15th Annual Production Sale

Saturday, February 22, 2025 2:00 pm (CT) at the farm, Clearbrook, Minnesota

Welcome to Larson’s Lost River Livestock 14th Annual Production Sale

Welcome to our family’s 15th annual production sale. These 15 production sales are the culmination of 40 years of breeding and selling seedstock to cattlemen across the Midwest and beyond. Our program continues to build on itself and we now are recognized as a premier breeder at the local, regional and national level, thanks to your support. We are thrilled to have you join us on February 22 and honored for the chance to be part of your breeding program. A bull is a significant investment and will influence your herd for many years. But we want a Lost River bull to be more than an investment in your herd, it needs to be an investment in your future. The bulls in these following pages have the potential to be just that, part of an exciting future.

Our disciplined breeding program is balanced between contemporary and time-tested traits. We aim to combine genotype with the right look to get to the heart of what makes the most money in all phases of production. The cattle offered in this year’s sale continue to move toward the top of their respective breeds for the carcass traits demanded by today’s beef packer and consumer. However, this improvement has not come at the cost of pre and post weaning performance, our cattle still rank in the upper echelon for growth traits. We also continue to watch those traits important for adding females back in the herd, milk production, longevity and calving ease. As you study the data, note that we continue to put pressure on milk production and stayability. Our milk production number continues to move toward average and stayability continues to improve. Those trends will help ensure our cowherds last longer and do so more economically. Finally, the calving ease and birth weight numbers continue to trend toward breed average. And certainly not least this is one of, if not the most, eye appealing set of cattle we have ever offered. We cull hard on foot quality, udder attachment and fertility, the traits which ultimately affect cowherd longevity.

Your success is our success, and without your new and repeat business, we could not continue to live our passion, raising world class beef cattle! Please join us at the farm for fellowship and good cattle conversations on February 22. We would love to show you our cattle anytime, including our open house on Saturday afternoon, February 15. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you on sale day.

Welcome to the 15th Annual Larson’s Lost River Livestock Annual Production Sale. Through the years we have sold bulls to many top seedstock producers and larger commercial producers throughout the U.S. The quality of LRL bulls is becoming one of the strongest in the Gelbvieh/Balancer breeds with some of the top genetics at the highest of quality. The 2025 exceeds all past years of quality genetics, performance and carcass traits. Please take a look at the videos on DvAuction as you will see how impressive the 2025 sale offering is in both the bulls and females selling.

The 2025 sale offers a wide range of genetics from three breeds that continues to produce quality at the highest level with more advanced data and predictability than previous sale offerings from Larson’s Lost River Livestock Production Sale. LRL continues to use top AI sires in the industry (some of these produced by Larson’s Lost River Livestock) and an extensive embryo transfer program to produce a product that excels in all facets of the industry. As you study the bulls you will find these bulls represent calving ease, performance, high carcass values and eye appeal. I take the opportunity to get through the cow herd every year to see the dams and sisters to these bulls and females selling. The factories you find in the pastures here are truly amazing females with high volume, soundness and milk that converts to the calves.

When you purchase a bull or female from LRL, you are getting the program with a high quality product. Past sale offerings are working for breeders nationwide with excellent success. These bulls and females are bred to acclimate and work in many weather climates with very little maintenance. We are proud of the success breeders are having with the LRL product. Seedstock and commercial producers are giving us reports throughout the year of the success they are having with Larson’s Lost River Livestock genetics.

Feel free to call or text with for any updated information or an evaluation of any animals in the sale offering.

Sincerely,

Larson’s Lost River Livestock Spring Gelbvieh Bull

Again, welcome to our 15th Annual Sale and again, just as in previous years, we lead off the sale with a bull we feel has tremendous potential to positively affect the breed. Equillibrium brings so many economically relevant traits to the table with calving ease, growth, fertility and carcass quality, he’s a bull we’re super excited about. Start off with his beautiful dam; she’s comes from the same flush that produced the $15,500 top selling female from the 2024 ND Golden Rule going to Coles Bend Cattle in KY and a $14,000 bull that sold to Chimney Butte Ranch in 2023. Coles Bend just offered a set of embryos out of the K82 female that fetched $2000/embryo on the National Sale in January, so needless to say, very in demand genetics. Equilibrium is sired by our all-time high seller, Dynamic J164 who is doing great things for us as well as our friends at J&K Gelbvieh and Colesbend. Dynamic semen isn’t available on the open market right now and likely won’t be in the future so tie into this bull and add those potent genetics to your herd. Homo black, homo polled, high percentage purebred with excellent EPDs and a tremendous pedigree, don’t miss out on one of the premier opportunities of 2025.

