Being serious about your future includes room for having fun along the way. Your Daytona State education goes well beyond coursework. Through our student clubs and activities, you can make friends, explore new passions, and develop leadership skills that will pay benefits for the rest of your life. With more than 50 clubs and organizations to choose from, we have something for everyone. Interested in community service and policy making? Our Student Government Association serves as the liaison between students, faculty, and the administration, is directly involved in the College policy making process, and members volunteer with community projects locally and statewide. Want to expand your network? Many of our academic disciplines support their own clubs and organizations. We host a vibrant theater arts program and offer a variety of intramural sports, including flag football, soccer, and surfing. Ready to see the world? Join other students on a study abroad excursion. The L. Gale Lemerand Student Center The L. Gale Lemerand Student Center, which opened in 2019, has quickly become the heart of the Daytona Beach Campus and the center of student life. One of the most popular spots is Mori’s Café, where you can grab a quick muffin or beverage before heading to class. Need a little more variety? The dining hall just a few steps away offers made-to-order sandwiches, pizza, soup, salads and much more.

Need a place to study? The Center has private and group study rooms on all three floors and conference rooms are available by reservation. It is also home to the Library, Writing Center, Computer Lab and Academic Support Center. And specialists in Career Services are on hand to help you find the perfect match with employers looking to hire DSC students and alumni.

Ready to unwind? Take a break on the second floor, which is outfitted with foosball and ping pong tables, along with a video game lounge with Xbox, PlayStation and Switch consoles available for students by reservation.

Residence Hall

Live on Campus! One of the most rewarding experiences for new college students is living on campus and being part of a close-knit, vibrant community in the heart of Daytona State College. The brand-new Student Residence Hall welcomed its first residents in Fall 2022 and DSC is taking reservations now for the upcoming school year.

Rooming options include Double Suites (four people), Single Suites (two people) and Private Single Suites (one person). Rooms come furnished with XL twin beds, dressers, desks and chairs along with a mini-fridge and microwave. Each floor has its own study area, laundry facilities and vending area, and utilities and housekeeping are included.

Your Falcon Life:

Relaxation & Wellness Café 101

Café 101 – tucked into the Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary Management on the Daytona Beach Campus – rivals the finest restaurants in Central Florida and you can experience it for only $11 a meal. Your chefs are DSC students getting hands-on experience under the watchful eyes of chef instructors. Vegetarian meals are available, and reservations are a must. Café 101 is a multi-course dining experience not to be missed.

Cosmetology & Barber Salons

DSC students wanting to look good on a budget need look no further than the Cosmetology Salons on the Daytona Beach and Deltona campuses. All work is performed by DSC cosmetology and barbering students under the supervision of licensed cosmetology instructors. Men’s haircuts start at $5, and women’s cut and styles start at $10.

Dental Hygiene Clinic

If you want your teeth to be healthy and need a cleaning or X-rays, consider taking advantage of the Dental Hygiene Clinic at DSC’s DeLand Campus. The Clinic offers low-cost services provided by dental students under a dentist’s supervision.

Massage Clinic

The Massage Therapy Student Clinic provides a 50-minute wellness massage under faculty supervision. Students receive valuable hands-on experience while clients enjoy the benefits of therapeutic massage. The cost is $21 per session.

FPO

L. Gale Lemerand Athletic Center

Improve your mind, body and spirit at the Lemerand Athletic Center. The facility houses the Aquatic and Fitness Centers and is home to the Falcons’ 1,000-seat gymnasium. Student memberships start at $45 for four months.

