June 25–September 11, 2022 Art for the Ages is a DAI-exclusive exhibition that takes a close look at how conservation protects art for future generations.

It lifts the curtain on work, often hidden from public view but essential to the DAI’s mission, that integrates cutting-edge science and exacting craft. Presenting rarely displayed works, as well as favorites seen in a new light, this exhibition includes a variety of objects made from many different materials and representing diverse time periods and cultures.

It highlights how artworks, like humans, are material things vulnerable to wear and accidents across the course of time. Their life is not guaranteed, but conservation is constantly developing new means to preserve them and, in turn, enrich our lives and those that follow after us.

FIRED IMAGINATION: ANCIENT CHINESE CERAMICS FROM THE NANCY AND ED ROSENTHAL FAMILY COLLECTION On view until July 24, 2022 This DAI-exclusive exhibition traces the history of ceramics in China. These works give us insights into the daily life and fashions of different periods in Chinese history. Ranging from figures to vessels and spanning almost 4,000 years, explore how the art evolved over time.

VAN GOGH & EUROPEAN LANDSCAPES On view until September 4, 2022

A remarkable pair of paintings by Vincent van Gogh are on loan from Europe and are the center of a look at European landscapes. This DAIexclusive exhibition also includes works by Daubigny, Corot, Turner, Constable and others.

THE FLOWER PRINTS OF KATSUHIRA TOKUSHI On view until September 18, 2022 Discover the work of Katsuhira Tokushi (1904– 1971) through a complete set of his series Twelve Works on Flower Selling Customs (1959).

From a family of plasterers and papermakers, Tokushi was largely a self-taught artist. His works feature scenes of traditional rural life in Akita, a prefecture in the far north of Japan.

PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR (1872–1906): A TRIBUTE On view until September 4, 2022 Dayton, Ohio, was home to acclaimed American poet, novelist and lyricist Paul Laurence Dunbar. This exhibition showcases artists’ responses to Dunbar, his life and work, and is part of the Ohio-wide celebration of the 150th anniversary of Dunbar’s birth.
