Neck River Elementary Ready for Sept. 1 By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer MADISON
With the snip of ceremonial scissors on Aug. 19, Madison officially marked the opening of Neck River Elementary School, a stateof-the-art facility that will welcome 650 students from pre-kindergarten through grade 5 this fall.
Town officials, education leaders, and building consultants gathered at the school’s entrance to celebrate the milestone, offer remarks, and tour the modern educational campus. First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons called the project a “very significant milestone in our town’s history,” representing the culmination of “many tenacious years of community
engagement, investigation, exploration and analysis.” She commended town officials and volunteers for their persistence in navigating financial and market challenges to bring the project to life. “Most importantly,” Lyons added, “I want See Neck River Elementary page 13

Record Run Ben Szuhaj, center, glances at a fellow runner at the start of the Killingworth Road Race on Aug. 23. Szuhaj won the certified 4-mile race in a course-record time of 20:56. Kaila Lujambio of Coventry was the fastest female finisher at 28:38, and Cameron Hines posted the top time among Killingworth residents at 27:07. The annual race, which starts and ends at the Congregational Church in Killingworth, supports local charities.
