June 14-16, 2024
We welcome everyone back to the Branford Green for the 40th Branford Festival.
This festival unites our community and reunites family and friends every June. Many who attend each year have grown up with the festival and are carrying on the tradition with their own kids.
After months of meetings and planning, the festival starts to take shape the Sunday before, with the hanging of the banners on the town hall. Set up continues throughout the week, right up to the start of the festival at 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Everyone who attends has their “thing” within the festival that brings them back each year. Whether it be the variety of foods to select from, the top-notch music each night, the artisan marketplace on Saturday, the road race on Sunday, or just the chance to catch up with friends and family, it is a weekend to celebrate all things Branford. (This booklet contains the full schedule for this weekend.)
The festival relies on the generosity of our corporate sponsors and residential donors to operate each year. We thank you all for your annual monetary support.
We also thank the Board of Selectman, the Department of Public Works, the Police and Fire departments, and Branford Festival’s corporate board for the guidance and support they provide in running the festival.
Finally, we thank our amazing festival committee for the many months, hours, and days you put into producing Branford’s biggest event every year.
So, let us keep the tradition alive, and have a great weekend everyone.

This belief reflects its diverse music selections and teaching philosophy, which is highly valued and employed by its director, Mike Martone Jr. The choir explores the role of music in diverse cultures and the origins of the music the group learns, hoping to share their love of music by telling a story through songs and inspiring communities with each performance.

This year marks 50 years as a songwriter for Branford native Bob Crelin (also known as BC). His songs reflect life, love, and our changing world. They are imbued with catchy melodies, rocking rhythms, and poetic style. Growing up during the explosion of modern pop music, Bob’s love of ‘hit’ songs began with The Beatles’ U.S. arrival on The Ed Sullivan Show. He grew to appreciate the incredible power of popular music. Bob has found influences in all music genres and drawn inspiration from artists like Todd Rundgren, Dar Williams, and David Bowie.
Bob performed and recorded with a handful of local bands in the 1970s and 1980s and enjoyed local radio airplay with Branford’s Rival. In the 1990s, songs he co-wrote with his band Catwalk found their way to major market rock radio and college station playlists, with feature articles in Billboard magazine and The New York Times. As a solo artist, Bob Crelin has opened for notable artists, including Marshall Crenshaw, blues guitarist Sue Foley, and Jon Herrington of Steely Dan. He continues to perform live, write, and record new material. Watch for the release of new singles in 2024.

Everyone has heard of Batman, Superman and Captain America. But there is one hero better than anyone out there and his name is Ryan Adinolfi my dad. My dad is my hero because he is always by my side like at sports games, school parties and whenever I need a little cheering up. He is the best coach, person and best of all dad. And those are just some reasons why I think my dad should win 2023 Father of the Year award.
My first reason why my dad should be 2023 Father of the Year is because he is always by my side. Funny story when I was at the Pine Orchard Club, someone did a truth or dare, and I was not ready for what they would say. I had to jump in the ocean during the storm (sorry I didn’t tell you there was a storm going on). Ok, so when I was about to do it and then my dad runs over to me and says, “you don’t have to do it, but if you do, I am right here if you need me” And at that moment I new my dad would be there for me no matter what. My second reason why my dad should win the 2023 Father of the Year is because he always volunteers to coach any team I am on and sometimes he is the main coach like this summer he is coaching a summer basketball team with me and my friends. I really hope that my dad can coach are team to a championship but like my dad always says, “it’s better to lose trying then to not try at all”. So no matter what my dad is the better version of LeBron James or Tom Brady or anything in between.
And my third reason why Ryan Adinolfi should win 2023 Father of the Year is because he is kind. For example when we were at a water park with are friends and there was a person with a 4 year old and the poor kid was throwing a fit because he was at the back of the line so then my dad said “it’s the right thing to do and then my dad switched spots in line with the mom and the kid.
And that is why I strongly believe that Ryan Adinolfi should win with the 2023 Father of the Year. He is always by my side, always volunteers to be with me and he is kind and if you have a dad show him as much love as I do.

In 1979, 600 runners lined up for the first Shoreline Road Race (now Branford Road Race/BRR). Thanks to your help, the race has grown into one of the country’s biggest and best running events. Approximately 70,000 participants have participated in BRR events, with hundreds of thousands of dollars distributed to various Branford organizations and charitable groups over the years. Since the first race, held in 1979 at the Branhaven Plaza, the BRR has grown from a small local fun run into the 5-mile Connecticut State Championship. This low-key, non-commercial event has become an integral part of the weekend-long celebration of Branford Festival. In 1979, good friends Ray Figlewski and Dick Wainman started the 7.5-mile Shoreline Road Race, which later became the 5-mile BRR. At this time, running was not a wildly popular sport and most running events were geared toward small groups of serious participants. However, the running boom of the late 1970s was beginning to sweep the country. Inspired by the Olympic successes of marathon runner Frank Shorter and the writings of fitness authors Dr. Kenneth Cooper and George Sheehan, more and more Americans were lacing up their sneakers (they weren’t even called running shoes back then) and taking to the streets. Although the first year was held at the Branhaven
Plaza, Ray and Dick continued to look at ways they could move the race to the Branford Green, which would satisfy one of their goals, to “provide an event that not only weaves through one of the most beautiful shorelines in Connecticut, but also utilizes the historical charm of the Branford Green.” From 1980 until now, the BRR has started and finished on the Town Green. Today the race is five miles. The event also features a 2-mile Health Walk and the 1-mile Family Fun Run. Both the 1-mile and 5-mile races are USATF certified and timed. The reasons behind more than four decades of success are many, but one is pre-eminent: this is an event that enjoys the support from every corner of Branford. From the hundreds of residents who run, volunteer, or sponsor, to the support the race receives from the governing body and the personnel of the police, fire, first aid, and town maintenance departments, this is a town project. These people come together and provide thousands of runners with a friendly and well-managed event. The BRR is known for the fabulous support of thousands of cheering spectators, proving once again that Branford is a special place.
This year’s event offers all participants a food ticket with several food options on race morning. Options include: a continental breakfast courtesy of the event, a pancake breakfast courtesy of the Branford Rotary Club, or an egg sandwich courtesy of the Italian American Club.
The post-race party will once again be hosted at Stony Creek Brewery 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be unlimited beer for all participants 21+ who purchase a ticket. Tickets are available for purchase during online race registration.
Over the years, Branford Road Race has proudly donated thousands of dollars to local nonprofits and community organizations.Over the years, Branford Road Race has proudly donated thousands of dollars to local non-profits and community organizations. This year we will be partnering with the following charities: Branford Community Dining Room, Camp Rising Sun and American Parkinson Disease Association.
