Fashion Photographer Karl Lee on Why He Hopes to Never Be the Best We spoke to fashion photographer and artist Karl M. Lee about his career, what personal and professional growth looks like, and what social media has meant for his brand.

Karl started his photography journey with nothing more than a passion for shooting exciting new images. He started out as a student of YouTube University, as he puts it, and just went from there.

“Learning is a time thing,” says Karl, when asked whether he might’ve done something differently, to which the simple reply is no.

“Over time you earn the skills to appreciate your passion for a craft you love.”

Despite his modesty, Karl has come a long way to now be photographing everything from Beauty and Fashion projects for various reputed magazines to weddings, Sweet 16s, and similar types of events.

Karl also told us how important social media is to his brand. We hopped on to Instagram, where Karl is at the head of a 10k-strong following, and we were immediately struck by the powerful imagery of his work. A quick look through Karl’s portfolio will indicate he is not a point-and-shoot type of photographer, but a true artist. Each shot is laced with such wonderful tonality and suggestions that it’s no easy feat to forget them. Everything from the color palette (which is bold, yet paradoxically understated), to the poses of his models,

proves a vision that is both exciting and vintage chic at once.

When we asked Karl what his biggest achievement was, he replied with a smile, “I think that part’s still being written.”

However, he did go on to explain he is in a far more comfortable place in his work than he was when he first started out, and that, to him, makes it all worthwhile.

“I would say my biggest accomplishment is being comfortable with my work to where I can enjoy it. Meaning for a long time I would cry myself to sleep hoping to one day be like my idol, Lindsay Alder.

She has taught me a lot, and I'm so honored to say that because her teaching has changed my photography life for sure.”

But Karl seems to have worked out a pretty solid routine and pattern for himself. When he’s editing, you’ll typically find him listening to house DJ Black Coffee to soothe his flow.

Karl’s constantly learning and working to become better. He confided he wishes he would’ve learned Lightning sooner, as that would’ve helped him a lot in his work, but overall, is comfortable with the learning process.

“To be good is all I hope for in my work, never to be the Best, because I know what that looks like in this realm of photography.”

He thanks God, as well as his friend and mentor Rallo Cross, who introduced him to Photoshop because he knows the importance of remaining grateful and humble in your journey. Currently, Karl is working on shooting the next hottest images, and growing as an artist.

Eva Fleurose, Life On and Off the Catwalk You may have stumbled across Eva Fleurose’s page on Instagram. If not, we’ll tell you a little bit about her. This lovely mother of two is of Polish origin, though she has traveled all over the world, settling in London, Milan, Paris, and most recently, Mallorca, in Spain. She is a wellseasoned traveler with an openminded understanding of the world. She is also a famed beauty influencer currently at the helm of a following half a million strong (529k followers, to be exact).

She talked to us about how important social media has been in developing her brand and enabling her to reach a wider audience across the globe. Her content is focused on sharing her unique fashion sense, as well as various photography shoots, she has been a part of. What’s supremely appealing about Fleurose’s social media is it’s clear she’s not just a model, but also a human being. In between the various photo shoots, you get snaps of what it means to be a mother, and her journey as a human being, which really adds a personal touch.

Fleurose also spoke to us about how social media helped her on a personal level, in “making friends with people from all over the world, which has been so good especially when moving countries so often.”

Recently featured on the cover of Grazia magazine, Eva told us how she wishes she’d started sooner. She shared with us how, back in the day, she used to work as an executive assistant for a luxury fashion brand.

“All of us in the office were super creative with our outfits back then. Our office was our catwalk. It was great! Always loved fashion, even as a kid I was planning a day before what will I wear to school.”

She credits model and socialite Hailey Bieber as one of her biggest fashion inspirations and shares with us some drawbacks of being an influencer.

“Some people think being an influencer is easy and we don't do much, not realizing how many hours it takes sometimes to create and edit one reel. Or even to take good photos, it's all about finding good lighting and waiting for the surroundings to be rather empty with not many people, cars, etc.”

However, complaining isn’t really Eva’s strong suit, and she quickly spoke to us about what a joy it is to be creative.

“Being creative means coming up with new ideas for content that people will love but also will bring me joy while creating it.”

Of course, we had to ask what she does when she’s not putting in the work on social, and she confided she loves to indulge in a little baking and could spend hours in the kitchen, adding though, “with a good playlist and a glass of wine”. In her playlist, you’ll currently find an eclectic mix, consisting largely of French songs.

“My husband is French and even he gets surprised sometimes when he listens to my playlist,” she laughs.

She names Celine, Balenciaga, Magda Butrym as some of her favorite fashion brands, and hopes to be at the helm of her very own fashion line in the near future. There is no doubt in my mind Eva will continue to rise and continue to grow and we couldn’t be more excited to continue to watch her journey. Make sure you follow Eva on Instagram @evafleurose.

