Deep River Democrats Win the Day By Christian Maldonado Staff Writer
Deep River saw the only contested race at the top of the ballot, which may have been a reason for the amount of voters the town saw in this most recent municipal election. In 2023, Deep River saw 1,744 registered voters make their voices heard at the polls, creating
a 53% voter turnout. This year, 1,889 voters showed up to the polls, including same-day and early voting, creating a 57.4% election turnout, one of the highest in the region. Deep River Democratic Town Committee member Matt Forte said that the increase in voter turnout, while surprising, is very welcome. “You can see that it has been a very steady
turnout for this election throughout the day,” he said. “It has honestly been greater than we expected.” This may have to do with the six contested races on the ballot, including first selectman, Assessment Appeals Board, Ethics Commission and two Ethics Commission alternates,
