FROM THE CHAIR AND THE HEAD We present to you the impact of your philanthropy, the 2020– 2021 Annual Report from Davidson Day. We are grateful to all of our families and friends who chose to contribute to the enrichment of our Patriot students. The 2020–2021 year was certainly a memorable one, and your investment in our school community and support of our students is laudable.

In our report, we will share how your gifts enhanced our academic curriculum, expanded our technology capabilities, accelerated the professional development of our faculty and staff, and enriched the special, distinctive programs that provide opportunities for all Patriots to benefit from an education that goes beyond boundaries. Your partnership through giving to the Enrichment Fund and to other philanthropic efforts made all of this possible.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT With the inherent uncertainty at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, I wondered how our fundraising efforts in support of our students would go. I am pleased and extremely grateful to share that you—our donors—exceeded all expectations and helped us far surpass our goal.

We set a fundraising target of $325,000 to raise through the Enrichment Fund and other projects. These unrestricted dollars were slated to support all aspects of our students' education, with a particular focus on COVID-related expenses, technology, professional development for teachers, classroom resources, and special programs.

Through your generosity, we raised more than $400,000! In addition to our planned investments, we were able to provide additional health and safety features, curricular enhancements, and specialized training for all our faculty. The following pages will highlight examples of how your donations made a difference for our students. In reality, though, the impact of your

Davidson Day School completed the 2020-2021 school year in a healthy financial position. With an operational budget supported through tuition, fundraising, and miscellaneous sources,

the

school

provided

a

superior

educational

experience for its students primarily through faculty and staff compensation, facility operations and improvements, and resource allocation for academics, arts, and athletics. The school's focus on fiscal stewardship while fulfilling its mission enabled it to offer innovative, personalized learning that unlocks student potential.

WHAT YOUR GIFT DID The students in Laura Wood's Digital Photography classes regularly produce incredible pieces of photographic art. But the opportunities to develop their creativity have increased through the acquisition of new Nikon D7500 camera bodies, a variety of Nikon lenses, a softbox lighting kit and handheld lights, and a range of accessories from tripods to hard drives. This new gear supplements an already stellar program, allowing the students to more easily apply the professional-level

WHAT YOUR GIFT DID Courtney Chambers, our Lower School STEM teacher, attended a professional development workshop titled "Story Time STEM." She learned strategies to connect children's literature with hands-on science experiments. Implementing her training, she then presented a lesson to our Eaglets integrating the book Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh into a color-mixing experiment. Students used test tubes and color fizzers to create chemical reactions, make scientific predictions, and explore the immiscible nature of oil and water. By the end, each student had a test tube lava lamp!
