Heidi Petersen, Model & MS Survivor: “Don’t Let Anything Hold You Back” Heidi Petersen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2015. Rapidly following her diagnosis, she watched all of her dreams and aspirations going downhill. What followed was a period of depression and profound uncertainty in this young woman’s life… ...from which, she emerged braver and stronger.

“The last year has been a year of self-discovery for me. My focus has been self-care and self-love and doing this has opened my mind and I’m here embracing every moment that is given to me.”

Now, Heidi is a model, who is living the dream one day at a time. Having always dreamed of a modeling career, Heidi’s aspirations were put on temporary hiatus. As much because of her disease, as because of her own worries and fears. However, having come to grips with the idea that an MS diagnosis needs not be a life sentence, Heidi started shedding her inhibitions and fears, and pursued a career in modeling.

In her own words, once she made the conscious decision to move forward, life provided, and allowed for that to happen.

“When considering modeling a year ago I worried about height, weight, and scars on my body. Now, those things don't concern me. I believe there is somewhere in the industry that everyone can fit as long as they love themselves and have the confidence that is needed.”

Where she would not allow her MS to influence or hold her back from achieving her dream, Heidi sure wasn’t going to let fear do that. Rather, her determination allowed her to take that much needed first step. And all for the better. Having shed her insecurities and learned to love herself, Heidi now acts as an inspiration to other little girls who dream of the same modeling life. Her presence on the scene is signaling the clear message that nothing can hold you down, aside from your own fear and insecurity.

Heidi’s story is a powerful, and overwhelmingly positive message, of which we need more of, both in modeling, and in the world, at large.

Having always been a big lover of art and music (some of her current favorites include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Jay Z), her dream is to go forth in that world, and establish herself as an accomplished model. But her biggest dream is to be able to look back on the many challenges and setbacks posed by her MS and say, “I made it”.

It’s a noble dream, one that this remarkably determined young woman is sure to achieve, sooner rather than later. To the world, Heidi Petersen is a model, a woman, an artist, and an inspiration. And to the people who wish they could do more, but are too afraid, she is a message-bearer. And that message is loud and simple: “Don't let anything hold you back from your dreams. Even if you’re dealing with physical challenges know what your limits are and practice self-care, you will be able to accomplish your goals.”

Model Seriana Gamble: “Hard Work Isn’t as Hard When You’re Enjoying It.”

Seriana Gamble is one of those fascinating people who are drawn to so many different topics that they’re doing a little bit of everything, and that makes them all the more exciting to talk to.

Seriana is a model and digital creator on Instagram. She’s an author and a graduate student. She’s an actress and a podcast host.

And she’s using her social media to showcase all of that, creating a vibrant, eclectic portfolio for herself.

“I also use it as a tool to learn more about my crafts because there are so many other creators on these various apps sharing their knowledge and experiences.”

Unsurprisingly, her fashion style is also very varied. A selfconfessed tomboy growing up, Seriana was always unapologetic about her dressing, and knew firmly what she wanted to wear, and how. “Jumping late into her own style”, Seriana now oscillates between business casual looks, and retro chic. She admits to buying “clothing pieces that look as if it was created between the 70s and 90s”. She likes hitting up thrift stores, to find catchy accessories and clothes that will stand out. And all of that makes her a more nuanced, and appealing model, and fashion inspiration.

For Seriana, however, the road wasn’t always clear-cut towards fashion. A big animal lover, she tells us she was seriously considering becoming a primatologist at one point. However, it seems life took her in a different direction, for which we’re grateful. Because Seriana is a tremendous and prolific creator.

She’s also a big lover of art and music, quoting Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, and Summer Walker as some of her favorite artists.

When it comes to fashion, some of her biggest inspirations include Nike, Guess, and Banana Republic.

“I feel as if people believe models are self-centered, stuck-up, and image focused. That is the opposite of what I’ve experienced. Most of the models I have met thus far are very kind, welcoming, encouraging, and open-minded,” she says.

She also admits to wishing she’d taken the time to research agencies more carefully in the beginning and being more wary of people’s intentions. Still, Seriana’s taken the good with the bad, and is tremendously grateful for her journey so far.

Aside from modeling, she has also enjoyed success as a public personality, booking her own political campaign commercial, and publishing her first book recently. Overall, Seriana embodies her own description of models -- very kind, encouraging and openminded.

