Nicol Takes Helm as Town Manager By Eric O'Connell Staff Writer

In June, North Branford’s Town Council formally hired Dr. Scott Nicol as the town’s new town manager. Nicol began the job July 1 and recently sat down with The Sound to introduce himself. At its June meeting, the Town Council unanimously voted to appoint Nicol as town

manager at an annual salary of $160,000. Nicol succeeds former Town Manager Michael Downes, who left the position in January to join the Connecticut Senate Republican Office. Assistant Town Manager Rory Burke served as acting town manager until Nicol’s appointment. According to the position description on the town’s website, the town manager is

Sisters Evelyn and Josephine Swartz spot a monarch butterfly inside a live butterfly sanctuary exhibit beside the pollinator garden on the Branford Town Green. They visited the exhibit on July 26 with their parents, Kim and Kyle Swartz. The exhibit teaches visitors about monarch butterfly conservation.
