FORMULAS We have given value to the goodness of every single formula, enriching it with active ingredients from Slow Food Presidia farms in Italy through which we help protect our planet’s biodiversity. The formulas of Essential Haircare solid shampoos are free from sulfates and silicons and also contain high percentages of easily biodegradable ingredients, while combining performance and sustainability. Our dermatologically tested solid shampoos are typically formulated with a skin-like pH and delicate surfactants for particularly gentle cleansing that respects the balance of hair and scalp. Based on this formula, the Essential Haircare solid shampoos can be enriched with conditioning agents to give softness to the hair, as well as improving workability and pleasantness of use. Each family of Essential Haircare shampoo bar promises a specific benefit: hydration, volume, discipline, daily gentleness. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
The solid shampoo bars are packed in fully recyclable wrappers, made of 100% FSC paper from responsibly managed forests. This lightweight, minimal packaging is ideal to contain solid shampoos with artisanal simplicity. The inside features a precious virtue: practical tips to make the most of shampoo bars and optimise their duration, thus preventing any kind of waste. The CO₂ generated by the raw materials, production, packaging, transport, and final disposal of the solid shampoos is offset through the EthioTrees reforestation project, supported by Davines. The EthioTrees project supports the regeneration of soil and forests in Ethiopia’s northern region of Tigray, in the Tembien Highlands, that are at risk of desertification.

To this end, Davines has decided to work with the non-profit Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity Onlus joining its Presidia project. There are more than 400 Slow Food Presidia worldwide, which technically and financially support more than 10,000 small producers so that they can continue growing indigenous plants thus preventing the disappearance of a genetic heritage that has an inestimable biological value. The purpose is to support local agricultural economies and prevent the extinction of artisanal traditions. Each family in the Essential Haircare line contains one specific active ingredient from a Slow Food Presidium, which features the story, the face and the name of the person who grew it with care and passion.

HOW TO USE YOUR SHAMPOO BAR?
Wet the solid shampoo with water and work it with your hands to create a soft, creamy foam. Apply the foam to wet hair and massage until the product is evenly distributed. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if necessary. Follow with suitable conditioner if needed. The feeling on wet hair may be different from what you’re used to with traditional shampoos. Do not worry. Once dry, your hair will be light, soft and bright.
HOW TO PREVENT WASTE AND MAKE YOUR SHAMPOO BAR LAST LONG?
Do not waste water: remember to turn the tap off during the application of your solid shampoo. Rinse your solid shampoo after use. Do not leave your solid shampoo exposed to water and humidity. Air dry your solid shampoo after use. Store your solid shampoo in a closed container once completely dry.
WHAT MAKES OUR SOLID SHAMPOOS SO SPECIAL?
Unlike traditional soaps that have a high pH and do not contain conditioning agents, the technology behind the formulas of Essential Haircare solid shampoos is completely different: it allows to use a mixture of particularly delicate surfactants and it has a skin-like pH, for a very gentle but effective cleansing action that can provide compactness and brightness to the hair fibre. Thanks to this advanced technology, the formulas can be added with a mix of conditioning agents, which are raw materials able to bring softness to the hair and improve its workability, calibrated to meet the needs of different hair types and to create a rich, creamy foam. Some of the conditioners are of natural origin, stem from brassica and are used as a botanical alternative to silicones. Finally, the formula used allows to enrich our solid shampoos with natural ingredients, such as active ones from the Slow Food Presidia, through which we help preserve biodiversity.
Just like the original Essential Haircare formulation philosophy, the solid shampoos only contain what is essential for the effectiveness of the formulas. This is why we have chosen to maintain their natural colour, without adding any bleaching agent, in order to minimize the impact on aquatic environment. AN ANCIENT TECHNIQUE FOR A NEW, SUSTAINABLE VERSION OF SLOW FOOD EXTRACTS
To ensure optimal performance and maximise the effectiveness of the active ingredients from the Slow Food Presidia, the Davines laboratories have revitalized the ancient technique of organic maceration. Through a slow, patient process, the most important properties of the natural raw materials from which our Slow Food extracts are derived can be kept unchanged thanks to this technique, which refers to past times and, at the same time, combines the most current scientific knowledge. It also uses sunflower oil as a sustainable and natural alternative to chemical solvents, traditionally used.

With Paceco Cartucciaru Yellow Melon extract, Slow Food Presidium. Rich in water, vitamins and mineral salts, it gives prolonged hydration. In the early 17th century the growing of melons was very common in the agricultural villages near Trapani, Italy. After the late harvest, melons were stored on terraces or hung on balconies until Christmas when, once sliced, they were enjoyed for their sweetness and juiciness. To protect the Presidium, after obtaining the extract, the melon seeds are sent back to Mrs. Simonte so she can plant them again. Producer: the farm of Mrs. Francesca Simonte from Dattilo, Trapani.

With Orbassano Red Celery extract, Slow Food Presidium. Rich in mineral salts, it has a remineralising effect on the hair. The story of the red celery from Orbassano began in the 17th century when Anne Marie d’Orléans, Duchess of Savoy, brought purple celery from Tours with her from France which was more flavourful and tender than the celery then grown in Piedmont. Over the years the French purple celery adapted well to the vegetable gardens surrounding the city of Turin and developed the characteristic red colour of the stalks. With Minuta Olive extract, Slow Food Presidium. Rich in fatty acids and vitamins, it has an elasticising and softening action. The Nebrodi mountains, the large “green heart” of Sicily, are the ideal habitat for a rare and ancient Sicilian olive cultivar, the Minuta. Unlike other Sicilian oils, the Minuta olive oil is very delicate and rich in subtle fruity notes with floral aromas. It is highly nutritious with a high concentration of polyphenols and vitamin E. The centuries-old olive groves, which are still producing, are evidence of the historical significance of Minuta olives in the area. Producer: the farm of Mr. Carmelo Messina from Ficarra, Messina.

With Caprauna Turnip Root extract, Slow Food Presidium. Rich in minerals such as phosphorus, iron, calcium and vitamins A, B and C, it gives body and volume to the hair. The area of the municipality of Caprauna is characterised by an incredible expanse of ancient dry-stone terraces. In the past, farmers used to grow turnips on the same land where wheat had been harvested to promote crop rotation and prevent soil “exhaustion”.