Fitness Center

Our 5,500 square-foot center provides a clean, comfortable, and inclusive workout space for people at all stages of their fitness journey. Amenities include: • Group classes, including Sculpt & Tone, Cardio Cross Training, and Yoga • Fitness evaluations • A 19-piece resistance training circuit • An “aerobic arena” featuring elliptical trainers, spinning bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, Airdynes and equipment for the physically challenged

Aquatic Center

The Aquatic Center features an indoor, climate-controlled 25-yard by 25-meter competition pool Amenities include: • Certified lifeguard on duty at all times • Handicap accessible • Designed to accommodate instructional, recreational, and competitive activities • Lap swimming is always available

Your Falcon Life: The Arts

Daytona State College is committed to providing our students and community with high quality entertainment and educational experiences, and has a wide range of opportunities for you to get involved. We offer performance-oriented classes in theater arts, instrumental music, and choral and vocal music (including ensemble and private lessons). You can audition for concert choir, the show choir, plays, dance and instrumental music ensembles that host performances throughout the year. Scholarships are available for students who perform on stage, backstage and in the classroom.

DSC’s News-Journal Center

The News-Journal Center located in downtown Daytona Beach on the banks of the Halifax River, hosts guest performers, art exhibits and a broad variety of performances by DSC’s talented student and faculty artists. Admission is free at most events at the College and News-Journal Center when you present your DSC ID card. The Center is also home to our Music Production Technology program, where students work with award-winning faculty and high-profile guest speakers at this hands-on, state-of-the-art recording facility.

Kimberly Ball Museum of Photography

The Southeast Museum of Photography is among America’s premier museums devoted entirely to the art of photography. Since opening in 1992, the museum has mounted more than 300 exhibitions and produced more than 40 catalogs and publications. It presents more than 12 exhibitions annually, organized around changing interdisciplinary themes. Each semester, SMP presents films, lectures, seminars, workshops, and professional classes. Public programs feature internationally known photographers, critics, writers, and scholars. The museum also produces materials for college and high school classes in conjunction with each exhibition. The museum offers Daytona State students extensive opportunities for internships and professional training, as well as paid and volunteer employment. You can gain career experience as a student assistant, intern, volunteer gallery guide or tour docent. Kimberly Ball received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Daytona State more than 20 years ago but has returned to the college to pursue her true passion – and share it with others – teaching dance as part of the Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment, & Art. “Dance has filled my life with so much happiness,” she said. It has afforded me the opportunity to create, express and communicate in a way the spoken word cannot. “It truly is a universal language, and it has the power to connect and bring people together.” Her goal as an Adjunct Professor is to create a safe place where students feel welcome and empowered to learn, grow, and express themselves through movement. As she builds the dance program, her desire is to offer an increasing variety of dance genres and more opportunities to perform.

Your Falcon Life: Athletics

Daytona State Falcon athletics carry a winning tradition on the field and in the classroom. Our teams consistently earn state and national recognition for academic achievement, and more than 90 percent of our student-athletes transfer to a university with full or partial athletic scholarships. Our sports facilities include the Lemerand Athletic Center, a competition-size indoor pool, two playing fields, a field house, and a soccer stadium.

Ariana Wilson & Hannah Henn Falcon Athletics past-year highlights • Men’s Cross Country won the NJCAA Region 8 Championship and coach Judy Wilson was named Region 8 Coach of the Year. • Women’s Golf earned NJCAA Runners Up. • Women’s Soccer placed 2nd in the NJCAA Region 8. Lucia Guemes was named Region 8 Goalkeeper of the Year and Wakaba Kogure was named Region 8 Freshman of the Year. Coach Hope Clark was named Region 8 Coach of the Year. • Men’s Soccer placed 1st in the NJCAA Region 8. Steven Fikula was named Region 8 Player of the Year and Emmanuel Denis was named Region 8 Freshman of the Year. • Women’s Volleyball placed 3rd in the Suncoast Conference. • Men’s Basketball placed 1st in the Central Conference and Jacob Crews was named Conference Player of the Year. • 9 student-athletes finished the year with First Team Conference honors. • 15 student-athletes finished with All-Region 8 honors.

Academics • 87 Falcon student-athletes earned NJCAA Academic All- American honors, including 26 first-team awards for a perfect 4.0 GPA. • 129 of 197 (65%) DSC athletes earned Mid-Florida Conference Academic All-Conference honors. • 108 of 197 (55%) DSC athletes earned All-FCSAA Academic honors.

