COMMUNITY OUTREACH MONTHLY REPORT

MAY 2018 BEEHIVE FENCES Bee farmers have reported to have greatly benefited from the beehive fence project initiated by the DSWT in 2015, especially during this period of harvest.

Elephants which intended to invade farms have been reported to have been kept away by the bee fence in the villages where DSWT has put the fence line. This month, the community outreach team spent two days for inspection and maintenance, as well as applying the local Basil Genovese herb to facilitate more occupancy of bees to DSWT hives.

SCHOOL TRIPS The DSWT sponsored 10 school trips this month offering a chance to new schools that have had yet to have the chance to visit their national parks.

Students who participated in field trips were issued with wildlife field booklets to help in spotting varied species of wildlife as well as teaching them about the unique features of the Tsavo Ecosystem. During each trip, at least 25 students were accompanied by a maximum of 5 teachers to the park.
