Town Looking to Reestablish Charter Revision Commission By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer
The opportunity has returned to Guilford residents to serve on a revived Charter Revision Commission to look into how to improve municipal procedures. According to First Selectman Matt Hoey, several members of the public already reached out “expressing potential interest in participating” on the commission. The town has been discussing a charter
revision “for quite some time,” said Hoey, while the last effort at revision occurred over a decade ago. “Now,” he said, “it’s time to relook at it.” Per state statute, the commission would consist of anywhere between five and 15 members and be charged by town leadership to investigate a list of possible changes. The commission would take the reins from there. “The commission itself would have the ability to go anywhere they want with the
charter,” said Hoey. “That’s consistent with state statutes, allowing them that kind of flexibility.” The first selectman anticipates the formal establishment of the commission at a Board of Selectmen meeting within the next four to six weeks. The commission’s work will center on how the town will structure meetings over issues
