a letter from Chamber President
DEE JACOB
Welcome to the Shoreline Chamber, representing Branford, Guilford, and North Branford.
This beautiful area is a unique blend of rolling farmlands, beautiful beaches, historic greens, and lovely neighborhoods with great access to businesses and nonprofits. Our small towns will quickly feel like home. Located between Boston and New York, and just down the road from New Haven, the Shoreline Region is a great place to dine, shop, live and do business. We are blessed to have so many types of businesses ranging from retail to hospitality, service to manufacturing, biotech to farms, breweries to theatre and galleries. Our nonprofits are strong and multiplying to serve the needs of the community.
The Shoreline Chamber works tirelessly to support its members in Branford, Guilford, and North Branford, however 20% of our membership extends east to Old Saybrook, north to Hartford, and west to Milford! We support businesses and nonprofits of all sizes. We are memberled and member-driven and design our market-driven access programs and activities to meet both the unique and common needs of our membership. At the same time, we are communitydriven, supporting key events in our towns: the Branford Festival, the Potato and Corn Festival, and the Guilford Fair. We support our town merchant groups and other community groups as needed.
Our first community directory is designed to be a handy reference for you in the coming year, whether new to the area or a long-time resident. We have included information in three separate sections by town. We hope this guide will encourage you to explore our beautiful towns.
Best Wishes, Dee Jacob, President
a letter from Chamber Chairperson DENISE DAVIAU

I truly believe that strong businesses build stronger communities. I look forward to the opportunity to be a part of this collaborative and positive environment. We encourage everyone to see what the Chamber has to offer: three great towns, one strong business community!
Kind regards, Denise Daviau, Board Chair

We are proud of our vibrant economy, diverse business base, state-of-the-art municipal services, outstanding school system, and unrivaled quality of life. We are more than a business-friendly town. We make an extra effort to help commerce and industry succeed and grow. Ours is a strong economy with a healthy balance of retail, commercial, and industrial businesses that include advanced manufacturing, biotech, aerospace, and healthcare. GUILFORD welcome to
message from Guilford First Selectman
MATTHEW T. HOEY III
Atown for all seasons, Guilford is a wonderful place to visit, shop, or live. Various stores, restaurants, museums, and galleries surround our beautiful Town Green. Whether it is boating on Long Island Sound, hiking our open space trails, shopping our quaint stores, or playing a round of golf on one of the top-rated par-3 golf courses in New England, there is something here for everyone. We also take pride in our economic and demographic diversity, quality housing, exceptional school system, public safety services, and community spirit, all of which help make Guilford a special place to live, work, and visit.
Guilford is a vibrant community; we strongly encourage economic development. We are always looking for ways to attract new businesses and work hard to support our current businesses. The completion of several housing and office space projects, as well as others underway, demonstrates Guilford’s attractiveness. Guilford is also fortunate to have skilled and talented residents willing to volunteer on our boards and commissions. Without this volunteerism, this town would not be the strong community it is today.
I want to express my gratitude to the Chamber for supporting the Town of Guilford and for all it does to promote our businesses within the region. The Chamber’s support for events like the Tree Lighting and Sidewalk Sales help bring visitors to our wonderful town. I look forward to working with the Chamber and participating in its various activities, including many sponsored ribbon-cutting events. We are excited to share our quality of life with all visitors, friends, and businesses. We urge you to visit our gem of the shoreline to discover a piece of Connecticut's history and enjoy everything our town offers. Once you visit, you will never want to leave.

what to DO
Guilford offers something for everyone. Begin with the history of Guilford.
Visit the oldest stone house in Connecticut, built in 1639, the Henry Whitfield State Museum on Whitfield Street. As you head back towards the Green, continue onto Boston Street to visit the Hyland House and the Thomas Griswold House, which were converted into museums so visitors could view the old building and items and appliances dating back to the 18th century.
Newly installed at the Guilford train station is a display of historical photographs showing how the trains have been important to Guilford residents since July 1852.
Park your car and enjoy walking along the beautiful Guilford Green. As you walk the Green, stop and read the plaques on the lampposts. You’ll learn more about the history of the Green and Guilford! The Green also honors Guilford residents with monuments from the Civil War to the Spanish-American War, the Soldiers of Guilford in 1941, and Vietnam Veterans. For more history, visit The Dudley Farm in North Guilford.
Looking to enjoy an afternoon of art? Head to the Guilford Arts Center to see its newest exhibit and then stop in its shop to view the works of artisans throughout the state and beyond.
Are you a nature buff? There are so many trails to explore in Guilford, from over thirty-nine trails at Westwoods Trails to the Mattabesett Trail in North Guilford. Enjoy the Chaffinch Island Park with family and friends while kayaking, picnicking, catching fish, or just relaxing with your latest read. Looking for a swim? Guilford offers two beaches: Jacobs Beach on Long Island Sound and freshwater swimming at Lake Quonnipaug.

For many, relaxation is found on the golf course. Guilford is proud to have in its town Guilford Lakes Golf Course, an executive 9-hole course, also known as “Guilford’s Little Augusta.” Lessons and clinics are offered to all ages.
In September, attend the Guilford Fair on the Guilford Fairgrounds. Established in 1859, the Guilford Fair is Connecticut’s 2nd oldest agricultural fair. Held the third full weekend in September each year, there is something for everyone: food, entertainment, rides, crafts, animals, and more. Don’t forget to visit The Woodruff Barn Farm Museum, located on the Guilford
Fairgrounds, displaying much of Guilford’s agricultural history. Adding to the weekend's excitement is the Annual Guilford Fair held on Saturday morning — rain or shine.
For over 140 years, Bishop’s Orchards has been the place to go for fresh fruits and vegetables. Whether strawberry picking in June, apple picking in September, or pumpkin picking in October, you cannot go wrong with Bishop’s pick-your-own orchards. Bishops has expanded to offer live entertainment on summer weekends for families to enjoy and dance to, as well as being part of the Connecticut Wine Trail with their home-grown wine.

The Guilford Green offers an array of shops, and you can plan to spend the day shopping in various stores and boutiques. If you are looking for yourself, your daughter, or your mom, consider Ella… Where She Shops, which offers product lines for all three generations. Ensure you are available to visit Flutterby, offering everything, including clothing for him, her, and the baby, candles, pillows, and body care. Are you still looking for the right gift and do not know where to shop? Consider Evergreen Fine Crafts, which offers an array of different ideas. For the reader, one cannot go wrong with visiting Breakwater
Books. Since 1939, Page’s Hardware & Appliance has been a trusted name in appliances and more. More than a hardware and appliance store, one can easily spend hours browsing the aisles.