“Be authentic and unique. It is so easy to get caught up in unreal body images and want to follow other people’s methods for a fast track to fame, but no one can be you like yourself. Also, if you belong to a minority group, represent it and be proud. This industry will sometimes try to diminish qualities that make people unique but advocate for yourself. My final word of advice is whatever you decide to do in life, enjoy it. Hard work is not as hard when you enjoy what you are doing.”

We couldn’t agree more with the statement. They say if you are working doing something you love, you’ll never have to work. Seriana is a true inspiration, and we are excited to continue to follow her journey all the way to the top.

As someone who’s walked in various shows and taken part in fashion weeks, Seriana has come across her fair share of misconceptions and disappointments in the fashion industry.

Melanie Maria: From Model to Social Media Expert Melanie Maria is a young woman who dons many hats. She is an influencer and a model, having been featured in numerous prestigious publications like Vogue Mexico. She is a woman. She is an actress. She is a Playboy model. She is a social media expert, with her very own brand, MM Media Productions.

“Social Media is very important to both of my brands because it’s what tells a story. It tells a story about my lifestyle of being a model, actress, and mommy and my other social media tells the story about the business I run and how I am helping other businesses grow from the ground up.”

What immediately strikes you about Melanie, in conversation, is her humbleness and her upbeat character. Asked if there was anything she regretted, or that she wished she’d done differently, the young model could not point to a single thing.

Asked what she’d tell a young person, just starting out in the modeling world, she says: “Don’t give up, you will hear a lot of no no no, but those few yes let’s do it answers will give you the courage and security you need to be a successful model.”

Now, that sort of attitude is rare. We’ve seen many personalities who, although happy, when asked that question would have more than a few complaints on their early years.

But not Melanie Marie, who is supremely positive, and oriented towards the future, as well as being grateful for her experiences so far.

Melanie Marie, who goes by @makeupbycurls on Instagram, first got her start in fashion three years ago, when she started posing on the platform. She rapidly started to amass a following, one that now spans over 40K followers. And that was how she knew she wanted to be in fashion.

She does, however, have some remarks on the grueling fashion industry, and ways in which it might be more helpful to women.

“Short women for example are not taken seriously, because they don’t meet the criteria to be in high fashion or model because of height requirements which I think should be something that should change in the modeling world.”

Never one to dwell on the negative aspects for too long, Melanie quickly goes on to speak of the many things she loves. In her own industry, she is a keen lover of brands like Dior, Pnina Tornai and Fashion Nova.

When she’s not working, she loves to relax, listening to artists like Ella Mai, and cooking, which she quotes as her favorite secret hobby.

It’s also impossible to stay focused on the bad things when you’ve got so much going for you, and yet more in the works.

Within the next five years, Melanie hopes to be featured on the cover of Vogue, as well as build a strong 6-figure success for MM Media Productions, and have her business featured in Forbes. And given her resilient and go-getter attitude, we’ve no doubt this young woman can achieve

Ireland Borba is a young model from San Diego, who recently relocated to Miami, Florida, and whom we had the good fortune of speaking with recently. Ireland Borba is not only a beautiful and accomplished model, but also a social media influencer, and actually works with social media.

We talked to Ireland a bit about the Importance of social media to her brand and her blossoming career. At over 110k followers on Instagram, Ireland must be doing something right.

“Social media has helped me grow tremendously in my work environment, I’ve worked with the biggest brands, social media can really help you grow in the modeling world even more.”

In her career, Ireland has so far collaborated with big brands on commercial shoots. She has also been featured in the Miami Swim Week, and worked with various big-name clothing and accessory brands. She is a highly driven young woman, with an interesting story to tell. We wanted to delve a little deeper into that story, asking Ireland what she wished she’d done differently. She told us, that she wished she’d started earlier, and taken advantage of the connections she had in high school to prompt what has turned out to be a fascinating and deeply satisfying career.

“But everything happens for a reason and I’m grateful to be living in Miami and having a great job that I enjoy and keep expanding every day.”

In her own words, Ireland is a complex person.

Describing herself both as a girly girl, but also as a sports lover, she got her first break as a model when she was only 3, starring in a power commercial and a diaper commercial. She has always been a big fan of both traditionally girly, elegant things. She is a lifelong fan of brands like Dior, Chanel, Prada, and Rick Owen, but also enjoys ESPN. “I went to school for sports physical therapy and have always wanted to work with ESPN or pro teams for physical therapy.”

She loves animals, as well as spending time with her big family, and kicking back to some of her favorite music, which includes artists like Drake, Brent Faiyaz, Lil Baby, Giveon, and so many others. She also enjoys doing yoga and focusing on her diet and her health, which she credits as one of the secrets of a successful model. For her own success, she also credits her family, especially her mother, for supporting her and encouraging her to never give up on her dreams.

