Based Project Learning

“A teaching model that organizes learning around projects” what could be different from the ordinary teaching method? Based Project Learning is a teaching methodology used to promote knowledge and skills in students, where they had to investigate and find a solution or an answer to a complex question or real-world problem. This teaching method could be used in any ambit, but it Is mainly for the little kids in primary school for them to learn since they are kids to develop autonomy, and critical thinking, among other benefits. In the next paragraphs, we will find out more about the effectiveness, some characteristics and, reasons to use the method.

To put in practice this teaching methodology we need to be aware of what is and the process to reach the goal successfully.

First, it is important to mention that this methodology was created to promote learners’ skills such as self-autonomy, and critical thinking and teach the students to learn to solve real world problems by themselves, also it promotes social skills, group work and considers the others’ opinions. Then, to start using the method the teacher creates groups and gives an important question or topic based on real world situations, for example, a question like “what would you propose to help people before or after a natural disaster”? depending on the level of the education we can use easier or harder questions. Finally, when the challenge is set up the students need to follow some steps. For example, first, the teacher needs to bring the students prior knowledge and encourage the group to deeply investigate the problem, and set the outline or the first brainstorm all together, then they have to develop the project with all the information and at the end ,they need to present the final propose or solution. It is also important to mention that this project could last from a week to a semester.

In addition, I would like to mention some other characteristics of the methodology, some different uses and, the benefits of the implementation of it.

First, it is important to mention that the project provides the opportunity for the student to raise her/his voice and to take their choice in the process and the final product, it is especially necessary for shy persons. In fact, there are many ways to use the Based Project learning, for example, it could be used to emphasize a problem to design specific scenarios, and even using physical artifacts. In another hand, when it comes to the benefits, we could mention that there is evidence shown in the students that BPL has helped them become more creative, collaborative, it becomes easier to solve problems, and the selfconfidence becomes bigger.

As a teacher, I would like to put this into practice, why? Here I present the reasons. First reason would be because I’m a very shy person and I think to put this methodology into practice is an amazing way to transform the shyness into group work, ideas interchange and selfconfidence. Besides, I would love to promote in my students the creativity, the investigation and, information research, I know if I put this in practice, I would probably ask my students to create something crafty and handmade and at the end present the proposal in a dynamic way. To sum up, what I like the most about this teaching method, is that it is a great way to get out of the routine and the regular teaching activities.

In conclusion, it has been proved that the methodology is effective and that it helps to develop the learners in different aspects, as a teacher it is important to improve and not always use the same routine.
