Get ready, Branford – it’s festival time! The Branford Festival Committee can’t wait to welcome you to the Branford Festival, happening Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21. Mark your calendars and come celebrate with us! This beloved annual tradition is a time for neighbors, families, and friends to come together and celebrate everything that makes our community so special.

This year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a wide variety of new activities and attractions for all ages. From live music and entertainment throughout the weekend to expanded food vendors offering delicious local favorites, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We’re also introducing new family-friendly attractions, from a petting zoo to wood carving, artisan vendors will be expanded to include Sunday, and music performances that will keep the energy high from start to finish.

We want to extend a huge thank-you to our incredible volunteers and committee members. Your tireless effort, time, and heart throughout the year are what's going to make this weekend truly shine. We are so grateful for your energy, dedication, and everything you’ve poured into making it such a success.

As I entered my early twenties, I’d realized wow – I get to live in Branford. A town with farmland, forest, marshlands, beach, suburbs, close-by city life, and the most charming little patch of islands to grace the entire East Coast. Well, I had just graduated from college and my appreciation of this big hearted, little town was at a high – and by chance one morning shortly after, still with foggy eyes, I rolled out of bed and made the largest impulse buy of my life to date – I bought a drone. A few days later I took this photo – one of my first photos ever taken and a photo that illuminates just one of the reasons why Branford is as special as it is. Our iconic Thimble Island Channel vibrant with the buzz of jet skis, the splashing of swimmers, and the call of sea birds overhead on a late July day in 2018. A moment that led me to rediscover my own heart. The Branford High School Concert Choir is a mixed choir offered to sophomores through seniors. They have been around for over 40 years, improving the quality of their music with each throughout the duration of that time. The ensemble is predominantly studentled. Section leaders teach the music and the choir officers assist in the planning of events. This group’s goal is to encourage students to be self-sufficient learners while also emphasizing the importance of looking at things from another person’s perspective. This core belief is reflected in their diverse music selections and teaching philosophy, which is highly valued and employed by their director Mike Martone Jr. They explore how music plays

Ethan Griffeth is a folk/country singer-songwriter from Branford, Connecticut whose music blends heartfelt storytelling with warm acoustic melodies inspired by life along the Connecticut shoreline. A regular performer at venues and events across the Shoreline, Ethan has built a local following through intimate live shows and relatable lyrics, mixing original music with familiar favorites to create a laid-back atmosphere perfect for summer evenings by the water. At Branford Fest, he brings his hometown roots to the stage, sharing songs shaped by the same community gathered in front of him.

With a passion for connecting through music, she brings authenticity and energy to every stage she steps on. Veronica is honored to perform the National Anthem at the Branford Fair.

The RumRunners have become one of Connecticut’s most popular cover bands where the party never ends. You will dance the night away and maybe even come up and sing a song with the band!

This is a high energy band with 4-part harmonies covering the best classic and new music out there. the band has an original side as well with some awesome songs added to the performances featuring Sax and keys -its always a good time!

The band was formed by 4 firefighters from New Haven and Milford and the son-in-law and daughter of a retired New Haven firefighter. From the beginning it was decided that we would do what we loved to do and do it for a good cause - whatever that cause may be. Over the years we’ve helped to raise money for dozens of charities

including The American Lung Association, The Connecticut Burn Camp, The Sunshine Kids Camp, Cystic Fibrosis, Breast Cancer Awareness and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, to name just a few. We’ve helped to save the Milford Diner and the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We’ve helped to raise money for local school organizations, music programs, cheerleading teams, local youth sports organizations and sponsored a nursing scholarship in the name of a very dear friend. We are most honored to have always been there to support our friends and community by helping to raise money for countless individuals and their families during their time of need. Although the line-up of players has seen a few changes over the years, we have stayed true to our love of good music and our goal to always lend a hand to a worthy cause.

Connecticut rock veteran and singer songwriter Sal Nunz performs acoustic versions of his latest originals recorded at Horizon Studios.This unplugged set will feature Nunz at his most dynamic, delivering the kind of electrifying performance that has made him a beloved fixture in the regional music landscape. Nunz brings an impressive pedigree to each performance, having been a driving force in Connecticut’s music scene since the 1980s. His musical journey includes notable collaborations, most memorably his work with Bobby Mitchell in the acclaimed duo Hot Tin Roof during the ’80s. Fire & Knives is a 4-piece rock and roll band hailing from the CT/NY areas. This dynamic group has been making waves along the Shoreline for several years, captivating audiences with their unique blend of rock ’n’ roll classics spanning multiple decades and genres.

Fire & Knives boasts dual lead vocals and guitars, perfectly complemented by a solid rhythm section of drums and bass. This classic rock ’n’ roll formula has earned them numerous local appearances, private events, and even occasional town festivals.

The band’s members come from well-known CT original setups, including The Boardlords and The Jaws, bringing a wealth of experience and talent to the stage. With their powerful

contribute to several prominent local acts, including the Red Hill Rockers, Start Me Up, and Black Kites, each showcasing different facets of his musical personality.

DANCING DREAM: The Tribute to ABBA, the greatest pop supergroup from Sweden that ruled the music world in the ‘70s and it still holds the title of one of the best pop groups in the world ever. Dancing Dream from New York City pays the tribute to the legendary Swedish group honoring their legacy.