In the near future, Ireland hopes to be featured in both Sports Illustrated, and Paris Fashion Week, and getting back to more active sports involvement.

To young models, just starting out, she advises a healthy diet, and a gogetter attitude:

When you first meet Earl the Kid, he immediately strikes you as an unusual, fascinating character. The self-proclaimed “Donut King”, this guy’s all fun and jokes on one side, but with another more serious hustling side. As such, we were dying to have a chat with him about what got him into the donut game, and how he views his popularity.

Aside from being the man behind the Donut Invasion game, Earl the Kid is also an artist and DJ, having worked on more than a few high-end events. In his native London, he’s been “able to spin for a few Gucci private events (bless you V.L.) in some really exclusive locations”, as well as sustaining his own music shows, both in the UK, and in Europe.

As is the case with so many modern-day artists, social media plays a big role in Earl’s popularity, though he does praise it with a grain of salt.

“We cannot escape the social media trap, can we? It's literally impossible nowadays to promote your art/music without using socials as a tool. Majority of people use it just to flex a fake lifestyle tho!”

For someone boasting a quite impressive 50k-strong following, Earl is surprisingly down-to-earth and chill, giving you the impression, you’re hanging out with just another friend. A really off-the-wall, and vivacious kinda friend. His take-no-prisoners and no-regret attitude is an immediate tonic. When asked if there’s anything he wishes he’d done different, he says “Actually no, otherwise I wouldn't be where I am right now.

Everyone has a different path, mistakes gotta be made on a daily basis in my opinion in order to grow and progress forward!”

It’s this straight-forward, cheeky attitude that gets Earl noticed across social media. That, and his unusual choice of selfie style, for Earl has been wearing a face mask before it was “cool”.

That’s right, this donut king has been using elaborate, sometimes spooky masks to conceal the lower half of his face, and as such, his true identity, thus further perplexing his fans.

“They donut know my real identity and how I look like without the mask, so I guess that's a good hobby to live an "undercover" life when I'm off stage!”

That, along with his eclectic music style (Anthrax, Lamb of God, Depeche Mode, ATLiens being but a few of his favorites) are what’s got new people flocking to Earl’s side. And lucky for them, ‘cause Earl’s sure got big plans for the future, including owning his own donut brand.

Still, in the present, he keeps it humble, crediting his parents for creating (and supporting!) him all these years, before launching into a laugh, and also thanking the first person to ever bake donuts.

Earl’s also deeply committed to giving back to the community, currently running not one but two separate projects: fashion society called “Dimes of London”, and mental health project

“Hybrid Mental Health”. Reaching out, he invites readers to drop by and say hello, or hit him up, if they need to talk.

On a final note, he adds: “My biggest suggestion is to start making music for yourself whenever you cannot express your feelings/emotions through normal interactions and eventually other people will relate to that and support you. Do not make music for clout or money, this industry is already saturated by those assholes.”

Lisa-Marie McGinn is a young Scottish beauty and fashion photographer, who’s been amassing quite a following. Having relocated from her native Highlands to Canada, in order to pursue her art, Lisa-Marie discovered that art really is an international endeavor. As a largely self-made woman, and a phenomenally gifted photographer, we were keen to catch up with her, and see what the world looks like through the eyes of an artist.

In her decade-long career, Lisa-Marie has seen everything the industry has to offer. She worked as a fashion writer for Practical Photography Magazine, was a speaker at ProFusion in Toronto, and has traveled Canada extensively, speaking and teaching about her craft. At the moment, she acts as ambassador for Elinchrom, specifically for their lighting equipment.

And according to Lisa-Marie, one of the biggest helps in her career has been a powerful presence on social media.

“Social media is incredibly important to my brand. It is how people find my work and contact me from seeing my latest shoots,” says McGinn, whose behind-the-scenes reels are drawing new followers on Instagram every day.

Of course, in over 10 years of being in the photography world, Lisa-Marie has come away with a lot of lessons. Asked what she might’ve done differently, were she able to start over, she says: “I would tell myself to stop comparing myself to others. It's easier said than done because I still find myself doing that.

As artists I think we are our own worst critics, and we need to focus on our own work and stop comparing.”

She also warns young photographers against the common misconception that being a photographer is easy. Quite the contrary, says McGinn. Not only do you have to worry about the shoot itself, techniques, lighting, setting, and so many other elements; but once that’s done, you’ve got editing and retouching to do. According to McGinn, the work itself never stops, but “[she] wouldn’t do anything else though, [she] love[s] this industry.”

