Perla Lichi Design

Diseño maximalista inspirado en el color

A

Maximalist Design Inspired by color

W

hen first stepping into Perla Lichi Design’s latest masterpiece, you might feel like you have mistakenly stepped into a vaporwave art gallery. This fresh, new art movement incorporates cassette futurism with classical Greek sculptures and a pop art twist. The entryway to this home is adorned with digital art printed on hard, reflective acrylic panels. A standout piece is a life-size illustrated caricature of the home owner, designed by Izzy Lichi, meant to capture the owner’s playful and fun-loving side. Each piece is original and the electric amethyst and hot pink and blue color pallet unify the rest of the house’s ambiance, as if escaping the confines of their frames and stretching past the sheen of the metallic accents peppered through the entry. The light bouncing off the art, and slick ceiling with flushed LED light sources creates an utterly whimsical environment unlike any home. Walking through the main hall, visitors will be stunned by the original art but will gasp at the sheer opulence and ingenuity of the homeowner’s eclectic boutique. This sanctuary is festooned with fashionably chic boots, designer handbags, and stylish personal effects that are a personal expression of the owner’s personality, now manifested. The sliding, gold-accented closets in the boutique are custom and feature an elaborate network of LEDs to brandish the display with maximum appeal. At the center of this sacred space is a tremendous pink, marble slab island showcasing the owner’s effects. Above is a playful crystalline, purple chandelier resembling a palm tree. The vaporwave motif does not end there; the ceiling lights up with cool blues and purple designs, giving the home an exciting and dynamic atmosphere.

Past the boutique, guests will be ambushed by the dazzling living room and kitchen space. The island is a majestic marble with pink webbing patterns, making a dramatic impression as it catches colors sheens and highlights from the glowing incandescent LEDs and magnificent 4K amethyst light box ceiling. The pure white leather sectional brightly contrasts with the various shades of purples, blues, and pinks unifying the home, inviting visitors to take a seat and bask in the dramatic home theater system while cuddling with the playful, hand-made, custom throws. The space is a powerful and overwhelming mixture of the owner’s original tastes, and Perla Lichi Design’s unrestrained creativity, while incorporating innovative design solutions and pushing aesthetics to their absolute peak. The stately and lengthy marble dining table draws visitors’ eye to its head, leading to an LED lit wall decorated with original oil paintings. One piece depicts a flashy reimagining of Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa, remixed with some vaporwave motifs and lurid colors. Beside it is another oil painting, a large and dramatic portrait of the owner with a floral motif and mixed media elements that incorporate flower embellishments. Both paintings were made by Adam Lichi, representing the homeowner’s appreciation for fine, classical art. The setting is unbelievably atmospheric and positively charged with imagination and a refreshing style.

Perla Lichi Design’s innovations and flair for imaginative and whimsical designs are second to none. Every space is personalized and unique while giving homeowners a place that is bursting with personality. This two-bedroom home is an evocative example of Perla Lichi’s designs at their most personal and unrestrained, showing how far her team can go with modern sensibilities while also daring to push maximalist concepts to their limit. Whoever said that modern design had to be minimalistic? Like always, only Perla Lichi is daring enough to reinvent the rules. www.perlalichi.com

Invest in art

By Verónica Guerra de Alberti

I

nvesting in art can be a smart decision, but it depends on your financial goals, your personal interests, and the level of risk you are willing to take. Here are some approaches and trends in the art market that could help you decide, so at D´CASA we give you some recommendations. 1. Contemporary art • It is one of the most popular areas for investment because it includes living artists or those who have recently worked. • Artists such as Banksy, Yayoi Kusama or Jean-Michel Basquiat (postmortem) have generated high returns at auctions. • The market can be volatile, but it has great potential for appreciation if you choose works by rising artists. 2. Art by modern and classic masters • Works by Picasso, Monet or Van Gogh are usually a solid investment. • This market is more stable, but the barriers to entry are high due to the initial cost. 3. Limited Editions and Prints • Buying limited edition prints, lithographs, or sculptures from well-known artists can be more affordable. • Although they are less valuable than a one-off work, they can appreciate significantly.

