Selectmen Support Microtransit Funding By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer

The Connecticut General Assembly passed Senate Bill No. 9 just before adjournment this year, paving the way for $10.5 million in state funding for microtransit services, including the regional Xtramile bus service used in Madison and Guilford.

Before the bill’s legislative approval, Madison First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons and Guilford First Selectman Matt Hoey spoke before the Connecticut General Assembly on April 27 to voice support for state funding for microtransit services that have provided transportation benefits for residents in their towns. The town leaders traveled to Hartford

specifically to support the bill, whose language states the intention “to provide funding for on-demand microtransit services in the state.” One of those services includes Xtramile, an on-demand ride-share pilot program used by multiple demographics in Madison and Guilford. But after two years,
