We have reached a hystorical milestone (he means ‘historic’?) … in that worthless charlatan Victor Austerity Jones who earned title to Loard Mayor (sic) defrauded his family and (once) left his brother penniless, though he’s found some pennies since, a few. Eventually, I’ll be dead, and you’ll all be reading this pamphlet, probably in a mini-museum for local cultural artifacts. You’ll smile, knowing that once, long ago, you read this, on the Tube, on your way into work that morning,

wishing this hellhole of sick that we live in could become something with great majesty. You’ll smirk, and hopefully, you’ll say, “We have.” Love to our planet. We’ll need it. - WOODLEY. April 2021

Epiphanies, as a show champions artistic independence and freedom, and depicts each of its characters in terms of their artistic passions, and lifelong creative aspirations. However, there’s comedy to be found, in how frustrated and disenfranchised most of them behave. Never owning anything and blaming relative obscurity upon the “neglected” island territory like a kind of global creative firewall that obstructs the success of anyone living there, and becomes the subject of an ongoing but subtle parody of the culture of entitlement and “whinging” (as our characters refer to the local whine.) Aurora Nova, esp. Morrowvale, and the vast majority of its inhabitants live with the horrifying screech of inefficiency surrounding them at all times. Though everything looks completely slick, almost nothing works at the public-facing level. At closer inspection, we can see the how no company is immune or different; as top-down management styles affect the workers and the general populace would appear to be going through a depression. The pathos of their whinging, complaining cries, while outside, the breathtakingly stunning Aurora Borealis illuminates the darkened winter sky fourteen hours a day. This is Aurora Nova – where every citizen feels like they’re the back-end of the Pantomime Horse that is their government. As territories go, they may have lost a bet somewhere as their flag looks like the left-over bottom half of

the Union Jack. Perhaps it’s really for all the Charlie Brooker fans and to all the musical agitators of the past present and future, with its grotesque parodies of immorality and unintelligence in corporate culture, and satire of funded arts projects that go out of control. Lampooning a culture where outrageous petty lawsuits dominate the media. It might be reasonable to say the author’s tone is a bit Ricky Gervais-like, with the ranting and mock-cynical generational viewpoints. Part of the show’s visual narrative Continually trying to pit pettiness against true beauty and majesty. I wanted to create a version of the most beautiful place on earth, where I could have a bunch of people piss and moan like an episode of Seinfeld. The architectural culture of Morrowvale intimates former (post-WW2) glory, marked by a rebuilding phase in the 1940s and 50s by a visionary “fusion” architect, but times have changed and there is more than a single hint of “former Empire” in its caricature of London (and all major cities) - diverse culturally, and struggling… while maintaining. Morrowvale is like London’s neglected and resentful entitled steampunk kid-brother.

Each episode we include the morning shot of Green Park, and glimpse the underpaid city parks worker whose job it is to return the statue grounds to normal, after the sculpture of the city’s main architect Victor Austerity Jones, an awkwardly rendered statue begging for defacement, has been again pranked in the night by an unknown art-terrorist who’s added another creative and silly visual gag like a Duchamp readymade. The citizens of Morrowvale really love to gripe about London… Everyone in Morrowvale is basically sick of London, having either moved to the UK territory of Aurora Nova while seeking a pre-emptive kind of asylum from Brexit. Everyone else is simply feeling quite “entitled” and boasts a “whinging” spirit. We caricature a city with a few particularly vocal celebrity whingers who sound really entitled and put it out that their consititutional/civil rights are being infringed by this parking ticket, or that incorrect latte. Aurora Nova, and especially Morrowvale, is fraught with a kind of metatextual irony – contrasting warmer, intimate up-close encounters, with broader characters of varying degrees of satirical exaggeration, and on the outer periphery, a media with cartoonishly grotesque celebrities, acting entitled and causing the world a bit of unnecessary grief. Agency boss Doug – and even enfant-terrible Woodley – are yesterday’s men, and RE:fresh is likely soon to become yesterday’s agency, their clientele fickle and keeping up with the times, and even as Morrowvale’s largest (and for-

merly slickest) creative agency, RE:fresh’s business model is now bloated by overhead and antiquated, and they are dwarfed by the uncaring and booming era of free trade of competitive services on the internet. Ostensibly, Epiphanies has a satirical edge, with regular overtones of threat, suspense and impending malice… Many shady characters, hard to trust with all their hidden agendas. And Ian doesn’t share any of this omniscience at first; he’s a pawn in this larger game, until he gets suspicious… and using his core skills, he eventually does manage to piece together the mystery of Woodley’s disappearance – so we may consider Ian the story’s comic ‘hero’ (if there is to be one) by his overcoming of odds which have been stacked against him, and revealing, through skill and dedication, who the true puppet-master is. It’s not a malicious or mean-spirited show, it’s a positive show, but couched in cynicism and dark humor. That it’s a cautionary lesson is an understatement. Sometimes you think, “THIS is what might happen if we’re not careful” and it’s subtle or nuanced, perhaps certain kinds of “immorality” is also portrayed grotesque, and the subject of caricature. Think of what Charlie Brooker has been trying to do with pedantic future-shock lecturing to an audience who gets it but still admits it’s bigger than they are and not easy to control, just the flow of “progress”. By this extension, it’s the satire of “Nathan Barley” with the dark, nuanced ensemble comedy and musical stylings of “Ideal” but set, rather fantastically, upon a darkly steampunk like

