Propagation Care Tips with Desert Botanical Garden

Aftercare for Okra Seeds

1. Position the pot in an area that receives partial to full sunlight.

2. Maintain moisture in the pot until the seeds have germinated; daily watering may be necessary.

3. Once the seedlings have emerged, continue watering daily until they reach a height of two to three inches.

4. When the seedlings grow to around four inches, transfer pots directly to a raised garden bed or a larger pot. The pots are decomposable.

5. Ensure your okra plants receive full to partial sunlight.

6. Use organic fertilizer, such as fish emulsion, to nourish the seedlings.

7. Water once a week during the summer. Do not water if you get rainfall.

8. Expect flowering and fruiting to occur within approximately 40 to 60 days.

9. Harvest okra when they are small (2 to 4 inches) for optimal tenderness, as larger fruits can become tough and stringy over time.

Aftercare for Sweet Potatoes

1. Place the cutting or slip in a spot that receives partial to full sunlight.

2. Ensure the cup remains filled with water until roots begin to form.

3. Roots should start to develop within one to two weeks.

4. Once the slip has established roots, transplant it directly into a raised garden bed or container. Water it immediately after planting.

5. Water the plant once a week during the summer months, but skip watering if it rains.

6. Sweet potatoes can be harvested after a period of 100 to 140 days.
