NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS COLLEGE

SATURDAY, MAY 2

UNT COLISEUM | DENTON, TEXAS

Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell

Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell has dedicated her life to public service and community leadership across Denton County for more than three decades. She has served as Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3 since 2000, following her tenure as Mayor of Lewisville from 1993 to 2000 and as a member of the Lewisville City Council.

Throughout her distinguished career, Commissioner Mitchell has held numerous leadership roles at the local, regional, and state levels. Her service includes appointments to the North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Board, where she has served multiple terms and as President, as well as leadership within the Conference of Urban Counties, where she served as Chairman. She has also contributed to transportation, emergency preparedness, and policy committees, demonstrating a deep commitment to regional collaboration and effective governance.

In addition to her public office, Commissioner Mitchell has been actively engaged in a wide range of community organizations, including the United Way of Denton County, Rotary Clubs, the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and multiple advisory boards supporting children, families, and behavioral health initiatives. Her dedication to service extends to mentoring youth and supporting programs that strengthen communities across the region.

A proud alumna of North Central Texas College, Commissioner Mitchell was honored with the F.M. Hemphill Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017, the institution’s highest recognition for former students. Her numerous accolades also include the Lewisville Citizen of the Year, United Way’s Dr. Bettye Myers Humanitarian Award, and the Texas Woman’s University Distinguished Public Service Award.

Commissioner Mitchell retired from GTE after 20 years in management and has continued to lead with integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of others. A longtime resident of Lewisville, she is the proud mother of two children, grandmother of nine, and great-grandmother of several, and remains deeply rooted in her faith and community.

The commencement program reflects the name and degrees and certificates of each preliminary degree candidate as well as the honors designation based on the previous semester’s progress. Conferral of the official North Central Texas College degrees and certificates occur after commencement when final grades are posted and all degree requirements have been met. The program only lists those candidates who applied by the appropriate deadline. Therefore, this program should not be considered an official list of graduates.