set mashing up “Gotham” and Gaudi, and located upon the moody, forgotten, overlooked British Island with a long arc of night time to daylight. It’s a “dark comedy” because none of these dramatic elements are treated significantly but instead with a dark element of British humour. My love of “dark British humour” combined with the experience of one of UK television’s most consistently dark of comedy writers is a deliberate teaming up, to reinforce that particular tone. The appearance of drama is only through the nature of some of the storylines, not the way they are handled. The disastrous misadventures of this agency, with the wit of a show like Better Call Saul or persistent black humour of Ideal.Ian is our Everyman. The most idealized version of you, with a tragic flaw.

Trade routes have never accessed the major city via river, resulting in a complex set of alternate bypasses which have been created over the centuries in order to preserve the self-serving natural beauty that is the river Welwythn.

Port Mitchell at Mulgroon Bay attracts both a kinky seafaring clientele but in recent years, an increasingly yuppie presence takes over during the holiday months. You can see it in the lighting.

The fishing harbor Molly’s Winkle is usually filled with the usual tosspot boating enthusiasts, eager in their vanity to show off their newest, fastest dinghies to the local tourists. Beware: the vast majority of them are from a Facebook Group in Idaho.

The basalt coastlines ending at Reachley stretch north as far as the eye can see. Which is not very far, due to the sharp crags in the fjordscape comprising the entire outline of Aurora Nova.

A frothy mist hovers in the 6am sea. No wait, that’s just a long exposure isn’t it.

Basalt comprises over 35% of the coastline of Aurora Nova, leaving it a surprisingly untrodden territory. This “igneous spaghetti” is made up of strands which go down to the centre of the earth’s core (Don’t be ridiculouos - Ed.) stretching for ages like petrified black licorice.

Villagers over the years have claimed rogue “land sightings” during periods of greater economic stress, as chalky great hillocks emerge if only briefly before making their descent back into the cold, glassy North Sea. This particular sighting is the largest known in recent history, when it appeared to residents of the town of Reachley for a mere 45 minutes in March of 2017.

The M12 motorway makes its graceful entry to the island’s capital from the North, entering our atmosphere at a reckless 100 kmph. Slow down! for fanny’s sake. Have you nothing to live for?

The M7 motorway in its princely ascent towards Sag End and onwards into Wyddlecombe.

The M12 motorway marks the north entrance into Morrowvale; one of the oldest roads to survive since Roman encampments during the golden era of foot traffic.

The T32 crosses the heart of downtown Morrowvale, where pavement meets shoe leather and where motorway meets a continuous stretch of rubber that just goes on for ages.

One of the many electrically-powered public trams operated by NIGHTlinkRail, after the introduction of electrically-powered tracks along Finch Road in 1946.

Morrowvale is protective of its slums, hiding them in the protective phallocentricism of urban corporate animal husbandry.

The Welwythn Reach, at its North-most bank near the Financial District (formerly Red-Light District.) In 1987 the Red Light District was re-branded the ‘Red Letter’ District and officially relocated to the South bank, with new building and work completed in time for the city’s tri-centennial.

The-Roost, unfortunately now known as the “murder hotel” of Morrowvale, had the distinction of being a top-flight fullservice lodging in 1919 when it was first built. Over 20 suicides, murders, murder-suicides and defenestrations were reported in 2012 alone, prompting a community-led effort to re-face the hotel exterior in search of a more broad-minded clientêle.

NIGHTlinkRailway was originally formed in Morrowvale in 1929; a conglomerate of local metropolitan railway lines, and which is now a publicly-traded corporation. It began on a shoestring budget and originally comprised of discarded or refused railway trains decommissioned from international train lines. Dick Forsken, original CEO accepted any train car nobody else wanted, ordering these to be sent by fleets of barges along the high North Seas. As the underground’s chief architect, he built the original transit system map loosely based upon the Frank Pick iconography once all the trains had been counted.

The “Our” in NIGHTlinkRail’s shoe-gaze catchphrase no doubt refers to some personal feelings of inadequacy and guilt as the direct result of a lack of transparency as experienced by Mr. Rushton, amongst others.

Swanley Station [014] borrows from a Gothic cathedral architecture charm, creating an airy space which is both a freeflowing centre for pedestrians and commuters alike, and not the least bit frightening to children.