You’ll find the Nellie cow family peppered among the lots in this catalog and for good reason, the progeny out of Nellie cows are consistently some of our best. Balance M34 is Top Dollar qualified, homo black, homo polled, heifer safe and is going to sire an awesome set of feeder calves that’ll keep the buyers coming back year after year with how they perform in the lot and on the rail.

LRSF NET FORCE M56

There were 7 purebred Gelbvieh bulls born in the spring of 2024 with a minimum MARB EPD of 0.67 and an FPI value over 92, this guy was one of those bulls. When you take his combination of breed leading MARB and FPI, then add in his negative BW EPD, his totally outcross dam and his sire being the exclusive Dynamic bull, you get a really intriguing breeding piece. We feel this bull can help move the breed forward towards higher grading purebred Gelbvieh cattle while not losing sight of really important maternal traits such as heifer preg where he ranks in the top 25%, PG30 in top 20% and STAY in the top 10%.

CANDY E206

Another purebred Dynamic son here with breed leading figures and an excellent look. Net Force M56 is a homo black, homo polled prospect out of a perfect uddered, perfect footed Playbook daughter. She comes from the ultra-producive Eye Candy line of cows who you’ll find peppered throughout our program. We don’t have many Playbook females in production yet but there’s a bunch set to calve this spring and another big group in our yearling replacement pen. I think they just might become some of our most maternal and best constructed mama cows going forward. Tie into this guy if you’re looking to improve the maternal qualities of your herd while adding some heterosis punch.

When I look at the picture of this guy, I can’t help but get excited about the Dynamic progeny and what they’ll offer their new owners. Add in this guy’s incredibly balanced EPD set with nearly every trait at or above breed average, you can make significant improvement across the board in 1 generation and as an added bonus you can inject 2 of the hottest bulls in the breed into your herd with Dynamic on the top side of this pedigree and Pay Pal on the bottom. Connect the big-time performance and maternally superior line of Missy cows, you get a bull that really covers the bases. A high percentage purebred Gelbvieh that can be used in breed-up scenarios or on an Angus based group of cow to make some extremely good F1’s, you get a versatile bull who can work in almost any operation.

LRSF FREE ENERGY M7

Very closely related to the lot 6 bull, Free Energy’s dam comes from the same flush as lot 6’s dam and is also sired by Dynamic making the 2 bulls nearly full brothers. You can see between these 2 bulls, the quality is no fluke and the cross between Dynamic and Pay Pal really clicks. M7 is the biggest framed of the Dynamic sons with tremendous length of body and top end performance traits. He’ll definitely add pounds to a set of calves while producing highly maternal, high output daughters.

Burrow M32 is a direct son of our all-time high selling female, Rylee K224. Without a doubt, one of the easiest fleshing, most powerful and rugged bulls we’ve raised to date. Portage M142 is part of our first set of Voyageur progeny and boy are they impressive. Incredibly docile, very correct, easy fleshing, powerful and real rancher type bulls. This guy’s dam is a full sister to our high selling female in 2023 going to Black Gold Genetics and Warner Beef Genetics for $19,000. The J179 cow is quickly becoming one of our go-to high percentage Gelbvieh females to make outstanding purebreds as well as some of our most exciting Balancer matings. Watch for her influence to increase in our program going forward. Don’t miss this guy’s 746 lb adjusted weaning weight and nearly 1400 lb adjusted yearling weight. Real world performance coupled with excellent EPD strength.

This flush was an absolute homerun. Here we have 2 full brothers sired by the powerhouse Voyageur and out of the mother to the marbling king Dynamic, Jo-Leen D92 ET. Combine those 2 and you get a hellacious set of brothers with power, substance, eye appeal and outstanding EPD strength. Both bulls are homo black and homo polled with excellent growth EPDs coupled with some of the strongest carcass traits you’ll find. Both are dog gentle, extremely correct in their skeletal build and are some of the most robust and massive bulls in the group. They’ve been near the top of everyone’s list when walking through the bulls. At the end of the day, pounds and carcass value is what we all get paid on and these guys will move a group of calves in that direction in a big hurry. Also, their maternal sister, Jo-Leen L159 ET, just sold for $18,000 on the ND Golden Rule sale. High profit generating genetics here.