Ariana (left) and Hannah (right) came to Daytona State not knowing anyone and having only one thing in common— Falcon Athletics. They started as roommates and became best friends, enjoying not only DSC’s amenities, but also the surrounding Daytona Beach/ Central Florida area. “We bonded immediately and have basically been inseparable since day one. We were either shopping, going out to eat, at the beach, or working out at the school gym,” remarked Hannah. Ariana agreed. “We both at first didn’t like to cook, so we started cooking meals together.”

They both played for the Women’s Soccer team and are majoring in Criminal Justice. Hannah has transitioned to Barry University in Miami Shores. Ariana is continuing her schooling here and is still playing for the soccer team. She summed it up: “I chose Daytona because the team atmosphere was amazing and had everything I wanted, as well as excellent academics.” 17

New Programs New Bachelor of Science in Cardiopulmonary Science Daytona State offers an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Cardiopulmonary Science degree that can be taken fully online, with options for in-person class meetings on the Daytona Beach Campus, beginning in Fall 2023.

New Concentrations within the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management degree: BAS Project Management Concentration The BAS Project Management Concentration prepares students with training in management theory, strategic and operational decision making, risk management, scheduling and logistics and management information systems. BAS Human Resources Management Concentration Human resources manages the employee lifecycle in an organization and DSC’s BAS Human Resources Concentration covers everything a student needs, including recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits, employment law and organizational behavior. BAS Supply Chain Management Concentration The BAS Supply Chain Management Concentration prepares students for sourcing management, supply chain design, performance, technologies, trends, issues, and opportunities, as well as classes on forecasting, warehousing, inventory management, globalization and outsourcing, logistics and information technology. BAS Healthcare Management Concentration The BAS Healthcare Management Concentration prepares students for careers in healthcare and includes courses on U.S. healthcare systems, health services administration, healthcare revenue cycle management and quality management and process improvement.

AS in Criminal Justice

The program covers the roles and functions of law enforcement, the courts, the correctional system, and juvenile justice system. Students will also be exposed to theories of crime, criminal justice policy and constitutional law.

Audio Electronics Specialist, AS Certificate

Students will gain skills in setting up and configuring computers for audio applications and operating basic audio recording and reproduction systems. This program is ideal for those working in the industry looking to expand their skillset. 20

1 Year or less Certificate Programs

Get started on a new career with specialized training you can finish in one year or less. Our certificate programs help you gain entry-level employment in a wide variety of fields. Certificate (college credit) and applied technology diploma credits can also be applied toward an Associate of Science degree as you continue your path to greater career opportunities.

2 Years Associate Degrees

A two-year associate degree from Daytona State College gives you the fundamental skills that apply to an even broader range of career opportunities. Depending on the program, earning an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree allows you to apply for higher paying jobs immediately, or continue your studies and transition into one of our 12 bachelor’s degree programs in supervision and management, accounting, engineering, information technology, education, or nursing. An Associate of Arts degree is also your key to transferring to a four-year university.

4 Years Bachelor’s Degree

Our bachelor’s degrees are based on a ”2+2” model, meaning you earn your associate degree in the first two years and transition to upper-level baccalaureate studies during your junior and senior years. Many of our bachelor’s degree students participate in internships and cooperative education opportunities while in school. It’s why a majority of our four-year graduates land jobs in their field within three months and have an average starting salary of $58,008.

Daytona State’s Quanta-Honors College is a learning community designed to offer an alternative to regular college classes for highly motivated students who value academic achievement and want the competitive advantage that an honors degree provides.

DirectConnect to UCF

Daytona State AA and select AS degree program students have a clear path to transfer to the University of Central Florida through the nationally recognized DirectConnect to UCF program. DirectConnect guarantees admission to UCF for AA graduates and so much more.

2 + 2 Univeristy of Florida

DSC’s Quanta-Honors College and Stetson’s University Honors Program have partnered to overcome academic and financial barriers to completing an honors bachelor’s degree from Stetson University.

FAMU IGNITE

The IGNITE Program guarantees a student general admission to FAMU after completing their Associate of Arts degree from DSC.

New College of Florida

Eligible DSC Associate of Arts graduates are guaranteed admission to New College of Florida (Sarasota) with this 2+2 agreement.