Green Street Station [015] was the site of the first ever pre-internet flash mob in 1991, when two, followed by a growing number of commuters, burst into a cover of “Do Re Mi” until all were ejected from the trains platform by the Stationmaster due to the safety hazards caused by the outburst.

Bray Falls Station [016] fuses Morrowvale’s attractions with acute station design. The complex architecture accomodates an offshoot from the natural waterfall while addressing the engineering challenges of an underground station not filling up with water.

Blackhall Station [017] suffered a low-light problem once deemed so severe that passengers and commuters were simply trampling over one another in the darkness, trying to get on and off trains which sometimes weren’t even there.

Gull Mews Station [018] is an independently sponsored interactive museum and collection of dsiplay spaces for the arts, at least when the trains aren’t running.

Rail Way House Station [019] has always been home to NIGHTlinkRail headquarters and is a celebration of Morrowvale Railway Culture, with its Transport Museum and The Shunting Engine restaurant, though not recommended if you’re trying to enjoy a purely platonic, conversational lunch hour with an old fling.

Huntsberry Park Station [020] received a complete makeover during the millennium re-facing of Morrowvale transit, and has floors deemed so clean one could eat from it.’ Unattended children are placed in a sanitized holding area if left unclaimed in excess of ten-minutes.

De Gaulle Place Station [021] has a comparatively brief Franco-Celtic history which spans a brief decade and is home to the Parisian cuisine district of Morrowvale.

Shoveler Street Station [022] is home to a thankless crowd of drones every morning, each self-obsessed in their search to tune out the local populace. Therefore, bundle up – and bring your own Tube map; you’d be lucky to get any of these entitled yobs to give you even the plainest of directions.

Esplanade Station [023]

Shrike Street Station [024] with its endless illuminated corridors, strikes fear in the hearts of all readers of Sir Alan Gloworthy’s collection of Victorian mysteries, each opening rather predictably with a similar acts of malice in Shrike Street’s underground corridors, a literal “murder-conduit for serial criminals and rapists over the ages”... NIGHTlinkRail HQ assures us is quite safe now.

Austerity Hall Station [025] brings patrons to the theatre district in equal numbers with commuters just trying to escape the screeching racket of the city. An ironic statistic given the general purveyance of this crowd, a bit obsessed with Penzance at the expense of Pendrigal Cove. Many theatregoers, it also turns out, get hit by motor cars, citing the single most frequent mode of death in Morrowvale.

The entire NIGHTlinkRail transit system comprises 100 stations total, many of which are so closely situated to one another that commuters will take a “spite walk” to the adjoining station rather than wait patiently for a scheduled stop.

AURORA NOVA :: WIKI Disambiguation: Grøtness redirects here. AURORA NOVA - a 900-square mile island territory in the North Sea, approximately 100 miles northeast of Scotland, and a former territory of Denmark. Denmark just sort of “gave” it to them without explanation, no note. It’s a historical blemish. It is an unpopularized territory of the United Kingdom, but with a mercantile and industrial system introduced in the 14th century, transitioning into a modern metropolitan hub. Northern lights during the winter season. A slightly depressed economy needing a turnaround.

3.1 Early history Inhabited since the bronze Age Ancestry They were descendants of Danes and the Saxons, and were big into farming and agriculture, despite the northern clime of the island. They were of a mindset which symbolized survival through simple bloody-mindedness about everything for centuries and centuries. They haven’t achieved the kind of success which is adjacent to popularity however. Some countries do well and have loads of friends. Some countries have some remarkable enemies. Aurora Nova, by contrast, exists as a forgotten, overlooked, unseen territory of a very divisive Britain, and nobody seems to care about them. An island ter-

ritory, booming with business and yet, a chip on their shoulder. Denmark just sort of “gave” it to them, without explanation, no note. It’s a historical blemish.

A feud with King Edward II showed a reluctance to proceed with UK templates and a new order formed in Aurora Nova. The gumolderers were distinguished by being the multi-potentialites of their generation; erstwhile referred to as jacks-of-all-trades.

The Gumolderers were technically not Freemasons, as the masons were guarded about protecting their trade secrets which they felt the Gumolderers would aid to make public, through the many tradefriendships which arose in the early 19th century from the kinships. A gumolderer was treated like a double-agent of the profession. He or she (for it was a fraternal order) was regarded with both admiration and suspicion. Quite often, a tradesperson bearing the gumolderer’s insignia would be the one to break up conversations, even disputes. The perceived ‘authority’ of a gumolderer became part of the coat of many colors. This breach with the Freemasons created an order of tradespeople who now usually relate as multipotentialite beings.

