In!August!the!teams!lifted!1717!snares!including!35!bird!traps,!which!seems!to!be!becoming!a!more! common!poaching!method!in!the!Northern!Area!of!Tsavo!East.!The!teams!made!47!arrests!during!the! month!including!23!bushmeat!poachers,!confiscating!370kg!of!bushmeat,!most!of!which!was!bushbuck! and!eland!meat.!Other!arrests!included!7!livestock!herders,!5!woodcarvers,!3!loggers,!1!fisherman,!1! charcoal!burner!and!3!trespassers.!They!also!arrested!4!men!for!theft!who!were!caught!trying!to!steal! solar!panels!and!pumps!from!an!SWT!water!project.!! !

Other!illegal!activities!the!teams!attended!to!included!destroying!16!illegal!livestock!enclosures!erected! inside!the!parks!and!protected!areas!by!herders.!Destroying!26!charcoal!kilns,!13!poachers’!hideouts! and!14!other!camps.!The!teams!also!discovered!4!elephant!carcasses!and!recovered!ivory!weighing!

22.9kgs,!which!was!handed!over!to!KWS!for!safekeeping.! !

August!also!saw!the!teams!help!the!Veterinary!Units!with!the!treatment!of!1!buffalo,!1!elephant,!1!lion! and!2!zebras.!The!teams!also!responded!to!2!bushfires,!3!cases!of!livestock!predation,!1!problem!hippo! straying!into!a!community!area!as!well!as!7!problem!elephants.! !

In!August!the!Yatta!and!Chyulu!Mobile!team!were!on!annual!leave!whilst!Chyulu,!Dakadima,!Galana!

Kulalu!2,!Mobile!North,!Shompole,!Sobo!and!Umbi!teams!worked!part!of!the!month.!The!rest!of!the! teams!were!operating!fulltime.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
