State Awards Madison $43,694 for Special Education Staff Report
Madison will receive $43,694 in state funding to strengthen in-district special education services as part of the first round of grants awarded through Connecticut’s new High-Quality Special Education Incentive Grant Program. Gov. Ned Lamont and Connecticut Educa-
tion Commissioner Charlene M. RussellTucker announced Aug. 17 that 41 special education programs across the state will share $10.6 million through the competitive grant program. The program is intended to help local and regional boards of education build or expand in-district and regional special education services, with the goal of supporting students
with disabilities closer to home and reducing reliance on out-of-district placements. Madison’s $43,694 award is designated for programming costs. No capital improvement funding was included in the town’s award. State Senator Christine Cohen welcomed the funding, which also included $166,500 for