The spool can be anywhere from several hundred millimeters, to fifteen feet in diameter, depending upon the millinerists’ trade laws in that age. Fines for being caught gumoldering were steep, sometimes resulting in excessive and poorly ratified, unfair prison sentences. Inigo Gratitude Jones, and Margaux Woodley Jones were the first two residents of Morrowvale to be met with the death sentence for gumoldering upon others in an unpleasantly effusive manner. Gumoldery is the “Rambaldi” of Epiphanies. The gumolderers are an arm of the British masons, formed is Chelmsford in 1817 with chapters in Aurora Nova, Wales, the United States and Australia. A secret society at the heart of the first occupants of Morrowvale, who styled their city with Victorian architecture of the time.

The Gumolderers were the common name given to the masonic chapters of tradespeople. They formed an anti-guild, active in the late 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, located primarily in France, the United Kingdom, and the North Sea isles. Gumoldery was the catch-all for the dysfunctional tradesmen, apothecaries and people of diversity in centuries past. The black sheep, the outsiders and outcasts…. and so on. So the ‘disenfranchised’ of today, and the multipotentialites, will relate to the Gumolderers of the past era.

3.5.1 1918–1944: Independence and autonomy from Denmark 3.5.2 1944–1971: Economic boom 1950s - Grim, gloominess 1960s - Getting the bitterness out; a release of a kind of frustration. Currently, this generation has been taught to attack grim gloominess with radiating positivity. But isn’t their stuff that also a King Haakon of Norway (d. 1957), according to historic record, disowned all claims of Aurora Nova as a former Norwegian territory, ascribing its full provenance to the Danes who occupied it after 750 CE. The belljar has been passed along through at least seven transfers of the Ministerial position. 3.5.3 1971-Millennium 1993 - Effects of the MV Braer North Sea Oil spill Braer oil tanker ran aground off the Shetland Isles in hurricane-force winds, spilling almost 85,000 tonnes of crude oil. The captain and crew of the vessel were airlifted to safety by helicopter after its engines failed and it became clear the disaster was imminent. It hit rocks in Quendale Bay, just west of Sumburgh Head, on the south tip of Shetland, just before midday on 5 January 1993. According to WWF Scotland, at least 1,500 birds died and up to a quarter of the local grey seal population was affected for the Shetland Islands. The effects upon the island of Aurora Nova were at the time under-

recorded and all species of bird were eliminated from the island over the course of the following three weeks.

3.6 21st century UK doesn’t exactly want it, but it’s been significantly inhabited by defecting Englanders. More like, the people on Aurora Nova want England less and less and are clinging to an EU relationship. The people from the US who have defected are more like the people who claimed they’d go to Canada when Trump became president, so we have lots of Anti-Trump and Anti-Brexit folks who managed to find their way there around 2016, and trickling over steadily since. The UK doesn’t exactly want it. Aurora Nova’s Western coast is notable for Fenway’s Tip, the protrusion of land extending from the island’s ‘great foreskin’ (the pagan terminology associated with its pair of large bountiful boulders at the beachhead’s gateway port accessing the Faroes. In this company, we use the term ‘executive’ rather loosely, as it’s more of a courtesy term of respect for a person in a particular job positing, rather than a description of the amount of vision Doug is willing to delegate for where it comes to his company, where the employees are instrumental to his success (which is occasional) but not worthy of owning “the feeling of the success.” For this reason, there are many subtle layers of disgruntlement we will get to see in the employee attitudes along the way. The arc of Epiphanies revolves around the people and activities at this agency. They have 3 main clients, and in the first episode, their main client, an artist named Woodley, dies, their second client puts them on hold, pretty much firing them, and the third is a grumpy man whose work will never help them pay their bills. So instead of shutting down, they accept a proposal brought to them by the trust of the (now) deceased Woodley, who left behind significant funds to deal with the items on his bucket/wish/to-do list, the responsibilities of which have been assigned to RE:fresh. This is the first they’ve heard of this and accept the commission. The bucket list involves getting rid of some people, shutting some people up, getting even, suing some people… pretty much all of Woodley’s unfinished dirty laundry. The agency is on the creative task-end of this proposition, and the solicitors inform them they can approach each tast any way they like as long as their strategies are transparent and eliminate finger pointing, and as long as their “solution” adds up to the same outcome in Woodley’s trust, which comes in the form of a binder and a rolodex.

RE:fresh is a large space with a bay and a small handful of closed door offices and larger, warehouse like space. There is one large wall that projections could go onto, but the secrecy of this project has Doug holed up in his office now to cover the material during the day. RE:fresh is also the Agency that produces Death Reels for the local network. An In Memoriam Reel for after they kick off. This should feature as a regular gig that they’re producing, we’re supposed to wonder, should the editor’s personal attitude about that celebrity be reflected in their choice of celebrity? It should seem a bit morbid, and at the bottom of their game, that they’re openly discussing the speed with which they were able to deliver finished reels to the networks at the instantaneous notice of a celebrity’s passing. Therefore, we should see this happen. Meme-wise, demonstrate RE:fresh’s faulty checks and balances, lack of quality control where Doug’s spreads are merely artless descriptions of his work. We need to address how exactly RE:fresh outsources the the printing of every piece to one of a number of vendors, never using the same one twice. Across the street from Green Park tube station in London is the RE:fresh building. Across the street is a much older, post-Victorian styled building. Many of the windows are broken and various entrances along the street and back alleys are boarded up. It has a sign that once read “Maison Des Quatres Cheminées”... scratched out and obscured.