Online and On Time More than 11,000 Daytona State students enroll in online courses every year and our online program offerings have been rated the most affordable in the nation for in-state students. Our online bachelor’s degrees in Supervision and Management, Engineering Technology and Information Technology have been rated among the nation’s best for seven years running and, in many cases, you can earn a degree or certificate—including an Associate of Arts university transfer degree—with few or no campus visits. Workforce Skilled Trades Programs Daytona State’s School of Workforce offers intensive short-term training to help you quickly access the workforce with a highly marketable skill set sought by local and regional employers. Most programs take one year or less to complete.

Apprenticeship Programs

Shannon Bidgood

Our apprenticeship programs allow you to learn while you earn. You will have the opportunity to work full- or part-time with skilled professionals while attending in-class training. We have apprenticeship programs with the following organizations: • Mid-Florida Electrical Non-union Apprenticeship Committee, GNJ • Electrical Training Alliance of Daytona Beach • Electrical Union Apprenticeship, JATC Program • Plumbing Apprenticeship Committee Local 295, Plumbers and Pipefitters If you already have some work experience, you may be eligible to apply for up to 23 credits that can be applied toward an Associate of Science in Industrial Management Technology degree, further increasing your marketability to employers. All of our workforce programs are designed to be affordable, flexible, and tailored to address existing and future market requirements. We also have a number of scholarship and financial aid options to cover part or all of your training.

Before selecting Daytona State College’s School of Cosmetology and Barbering, Shannon did her research. “The Cosmetology program had excellent online reviews and a great reputation among those who attended here,” Shannon said. “Cost was also something I needed to be mindful of because I’m self-paying. DSC had the best tuition costs of all the schools I researched.” Shannon moved from Ocala to Daytona Beach in 2021 to be with her boyfriend, who, she says has been a “huge factor” in supporting her educational journey. She has been very satisfied with the Cosmetology program and the College overall. “The classroom experience has been very informative and hands-on,” she said. “The instructors have been incredibly supportive. The campus is beautiful. The cafeteria is state-of-the-art and very clean. Everyone always seems pleasant and happy to assist. It’s been quite a lovely experience.”

Applying for financial aid is not as complicated as you might think and Daytona State’s Financial Aid Office is here to help you explore options to cover the cost of your education. In general, aid falls into two categories, academic- and need-based. Many forms of financial aid—particularly grants and scholarships—do not require you to take on any debt (so long as you continue to meet the requirements for the aid during your studies). The first step in the process is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Federal government uses the FAFSA to assess what federal aid you qualify for, such as Pell Grants. The application is free, doesn’t affect your credit score and doesn’t commit or obligate you to anything. It does require some documentation, including one or more tax returns, bank statements, your Social Security number and, depending on your situation, possibly some additional information.

Scholarships: Daytona State offers several types of scholarships including academic and athletic scholarships. In addition to Foundation scholarships, Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarships are available as well to qualified students. Most types of grants, unlike loans, are sources of financial aid that generally do not have to be repaid. Loans: Student loans help finance a college education by borrowing funds at a low interest rate. When Victoria Ayodele began looking for a college where she could pursue a career in Information Technology, two key criteria were that it had to be affordable, and it had to be close to home. “I chose Daytona State College because of the financial benefits of staying local,” she said. “After God, my family is closest to my heart. I could continue to live at home, saving on rent and bills.” Victoria was also impressed with the range of support services available to students to support them while pursing their education and when preparing to enter the job market. “Student Employment gives students the opportunity to get a work-study job on campus,” she said. “And the Writing Center helps students with cover letters, recommendation letters and so much more.” Victoria took advantage of DSC’s Academic Support Center for help with her studies and was awarded a Presidential Excellence scholarship as a student ambassador. 31

In partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, DSC hosts a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program that prepares students to become officers in the U.S. Military. Academic & Career Advising

Academic advisors are ready to help you from the day you first enroll in classes and all the way through graduation. They’ll ensure you choose classes most appropriate for your major and help you stay on track, so you graduate on schedule. Our career advisors are available to help you find a job while you’re at DSC (“earn while you learn”), when you graduate, and any time in the future because our services are available to DSC alumni.

