hello MCR

NMENTS

We are delighted to announce the expansion of our business across the North West having moved into some fantastic modern-day office space in Manchester.

You can find us in the heart of Ancoats, the popular up and coming area situated East of the Northern Quarter. The decision to move into Manchester has been in the

pipeline for quite some time, and now that the Davies Partnership Work-Life Balance Charter is agreed we have everything in place to ensure the commitment is successful. We have a dedicated Manchester team to introduce you to soon enough including our newly appointed Senior Mechanical Engineer Sami Mahmood. Our team are also enjoying having the option to work from the Manchester Office thanks to our Agile Working Model.

03

AGILE WORKING STAFF SURVEY In the latter half of 2021, we implemented an agile working trial as part of our new WorkLife Balance Pledge and Charter. It was the right moment to address working styles and evaluate how our team wants to work moving forward, following the positive response by the business and the team throughout the COVID19 Pandemic to agile and home working. This was the first step in creating our new Work-Life Balance Pledge and Charter. Something that is needed to fully reflect the values and purpose of Davies Partnership.

BABY FIELDS DUE JUNE We would like to wish a huge congratulations to our Commercial Manager Kevin and his partner Chloe who are expecting a baby in June.

The Work-Life Balance Pledge and Charter will outline to the wider team our purpose, the Davies Partnership approach, the benefits staff will receive and our pledge to the team to make this the best place to work.

It also allowed the board to understand more about the evolution needed for working patterns, locations, technologies, and wider support. The survey also sought to understand how to keep our teams feeling fully connected and together.

It aims to set Davies Partnership apart as an employer of choice and foster a sense of pride amongst our people, creating a highly motivated and rewarded team.

The anonymous survey resulted in some really valuable feedback that will affect some of our decision making with regards to our new work model and design of our office spaces moving forward.

In January, we created a survey with the purpose of understanding how we best create a working environment that is future fit to meet both the needs of the business and the wider team.

NEW STARTERS In March and April, we welcomed Mihaela Moglan and Simon Ditchfield to the team to strengthen both our mechanical and electrical departments.

We’re all looking forward to meeting Baby Fields and are sure Kevin will have his hands full with plenty of sleepless nights!

Mihaela joined our electrical team following 7 years at her previous company, whilst Simon has re-joined the mechanical team having worked for the company for many years in the past. Mihaela and Simon have already made a fantastic impact bringing with them a great deal of experience in the industry.

RYAN APPOINTED TO FUTURE IMPACT BOARD Having officially launched the Liverpool Place Partnership Future Impact Board just before Christmas, I’m delighted to have been appointed a place on the board alongside a team of committed and forwardthinking professionals. The Future Impact Board is a collective of professionals under the age of 30 working in property and construction, who

are committed to striving for positive change for the future of the Liverpool City Region. It is an honour for us to be able to provide a valued and diverse voice for the younger generation and to hopefully influence decision making on a local, national and international scale, and we are very excited to help shape the future of our amazing city over the next few years.

Our North Wales team sat down for lunch at Bryn Williams Porth Eirias in February to discuss next steps to strengthening our presence in Wales. We are currently developing our North Wales Business Plan which will include the expansion of our carbon and BIM services. Be sure to keep an eye out on our social channels for all our latest developments.

GEMMA WINS UNSUNG HERO AWARD We are absolutely thrilled for our very own Business & Finance Director Gemma Davies who took home the ‘Unsung Hero Award’ at the Women in Business Awards 2022. The event took place on Friday 4th March at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool where over 300 leading business personalities gathered for an afternoon of celebrations.

The business wouldn’t be where it finds itself today without all the hard work that Gemma does behind the scenes, so the entire Davies Partnership team are delighted for Gemma to receive such a special recognition in the Unsung Hero Award. We’d like to congratulate all the other winners and the very worthy nominees who inspire us on a daily basis and thank the Downtown in Business team for another fantastic event.

Downtown in Business established the Women in Business Awards to celebrate the finest female-led businesses, the established and up-andcoming entrepreneurs, and the women who make the most valuable contribution to the growth of the Liverpool City Region economy.

06

“I feel honoured to have been part of Davies Partnership for over 20 years so far, seeing my wonderful Dad start the business in 1996 and witnessing its growth, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved as a business. I’d like to thank the whole Davies Partnership team and in particular, the rest of the board, for their support and the surprise gift of gorgeous flowers.”