4. Digital Art and NFTs • NFTs and digital art are a growing trend, driven by platforms like OpenSea and artists like Beeple. • It is a speculative market with high risks, but it has generated extraordinary profits for some investors. 5. Local or Emerging Art • Investing in local or emerging artists can be very profitable in the long term. • Research galleries and art fairs in your region to identify new talent. But don’t forget to keep in mind some practical tips for investing: • Research the market: Follow auctions, consult with experts, and visit galleries. • Diversify: Don’t invest everything in a single artist or style. • Buy what you love: If it doesn’t appreciate in value, at least it will be something you enjoy. • Seek professional advice: Art consultants and auction houses If you are wondering what are the most highly valued works of art on the market today, here are some of the most notable ones: 1. “Salvator Mundi” by Leonardo da Vinci: Sold in 2017 for $450.3 million, this painting became the most expensive work ever auctioned. 2. “Nafea faa ipoipo” (“When will you get married?”) by Paul Gauguin: This work was acquired in a private sale for approximately $300 million in 2015.

3. “Interchange” by Willem de Kooning: Sold for $300 million in a private transaction in 2015. 4. “The Card Players” by Paul Cézanne: Bought by the Qatari government in a private sale for $250 million. 5. Jackson Pollock’s “Number 17A”: Purchased for $200 million at a private sale in 2016. 6. Pablo Picasso’s “The Women of Algiers (Version O)”: Sold in 2015 for $179.4 million. 7. Amedeo Modigliani’s “Reclining Nude”: Sold in 2015 for $170.4 million. 8. Francis Bacon’s “Three Studies of Lucian Freud”: Sold in 2013 for $142.4 million. 9. Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”: Sold in 2012 for $119.9 million. 10. Pablo Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust”: Sold in 2010 for $106.4 million. These figures reflect the value that the art market assigns to masterpieces by renowned artists, both at public auctions and in private sales.

WANGFU MANSION AND GARDEN Designwire

Interior Design by Zhang Ping Key Design Features The removal of a small existing mezzanine on the upper floor has freed up extra vertical space, giving the rooms there a sense of generous headspace and an overall openness. At the same time, the designer has ensured that the feel and spatial qualities of the original interior of the upper floor have been preserved, resulting in a fascinating yet harmonious integration of old and new architectural elements. The new layout has improved the everyday functionality of the space, while retaining the unique character and charm of the existing building. The indoor and outdoor environments are visually and thematically connected through architectural elements which echo one another, incorporating similar materials, colors, lighting, and forms. The overall effect is a sense of cohesiveness, where the garden feels like an extension of the interior, thereby giving an added dimension of space to the ground floor rooms. The designer has paid careful attention to the scale of his interventions, focusing on human comfort, convenience, and livability, ensuring that the design enhances the functionality of the various spaces while giving the project a fresh aesthetic appeal.

The master bedroom ensuite retains the small arched window of the original building, allowing sunlight to enter the room each morning. The appeal of the existing architectural character is preserved while creating a warm and pleasant ambience. Facing the ensuite directly across the bedroom is a freestanding bathtub framed by a large curved window, which opens up views to the garden below. A further high window above at the former mezzanine level lets in yet more sunlight, giving the room an overall atmosphere of natural luminance. Residents are afforded a pleasant experience each morning, surrounded by vibrant colors and comfortable materials and textures. The ceiling above the staircase at the upper floor landing features a red backdrop constructed of steel, specifically designed as a play structure for the client’s pet cats. Visually, it presents a strikingly modern architectural addition to the space while also providing nooks and crannies at a scale appropriate to cats. Overall, it adds a sense of fun and energy to the space around it.

A number of concrete benches, lit from below, provide plentiful seating, while a black minimalist water feature adds a touch of modern elegance. Overall, the garden offers the possibility of a number of different activities, whether for socializing or simply to relax and unwind after a long day. Residents here can commune with nature directly outside their home, with it becoming part of the fabric of their everyday experience, subtly yet powerfully enhancing their quality of life. Project information Project name: Wangfu Mansion and Garden Location: Changping District, Beijing Chief Designer: Zhang Ping MEP Consultant: Kang Zheng Project Designer: Yang Xiunan Project Year: 2024 Interior Area: 320 sqm Photographer: Zheng Yan

By skillfully integrating natural landscaping with subtly scaled architectural elements, the rear yard has been transformed into a modern forest garden. A variety of plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers have been introduced to create a lush outdoor space that is fully integrated with a number of space-defining garden walls, stepped stone tile areas, and a sunken, covered fire pit.

