The New News By: Ashley Ogle, Maddie Gay, and Isabella Minaya The 5th and 6th grade newspaper club is making a cool new newspaper called “The Patriot Post” just for the 5th and 6th graders. Welcome to our first edition! Some of our article features this month include a teacher of the month, a student of the month, a student athlete feature, cartoons, jokes, sport schedules, and
games. The club meets in Mrs. Mullineaux’s room on Wednesday afternoons during last period. “I think it’s [newspaper club] fun because you can actually create a newspaper and write articles about what is happening at school,” said Maddie Gay, newspaper staff member and 6th grader. The newspaper staff is
excited to interview people, write about the news, having choice in the subject matter, and learn about what it takes to make a newspaper.

Get to Know Ms. Cook! By: Maddie Gay and Isabella Minaya Mrs. Cook was born in 1990 in New York City. Her favorite color is blue, and she has a dog named Lucy. Her favorite food is Chinese, and her favorite desert is cherry cheesecake. If Mrs. Cook could meet anybody in the world she would meet Jane Austen. Her favorite animals are dolphins. Her favorite subjects when she was in school were math and social studies.

Mrs. Cook chose to teach math because she enjoyed math in school. She thinks math is one of the most important subjects because you use it a lot in life. She has been a teacher for two years!

Student Athlete Feature!

Taylor is in the 6th grade an d plays volleyball for Davidson Day School. Taylor’s favorite thing about volleyball is that she loves learning new skills because that makes her a better player. Taylor loves playing for the school because not only does she get to see her friends in actual school but she gets to see them when she is doing something she loves. Taylor loves all her teammates becau se they are very nice and are go od sports, even when someon e makes a mistake. Ms. Meric al is the team coach, and Ta ylor loves her because she encou rages and cheers them on ev ery step of the way. Volleyball is one of her favorite sports be cause not only is there a lot of fitness, but you can have a lot of fun.
Taylor loves the volleyball ga mes. She likes the games better than the practices be cause she gets to see how oth er girls play volleyball and not just her and her teammates. Taylor has lots of games coming up which she is very excited about. Taylor is number two on her jersey, so if you go to one of her volleyball games, be on the lookout for Taylor. Taylor also likes playing the games because it’s a new team every time and she can learn a lot of skills. Also, every team is a different level so sometimes Taylor gets the thrill of winning or the disappointment of losing. Either way you learn from it. As you can see Taylor is very devoted to volleyball.