Standing Stones In the Aurora Nova area there are 12 small sites with standing stones as remnants of the druid culture of centuries before. Flagstone (sedimentary rock of the sandstone variety, composed of feldspar and quartz) were dug from the earth using antler pick-axes by the early megaliths who walked the coastlines in those ancient times. Beyond Flatley Tor sits the promontory of Dribble’s Lobe, which also has a singular sacred ritual site containing 3 extremely tall, skinny stones, referred to as Odin’s tripod and stretching over 28 feet apiece in height. In 1857, the removal of peat from all the standing stones changed the look across Aurora Nova as part of an antiquarian boom which continued into the 20th century, until which time Victor Austerity Jones helped bring visibility to the moss’s natural preservation which that had effectively destroyed.

Microclimate During the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE, the Romans inhabited the islet during the initial planting the villages (which would later aggregated to become greater Morrowvale) but apparently left the island due the exceedingly poor food, ultimately replaced by the Nordic nomads who would happen upon the empty and deserted encampments and villages a century later, and become Aurora Nova’s first squatters.

Doug stays furious with NIGHTlinkRail. Too much pride to announce it the first day to any of the staff. Too insecure to go to anyone but Ian about any of it. Possibility that beginning of the 2nd episode, Doug goes into the NLR meeting, and gets fired, and goes home saying “See? We’ve got to do this unfortunately.” Later, when Jeff calls Doug back, he should say Jeff: I”m surprised you didn’t call me groveling trying to get your job back. Doug: I”ve got other things on my mind I’m afraid. Doug hints that he’s too busy (out of pride) and that he’s got a bigger client. Perhaps Jeff always thought that doug didn’t have a bigger client than him, and enjoying the feeling that “you work for me because you have no choice. And now they feel like “we need an in-house agency”

Management: Internalize your ad production already and stop paying these guys. Lucy’s boss Jeff rebels against it and gets them their gig back because they DON”t have a better solution and can’t bring it in house. Jeff simply enjoys the creative process of working with Doug and doesn’t care about doing it in house. Perhaps we should see some “leaks” of NLR’s baffling attempts to staff up -- just character stuff poking up around the edges of scenes with Lucy, Diana and the others. Ryan or Someone else from RE:fresh gets headhunted to be hired within NLR and this falls thru. Ryan has no real loyalties and should quit RE:fresh and be back quickly begging for his job back. So we see that RE:fresh is made up of these people with loyalties, but only 2 people have this kind of commitment; and Ian is one of those people for whom that is changing very very quickly. NIGHTlinkRail is RE:fresh’s #1 bread-and-butter client, that fires them the first episode. They go into further mismanagement without RE:fresh, eventually bringing them back out of desperation. The appearance of them having just fired their agency while their public image goes to hell prompts a very quick reversal, with Lucy getting hired back and Serge working from Ladies’ Rowing Team - NLRW has one perhaps? The central corridor opens to reveal, overhead a five-story, Victorian/ Catalan- hybrid Atrium (‘The Aviary’) designed and repurposed by Victor Austerity Jones. All scenes near The-Depot should resemble Bermondsey The converted to Modernism via the hybrid Catalan architecture of Victor Austerity Jones during the early 1950s, with interiors enhanced by a Terence-Conran-type around 1960. Perhaps someone says to Trevor, “Why don’t you go visit your parents more often?” “Oh, you know, it’s so far.” “It’s only at the DEPOT across the road. Oh but YEAH but there’s the pedestrian crossing, and poor timing at the meridian… So generally, there’s avoidance, and evasiveness and people doing what they can not to go into THE OTHER BUILDING. There’s never a reason, there’s just an amazing resistance to visiting people at the

other building, if they’re not neighbors. Eventually the NIGHTlinkRail.com overground station for THE-DEPOT would be re-drawn to contain all the characters who are left over. At least this would give them a place to live that’s convenient. The Aviary is a Hosting-NEST on the 5th floor at The Depot, where a commune/collective/consortium of web developers also work/ live together, as a hosting/developing team, a 24/7 personal hosting service approach. They begin with about 10 clients and grow to about 50 full time which they help one another with, via the aid of tubes through windows. This commune/business is dreamt up by Ian, to find a collective job for himself, Lavinia, Serge, Lucy and eventually Ronan, who moves into the courtyard during S03. It’s a bit like the Grot industries of Reggie Perrin; it’s the “successful” arc of the story where Ian shows how invaluable he is, as we see him flying from issue to issue, with a moving continuous camera approach to tracking one of his typical mornings, in S03E01. 10.1 Literature The works of Ronan Hyde as an emerging young writer in Morrowvale. The Porlock of Aurora Nova bears comparison to the original works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge do point to a great similarity in locale with that where the writer was interrupted during the composition of Kubla Khan. 10.2 Art