Arquitectura de la ciudad Isabel Rosas Martín del Campo

S

I

f the city, in its most basic definition, is a densely populated and organized human settlement that functions as a center of economic, social, cultural and political activity, what am I in it? I leave my house and enter my city or I leave the city every time I enter my house. This relationship of an inside and an outside distances us from the life that is fragmented between silent walls. Impassable due to their hardness, although sometimes they crumble before the crude indifference of those who see in them a barrier; a distant physical structure that separates or divides spaces like domestic and domesticated life. I wonder if each wall had a voice, perhaps it would respond that it serves to protect and create privacy, even to establish clear limits between an “inside” and an “outside.” Or perhaps it would respond that its existence goes beyond its wounded materiality. Or is it perhaps a parable of the barriers that we impose on ourselves or that are imposed on us by society, culture or the collective mind itself. If so, I think: perhaps it represents the boundary between the known and the unknown of my self and the other “self”.

The city is the shelter of all selves, where each one of us and of the others is myself. Poor city! I celebrate it and pity it, sometimes empty and forgotten, other times saturated and addicted and other times so harassed and polluting. The maelstrom of life invades it like water, every interstice does not escape a human life. In it, the Architecture that delimits the human experience in front of the “whole” is demarcated. For each life, the city transcends its materiality to become an allegory of the human condition and its coexistence. It is both a product of human thought and a reflection of its contradictions and aspirations. It is the artifice of human space, it reminds me of Lefebvre when he knows that the space that men and women build is evidence that tries to overcome nature, which continually alienates him to remind him of his inferiority before it. Or the city as memory, it is that palimpsest that Walter Benjamin defines as an accumulation of times and experiences that are continually written and rewritten. Labyrinth city, you symbolize my complexity and the complexity of intertwined human existence.

I walk through the city and notice that it is mine, it encompasses much more than its physical and indifferent functionality. It is a mirror of humanity, it is my mirror in which I see myself reflected to infinity with all its lights and shadows. In its connection with my house, the city becomes a living fabric, where private and collective spaces constantly dialogue with each life. The house inhabits the city while in the city its soul inhabits the house, my house.

Los yates más lujosos Por Verónica Guerra de Alberti

P

No solo gin Por Giancarlo Frigerio “Gifri”

o solo cerveza, ginebra o whisky escocés.

Not just gin By Giancarlo Frigerio “Gifri”

N

ot just beer, gin or Scotch whisky. Britain also has surprises in terms of Bubbles. The quality of English wine, especially sparkling wine, is gaining points among industry insiders and consumers. There are those who speak of a real Made in the UK Wine Revolution. They range from simple white wines to British sparkling wines, obtained by refermentation in the bottle. A little prosecco and a little of “champagne” Let’s take a leap into history... Viticulture was practiced in ancient Britain since the Roman times; William the Conqueror (eleventh century) listed 46 areas with vineyards in their Domesday Book. During the reign of Henry VIII (16th century) there were 139 vineyards belonging to to nobles and to the Church. However, after the closure of the monasteries due to the schism with the Church of Rome, and together with the mini-glaciation of the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, a large part of the vineyards Disappeared. The date to remember in the history of English wine is December 17, 1662, when the scientist Christopher Merret presented his work to the Royal Society of London on the production of wine, in which he coined the term sparkling wine and, describing the method of addition The incorporation of sugar into wine and the use of glass bottles more laid the foundation for the creation of the classical method, many years before Dom Pérignon and the French techniques of sparkling wines.

