The Davis Academy Impact Report 2024-2025

Page 1

DEAR DAVIS ACADEMY FAMILIES AND FRIENDS:

As we reflect on another remarkable year at The Davis Academy, I am filled with gratitude and admiration for the incredible generosity of our community. Your support is not only a testament to your belief in our mission, but also a powerful expression of love for our students, faculty, and the vibrant Jewish life we nurture here every day.

It is a privilege to highlight the impact and success of our major fundraisers that took place last school year:

• The Davis Fund Campaign—Our school’s most important fundraiser exceeded its goal, raising over $790,000 to enrich students’ daily learning experience. We are deeply grateful to the hundreds of parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, faculty, staff, and community members who gave so generously.

• 26th Annual Community Golf Tournament held on May 12, 2025— Hosted at The Golf Club of Georgia and honoring Debbie and David Kurzweil, this annual event brought together more than 144 players, 50+ corporate and individual sponsors, and nearly 60 volunteers in support of our school.

• Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program (GOAL) — Through GOAL, 265 members of our community redirected a portion of their Georgia income taxes to support scholarships at our school. Thanks to this strong participation, The Davis Academy allocated more than $730,000 in tuition scholarships to deserving students.

Beyond the support of every donor, I am thankful for the countless volunteers who shared their time and talents to strengthen our school in meaningful and lasting ways.

I also want to express special appreciation for the leadership of our 2024–2025 Board of Trustees, and in particular, outgoing Board President, Micah Goldstein, whose guidance and support have been invaluable throughout his tenure. We are equally fortunate to welcome incoming Board President Jeff Hopkins, whose commitment to our mission will ensure Davis continues to grow and thrive for generations to come.

The extraordinary work we do together at The Davis Academy is possible because of your partnership, alongside the dedication of our outstanding faculty and staff.

With sincere appreciation,

“Your support is not only a testament to your belief in our mission, but also a powerful expression of love for our students, faculty, and the vibrant Jewish life we nurture here every day.”
Amy Shafron Head of School

2024-2025 Annual Giving Campaign

We gratefully recognize our donors who contributed to the Davis Fund between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025.

THE DAVIS FUND IS OUR SCHOOL’S MOST CRITICAL, ANNUAL FUNDRAISING EFFORT.

Tuition alone only covers 80% of the annual cost to provide the highest quality academic, Jewish, and enrichment experiences at The Davis Academy. A gift to the Davis Fund is the most important financial contribution we ask of parents, alumni parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, alumni, and community friends. The generous support from our collective community increases the value of The Davis Academy experience for all students.

WHY WE GIVE

We’re grateful for the families that make the Davis Fund a philanthropic priority.

THE EPSTEIN FAMILY

The Davis Academy has been a second home to our family and our daughter, Isla, for the last four years. We have found that the day-to-day classroom activities fuel Isla’s passions and exceed our highest expectations as parents. Beyond an elite education, we feel Davis sets itself apart for its focus on Tikkun Olam and fostering a respectful, loving community fueled by Jewish values. Before any child can take on the world, however, we believe they must first have a fundamental confidence in who they are – because of Davis, our daughter has so much pride in her identity, positioning her to excel when she approaches new challenges. The focus on “growth mindset” amongst Davis teachers and staff is one of the many reasons we are so grateful to be a part of this Davis community and continue to support The Davis Fund. Our contributions to The Davis Academy year after year ensure that the school will continually evolve to support our daughter and our community’s children.

Laura and Jonathan Epstein, David, and Isla ‘31

THE LEVY FAMILY

Our Davis LOVE for this special school’s families, faculty, and nurturing environment runs deep. Not only are we thankful to be part of such a welcoming community, but our daughter, Emilia, thrives at Davis. In just a few short years, she has gained self-confidence, beautiful friendships, strong academic skills, and a love for the arts. Because of Davis, Emilia is also a passionate student of Hebrew and has introduced new Jewish traditions to our family.

We give to the Davis Fund because Davis isn’t just a school—Davis is a place that fosters a life-long Jewish community. Being a part of a Jewish school has always been important to us, but we never knew how much of a positive impact it would truly have. It is a gift to be part of a school with an excellent academic program that is rooted in Jewish values. There have been so many unique Davis experiences that have been true “pinch me” moments. We will always be thankful for and support the place that so warmly embraced us.

Tamar and Josh Levy, Emilia ‘33 and Serena

What will be your legacy?

One time or another, we all reflect on what our influence will be on future generations and what will happen to the institutions that we love and have supported for many years. By including The Davis Academy in your estate plan, you can assure that an institution that means so much to you today will exist for future generations.

A Legacy gift to The Davis Academy is a meaningful and relatively simple way to give to our community. Your Legacy can be easily created by including a bequest in your will, by adding The Davis Academy as a beneficiary on a portion of your retirement plan, or by naming The Davis Academy as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

A Legacy gift to The Davis Academy is a lasting impact on our ability to:

Provide financial assistance to all qualified students who wish to enroll.

Attract and retain compassionate, dedicated, and experienced educators.

Ensure our students’ connection to their Jewish identity.

For more information on how to establish a Legacy gift or if you have already included The Davis Academy in your estate plan, please contact Elisa Prager, Director of Institutional Advancement at eprager@davisacademy.org or 678-527-3326.

Honoring DEBBIE & DAVID KURZWEIL

The Davis Academy was delighted to honor Debbie and David Kurzweil at our 26th Annual Community Golf Tournament. As devoted alumni parents and tireless volunteers, Debbie and David have made invaluable contributions to The Davis Academy and the greater Atlanta community.

Debbie and David and their two children, Matthew (Class of 2011) and Emily (Class of 2013) have been part of The Davis Academy extended family for many years. The Kurzweil family’s relationship with The Davis Academy reflects the essence of our mission: fostering personal and professional growth, leadership within the Jewish community, and an unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community.

Thank you, Debbie and David, for your profound impact on our school and community.

Establish a Tribute Banking Account

Establishing a Tribute Banking Account is a simple and convenient way to make honorariums and memorials. With an initial contribution of $300 to establish the account, your contribution can be used for an unlimited period of time, and your Tribute Banking Account will function just like a checking account. Each time you make a tribute, a personalized card will be promptly mailed acknowledging your gift in honor or memory of the person you designate. The amount of your gift will be deducted from your account. To become a “Tribute Banker” or to add to your existing Tribute Banking Account, contact Sharon Yokelson, Gifts and Records Manager, at 678-527-3317. You can also make a tribute online any time on our school’s website at davisacademy.org.

ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISING

Endowment Funds

An endowment is a pool of funds that continues in perpetuity, providing the ongoing support for priority program needs and for the future benefit and growth of the school. Endowment funds are active funds to which contributions can be made at any time.

Gifts to an endowment make a lasting tribute in honor or memory of individuals or loved ones. The principal of an endowment fund is invested for future earnings, providing a stream of income to support current needs.

These endowment funds enhance the educational experience of many students and faculty. We are grateful to these families for their foresight and thoughtfulness in making gifts of permanence in areas crucial to The Davis Academy’s future.