Counseling & Accessibility Services

We understand that life’s pressures can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our licensed counselors are available to discuss adjustment to college, family concerns, lack of motivation, depression, and much more. They’re available on all campuses on a walkin basis or by appointment. Counseling & Accessibility Services (CAS) provides students with disabilities equal access and equal opportunity to classes, educational programs, and activities. Advisors work with students individually

to determine the appropriate accommodations and support services each student is eligible to receive. Contact CAS prior to enrollment to arrange for any accommodations.

Academic Support Center

The Academic Support Center offers free in-person and online tutoring, test prep, computer labs and study lounges on all campuses to ensure you have access to the personalized help and resources you need to succeed.

Library Services

Daytona State’s libraries at the Daytona Beach and DeLand campuses house thousands of print titles (all of which can be delivered to any campus). Our extensive online system offers 24/7 access to millions of e-books, streaming videos, and full text articles. We also have librarians available in person, by phone or online chat during regular business hours to help with your inquiries and research.

Laura Herrera The Writing Center

The Writing Center offers highly individualized help with your writing —any subject, and at any stage of the writing process. Whether it’s for an essay, speech, scholarship application, test prep, personal writing or digital communication project, our free service will help you develop your strength as a communicator and writer.

The Falcon HOPE Center

The Falcon HOPE Center provides self-esteem building seminars, networking opportunities, group and individual counseling, jobreadiness activities and family involvement and support services. Through various programs, qualified students may be eligible to receive financial assistance with tuition, books, uniforms, and childcare while gaining marketable skills and attaining economic self-sufficiency through high-wage vocational training at the college. You also will find assistance such as emergency bus passes, a clothes closet to help you look your best on job interviews, a Grab ‘n’ Go Food Pantry, a lending library and Fresh Start classes. Single parents, displaced homemakers, and non-traditional students are encouraged to visit.

Laura Herrera moved to Daytona Beach nine years ago, but for her entire life she’s felt the call to public service. “I had a desire to further my education and pursue a career where I would be able to help people,” she said. “I didn’t know where to even begin until I met with Fresh Start. They simplified the whole process.” DSC’s Fresh Start program is designed specifically to provide students with support and encouragement, while offering practical tools for success in achieving their academic and personal goals. Laura went on to receive her Emergency Medical Technician diploma in 2017 and her Firefighter certificate in 2019. She now serves in both roles with the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department. Her next goals are to complete her Paramedic certificate, earn an Associate of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services, and open a non-profit to help survivors of domestic violence. 35

English Language Institute Daytona State College’s English Language Institute (ELI) offers English language instruction tailored to help students achieve their academic and professional goals. Designed with international students and non-native speakers in mind, the Institute offers two program options: Intensive English Program (IEP) – A 20-hour per week, non-credit, immersive program designed to strengthen students’ language skills for personal enrichment or academic preparation. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) – A 12-credit hour pathway designed to transition students into Daytona State College’s degree programs. Both programs are available on the Daytona Beach Campus and are taught by faculty with specialized training and credentials for English language instruction to non-native speakers. Students have full access to college support services, including the Academic Support Center and the Writing Center. Students are also provided with opportunities to practice their English skills in a fully immersive environment through participation in College-sponsored arts and cultural events, intramural sports and more than 50 campus clubs and organizations like the Global Friends Club.

Veterans Services The Veterans Services Office provides resources, tools and assistance to student veterans and eligible dependents who aim to further their education. Assistance includes guidance in VA education benefit programs, the application process for new students, certification process, requests for change of program or place of training, student responsibilities, deferments, and more. Applying for Veterans Administration Educational Assistance Daytona State College is an approved institution for veterans training. Those eligible for Veterans Administration benefits must be certified through DSC’s Veterans Services Office before they can begin receiving benefits. Eligible students must also meet DSC admission requirements. You should start your application for VA benefits as soon as possible, as approval can take as long as 90 days.