In England, there has been an increase in interest from foreigners in recent years: the media communication and critics began to speak positively and with a certain enthusiasm about the wines English. 10 years ago there were perhaps only two or three wines that could have conquered the market outside the UK. Now there are many more. Gusbourne has vineyards in Kent since 2004 and in 2010 it launched the Brut and Blanc sparkling wines with a demand that has now been Shot. A sign that maybe something in the market is changing. I will explain why there is so much interest in British sparkling wines. During the season of Growing vines, the mild temperatures in the south of England are almost the same as they are decades in France, in the Champagne region. Therefore, the producers of the famous wine they saw with interest the potential that exists in the south of England. Of course, this is also due to climate change and global warming. Most English grape varieties are concentrated in the eastern coastal area and To the west, south of the cities of Birmingham and Norwick. In this area, the current of the Channel of La Mancha makes the climate mild, helping to improve the ripening of the grapes. There are currently about 500 winegrowers in Britain and a production of more than 9 million bottles, of which 80% represents local consumption.

And what do the French do? Simple, they are buying and buying land in the south of the island. What until a few decades ago would have seemed absurd just to imagine, is now a reality: the great champagne houses, such as Taittinger and Vranken-Pommery, have been years acquiring land in England to produce sparkling wines. and not only for the market local. It’s Louis Pommery England brut, already launched on the market in 2018, represents the first wine English sparkling wine made by a French maison. The result was so positive that Vranken- Pommery began planting another 32 hectares of vineyards in England, in Hampshire.Pol Roger He also thinks so, showing an interest in English viticulture, given the close relationship with the market in the UK. So how about a trip to the south of England to visit cavas and have some CHAMPAGNE flutes instead of a beer or a Gin?

A

(Dalai Lama)

The top of the world is not on everest Roger Pilatowsky

lthough I consider myself an unconventional man, like many other entrepreneurs, I spent years trapped in the dangerous comfort zone offered by the deceptive shine of the corporate world. But there came a moment when my soul demanded more. Routine, external goals, and the illusion of stability became insufficient. I needed to find a meaning that would bring greater depth to my existence. That was when I decided to embark on an adventure that would change my life: an expedition to Everest—not to conquer the mountain, but to discover myself. My journey began with a long-awaited encounter that, as if marked by destiny, ignited my spirit. In India, I had the privilege of meeting the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. Before his serene gaze and profound wisdom, I personally promised to carry the Tibetan flag as high as my body would allow. That commitment was not just a symbolic gesture but a pact with my very essence—an oath to rise above my fears and limitations. Thus began my ascent toward the mountain known as the “top of the world,” but in truth, it led me to the summit of my own being. Under such challenging circumstances, where nature is not only majestic but also overwhelming, I grasped the immeasurable smallness and fragility of man; yet, in contrast, the infinite greatness of the human spirit. The Himalayas strip away any nostalgic illusion of control and remind you how minuscule you are in the vastness of the universe. Among landscapes of eternal ice and skies that seem to brush against the divine, I found silences that spoke to me more clearly than any words—whispers that carried the murmur of the gods.

During the exhausting yet inspiring days of ascent, I became a witness to acts of resilience that profoundly shaped me. The Sherpas, those heroes without capes, showed me that human greatness does not reside in material wealth but in the strength of the spirit. I watched them carry impossible loads, dressed in nothing but the most austere garments— an almost poetic metaphor for their humility—while their worn-out flip-flops treaded the same treacherous terrain I struggled to conquer in specialized boots. Their laughter, their willingness to help, and their deep connection with the mountain were reminders that true greatness needs no embellishment.

med without limits and the person we hope to become in our final days. If we manage to reconcile those two, we will have truly lived.

Between laughter and card games with them, and deeply moved by their example, I learned about the profound impact that embracing our fears and understanding them as opportunities for transmutation and growth can and should have in our lives. I also came to realize the immense importance of stepping beyond comfort to transcend. In that context, I finally understood: my fears were not obstacles but stepping stones for the ascent of my soul. Perhaps that is why the wise say that behind fear lies success.

However, the journey was only just beginning. There are paths that, like whispers to the intuition, invite us to keep exploring.

