Control and function familiarisation
Running a large fleet of trucks and trailers means that your drivers are likely to be operating a wide range of vehicles. Every vehicle has control and fuction differences, which could effect both driver and overall operation performance. Our Driver Training + programme is here to help. Available for any Dawsongroup truck and trailer vehicle, this tailored training provides comprehensive product familiarisation to improve driver and vehicle performance. The training involves on-road demonstrations on how, when and where to use all of a vehicle’s controls and functions effectively.

Improve fuel efficiency and running costs
Every time a truck stops, it uses significantly more fuel to get it moving again. What’s more, a heavy truck will use around one litre of AdBlue for every 25 litres of diesel it consumes. Why not reduce your fleet’s fuel consumption by teaching your drivers fuel-efficient driving – stop avoidance, roll-ons and ‘journey for free’ techniques? Our Driver Training + programme has the potential to not only lower your annual fuel bill but also save on your AdBlue consumption, generating further savings across your fleet.

Reduce driver stress and fatigue
According to Brake research, fatigue is a major cause of crashes on UK roads:* 10 – 20% of all crashes are estimated to be caused by driver fatigue 6am drivers are 20 times more likely to fall asleep at the wheel at 6am than at 10pm 1 in 8 drivers admit falling asleep at the wheel Our Driver Training + programme places great emphasis on having planning and assessing mind-set, an important skill for every driver. This thought process training allows drivers more time to think and react to the unexpected, helping to reduce the stress and fatigue of their daily workload.

Reduce your environmental impact
In the 12 months ending September 2022, 1.64 billion tonnes of goods were lifted by GB-registered HGVs operating in the UK, equating to 19.5 billion vehicle kilometres.* In 2022 transport accounted for 34.0% of all territorial carbon dioxide emissions, compared to 30.9% in 2020 and 34.0% in 2019 (pre-pandemic). The large majority of emissions from transport are from road transport.** Reducing fuel consumption helps to minimise CO2 and NOx particles released into the environment. The Driver Training + programme will teach your team tips to reduce the amount of air pollution they produce.

Reduce vehicle downtime and servicing costs
National Highways recorded 172,805 vehicle breakdowns in the UK in 2020.* Driver training can help to combat these breakdowns. An efficient driver has mechanical sympathy, which reduces wear and tear on serviceable items such as the brakes, tyres, clutch, engine and driveline. It also helps minimise the chances of breakdowns and premature failure of expensive components, therefore avoiding costly downtime and your SLAs not being met.

Promote a safe and professional image

Our Driver Training + programme looks at your drivers’ attitudes and behaviours. Don’t let poor driving standards be an advert for your business!

Help meet H&S legislation
Don’t fall foul of the Health & Safety Executive. Training drivers on the equipment they regularly use reduces the risk of accidents, injuries and even death. In 2022-23, 135 workers were killed in work-related accidents in Great Britain, 15 of which were in the transport and storage sectors. In addition, 68 members of the public were killed in work-related accidents.* Our Driver Training + programme is specifically designed to combat these statistics. With the right training, you can ensure that your drivers are in the safest working environment possibe. Keeping your employees safe is one of our core values and training is a vital investment for your company to make.

Improve load sympathy
Damaging goods while in transit can have detrimental consequences. Fuel-efficient and mechanically-sympathetic drivers have a greater chance of getting fragile, delicate or vulnerable loads to their destinations in one piece. Our training helps improve your drivers’ load sympathy.

Minimise accident related damage
Reducing your repair bills is an important step in improving your overall profit margin. Our Driver Training + programme can focus on defensive driving techniques, empowering drivers to plan more efficiently, analyse external factors and react accordingly. Our training can go a long way to help reduce day-to-day accidents, collisions and minor bumps, thereby minimising your repair-related costs.

10
Reduce insurance premiums
Driver assessments and training demonstrate to your insurance company that you take a professional and pro-active approach to driver attitudes and behaviour. Our Driver Training + programme can include driver assessments and has the potential to help lower your insurance claims, excess payments and annual premiums.

Keep up-to-date with technology
Vehicle and engine technology are advancing fast. Long gone are the days when trucks were noisy and dirty. Modern vehicles are much quieter and safer. They are increasingly computerised and controlled electronically. But trucks still need human intervention. If a driver doesn’t know how to use the latest technology or how to react to warning lights and messages, you could end up with expensive repair bills, vehicle downtime and failed deliveries. Use our training to change your drivers’ mindset and keep them up-to-date with the workings of modern trucks. Help them get the best out of their equipment.

This module is suitable for both the UK and international markets, and successful delegates receive an award that is recognised throughout the world. It aims to develop knowledge of the causes of work-related driving incidents and provide the skills and knowledge to reduce the likelihood of being involved in an incident on the road. If you want to know more about the availability and cost of our RoSPA-certified training, please contact us on 0800 032 9766 or contactus@dawsongroup.co.uk