Enriching the World Through Photography – Yustina Valova With the rise of social media, there has been a particular focus in recent years on visual art, such as video and photography.

Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have given visual creators an excellent medium to express themselves, and share their work with people around the world, some of them to great acclaim. One of the most popular fashion photographers on the scene today is Yustina Valova, whom we were lucky enough to chat with.

As an influencer, artist, and also a social media manager for her own work, we wanted to get Yustina’s input on what it means to be creative in today’s world.

We asked Yustina about how she views social media, and social networking and the potential this has for emerging artists.

“Today, social networks are very important, both for people just starting their way, and for professionals. It is a platform to express yourself and tell others,” Yustina explains. Obviously, she enjoys expressing herself through her photography tremendously, and her unique photo style has gotten her work featured in publications all over the world, including Italian Vogue, which Yustina considers one of her greatest accomplishments to date.

One of the things that are powering her not just as an artist, but as a human being, also, is her incredible versatility. With a wide ranging palate that stretches to things like her music taste, but also her art, Yustina is perhaps one of the most versatile artists we’ve come across.

“Each person is unique in their own way. I think people see what they want to see in a person,” she says, speaking of herself, but it’s also a principle that can be applied to her art. Yustina’s photography definitely brings out unexpected angles, and unique takes on her subjects, which only serves to make her work more memorable.

Although meticulous and determined in her work, Yustina has a surprisingly chill and easy-going vibe. We asked her what she might’ve liked to do differently, in the early days of her career, and she answered with this.

“Everyone must go their own way, and if this is how mine turned out, then someone needed it!”

Yustina admits she doesn’t like making concrete plans, which is why she doesn’t know where her future will take her. One thing is for certain, though, she definitely doesn’t plan on stopping here. In the coming years, she looks forward to exploring new directions with her work, and helping photographers who are just starting out hone their skills.

“If photography brings you pleasure, try, experiment, surprise! Find your style and handwriting! Just go ahead!”

It’s certainly an approach Yustina has adopted in her own art journey, and look where it’s taken her.

Currently, she’s at a place where her career is growing, and her artwork is helping determine and push forward the careers of many models and magazines.

“Through the prism of photography, our world is getting better,” she told us, in parting, and with photographs like Yustina’s, we can’t help but agree.

Quinn Cabie is a modern-day jackof-all-trades. Filling his days with IT work, by night, Quinn works as a photographer, creative director, and jewelry designer, among other things. He is a hustler, with a golden attitude, which is why we loved chatting with him recently, and getting to know the man behind the photos.

While Quinn started out in IT which is, reportedly, not the most creative of jobs, he tells us that one of his greatest accomplishments in that field has been maintaining his authenticity, and remaining a unique soul, in a sea of machinery.

No doubt, a sign of his naturally creative soul, which has also pushed him into becoming a podcaster, philosopher, and investor, on top of everything else.

Naturally, with such an impressive creative rap sheet, we just had to get his take on what it means to be creative in this modern world.

“A little while later, I just woke up one day and I decided I wanted to be “Fresh”. So that same day I learned about men’s wear and I bought 5 pairs of shoes and bought clothes and went from there. I wouldn’t say I had any inspirations, I mainly wanted to look different from everyone else, I wanted to build a style that can’t be copied.”

However, he does quote Scotch & Soda as one of his favorite fashion brands, chiefly for their seasonal designs, affordable prices, and quality material. As an artist, it’s Quinn’s mission to let the world around inspire him and propel him further in his artistic journey.

Both in fashion and music, Quinn demonstrates an eclectic style, and enjoys blending different styles to create a new, unique look. In fashion, that style can be witnessed and enjoyed on Quinn’s social media accounts. In music, he enjoys a mix of genres, naming Satin Jackets, Super8 & Tab, Makoto, and Degz, as some of his all-time favorite artists.

“Being creative means separating yourself from the world. Fully, and I mean fully embracing who you are as a person. When you are creative, you’re not normal. You have a weight on your shoulders to be unique. That’s what being creative means to me.”

His creative spirit and love of novelty is also what eventually pushed him into the world of fashion. He recalls how he first started noticing men at the events he was attending who appeared really well-dressed, in his eyes.

Quinn also confides he has some impressive plans for the future. He hopes his investments will pay off, but also that he will achieve success in his personal life, with marriage and starting a family. His friends and loved ones, people like Auset and Nad Pitt, are some of his biggest inspirations.

He also looks forward to giving back, and hopes to become involved in charity work in Trinidad.

Before we let him go, we asked Quinn for some words of advice for young creatives, and he did not disappoint.

“If you feel scared about being different, don’t. Being different is what this world needs to move forward.”

