Westbrook Roof Committee Delivers Recommendations to BOS By Eric O'Connell Staff Writer

As budget season approaches, Westbrook’s School Roof Committee has laid out recommendations on how the town should address issues identified in an earlier report on the status each school’s roof. The committee first recommended a $1.2 million overlay project at the middle school in the next fiscal year.

At a Board of Selectmen meeting on Dec. 9, the committee recommended that a new roof overlay be completed at the middle school in the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The project should extend the life of the roof by 20-25 years. The committee also recommended that the town start budgeting money for future roofing projects at the elementary and high schools, as well as for ongoing maintenance work.

The BOS noted the Board of Education will need to finalize requests for the roofing projects during the upcoming budget season. In the latest report the committee told the selectmen that all three school roofs will need to be addressed in the next five to seven years.
