Dear Davis Academy Families and Friends: This past school year has been historic. Transforming the school and embracing, protecting and inspiring our children each day, in person, during a pandemic, has been an enormous undertaking by so many. As we continue to celebrate our Every Day Heroes—our faculty, students and families who, along with medical experts, professional advisors, administrators, staff, Board members and graduates make up this incredible kehillah—we use this Annual Report to recognize the heroic efforts of our volunteers and our donors, whose deep dedication helped ensure the financial resources needed to make this most unique year possible.

The spirit of our community this year is unprecedented. In so many ways, including record-setting annual giving, we have shown we are truly Davis Together. The following pages highlight the hundreds of supporters who contributed generously during the 2020-2021 school year, with their time and financial contributions, enabling us to make The Davis Academy an extraordinary place for our community’s children, even during, and especially during, a worldwide pandemic: • Our 2020 Davis Together Giving Campaign exceeded our expectations, raising more than $1,350,000 through contributions from caring parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, and community donors. With 40% generously increasing their prior giving so the school could benefit from a very generous anonymous matching gift, we collectively ensured our operations and mitigated over $1 million of incremental expenses incurred in creating the safest environment possible for our students and faculty. We are grateful for each and every gift, and for the incredible matching grant of $500,000.
Letter from our Head of School
• Our 22nd Annual Community Golf Tournament honoring Sam Tuck was once again postponed due to the pandemic. We look forward to being together on Monday, August 30, 2021 and greatly appreciate our generous sponsors who remain committed to our school and to this event. • With these two important efforts strengthening our school’s operations, we also greatly value the Davis community’s strong participation in the Georgia Private School Tax Credit program (through ALEF Fund), by re-directing their state tax dollars, enabling us to allocate over $750,000 in tuition scholarship funds for students this year at The Davis Academy. • Additional program grants, special occasion tributes, endowment fund contributions and legacy gifts further strengthen the Davis experience in unique ways, now and in the future. With COVID-19 bringing many unexpected challenges to our extended Davis family, I am extremely grateful for each and every donor and to the dedicated volunteers who helped ensure we have the resources to be the very best school we can be. I am especially thankful for our President, Lisa Freedman, and our Board of Trustees, who lead the way with their passion, dedication and commitment. Amy Shafron Head of School

This year, because of the unique circumstances and the increased funds needed by the school, The Davis Academy created the 2020 Davis Together Campaign. This special campaign not only supported the general operations of the school but helped to mitigate the incremental expenses incurred by the school in creating the safest environment possible for our students. Even as COVID-19 brought unexpected challenges to our extended Davis family, the 2020 Davis Together Campaign participation was laudable. Overall, The Davis Academy reaped broad based financial support from parents, grandparents, community friends and alumni parents. We also gratefully acknowledge an anonymous match of $500,000 which truly enhanced the overall success of our campaign. We are thankful to all our donors.

Why We Give Kats Family Now in our fourth year at The Davis Academy, our family is thankful to be a part of a community bound by a rich academic tradition and Jewish values. Everyday our three children are challenged by a rigorous academic curriculum which helps them develop their critical thinking but also express their creativity. The Davis faculty are a highly qualified, dedicated and passionate group of individuals who inspire our children to be menschen. Beyond the academics, we chose Davis because we wanted our children to learn about their Jewish identities, history and tradition. We no longer live in small ethnic communities. Modern technology has expanded our understanding of the world in which we live but these changes have also made it difficult to give our children a sense of identity and belonging. Providing our children with a strong Jewish foundation, like that taught at Davis, helps them understand that they are part of a longstanding community and it gives them the moral compass that often lacks in our secular society. We support Davis and encourage others to do so because we believe that a Jewish education is an invaluable gift. Georgia Tax Credit As a participant in the Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program (ALEF Fund) The Davis Academy can receive funds to supplement financial aid we offer to enrolling students. The Tax Credit Program allows couples, individuals, and businesses to direct a portion of their Georgia state taxes each year to the independent school (s) of their choice to be used for financial aid. In 2020, over 400 parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, alumni parents and community friends participated the program, reallocating more than $750,000 to enable hundreds of students to attend our school. Thank you for giving the gift of a Jewish education.

Endowment Funds An endowment is a pool of funds that continues in perpetuity providing the ongoing support for priority program needs and for the future benefit and growth of the school. Endowment funds are active funds to which contributions and tributes can be made at any time. Gifts to an endowment make a lasting tribute in honor or memory of individuals or loved ones. The principal of an endowment fund is invested for future earnings, providing a stream of income to support current needs. These endowment funds enhance the educational experience of many students and faculty. We are grateful to these families for their foresight and thoughtfulness in making gifts of permanence in areas crucial to The Davis Academy’s future.

IN-KIND DONATIONS The Davis Academy greatly appreciates the many gifts of goods and services received toward the enhancement of our programs, classrooms, and offices from many parents, grandparents, community members, and the Davis PTO.
LIBRARY BOOK PROGRAM In celebration of birthdays and other important occasions, over 256 new books were purchased for the Sylvia G. Breman Library and the Edward H. Fields Middle School Media Center this year. Thank you to the many students, parents, and grandparents who generously gave the joy of reading to The Davis Academy. Many thanks to the PTO, which organized this year’s book fairs to encourage reading and provided books to our permanent libraries.

The Alfred & Adele Davis Academy, an accredited Reform Jewish Day School, provides an academically challenging environment with enriched curricula, integrating general academics and Judaic studies from Mechina: Kindergarten Prep through Eighth Grade. In a nurturing, secure environment, instructed by a faculty dedicated to excellence, children are encouraged to reach their highest potential. The Davis Academy strives to create a community in which children develop a life-long love for learning and commitment to Jewish life founded on morals, values, and ethics, grounded in Torah.
The Davis Academy is a proud beneficiary of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, which recognizes the crucial role The Davis Academy plays as Atlanta’s largest Mechina through 8th grade Jewish Day School.