“No Dream is Too Big”

Shallie Abbiusi is a name that’s starting to be more and more recognized, across the European and international fashion scene.

Starting out as a beauty pageant queen, then later developing into a reality TV star from Belgium, Shallie now enjoys popularity as an Instagram influencer and model. Her work has been featured in numerous notable publications, and she now enjoys a thriving career as a TV presenter and plus-size model for West African channel GHOne TV. Moreover, Shallie is an entrepreneur, currently running her own social media game (which is almost 300k followers strong), and building her own empire.

“I strongly believe that social media is important for everyone and any business since our whole society shifted to online platforms,” she tells us, confiding that she considers social media “key for [her] brand”.

Shallie began her career when she won her first beauty pageant at age 18, and was swiftly scouted by an international modeling agency. She then appeared on reality TV programme “Temptation Island: Love or Leave”, as the first plus-sized contestant. It was also around this time that Shallie began being outspoken about bullying, and created an anti body-shaming movement across Europe.

So naturally, we wanted to ask her how she views social media in the present world.

If there is one thing she wishes she’d done differently, Shallie admits, it would’ve been starting sooner. At the time she won her first beauty pageant, she was studying to become a biomedical lab technician. She tells us she only quit that line of work in 2020, to go after her dreams properly, and wishes she’d done it sooner.

“Plan before you make career jumps, prepare yourself mentally and financially to take risks. Keep pushing, work hard, no dream is too big if you really believe you can do it.”

“But I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and every experience makes us grow into the person we have to be to accomplish our goals.”

In spite of that, it looks like Shallie has done pretty well for herself. The self-confessed polyglot (speaking 6 languages, and understanding 7) quickly put her sharp wits to work in developing her social media game. So naturally, we were curious about some of the misconceptions and prejudices she encountered doing that, since no line of work is without its hiccups.

“When I started building my online brand as an influencer, people assumed that it was 'just taking pictures and looking cute' while there is so much work that goes into the content you create. Not just the creation but also understanding the algorithm, the branding, the technical aspect of editing videos,.. It is so time consuming, it's a whole job!”

Although ambitious, Shallie was reluctant to share her goals, saying instead she “work[s] and see[s] results”. Our conversation shifted to how she likes to relax, and she told us of her deep love for music, particularly afro beats, reggae, but also old school R&B, and Drake.

Naturally, we couldn’t let her go without asking for some words of wisdom for someone who’s out there, making it every day.

Entrepreneur, Model and Business-Owner at 22: Sara McNally Sara McNally is not like most 22-year-olds.

At an age where most people are barely discovering what they might like to pursue in life, Sara is already a brand designer, model, social media influencer, and go-getter. And since we love a good hustling story, we just knew we had to catch up with her. Sara, who is the woman behind the brand Insignia Swim, talked to us about what it means to design and model your own swimsuits, and outfits, growing a social media brand, and going after your dreams.

Born in Portland, Maine, and growing up in nearby Scarborough in a beach-side community, Sara has always felt a deep connection with the sea. Obviously, swimming has been a big part of her life, and as a self-confessed fashion lover, combining these two interests only seemed natural.

Her brand, Insignia Swim, was born out of a passion for the beach, and Sara’s desire to inspire and encourage women to feel beautiful and sexy in their swimwear. Of course, social media played a pivotal role in the development and growth of Sara’s brand.

“Social media has been a wonderful tool for me to advertise my brand,” Sara told us. “Another great thing about social media is that I have met some of the most incredible women from all over the world and I have formed many wonderful relationships.

Really, it is all about women supporting women.”

Aside from being a successful entrepreneur and social media expert, Sara is also a model in her own right. She has been featured on the cover of ModelzView Magazine, as well as doing inside spreads for numerous fashion magazines. She’s also scheduled to shoot for Maxim Australia Magazine, in Greece, this coming October.

At 22, Sara is an incredibly successful and based individual on all counts, and a genuine pleasure to talk to. Though this attitude has been developed and honed after years of setbacks and disappointments, as is natural in every business.

“When I first started I wish I didn’t care so much about what others thought of me.

Your life isn’t yours if you constantly care what others think!”

She is also a keen athlete, who enjoys tennis and basketball, as well as going to the beach, and working out. Of course, she also knows the importance of spending time with family and loved ones, particularly with her twin brother who is precisely one minute older than Sara.

In the future, Sara looks forward to growing her brand, and becoming the best version of herself, which we’ve little doubt she’ll accomplish with her stellar attitude. In parting, we asked Sara for words of advice for aspiring models or entrepreneurs, “Don’t ever do anything that makes you uncomfortable, or unsure. Stay true to yourself always. Work hard and stay determined. Don’t accept every offer that comes your way. It may be an offer but not a good one, evaluate for yourself.”