In those moments—what some mystics call The Great Silence—the mountain spoke to me in its own language: a language of epiphanies. I realized that life does not have a single, predefined meaning; rather, life is the opportunity to create meaning. I understood that our purpose is to remain true to two versions of ourselves—the child who once drea-

Reaching nearly 6,000 meters above sea level, my body had reached its limits, yet my spirit had never felt so free. In that place, where immensity caresses the soul, I understood that Everest was never a mountain to be conquered—it was a mirror, revealing the deepest truths of my being: my fears, my strengths, and my true essence. I returned home with a lesson that transcends geography: the highest summits are the ones within us.

But that—that is another story… “There are only two days in the year when nothing can be done: one is called yesterday and the other tomorrow. Today is the ideal day to love, grow, and live.” —Dalai Lama

D

harks have always had a strange and mystical attraction for me. At first it was fear, then curiosity, admiration and respect for these mystical marine beings that have existed in the seabed for more than 300 million years. Encounters with sharks are becoming increasingly rare, as indiscriminate fishing is causing these species to rapidly disappear from the face of the earth. So, to observe them in their natural environment, we have to travel to the most remote places on the planet. That is why we are now on the island of Cuba and as we all know, Cuba is surrounded by the transparent Caribbean Sea and the imposing Atlantic Ocean. We took a bus to the south of Ciego de Ávila, in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, and then arrived at the small port of Jucaro, with just 1,500 inhabitants, which we reached after 7 hours on the road.

Upon arrival, we boarded one of the live-aboard boats, in which we sailed 48 nautical miles that separated us from the coast, until we anchored in a place known as the 12-league labyrinth. It is a place surrounded by mangroves. As soon as we left our bags in the cabins, we put on our diving equipment and went to do our first dive in a place known as Caras, a place with very little current and abundant marine life. The pillar corals or castles were of impressive size, the candelabras showed their polyps completely open, the brain corals looked healthy and the Nassau groupers were everywhere and in the caves there were lobsters and green moray eels. Before finishing our first dive we were able to see the first sharks. The next day, the guide Noel had a surprise prepared for us. When we arrived at the diving site we realized that it was full of silky sharks, and they were desperately waiting for their breakfast. One by one we broke the surface of the water, and to our surprise the sharks did nothing to us. What caught our attention the most was a huge and heavy grouper that did not come away from us during our entire underwater journey.

That’s how we spent the days, diving among tarpon, snappers, manta rays, turtles, pollock and sharks. Penetrating underwater caves or crossing coral canyons. Time passed very quickly and on my last dive I wondered when my next visit to the impressive archipelago of the Jardines de la Reyna would be, where I had the opportunity to meet great sea companions. Thanks to my cousins Alexandro and Rocío for sharing this adventure with Cris and me. www.solobuceo.com

The birth of trends By Lizbeth Montes de Oca

Who Decides What’s in Fashion?

O

ne day, you wake up, and suddenly everyone is wearing miniskirts. The next, low-rise jeans rise from the dead (help!), and before you know it, you’re wondering if you should give them another chance. But… who decides what’s trendy, and why do we all eventually fall under its spell? Trends don’t happen by accident. Centuries ago, royalty and aristocrats dictated fashion—if Marie Antoinette wore a one-meter-high wig, the next day, half the French court was balancing their own towering masterpiece. Then, with the Industrial Revolution, mass production made fashion more accessible, and along came a new source of inspiration: fashion magazines. From the iconic Vogue, founded in 1892, to the first department store catalogs, people started discovering what was “in” and “out” long before social media took over. But the real boom came in the 20th century when the runways of Paris, Milan, and New York became dreamlike stages where designers like Chanel, Dior, and Saint Laurent unveiled the looks we longed to wear. And of course, movies and music played their part—who could forget the impact of Audrey Hepburn’s little black dress or Madonna’s rebellious leather look in the ’80s?

Today, trends travel at the speed of a click. What was once exclusive to fashion shows now appears first on TikTok or Instagram. It’s no longer just designers setting the rules— now, influencers, celebrities, and even a tiny Parisian café where someone snapped the perfect outfit picture can define what’s next. In the end, trends are a game we all play, but the real magic lies in how we make them our own. Because yes, low-rise jeans might be making a comeback… but that doesn’t mean we have to accept them without a little reflection first.
