Area-I’s objective is to be the leader in avant-garde solutions for small manned and unmanned aircraft that enhance capabilities and push performance into new realms.
Leadership Statement
Area-I was founded with the vision of producing innovative aerodynamic and autonomy-related technologies. By performing avant-garde research and technology development in areas of advanced aerodynamics, guidance systems, simulation, and sensor technologies, we aim to leverage our expertise to provide our customers with practical products and solutions that enhance the capability and performance of their unmanned aircraft system.
Products
AI.MAESTRO The AI.MAESTRO flight computer is a small, light-weight, flight computer designed to interface with commercial autopilots. In addition to the ability to augment autopilots, the flight computer can be used as a flight data recorder for flight testing, as an image processing unit, and for other applications. RECHARGE Originally developed under a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) award from the Office of Naval Research, Area-I’s Reactive Controller for Harvesting Gust Energy (RECHARGE) enables fixed-wing UAS to increase survivability in a wide range of atmospheric conditions as well as giving the UAS the ability to take advantage of those environmental conditions to increase endurance. The RECHARGE system accomplishes this by providing increased awareness of the wind field through which the aircraft is flying and by implementing gust energy harvesting capabilities. The system decreases energy requirements when flying within windy environments and thus increases endurance and range over a wide array of mission profiles. The RECHARGE system can also be used to detect and mitigate the influences of severe gust-induced loads, thus increasing the ability to maintain control and prevent structural damage in volatile winds.
