Dems Dominate Elections, Committees Analyze Results By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer

Large voter turnout in this year’s local elections saw decisive victory for both the Guilford Democrats and the Independent party. The Democratic candidate for first selectman, Matt Hoey, was reelected, and members from both parties now completely occupy seats on two of the town’s most conse-

quential boards in finance and education. Guilford voters reelected the incumbent Hoey for a fifth term. He defeated Republican challenger Jonathan Trotta by a wide margin, 5,318-2,028. Voter turnout in Guilford on Election Day this year was over 45%, according to numbers from the Registrar of Voters. Out of 16,322 registered voters, 7,440 ballots were cast. This is a great jump from the previous

municipal election in 2023, according to the Town Clerk’s office, which saw a voter turnout rate of 21%. “I’m thrilled with the outcome of today’s election, with the overall support for myself and Democratic candidates,” Hoey said in a statement. “This is an affirmation that we’ve been doing for the last eight years and even
