Cohen to Challenge Lignar in Chester Primary By Christian Maldonado Staff Writer CHESTER
With municipal elections approaching this November, Chester Democrats will know their nominee for First Selectman before then. Resident Joe Cohen has announced he will challenge incumbent Cynthia Lignar in the Sept. 9 Democratic primary, with the
winner advancing unopposed in November. Cohen, who has lived in Chester since 1987, said his decision to run came after residents urged him to enter the race. He had been an outspoken critic of the proposed cell tower at 16 Grote Road and said his public comments drew encouragement from neighbors. “One lady came up to me, almost with
tears in her eyes, and said, ‘You have to run,’” he said. “I told her at first that I was not going to run, but after going home and thinking about it… I decided that I was going to.” Taxes are among Cohen’s top concerns. “A thing that just jumps out to me See Cohen to Challenge page 5