To be more of an “Electronic Lounge” in character, run by Georg Jellinek, an abrasive and slightly neurotic German man who looks permanently high on ketamine. Front-half is quaint gastropub, where we will occasionally see diners. Towards the back, glowing behind a darkened wall of glass bricks, is the electronic lounge. All the music played is very edgy, dark ambient, grime/dubstep, drum’n’bass, electronica/idm/microglitch, but with a “Pop Vocal” edge… NIGHTball - generic disco night NIGHTball.club is a bit like TV Go Home, a fictitious parody of a club site, describing the highlights from the various nights where the DJs – a portal to many of the characters from Epiphanies – Illustrate the Corridor push… Flurgasm - Snoregasm — Lucy’s name for Flurgasm. (‘Kraftwerk’) Industrial Power station imagery, projected on NIGHTball club walls.

Logistically, can we involve a reference to Krautrock Karaoke (Kenichi Iwasa) in Epiphanies, during one of the club night settings? FLURGASM 80s electro night, in a stark red/black motif with lacking any apparent awareness, of Kraftwerk style, its members or their music. Waifpixie Waifpixie, a speakeasy along Canal Street, except with bands and bongs instead of booze. Waifpixie is a club night run by Georg, in which he changes wardrobe, appropriately, to Lilith-Fair inspired female/unisex type clothing. WAIFPIXIE (Kunstfabriken play first gig, during this night) or there could be a freeform Krautrock night. ready conceptual? Vini and Peter are Jupiter’s partially-wiling assistants. They’re a bit like Hafler trio, as far as all the mythology about sound and being experimental audio researchers, as part of their day jobs, and trying to band business and rehearsals “after hours”. They’re also a bit like the 3 piece version of Cabaret Voltaire, except - Imagine if Chris Watson became the official bandleader the mid90s version of Cabaret Voltaire, where they’re getting a number of electronic chart hits, dancefloor cuts and music videos out on MTV Europe. Also dabbling ephemerally in sub-genres like acid house, big beat, drum’n’bass, ambient, IDM and techno, progressive house and leftfield across the entire 90s decade. Meanwhile, the “Mal and Kirk” (Mackenzie Crook & Reece Shearsmith) go off and do Künstfabriken, a Krautrock spinoff as a duo to initiate more opportunities to play live, their reaction to Jupiter who prefers to hide away (unconfidently) in his studio. Jupiter’s solo work aka “Found” is a bit like a heavily manipulated version of Chris Watson, perhaps what would happen if Matthew Herbert or Matmos were driving the train. During Season 02 we follow Jupiter as he responds to breaking the news of the commission to the group (at Refresh? So that they can overhear and catch wind of it?), is later seen discussing the blueprints for this giant musical thing, followed by improvisational rehearsals by Rhythm factory, and then, we see the 3 blokes out in the fields along the sides of the tracks planning the the distance between the musical receptors. This qualifies as installation art to them, justifying Jupiter’s high art aspirations, while also being a commission. There is an element of “Twenty Twelve” to the prospect of seem-

ingly “documenting” a fictitious, large-scale artistic conceit and then bringing it to life in the final episode, as a musical, light/art/sound show, which illuminates at night, under the Aurora Borealis. Vini Jackson & Peter Sibley In likening Peter’s technician reference to Jupiter, the remaining duo have an itch to play live and explore musical ideas outside of the studio owner’s reach. While Found is Jupiter Jenkins’ solo project, it does create an upset reaction in part to the news of Kunstfabriken breaking out from RF with their start, doing gigs as a duo. Peter is huge on his German psychedelic influences and longs for Kosmische, or ‘Krautrock’ played a bigger part in the music they made, but Jupiter dominates with his technical superiority, ownership of the studio and the band name Rhythm Factory. Inspired by German “kosmische musik” (aka Krautrock) and bands like Neu!, Faust and Can, Tha Groove is like DRILL. Vini and Peter play it to death in the rehearsal room as a kind of routine workout. They play it live as Kunstfabriken and it has the ability to go on for 20 minutes like a kind of Motorik jam rehearsal. When Mal from Fuzzknobs “joins” to play drums, it turns the duo into a proper trio, in Jupiter’s eyes, which further hurts Jupiter’s feelings. Kunstfabriken have the “star” factor covered with Peter, and with Vini the “live” factor down, and Jupiter fears it’s all without him. He pretends to disapprove slightly of KF while he’s actually quite in awe of them. He claims not to have seen them live, though in reality he stood at the back at every gig and didn’t let his presence be known to them. Peter and Vini, mistakenly view Jupiter as aloof towards their project, and refer to him as the “Amon Duul 1” to their “Amon Duul 2”. (As Julian Cope put it in Krautrocksampler, “…All the real musicians left Amon Duul 1 to join Amon Duul 2…”). Vini explains the analogy to Peter, in a kind of “we don’t *need* Jupiter to have a great band.”