SHORTLISTED FOR MULTIPLE AWARDS As we approach awards season, we are delighted to share the news that we have been shortlisted at multiple upcoming awards events.

At the City of Liverpool Business Awards, we are up for ‘Family Run Business of the Year’ which we hope will add to our Business of the Year win last year.

At this year’s Constructing Excellence Wales Awards, we are on the shortlist for the ‘People Development Award’ and ‘SME of the Year’.

To be recognised as a business that is dedicated to our people and has family values at the very core of our operation is very special, not to mention our tireless work into Net Zero Carbon which we take great pride in.

We are also a part of the team for the ‘Net Zero Award’ for our work on the Crown Buildings project in Wrexham.

LCR CULTURE & CREATIVITY AWARDS We had a fantastic night at Cronton Sixth Form College in March for the Liverpool City Region Culture & Creativity Awards.

A big thank you to Ngunan Adamu for expertly hosting the evening and sharing a funny moment with Tony on stage – Click here to watch the clip on our LinkedIn page.

As part of our continued support of the Impact Award for Environmental Sustainability, our Managing Director Tony McDonnell had the pleasure of revealing Metal Culture as the winner of this year’s award. We’d like to congratulate the Metal team for an amazing achievement, and to the other worthy nominees for the great work that they have been doing for the city region’s Culture & Creativity sector.

07

We are very much looking forward to attending both awards ceremonies and will be keeping our fingers crossed for some more awards success!

TEAM AWAY DAY It was great to have our team together at Chester Races earlier this month for the Boodles May Festival Ladies Day.

Having been our first time together for a while, it was a special occasion and we were all glad to see the sun shining.

As part of our 25+1 celebrations, we were delighted to get together for what was a day out to remember.

It was safe to say we had more luck with the weather than betting, although did you really go to the races if you didn’t spend more than you won?

NORTH WALES FOUR HUMP CHALLENGE Our North Wales Four Hump Challenge has been live this month, with some of our team tackling the event on Friday 20th May. Initially planned last year, but postponed due to a combination of COVID and typical British weather, the event brings together the collective fundraising power of North Wales and North West communities and is a collaborative effort to increase funds for the North Wales Mountain Rescue Association (NWMRA).

GENVIRONMENTS

The NWMRA are a team of volunteers who give up considerable time training and

rescuing people across North Wales, and are an organisation that operate on donations who desperately need as much funding as they can get in order to take care of us when things don’t go to plan in the mountains. Running up until Sunday 29th May, there’s still time for you to get involved. This is an opportunity to get out in the North Wales hills with your team and help rebuild the bonds which have been damaged during COVID, and also improve mental health.

If you have any queries or if you would like to book your event date, please email: richard.lewis@ daviespartnership.co.uk We have raised a total of £295 so far and would greatly appreciate any donations before the end of the month. Click here to visit the JustGiving page.

You can download our information pack from our website by clicking here.

RETRO SPORTS DAY We had a great time participating in the Torus Foundation Retro Sports Day on Thursday 19th May at FireFit Youth and Community Hub in Toxteth. The event was organised and sponsored by some of our friends from across the

property and construction industry, and we were delighted to show our support. Our Fab Four consisted of Ryan, Kevin, Stephen and Lee who took part in a variety of races and courses battling it out against 23 other teams.

10

The event was created with the purpose of raising funds to support young people from across Liverpool to access special educational youth provision and access the Duke of Edinburgh programme, that would otherwise be inaccessible to some young people in the city.

25+1 BIRTHDAY PARTY We are very excited to be planning our 25+1 Birthday Party that will be taking place on Thursday 21st July at FIVE by EPIC & Masons. For those that don’t know, we celebrated our 25th anniversary last year but were unable to celebrate as we would have hoped to due to the restrictions in place.

We couldn’t let such a special occasion pass by without the appropriate celebrations, so we are all very much looking forward to a long overdue glass of champagne in July. Along with the 25+1 Birthday Party, we have plenty of other events in the pipeline to help keep the celebrations going. Keep an eye out on our social channels to stay updated.

Provided totally free of charge, the Hospice rely on the generosity of local communities through fundraising, donations, events, and corporate sponsorships.

The run attracted 120 cars from the pre 1981 era and covered 105 miles through North Wales and Cheshire countryside.

CHESHIRE CANDLES CHARITY RUN Our Chairman Phil Davies recently participated in the annual Cheshire Candles Charity Run, taking to the road in his red 1961 MGA Mk 2 Roadster.