But first and foremost, before being a photographer, LisaMarie is a mom of two boys, whom she describes as her world.

When away from the camera, she loves spending time with her children, going to adventure parks, pools, walks, scooter rides, you name it. Lisa-Marie is a devoted mom, who shares everything with her kids, including her music.

“My 3-year-old loves music! We are loving Ed Sheeran, Lizzo and Harry Styles!”

The photographer also credits Beyonce as a musical muse, helping her wind down after a long day, or when driving somewhere. Close to her family, McGinn also credits her mother with believing in her throughout and inspiring her to never give up.

Overall, life is packed, both by the excitement of the present, and also by plans for the future. Lisa-Marie hopes to return to traveling and teaching photography all over the world one day.

If she were to give one piece of advice to young photographers just picking up the camera, it would be, “Keep shooting! Shoot whatever idea you have. Some work, some don’t and that's okay! In a year from now, look back at your work and you will see how far you’ve come.”

Interview with the Pharaonic Queen

Amun Starr is one of the hottest celebrities on the music charts in 2022. With a following that’s over 800k strong on Instagram, over one million on TikTok and YouTube views, and a whopping 3 million on Soundcloud, Starr is not only an accomplished musician, but also an influencer, turning heads wherever she goes, both digitally and physically. We had the good fortune of sitting down with Amun recently, and chatting a bit about her success, what it means to be topping the charts for years in a row, and what her goals for the future entail.

Amun first shot to the public eye back in 2019, when she won the Hollywood Music Award. Following that, she enjoyed a string of nominations and wins. She was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2021, and more recently, won the Soundcloud Waveform Award in 2022.

She is also known as the Pharaonic Queen and is the very first personality to shoot a music video inside the Great Pyramids of Giza, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

She has also been the first and only person to do a photoshoot with King Tutankhamun the Pharaonic King all over the world.

We spoke with Amun about some of the biggest inspirations behind her art and her music, which she attributed to a deep fascination with Ancient Egypt, especially the god called Sekhmet. Now, for those of you not up on your Ancient Egyptian trivia, Sekhmet was the god of the hot desert sun. Well, she was also the god of chaos, plague and war, among other things, but the burning sun was her main attribute. Her name, Sekhmet, literally translates to “She who is powerful”.

And it’s no secret that Amun Starr has channeled a lot of that power and energy into her own art, and her stage performance. She is recognized by her following as a strong woman, although she herself will admit to not being as strong as her fans sometimes think. Amun Starr is a tour de force in her own right, but also a delicate, and fragile lady who sometimes needs help. As such, she wonderfully combines fragility with strength, both blending into a wonderfully varied and captivating persona.

Amun is also a mother, and quotes one of her biggest focuses in the present as balancing home life and career.

“I balance my career with my life as I have kids that I can give time and attention to for what I do, and I have a huge company that is working on everything for me that’s why we are here now.”

We also spoke a little about Amun’s plans for the future. In the next couple of years, the music star sees herself topping the charts and billboards. She has no plans of stopping or slowing down and advises young musicians to do the same. She is also a deeply helpful person, and wanted to end on the following note, to anyone just starting out in the music business: “Anyone who needs help with music from me can email me. I would love to help people to achieve their dreams.”

A pivotal moment that started this design journey was when Creative Director, Kyah, stumbled across a macrame design created by Oliver Duncan Doherty; it was breathtaking. The line and hand work used to create this hand knotted macrame bodice formed inspiration to deliver creative designs through this handmade artform. Kyah experimented with fabrication, turning old clothing into innovative designs. She then started an expetimental phase, creating natural dyes from all sorts of fauna; combining different ingredients to create a concoction of colour and vibrancy. Soon after she found her love of print; which prior was not as prominent. Combining the natural processes with electric colours and prints, she soon realized there was a gap in the market for bright, printed, sustainable clothing, as many of the sustainable brands at the time were minimal, loose and floaty, and not printed.

The brands’ ethos is, do something your future self would thank you for, and this can be interpreted in a few ways. It can be regarding sustainability, which the brand is emphasizing, perhaps recycling, or growing your own vegetables to make a positive change to the environment. It can be about yourself, perhaps giving more self-love, talking to yourself positively, believing in yourself, setting goals and working towards them. It can be to others, nurturing relationships, being kind, honest, helping others when they need it. If everyone takes a small step to take something positive every day, the impact would be huge.
