EPD. The numbers correspond directly to the EPD above them.

In the Brandywine Farms portion of the catalog, most of the females have GE-EPDs or are pending results however, none of the calves were tested. A supplement sheet will be posted at the www.seedstockplus.com website as soon as more data becomes available. Sandy Knoll Farm has been raising Gelbvieh cattle since 1982. The cattle business and the Gelbvieh breed have transitioned over 37 years, as has Sandy Knoll with the inclusion of feedlot & carcass data, DNA genomics and RFI testing. We began with a base herd of red, horned Fullbloods & Purebreds. Currently, the herd consists of polled, black & red Balancers & Purebreds as well as a group of Fullbloods.

Sandy Knoll Farm is offering 1 PICK from our 2018 natural born spring bred heifers, which consists of 85 head. They are about 65%/35% black to red in color. 55% Balancers and 45% are Purebreds. Dear Friends, Welcome to the Best of Brandywine Sale.

This sale marks the end of an adventure with Gelbvieh cattle that began thirty years ago with the release of the USDA Meat Animal Research Center’s (MARC) data comparing breeds of beef cattle from around the world. Gelbvieh excelled in fertility, red meat yield, milk production, growth, docility, and reproductive efficiency as measured by pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed. Our breeding program over the years has never lost sight of these core competencies. We’ve avoided fads. We’ve avoided extremes. We’ve chosen genetics with balanced EPDs for economically relevant traits, convenience traits, and structural soundness. This sale offering reflects the very best of what we’ve been able to accomplish in pursuit of these objectives.

Having reached a comfort level with the achievement of these objectives several years ago, we began focusing on carcass traits and feed efficiency (RFI) as well. If we are in the cattle business, we are, after all, in the food business. Our end-product is not a calf, but a meal on our customer’s plate. You will see EPDs, tenderness scores, and references to marbling throughout the footnotes that reflect the results of that selection pressure. Don’t underestimate the importance these traits will have in the years to come.

The health of the herd is excellent, thanks in part to a rigorous vaccination program throughout their lives.

These cows have recently been boostered for viral respiratory diseases (with fetal protection) and for Clostridial diseases. They’ve been drenched for worms. Calves have received a complete preconditioning regimen, boostered and dewormed.

The cattle have been raised in a forage-based program of Management Intensive Grazing. The frequent, quiet, stress-free, moving of groups and close human contact are evident in their calm dispositions. Bad temperaments have never been tolerated.

In this sale offering, you will find some older cows who are Dams of Merit, mothers of herd bulls working here and in other herds, matriarchs of cow families here and in other herds. You will find younger cows who are daughters of Dams of Merit, too young yet to reach that designation themselves. Their calves are all potential herd sires or replacement heifers from diverse sire lines. We’ve tried to offer an assortment of Purebreds, Balancers, Reds and Blacks so there is something for everyone.

Back home I’ve turned over the reins of Brandywine Farms to the capable hands of Carter Lee. The breeding program will continue but my involvement will be strictly advisory. There comes a time in our lives when factors beyond our control dictate a change of lifestyle. To me that means it’s time for the next adventure, whatever that may be.

Terms: Terms of the sale are cash or personal check unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with the seller previous to the sale.

Bidding: All animals sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes or challenges regarding bids shall be settled by the auctioneer and his decision shall be final. Mailed or telephoned bids will be handled with the strictest confidence.

Registrations & Transfers: Each animal which is offered and sold has a certificate of registry available at the time of sale. The seller is responsible for the proper transfer of the certificate to the purchaser including full payment of transfer fees.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the property of and therefore is also the risk of the purchaser as soon as it is sold.

Announcements: Any errors or changes in information contained in the catalog will be announced from the auction block. Such announcements shall take precedence over information contained herein.

Rights and Obligations: The above terms and conditions of sale constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding to both. Animals resold following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the parties connected thereto are not covered by the above terms and conditions of this sale. Neither the host farm, auctioneers, nor any other person connected with the management or conduct of this sale assumes any liability, legal or otherwise, except as set forth above.

DEFINITIONS AND GUARANTEES HORNED: An animal with a horn growth affixed to the skull that has or has not been removed.

POLLED/SCURRED: An animal with rudimentary horn growth that will not develop into a horn. The rudimentary horn growth may or may not become affixed to the skull at an older age.

POLLED: An animal with absence of horn growth (An animal can have scurs and still be genetically polled) DOUBLE POLLED: An animal whose sire and dam are both polled or scurred, this gives this animal the possibility of being homozygous polled for the polled trait but it is not yet proven so.

HOMOZYGOUS POLLED: An animal who carries two polled genes, and will produce polled or polled/scurred offspring with every mating.

DILUTER GENE: A gene carried by some Gelbvieh cattle that affects the degree of red color in the hair coat. Bulls carrying this gene can produce gray calves when mated to black cows or cream colored calves when mated to each other.

DILUTER FREE: All Red Angus are free of the diluter gene as are all red Gelbvieh cattle resulting from a double black mating. Red Gelbviehs can also be proven diluter-free by mating to black cows and producing all red or black offspring DOUBLE BLACK: An animal whose sire and dam are both black, which give the animal the possibility of being homozygous for the black trait but its not yet proven so.

HOMOZYGOUS BLACK: An animal who carries two black genes and has been proven by mating or genetically tested to produce black or black factor (gray when mated with diluter-based genetics) calves with every mating.