Found Foundscapes, Exploratory Sound Foundscapes - Mission: About finding the cinematica in everyday sounds all around us. Found PETER: “Is this an art form, or are you just a technician?” Found is Jupiter Jenkins’ solo project. He is a proper audio nerd and hoarder of sound, and has an extensive library of sound files, as well as a repository of “sound waste” which he also repurposed into a recycled library of clicks and glitches. All sound carries a potential for art and is the byproduct of running an audio research lab, like The Pipeline, where Jupiter is regularly in deep over his head with tools and technology but Found is his project to turn that all into music. Jupiter once recorded the bodily functions of a worker bee colony, before being stung 87 times. Jupiter is also the Martin ‘Zero’ Hannett of the story, passionate about becoming the genius wizard who rules with the “mad craft” of recording and technology.

I have a musical project I started in 2015, based on the idea of me, playing live and doing so with a musical set that I could perform entirely solo if I wished, like William Doyle has done as East India Youth, or SOHN, or for that matter, Ed Sheeran, all of whom use the looper-pedal as an instrument. I started to allow myself more compositions that were just built upon the loop and I wanted to call this project something other than my own name, just to help people visualize that it would be music from these conditions, and I came up with the name, The Everyday.

The Everyday The Everyday (Garret Dillahunt) Over the past few years, I’ve built up an Instagram channel which I’ve cultivated as a display of the everyday.

Around that time I had come to realize that my life had become increasingly more like the traditionally unglamourous life of any parent; rewarding but ultimately not terribly scenic, a life of walking my child to and from school every day, then back to working furiously away behind a desk at home all the hours in between… rarely getting the opportunity or time to travel very far from home base to take new photos… Also, keeping an older car that is a little stubborn, I’ve always enjoyed the ‘nature walk’ aspect of life more and prefer that to the L.A. syndrome of senselessly driving everywhere/anywhere… So my “world”, suddenly had reduced to to recurring collection of sights, paths and routes… Delights to behold, but only if I learned to appreciate all the beauty in the everyday around me.

However, I’ve placed a lot of care on each of these images. Meaning, I’m not really a #nofilters kind of guy. I touch every image. Somehow, somewhere, I’ve art directed it a little further beyond its source. The camera is an excellent starting place, but I’m always looking for something a little more to give it my “personal touch”. I know some people have got it wrong about tools and filters, their view is capture life as naturally as possible. ALSO equally valid. But… why be ordi-

I was growing tired of looking out from the passenger window in my neighborhood, and only noticing graffiti and disrepair, noticing too much concrete, never enough color…. Northridge and its stiflingly “Concrete-Jungle”-like quality. The stereotype of the San Fernando Valley is a wide concrete rectangular basin without a single tree, just junky corner malls and mazes of industrial park cul-de-sacs. I’d regularly notice streets filled with people who didn’t appear to love their

jobs, or even their lives quite enough. I’d notice reminders that there are lots of neighborhoods which lack this kind. They’re perhaps not as evolved and lack the idea of cultural hotspots, perhaps because they’re in the mindset of survival…

and performed live with the aid of simple looper pedals. Ffolk is an invented sub-genre, part folktronica, in the spirit of K-Pop, it’s the Forest of Folk, emphasizing 12 string, shimmering guitar textures and instrumental works.

So for me, the idea of trying to break through that on a daily basis, and not to allow disenchantment, became the new daily ideal. I would pull out my iPhone to help me focus on one beautiful detail at a time, and once that was captured, I still needed to elevate that from everyday to the exceptional. I recall my friend Willow pointing that out about me, that I’m always trying to find the art in everything. I suppose that characterizes the nature of the people I follow on Instagram, as my feed is really nothing more than that, more beauty from the everyday.

