Dr. Cornelius Johnson DANVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OCTOBER 16, 2026
Dr. Cornelius Johnson serves as President of Danville Community College, providing strategic leadership focused on advancing student success, strengthening institutional excellence, expanding partnerships, and positioning the College as a leading educational and workforce development resource for the communities and region it serves. He joined Danville Community College in 2021 as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services and was appointed Interim President on December 1, 2024, before being selected to serve as President of the College. Dr. Johnson brings a diverse and accomplished professional background spanning higher education leadership, academic affairs, student services, student success, program management, teaching, and organizational leadership. Prior to joining DCC, he served as Dean of Student Success at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas. His previous leadership experience also includes service at Lone Star College in Tomball, Texas, where he held progressively responsible roles including Project Coordinator for Student Success/Assistant Dean, Interim Dean of Student Development, and Academic Advisor. Earlier in his professional career, Dr. Johnson served as a Program Manager at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, adding to the breadth of experience that has shaped his approach to leadership, innovation, collaboration, and organizational excellence. An educator as well as an administrator, Dr. Johnson has served as a lecturer at the University of Houston-Downtown, the University of Texas at Dallas, and Indiana State University. His experience across community colleges, universities, and one of the nation’s most recognized institutions for science and exploration has contributed to a leadership philosophy centered on high expectations, opportunity, innovation, and the belief that institutions are strongest when people are empowered to achieve their full potential. A proud community college graduate himself, Dr. Johnson’s personal educational journey reflects the transformative mission he now champions as a college president. He began his higher education journey at Seattle Central Community College, where he earned his associate degree, before earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, a master’s degree from Indiana State University, and a Doctor of Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He further developed his executive leadership through the Future Presidents Institute of the American Association of Community Colleges. Throughout his career, Dr. Johnson has remained a steadfast advocate for the transformative power of education and the unique role community colleges play in changing lives, strengthening families, and advancing communities. His leadership is grounded in expanding access and opportunity, increasing student achievement and completion, strengthening connections between education and careers, developing meaningful community and workforce partnerships, and building institutional capacity for long-term success. As President of Danville Community College, Dr. Johnson is committed to honoring the College’s rich legacy while positioning DCC for an even stronger future—one defined by excellence, innovation, opportunity, and an unwavering commitment to the students and communities it serves.