All cattle selling with Genomic Enhanced EPDs have the GGP logo located at the top right of each respective pedigree. DNA testing is a huge priority in our program to better help the buyer with selection process of the animals in the sale. It also helps us with our genetic progress and breeding selections for future animals offered in our annual production sale.

In addition to the pedigree, performance and progeny data utilized to breed the best and most prolific cattle we can, the Genomic Enhanced EPDs (GE EPDs) add reliability and accuracy to an animals EPDs to offer another selection tool to the sale offering. The DNA testing verifies the genetic merit and predictability in all breeds of cattle.

The true breeding value of animal is not 100% known, however with the advancement of GE EPDs, it does give us a strong indicator of what to expect from the genetic values of the cattle. The GE EPDs give us a fair evaluation and comparison of animals within the same breed to help breeders make a selection of animals that will fit best in a breeding program. Comparisons should be made Gelbvieh/Balancer to Gelbvieh/Balancer, Red Angus to Red Angus and Simmental to Simmental within this sale book.

Where to start with these guys, just an awesome set of brothers out of one of the superior cows in the Gelbvieh breed. The 94D donor just never misses. With a bull like this, it’s easy to see why Essential has become so popular. Essential has become the go-to bull in the Simmental breed for single generation improvement across the board; calving ease, growth, maternal, carcass, feet, docility and overall eye appeal. Navigation M12 does all those things with one of the most balanced EPD spreads in the offering and as you can see from his picture, he’s a bull that really rings the bell in terms of style and design. He continues to improve every day and will definitely be a favorite on sale day.

LRL HYDRATION M166

Another Essential son, Hydration M166 does all of the things right. Heifer safe calving ease traits, top 10% WW, top 2% YW and nearly every other trait ranks not just above breed average, but in the top 25%. It’s really hard to find a bull that can blend this sort of EPD strength with terrific real world performance, as noted by his 750 lb adjusted weaning weight and 1400+ adjusted yearling weight. Add in the power of his cow family which is the same cow family as lot 64 and you get a bull that really rings the bell.

Wager M217 is a really eye-catching bull sired by our resident herdsire Steakholder and out of a beautifully made Angus cow. 1921 is a cow you’d like to have 100 of, super feminine, huge middled, excellent feet and legs, perfect udder and just ideally designed. Add in the incredible Sugar C4 cow on the top side of this bull’s pedigree and you get a super maternally focused bull that’ll sire outstanding replacement females as well as heavy, eye appealing feeders.

We purchased the dam to this bull last spring from Five Star Ranch as one of the high selling females for $12,500. If you’ve followed along with Jared’s program down there, you’ll have seen its one of the hottest herds of Simmental cattle in the US right now and for good reason. The cattle are sound, stout and incredibly attractive. This guy is no different with some of the best numerical values in the sale, regardless of breed. Top 10% STAY, top 20% MARB, top 10% API and top 20% TI all in a super stylish, sound package.

Our only red SimInfluenced bull this year, McCarthy M208 is a stout, powerfully made Quarterback son with heifer safe calving ease traits and backed by one of the most prolific cows in the Simmental breed, TJ 38W. The 38W cow is known for her ability to produce super attractive progeny with excellent feet and calm dispositions. This guy is exactly that in a SimAngus package that will work on heifers without sacrificing growth and eye appeal on a set of calves. Note he’s the third highest bull in the sale for average daily gain.

Hands down, one of the best bulls in the entire sale. We reached back in our embryo inventory, hoping for a heifer out of this mating but ended up with this absolute stud which wasn’t a bad consolation prize. Reverence L315 is sired by one of the all-time great Gelbvieh bulls, Leverage and out of one of the best cows to ever walk these pastures, the original Rylee U810. The reason we were hoping for a heifer is because L315’s full sister is the dam to the $22,0000 Voyageur and to lots 13-16 in this sale but with a bull like this, we have no disappointments. This is the epitome of proven performance genetics alongside elite maternal potency. This bull is the complete package.

Larson’s Lost River Livestock Fall Balancer Bulls

One of my favorite bulls, Olympus L300 really does everything right. Backed by one of our best cow families, tracing back to the 77B donor and sired by the super versatile Patriarch bull who sired a bull that sold here last year for $10,000 to Rick Wehri in WY. The Patriarch progeny are some of the most easy to market cattle in the industry because they blend calving ease, growth, maternal excellence and carcass quality with incredible eye appeal and this guy is no different. Phenomenal EPD strength and balance straight across the board, homo black, homo polled and so easy to look at, he’ll definitely be in high demand on sale day.