The event was in support of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd who work tirelessly to provide care and support to those with a life limiting illness.

We were delighted to show our support and be a sponsor of the event, especially with the previous year’s run having to be cancelled. A total of £3,400 was raised for the Hospice with a fantastic day had by all.

FUNDRAISING FOR CLAIRE HOUSE As always, we were delighted to show our support and get involved with the annual Claire House Christmas Hat Day in December. Another great effort by our team with plenty of festive surprises this year including a Christmas Tree head and a Father Christmas who looks like they will be supporting Wales at the upcoming World Cup!

We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and having matched the total raised by our team, we were thrilled to raise a total of £780 to celebrate and support the fantastic work that the hospice do all year round.

RUTHLESS RACING We were at Aintree Racecourse earlier this month showing our continued support of Ruthless Racing – a classic Motorcycle racing team based in the North West. The team did a fantastic job of winning the 350 class and it was great to see our branding on the new leathers that the team are now wearing for the start of the season.

12

DUBLIN TO GALWAY CHARITY BIKE RIDE We are thrilled to have finally reorganised our Dublin to Galway Charity Bike Ride which will be taking place in September. Originally planned for 2020 but cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is safe to say that we are all very much looking forward to the trip this year. We will be riding across Ireland on the 9th and 10th of September before some welldeserved R&R in Galway on the 11th.

The event will be in support of our charity partner Claire House Children’s Hospice along with the Stroke Association. We will be sharing fundraising details on how you can show support over the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled on our socials. We have over 20 riders so far but if you are interested in joining us or would like more information, please feel free to get in touch with a member of our team or email: ryan.jones@daviespartnership.co.uk

CHESTER TO LIVERPOOL WARM-UP As a warm-up for the trip to Ireland, some of our team will be participating in the Chester to Liverpool Bike Ride on Sunday 3rd July. The 75-mile route will begin at Chester Football Club and will pass through Frodsham, Delamere Forest and the Wirral before finishing at Exchange Flags in Liverpool. The ride will be a similar distance to what the team will be cycling on Day One in Ireland when they cycle from Dublin to Athlone and will be a great opportunity to identify if they’re up to speed or need more training before September.

13

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY We celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8th March which gave us the opportunity to reflect on all of the inspirational women who we are lucky enough to have in our lives. From family, to members of our team, or simply a friend in the industry, we hope you all had an amazing day celebrating too. International Women’s Day is all about empowering women. It is a driving factor in helping to forge a gender equal world, celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias, and take action for equality. The theme for this year’s campaign was #BreakTheBias, and we are so proud to have a diverse and inclusive team with women leading from the f ront.

We are also very proud of the other women doing incredible things in our industry and helping to break the bias too. From engineers to architects, and surveyors to consultants, the industry is improving each year as we collectively look to inspire future generations and provide equal opportunities for all.

Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.

We can break the bias in our communities. We can break the bias in our workplaces. We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities. Together, we can all break the bias - on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond.

FIVE MINUTES WITH MIHAELA MOGLAN Mihaela is an Electrical Design Engineer and joined Davies Partnership in March 2022. Born in Romania, Mihaela completed university in 2010 where she gained a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering and then went on to work for a company that built large industrial plants across Romania. Mihaela moved to the UK in 2015 and worked for her previous company for 7 years before joining the Davies Partnership team. Q. How would you describe your job role? A. My main duties at Davies Partnership include the production of specifications, drawings, and reports associated with electrical building services installations. I listen closely to our clients to understand their requirements and communicate these effectively to my team to ensure we exceed expectations and add value. Q. How did you get into the industry? A. My father’s dream was for someone in the family to inherit his work and become an engineer like himself, so I made sure to fulfil his wish. Q. What advice would you give to your younger self? A. Believe in yourself and follow your dreams. When you are unsure of something personally or professionally, ask those

around you as there is no such thing as a “stupid” question. Q. What has been your favourite project to work on and why? A. I have been lucky to have worked on many interesting and different projects across a variety of sectors. I don’t have a preferred project, but I do love projects where I can learn something new. Q. What do you enjoy most about working for Davies Partnership? A. What I like most is the fact that the team are very kind, open and always willing to help. Whether it is a personal or professional matter. I like that everyone always has a smile on their face and there is a real family culture. Davies Partnership also focuses on work-life balance which is very important to me as a new mother.

