PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS Offered by DAVIDSON-DAVIE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, our career-centered courses are organized into educational “pathways” designed to help you make the smartest decisions based on your interest and what careers are available locally and across North Carolina and the southeast U.S. If you’re not sure what’s right for you, our advisors will help you figure it out. Once you decide on a general area of interest, explore different career pathways as you aim for the career calling your name. The main thing to remember is that all courses are designed to give you practical, real-world knowledge and skills while preparing you to pursue a career with the confidence and qualifications necessary to get to work.
DIG IN. FIGURE OUT. GO FORWARD. One of the benefits of career-focused education is the chance to get “real world” understanding of an industry as you dig deeply into a specific career. Highly experienced teachers will share their real-world wisdom as you learn the required skills for a career. Then get ready for exciting hands-on learning—in real work spaces with high-tech equipment—as you focus on your specialized interest that can lead to a variety of careers such as Pharmacy Assistant, Victims Advocate, Pre-School Teacher, Aquarium Manager, Quality Control Technician, or Water and Resource Specialist.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Pharmacy Technology The Pharmacy Technology program prepares individuals to assist the pharmacist in duties that a technician can legally perform and to function within the boundaries prescribed by the pharmacist and the employment agency. Students will prepare prescription medications, mix intravenous solutions and other specialized medications, update patient profiles, maintain inventories, package medications in unit-dose or medi-card form, and gather data used by pharmacists to monitor drug therapy.
HOW LONG IT TAKES: 3 semesters for a diploma 4 semesters for a degree
WHERE THE JOBS ARE: Retail pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, research laboratories, wholesale drug companies, and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
Human Services Technology The Human Services Technology Program prepares our students for entry level positions in social services, advocacy, health support, wellness, case management, addictions, education etc. in non-profit agencies. Our Substance Abuse Certtificate prepares students for work in out-patient and inpatient treatment and education programs.
HOW LONG IT TAKES: 3 semesters for a certificate and diploma; 4 semesters for a degree
WHERE THE JOBS ARE: Mental health, child care, family services, social services, rehabilitation, correction, and educational agencies
Dental Assisting The Dental Assisting curriculum prepares individuals to assist the dentist in the delivery of dental treatment and to function as integral members of the dental team while performing chairside and related office and laboratory procedures.
HOW LONG IT TAKES: 3 semesters for a diploma

Early Childhood Education The Early Childhood Education curriculum prepares individuals to work with children from birth through eight in diverse learning environments. Students will combine learned theories with practice in actual settings with young children under the supervision of qualified teachers.

Aquarium Science Technology The Aquarium Science Technology program focuses on the application of technical skills in the fields of animal management, conservation and education in an aquarium setting.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
The Electronics Engineering Technology curriculum prepares the students to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills to become technicians who design, build, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic components, equipment, and systems such as industrial/computer controls, manufacturing systems, communication systems, and power electronic systems.

Sustainable Agriculture The sustainable agriculture curriculum is designed to provide the entrepreneurial and technical skills necessary to manage a profitable, environmentally sound, community-based small farm or agricultural business.

Paralegal Technology The Paralegal Technology curriculum prepares individuals to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing routine legal tasks and assisting with substantive legal work. A paralegal/ legal assistant may not practice law, give legal advice, or represent clients in a court of law.
HOW LONG IT TAKES: 1 to 2 terms for a certificate 4 terms for an Associate’s Degree
WHERE THE JOBS ARE: Law firms, corporate legal departments, state and federal governments, insurance companies, and freelancing

Automotive Systems Technology The Automotive Systems Technology curriculum prepares individuals for employment as entry-level transportation service technicians. Graduates of the curriculum should be prepared to take professional licensure exams (ASE), and to enter careers as entry-level technicians in the automotive industry.

Information Technology The Information Technology (IT) curriculum prepares graduates for employment in the technology sector as Help Desk Support Technicians, Computer Systems Administrators/Technicians/Analysts/Specialists, Network Administrators/Technicians/Analysts/ Specialists who use computer software and/or hardware to design, process, implement and manage information systems in specialties such as , security, business intelligence, healthcare informatics and others depending on the technical path selected within this curriculum.
