Bushmeat poaching saw a significant rise during the month of June, which is in part to the new desnaring teams recently joining the SWT taskforce. Both the Galana team and the Shompole team made arrests of syndicates of bushmeat poachers with vehicles and motorbikes confiscating bushmeat weighing over 700kgs between them. In total 836kg of bushmeat was confiscated in June. 15 arrests were made by all the teams including the arrest of 14 bushmeat poachers and 1 charcoal burner. From these arrests the teams confiscated a high number of poaching weapons and tools as well as motorbikes used by poaching syndicates. Other activities during the month included tackling ongoing illegal charcoal production where 7 kilns were found and destroyed as well as 40 sacks of charcoal. 5 bushfires were also attended to along with 13 cases of Human-Elephant Conflict on the borders of the parks. In total 5 elephant carcasses were found and 34kg of ivory was confiscated and handed over to KWS for safekeeping. This month the Mobile South team took annual leave whilst the Kajiado, Mtito, Ithumba and Ziwani teams worked part of the month. The rest of the teams were operating fulltime.
