Osprey Relocation Effort a Learning Opportunity By Zachary Halas Special to Shore Publishing
A collaborative effort among wildlife advocates, engineers, and town officials has allowed for the safe relocation of an osprey nest at Walsh Intermediate School in Branford, creating a new educational opportunity for students.
“Really proud that I was a part of this team,” said Alex Palluzzi Jr., an incoming member of the town’s Board of Education. “Giordano Construction has always given back to this town.” New safe deterrents were placed on the top of the field lights on the Walsh track field to deter ospreys from creating their nests on top of them.
Carolyn Sires, who has been working on the osprey project and is part of a group called TTED that has been helping create and enhance nesting places for the birds, said deterrents are placed with wide brackets to withstand high winds. “Birds will not be able to build a nest on See Osprey Relocation page 7
Wind, Rain Down Pole Rain and strong winds took down a tree Friday, Dec. 19, which then took down power lines and a utility pole on Leetes Island Road near the Guilford-Branford border, blocking traffic. A wind advisory was in effect for southern Connecticut.