Every show electrifies audiences of all ages with the best hits “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,”“Take a Chance,”“Fernando,” and many more. The New York City based touring tribute act was founded by two European singers in 2009 in hopes of transporting nostalgic audiences back to the happy and groovy times of the 70s.

Because of the rise in popularity of both the movie and broadway play Mamma Mia, DANCING DREAM was able to do just that! Since then, they have been invited tomany summer concerts across the country attracting audiences of all age groups. The same year they had formed, they were featured on The Colbert Report withcomedian Stephen Colbert which had placed them on the map for top tribute acts in their country! This opportunity had also helped them land gigs in large venues all acrossthe nation.

Since then, the band has toured Florida with performances in theaters, colleges andpopular clubs as well as outdoor concerts and Scandinavian festivals in California, North Dakota, New York and New Jersey. They also perform often in New York casinos (Empire Casino and Resorts World Casino) and famous clubs (BB King’s) in Times Square NYC. Many concert venues and theaters across the country are featuring the band on regular basis.

ANNUAL ROAD RACE

Race History

In 1979, 600 runners lined up for the first Shoreline Road Race (now Acrisure Branford Road Race/BRR). Thanks to your help, the race has grown into one of the country’s biggest and best running events. Nearly 100,000 participants have participated in BRR events, with hundreds of thousands of dollars distributed to various Branford organizations and charitable groups over the years. Since the first race, held in 1979 at the Branhaven Plaza, the BRR has grown from a small local fun run into the 5-mile Connecticut State Championship. This low-key, non-commercial event has become an integral part of the weekend-long celebration of Branford Festival. In 1979, good friends Ray Figlewski and Dick Wainman started the 7.5-mile Shoreline Road Race, which later became the 5-mile BRR. At this time, running was not a wildly popular sport, and most running events were geared toward small groups of serious participants. However, the running boom of the late 1970s was beginning to sweep the country. Inspired by the Olympic successes of marathon runner Frank Shorter and the writings of fitness authors Dr. Kenneth Cooper and George Sheehan, more and more Americans were lacing up their sneakers (they weren’t even called running shoes back then) and taking to the streets. Although the first year was held at the Branhaven Plaza, Ray and Dick continued to look at ways they could move the race to the Branford Green, which would satisfy one of their goals, to “provide an event that not only weaves through one of the most beautiful shorelines in Connecticut, but also utilizes the historical charm of the Branford Green.” From 1980 until 2025, the BRR started and finished on the Town Green. Today the race is five miles. The event also features a 2-mile Health Walk and the 1-mile Mark Gilhuly Family Fun Run. Both the 1-mile and 5-mile races are USATF certified and timed. The reasons behind more than four decades of success are many, but one is pre-eminent: This is an event that enjoys the support from every corner of Branford. From the hundreds of residents who run, volunteer, or sponsor to the support the race receives from the governing body and the personnel of the police, fire, first aid, and town maintenance departments, this is a town project. These people come together and provide thousands of runners with a friendly and well-managed event. The BRR is known for the fabulous support of thousands of cheering spectators, proving once again that Branford is a special place. In 2025 the race moved to Branford’s Hammer Field along with the Branford Festival.

This year’s event offers all participants a food ticket with several food options on race morning. Options include: a Continental Breakfast courtesy of the event, a Pancake Breakfast courtesy of the Branford Rotary Club, or an egg sandwich courtesy of the Italian American Club.

The post-race party will once again be hosted at New England Brewing Company 10:15am-2:00pm. Each person buying a postrace party ticket receives 2 slices of pizza and a beer (for participants 21+). Tickets are available for purchase during online race registration.

Over the years, the nonprofit Acrisure Branford Road Race has proudly donated thousands of dollars to local non-profits and community organizations. This year’s race is partnering with Branford’s Community Dining Room.

My dad is amazing for a lot of reasons. He is a very relaxed person, and it makes me feel safe. For example, one time my sister got hurt and her tongue was bleeding. While my mom and uncle (who lived with us at the time) took her to the hospital, he stayed at home with me and no matter how worried I was he made me feel calm. He also is a great listener. He listens to your stories and asks questions, even over texts and calls.

Here are some other reasons why my dad is the best dad there is.

He left the dream location of Hawaii so we could have a better education in Connecticut

He has an amazing sense of humor and is easy to get along with

He isn't judgmental if you don't know something, instead he teaches you.

Being a Chief in the Navy, he served our country for 18 years and he did 2-3 deployments along with 5-6 underway (those are mini deployments). He has helped keep our country safe. Because of his job he is very busy. But he always makes time. He calls and texts almost every day. Whenever his job makes it so he can't spend time with us on his days, he will still stop by my mom’s house to play games, hang out and sometimes have dinner too, so that we still get to see each other, even just for a little bit. And if you have a school thing like a concert or field trip, he will do everything he can to be there, no matter what.

He is a great person too. Currently his girlfriend (Mrs. K) is recovering from being sick so she can’t use one of her arms too much. So he has been helping her and taking care of her. So she doesn't have to use her bad arm.

Though he deserves to be Father Of the Year more than anyone. Win or lose he is still the best dad ever. He has made so many people smile, including me. He is my hero!
