Families in Crisis: The Mental Health Effects of the Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has sparked a mental health crisis in families across this country and around the world. Over the past several months, this disease has exacerbated pre- existing mental health conditions in the midst of economic depression, family conflict, food insecurities, child abuse, domestic violence and growing racial tensions. In The State of Mental Health 2021 report, published by Mental Health America, we learn that “As Covid-19 spread throughout the United States, it not only resulted in greater morbidity and mortality in terms of physical health but also had disastrous effects on the mental health of the nation.”