15

#ENERGISINGENVIRONMENTS

Q. If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be? A. When I was younger my dream was to become a “Jack of all trades”. When I was growing up, I wanted to become a doctor and be able to help those in need. Nowadays, I am a different type of doctor and help those who need electrical supply in their buildings. Q. What are your interests/ hobbies outside of work? A. Outside of work, I like to cook and spend time with my daughter. Each day I learn something new from her. I also love to travel when I get the chance.

EVERTON STADIUM DEVELOPMENT UPDATE In November, we attended Everton’s headquarters in the Royal Liver Building for the Everton Stadium Development Update hosted by Downtown in Business. Senior Figures from Everton and Laing O’Rourke explained the fantastic progress being made at Bramley Moore including how the initial concept is becoming a reality, touching on the hurdles the Club has overcome, and the

opportunities that lie ahead such as the development of the Northern area of the city and the community-led legacy project at Goodison Park. The project will no doubt transform the city in terms of regeneration and tourism, and we’re looking forward to keeping up to date with the latest developments over the next few years.

16

CIBSE ANFIELD LUNCHEON We were thrilled to be back at Anfield in March for the annual CIBSE Luncheon. After a three-year delay due to postponements and restrictions, it was great to be back in the room with so many of our friends f rom across Merseyside, the North West and North Wales.

The trip to Anfield - usually a grim experience for the blues wasn’t all doom and gloom this time thanks to a brilliant guest speech from Kev the Rat. The former Everton and Wales LeftBack for those not quite in the know.

WREXHAM SPONSORSHIP As always, we are delighted to show our continued support and sponsorship of the mighty Wrexham AFC. With a few proud Season ticket holders in the Davies Partnership team, it has been a pleasure to invite some of our clients along to recent fixtures.

Occasionally, we are grateful to receive a signed shirt such as that f rom super Paul Mullin that our Operations Director Peter Lyke and Technical and Quality Director Richard Lewis can be seen pictured with below.

Most notably, the 6-5 thriller against Dover Athletic which featured a 91st minute equaliser and a 98th minute winner for the town. A game to definitely cure the hangover from the CIBSE Luncheon the night before. As part of our ongoing sponsorship, we feature in the match day programmes and have our branding showcased on the LED Boards around the pitch.

17

It wasn’t Wrexham’s day at Wembley on Sunday 22nd May missing out on the FA Trophy after a 1-0 defeat to Bromley, but still a terrific season for the town nonetheless.

PROJECT NEWS

CE MIDLANDS WINNER Fantastic news for our state-of-the-art teaching hub project at Meole Brace School in Shrewsbury which won the Net Zero Award at the Constructing Excellence Midlands Awards on 12th May.

Our Operations Director Peter Lyke was in attendance on the evening alongside some of the team we had the pleasure of working with at Read Construction, PSG, TACP Architects, HLM Architects and JP Civil & Structural Design.

The project formed part of Shropshire Council’s ambition to create sustainable education provision with future school expansions and successfully achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. The Vanguard Building was designed to ensure Net Zero Operational Carbon and was built to achieve the internationally respected Passivhaus standard.

PAULS MOSS EXTRA CARE In Shropshire, we are working on the ground-breaking £19million Pauls Moss Extra Care development which will see the provision of a highquality Extra Care Apartment facility complete with an adjacent Medical Centre.

The development will provide the Whitchurch area with modern health and care services and bring the existing GP practice into a modern, purpose-built centre and community space.

18

Davies Partnership were the appointed MEP Consultant for the scheme with our Sustainability team advising on the Zero Carbon and Passivhaus requirements. This included bespoke detailing in relation to the building fabric, cold bridging, and junctions to achieve the Passivhaus criteria and low air permeability criteria.

MONA DAIRY We have been assisting Mona Dairy on a variety of work packages as part of their £20million Cheese Factory development in Anglesey, North Wales.

Our Mariners Park project in Wallasey has been submitted for planning so we will be keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy planning approval. The project involves the construction of a three-storey residential development consisting of 27 apartments split across the ground and first two floors, with the third floor dedicated to office space.

PLANNING GRANTED FOR LEA GREEN STATION We are thrilled that our sustainable transport scheme at Lea Green station in St Helens has been granted planning. The project will provide improved facilities for passengers and encourage people to use more sustainable modes of transport.

Upgrades will include a new station building and waiting room, doubling the capacity for park and ride at the station to 450 spaces, the creation of dedicated pedestrian and cycling routes, and changes to the Bull and Dog junction.

#ENERGISINGENVI

The £14.8m project is funded through the Transforming Cities

19