And when you factor in their donor dam 94D, you get a couple of bulls that’ll sire calves that’ll pound the scales down and daughters that’ll become some of your top replacements. Airanna L178 is a direct daughter of our topflight 77B donor and sired by the exclusive, high demand Pay Pal. A full brother to L178 sold to Ken Chambers in NC and sired some outstanding high-performance offspring there. Many other 77B have made it to purebred breeders and she continues to be a focal point in our breeding program. Look for L178 to continue that legacy of outstanding production ability and as she’s a high percentage purebred with a completely outcross pedigree, the mating options for her new owner will be limitless. Arianna L178 was AI bred on May 10, 2024 to DBRG Bold Ruler 3194L and sells ultrasound confirmed safe to her AI date carrying a heifer calf. She’ll have that heifer calf at side on sale day and boy oh boy will she be special. Larson’s Lost River Livestock Breeding Legacy

The cattle in this catalog are part of the legacy started by our great-grandfather and his brother who homesteaded on this ground in 1896. They built the foundation that was continued by our grandfather Wally and then by our dad Mark. He started using artificial insemination in 1977 and then embryo transfer in 2004. Looking back, many of the cattle in our herd can trace back to those first AI sires Dad used and represent nearly 50 years of focused genetic selection coupled with the aggressive use of available technologies. Today, we AI over 300 females and implant over 150 embryos annually to provide the best possible genetics we can to help add value to our customers operations. These endeavors do take time and hard work but if our efforts can improve the bottom line for our customers, we will continue to do them for your benefit and ours.

Forever Queen L119 traces back to the rock solid C129 female who is as youthful and sound as any 10-year-old cow you’ll find, perfect footed, ideal in her udder design, raises a very good calf every year and always breeds back. Watch for this lady to follow in those same footsteps. Forever Queen L119 was AI bred on May 10, 2024 to LSF SRR Diversified 1143J. She sells ultrasound confirmed safe to her AI date carrying a heifer calf and will have a calf at side on sale day.

Setting down a perfect udder, she looks to become a phenomenal production cow and its no wonder when you factor in her sire J140 who came to us from the famed Chimney Butte Ranch in ND. Doug’s cattle produced no matter what environment they were in and the maternal prowess of his females was off the charts. Forever Queen L246 was AI bred on May 10, 2024 to LRSF Dynamic Red H20. The Lakota line has become synonymous around here for highly maternal female producers that almost never miss and as she’s sired by the old Quarterback bull, you can bet she’s going to set down a perfect udder and be dog gentle. The 2099 cow has been one of Gary’s most potent producers with sons working in purebred herds across the country and daughters retained and sold as donors. The Heidi line, much like the Lakota line, is an absolute powerhouse maternal line of cows. Watch for this girl to live up to her pedigree. Heidi L162 sells bred to PIE Quarterback 0109 and ultrasound indicates she’s due March 29, 2025.

Another female from the Lakota line, another female with tremendous maternal quality and the potential to be a top end cow in any herd. Lakota L70’s dam is without a doubt one of our top Red Angus females raising the Lakota J48 female who is the newest addition to our donor pen. Lakota L70 was AI bred on May 10, 2024 to C-T Reputation 0094. She sells ultrasound confirmed safe to her AI date and will have a calf at side on sale day. This will be one of the first Reputation calves to be born outside of the ownership group as his semen just hit the open market last spring. Pretty excited about this mating.

The maternal strength of this cow family is top-notch, and this female should fit in nicely with any herd. A little bigger framed female here, Heidi L73 goes back to the 8106 donor just like lot 88 and has many of same qualities. Super feminine, long bodied, very correct and extremely maternal in her overall design. And as she’s sired by Stockmarket, her value only increases with his semen very limited while still in high demand. Heidi L73 sells bred to PIE Quarterback 0109 and ultrasound indicates she’s carrying a bull calf due March 19, 2025.

Red Angus Calf/Fetal EPDs

Just like in previous years, we’re offering a group of home raised commercial heifers and a group of heifers we purchased from the Schimming Brothers in ND. These girls are extremely docile, well vaccinated and come from some of the highest performance lines of cattle we have. They’ll certainly raise some heavy calves and with the feeder calf market continuing to rise, the value of adding high genetic merit females has never been higher.
