Breeder’s CHOICE GENERAL INFORMATION

Gelbvieh Bull Futurity

The Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity has been initiated by Gelbvieh breeders and supporters to increase participation in the National Gelbvieh Show, the National Gelbvieh Sale and to identify the most useful young sires in the Gelbvieh breed. The sponsor of the annual Futurity will be the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity, Inc., a non-profit organization, not associated with the American Gelbvieh Association.

The Futurity winners will be selected by scored balloting of the participating breeders members. Ballots must have a different bull in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Ballots must include all three positions.

The consignor of the Futurity winner shall receive the greater of approximately 80% of the net futurity funds or the net proceeds from the sale of the bull in the National Sale . Two runners-up will be identified to receive approximately 10% respectively of the net futurity funds.

The Futurity winner will be sold in the National Gelbvieh Sale. The lesser of the net sale proceeds of the winning bull or the net futurity proceeds will be given to one breeder/member who will be selected by a random drawing at the Futurity Social on Saturday night.

Each Futurity breeder member will receive 20 (twenty) units of semen from the winning bull.

The voting will be held at the Jim Norick Arena Ring 1, Monday, January 4, 2021, at approximately 10:00 am. The top 3 vote winning bulls in the initial voting will come back to the arena for a second voting to select and announce The Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Champion.

Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity drawing will held at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel, Monday night, January 4, 2021, at the Breeder’s Choice Futurity Social.

The 2021 Futurity is limited to 53 breeder memberships. We are selling 4 memberships during the Futurity Final Events at the Sheraton Downtown. 5 of Clubs, Queen of Diamonds, 2 of Hearts and 7 of Hearts sell prior to the drawing.

All bulls entered in the 2021 Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity have been DNA tested for HD Genomic EPDs and are tested for the following genetic defects: AM; NH; CA; and DD. The winning Breeder’s Choice Futurity bull is AI qualified and all tests have been completed to meet the AGA requirements for AI sires.

In a year where there have been so many challenges, Ol’ Glory has been a bright spot in the ProHart program. Just like his namesake, this bull will make you stand up and take notice. He packs a stellar phenotype with an EPD profile that any progressive cattleman can put to use. Ol’ Glory’s first outing brought home Intermediate Champion at the 2020 American Royal.

What really excites us is his impressive EPD package. ProHart has been putting more selection emphasis on Marbling and Feed Profit Index and we are excited to announce that Ol’ Glory ranks in the top 2% of the breed in both Marbling and FPI. Impressive for a 95-percenter. Glory also offers birth weight and calving ease direct in the 10 and 15 percentiles. He also maintains above-average weaning and yearling, along with moderate milk to complete his EPD resume. This caliber of excellence is apparent in his pedigree. His sire OGSG Centurion 120C was selected out of the Overmiller program to help moderate and add depth of body to our females. Centurion’s pattern follows along with his National Champion sire, Zipline. Ol’ Glory’s dam is a daughter of Flying H Mr. 184 316Y, who has put tremendous females into our program. ProHart Brandy 516C EPD’s in SED, BW, WW, YW, DOC, MARBLING, and EPI rank in the top 10%. Her MILK, TM, CEM, $COW rank in the top 2%, and STAY & FPI are in the top 1% for the breed.

You can see why the Brandy cow family has been a mainstay in the ProHart program. Ol’ Glory backs up his impressive EPD’S with performance to match; 83 lbs. birth weight, 858 adjusted weaning weight, and a 1328 adjusted yearling weight. Combine all of those characteristics and you have a bull that will elevate any herd’s production.

It is with great pleasure that we present TAU Rush 110H to you for this year’s bull futurity. Rush is Homozygous Polled. He is the result of many years of meticulous selection in hopes of creating top of the line purebred bulls and females. His dam, the mother of past Balancer bull futurity champion TAU Weight Up 98E, is building quiet the reputation around our place for producing high end progeny. She offers a WW ratio of 107, a YW ratio of 102, a REA ratio of 101, and an IMF ratio of 120. Rush 110H is sired by the outcross performance and carcass sire Bennett E158. We used him to add growth and carcass quality while maintaining maternal strength and we are pleased with the result. 110H’s quality starts at the ground where he is sound structured and wide based. What’s truly unique about Rush is the amount of substance, muscle shape and depth of rib he brings to the table. If you analyze his EPD profile you will notice that he ranks in the top 1% of the breed for weaning weight and yearling weight, top 10% for carcass weight and ribeye area, and still ranks in the top 1/3 of the breed for milk and total maternal.