Sara knows the importance of taking some time away from her business, to focus on her hobbies and passions. She enjoys listening to music, especially “oldies”, like Guns’n’Roses, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, or Marvin Gaye.

“Trust Your Gut & Chase After What you Want” – Model and Creative Director Roxanne Mojica Roxanne Mojica is a fashion model and creative director with a fierce individuality and love for art. She was kind enough to sit down with us and help us explore some of the differences and similarities between being a model and a creative director. She also shared with us her impressive story, and opinion on social media as an entrepreneur and influencer.

Mojica, who started modeling in 2014, on a whim, and had a life-changing experience at her first audition, tells us modeling goes “hand in hand” with being a creative director.

“Modeling is focusing on appearance and conviction when working but directing has so much more to it. You learn how to come up with ideas and poses to help other models. Also as ideas for shoots or recordings.”

Since that first audition, Roxanne has collaborated with hundreds of big name brands, magazines, and photographers. All these experiences showed Roxanne, who at the time was grieving her mother’s untimely passing, that this could be more than just a distraction. It could be a place of tremendous passion, and inner growth.

However, Roxanne’s journey and outlook wasn’t always a positive one. She tells us how she “gave up on herself, at a point of serious uncertainty, and later came to regret it.

“Four years ago, I took almost 2 years off of social media, deleted my other account

and got a job in marketing which was more behind the scenes. I was very unhappy. I didn’t know what direction I wanted my life and career to go in. Now that I trusted my gut and chased after what I really want in life I can say it’s paying off. Looking back to 2017 I would have not thought I’d be here today.”

Of course now, Roxanne recognizes the immense role social media has played in her development as a model and creative director. Allowing her to get in contact with other creatives, social media also acts as Roxanne’s main booking gateway, letting new brands and artists discover her.

In her journey, Roxanne has also had her fair share of misconceptions, that she encourages new models to ignore. She tells us that while a lot of people assume “models work for free”, it’s actually a matter of finding good representation, and someone to handle your finances well.

Roxanne also encountered prejudice, with many people surprised at her keen interest in language arts, due to her profession. But she didn’t allow that to deter her one second. In the next few years, Roxanne looks forward to accomplishing more in the modeling world, and maybe even starting her own brand.

When asked for words of advice for aspiring models, she says: “It sounds very cliché to say this but don’t give up. You are your biggest critic.

When you think people aren’t watching you they are! You might have 10000 people that don’t believe in you, but you also have those people that are watching you, supporting you and being inspired by you!”

Gabriele Mansolillo: “Don’t Trust Creators Who Have Nothing to Say.” Gabriele Mansolillo is an expert in communication, in every shape and mode it might take, but particularly, through visual art (in all its varied techniques). Speaking with him is a phenomenal pleasure and source of fun, since Gabriele is an artist in the true sense of the world, and not just someone who “does it as a hobby”. Every new interest or avenue explored serves as another skill or insight to add to the art, allowing it to grow and flourish.

As such, Gabriele was one of the most exciting interviews we’ve had, though no doubt too brief.

“Every hobby, born for a series of randomness and all, is added to what is my way of seeing, conceiving and living on art,” Gabriele tells us, attesting to that true artist spirit. Perceiving life as a permanent journey, and road of self-discovery and growth, Gabriele is using it to capture and develop his art in every possible way.

Though of course, each artist perceives their journey a little differently, and we were keen to learn what that means for Gabriele.

“I am an experimenter, I live life on the "border" and when they are understood and accepted, that is already a good goal,” he explains, simply. It’s clear that this is someone deeply immersed in his art, and enjoying the journey tremendously.

Of course, as is the case with most modern artists, a large part of Gabriele’s art is displayed and popularized through social media. Since nowadays most artists need to become something of a creative social media expert, on top of being a content creator, Gabriele does so with relish and taste.

“Social Media plays a big role and is very useful in letting me share my work,” the artist, who enjoys listening to Queen, Maneskin, and Blink182 in his spare time, confides. However, it takes a special kind of creative spirit to know how to use social media to your advantage, without letting it dominate your life.

For Gabriele, the chief focus of his time continues to be his creative journey, something he sees himself pursuing in the next years. To this, he takes a relaxed, though determined approach. He shares his ideas about developing a creative voice, and honing one’s skills, especially as a young, emerging artist.

“As well as studying, ask yourself questions ... for the answer to those questions is that, there is always time.”

It’s perhaps his relaxed yet determined approach that will no doubt take Gabriele Mansolillo to new artistic heights in the coming years.

For Gabriele, art is chiefly about sending a message, and telling a story, which is also something he encourages young photographers to work on and develop. Very interested in work with a message, not just a series of pretty colors and poses, he has this to say to young, emerging artists: “Do not trust those who have nothing to say, every single photographer, whether it works or not, must have something to say, just do you and keep creating.”