In Epiphanies “The Everyday” is referenced only on fly-bills and subway graffiti, and overheard in a coffee bar… What if, it recently occurred to me, The Everyday was Derek Parker’s solo project? We reference him as a struggling songwriter and once do show him composing the song Lookout Girl, in reference to a meeting of two of the story lines…

The name however — “The Everyday” — I took another cue from my show Epiphanies in the choice of that epithet because I felt that there was a valuable reminder for the viewer, in the choice of showing people who live in a strange and beautiful land, to be focused on bickering and quibbling about “the everyday” — because in mind, there was nothing more poignantly as funny than to cross-cut away from Derek’s petty argument about burning toast to a wider shot of the city of Morrowvale under the Aurora Borealis — planting reminder of the cosmic beauty as he winds down in his snarkiness. I figured we could use that technique regularly, just to help reinforce comic pettiness once in a while, in a show with an account which always posts Beautiful Aurora nova imagery… Around this time, a solo guitar project/act I began to rehearse for, specifically established for live solo performance and playing electroacoustic and post-rock, with avant-garde jazz-classical overtones,

Originally, it’s Derek’s outlet to make music solo, on guitar, when they arrive in Morrowvale It’s his solo identity, until wife Alex, who longs to play guitar in a band again, hijacks it a little by joining him; they become a DJ couple at NIGHTball later on, hosting the Waifpixie night (originally Derek’s Post-Rock and You night, nearly cancelled due to increasingly poor attendance). Finally, their son Kevin who is 5 at the beginning of the story, gains in musical ground and wants to play in “the family band”. Derek begrudgingly gives up his solo identity in favor of slowly, but accepting his family becoming part of his creative passion - their hobby. No Logo as an artistic misspelling and re-branding. Seen only from behind in a hoodie, the reclusive security guard, also appears to have the ideal gig… Work from home, unrestricted hours, with a voyeuristic camera-bay watching job, requiring minimal training, and living in a place completely paid for with a penthouse view of the city and meal delivery. So what would you do? Work strangely long hours, fusing your hobbies, your life, your art and craft, and try to make money and become notorious while completely anonymous? Mr. No-Logo beatboxes, loops and scratches his way from boredom to musical kinesthaesia, with lo-fi sampladelic which he can spin into reality via the mastering equipment he’s installed for himself in a side room, where original whitelabels come hot off the press and into the hands of his DJ associates downstairs in the groundfloor nightclub Flürgasm… Trip-hop, downtempo and ‘atmospheric’ works with elements of jazz or soul eventually poke up to be seen by the light of day… Note: Mr. No-Logo’s trip hop also occasionally sounds a bit Gangsta… Production-wise it continuously needs more edge, in musical defense of his questionable activities and dealings… his relationship to Thuggish Bloke (aka King FM)…? episode where she and Graham Jr. reunite in the Penthouse and we learn that they are two different individuals. Bluebottles Bluebottles Derek Parker’s quaint musical project, we discover as a little bit of an afterthought. Purveyors of the quaint, novelty musical genre - but with a twist.* Acid Skiffle, jazz novelty &other unclassifiable musical ephemera. They are the ‘house band’ at ___ and appear to dabble in marching band, brass band, and other. Acid Skiffle - Acid, from the loops and the repetition; skiffle, referring to the quaint but direct style of arrangement. Novelty, at times but original rather than sampled. Leftfield, perhaps in approach. There’s also a nod to big band, with the slightly more sincere “A Happy Melody”… but in the context of Bluebottle, we know it’s all fun and games. *And often, with a swing. RECORDING STUDIOS & Facilities THE PIPELINE The Pipeline is Jupiter Jenkins’ recording studio, shared with the other members of Rhythm Factory (Peter & Vini). Their outrageous, demonstrative and/or extravagant use of sound is not properly zoned and creates a mess for them on a few occasions. Located at Atelier Voltaire / Monument Studios opposite the Woodley residence in Green Park, it became the target of Graham Woodley’s ire in Episode 2.

10.6 Sport 11 Controversy Aurora Nova Each locale has that cry of failure that rings with the place name and some historical detail, marking another one of its shortcomings. Since the time of William the Conqueror, Aurora Nova has remained a mystery. Some referred to it as “a pimple on the buttock of England’s cheeky Right-wing.” (They would later be beheaded). Others would simply not call at all, or with decreasing frequency, the birth of “ghosting” during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots. Once, a former shadow of it’s self, itself an enigma. A forgotten, neglected overlooked territory which has become selfsufficient in so many ways as to almost imply a refusal of contact with the outside world. We later figure out that in more of a Google sense, they’ve been accidentally filtered out for over a decade, after being overlooked due to the whole gift from Denmark thing. as an ignored piece of land where an entire colony of Englanders and other internationals have squatted upon it, but at the same time avoiding the . They appear, for their own intents and purposes to be under (at least recent) English rule. .AN - the Aurora Nova domain extension was rejected by ICANN in 2000 and has been repeatedly petitioned every year since. This is the story told by Pam Dimmock from the Aurora Nova Council and Tourism Board. About 2/3 the size of Northern Ireland, and still they won’t put us on the map. Aurora Nova: With negligible statistics as they are an “overlooked” territory and this fuels a divisive public anger of citizens who feel everyone should wear a mask, and other citizens who don’t wear masks in protest of the fact that their island is a blip on the world’s conscience.
