Gomphrena globosa (Globe amaranth) is an easy to grow annual and it matures fairly quickly. It is a compact plant with upward growing stems that produce cheerful clover-like bracts in a lovely magenta color over a long bloom period from June to frost. These bracts are attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.

A nice sharp spade is one of the most important tools in a gardener’s shed. What is the difference between a spade and a shovel? A spade is generally shorter than a shovel and has a flat blade with straight edges that are not angled forward. It is great for shaping and edging your garden beds, cutting or removing sod, and digging trenches. A spade can also be used for transplanting and dividing perennials or ornamental grasses. At Gasper, we have a large selection of spades (as well as shovels, trowels and other garden tools).

A pollinator is an insect or an animal that helps to pollinate flowers by moving pollen from flower to flower. You might know that bees are pollinators, but birds, bats, butterflies, moths, flies, beetles, wasps, and even some small mammals can also be pollinators. Pollinators are so important because 75% of the world’s flowering plants and up to ⅓ of food crops rely on them to reproduce and set fruit or seed. In other words, one out of every three bites of food that you take, relies on pollinators, so they are not only pretty but essential to our environment. Butterflies are beautiful pollinators which you can attract to your home with a few simple steps. Not only are you helping to support a necessary population of pollinators, but with some easy tips you can encourage these and other beautiful pollinators to call your yard their home, allowing you to enjoy their presence throughout the spring and summer season.
Choose a sunny location when planning your pollinator garden.
Choose an area that is sheltered from harsh wind
Avoid planting near bird feeders and bird houses
Eliminate the use of non-organic pesticides and herbicides
For butterflies, incorporate a variety of plants that attract both caterpillars, as well as the adult butterflies, such as milkweed (Asclepias ssp.) species, which are the host plants for the beloved Monarch butterfly in its caterpillar stage.
When feasible, plant in groupings with various pollinator-friendly plants, as pollinators are more likely to see and become attracted to masses of color.
Plant for a succession of flowers to ensure blooming plants all season long. Not only is this aesthetically pleasing but will also ensure that your garden is able to provide butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators with a continuous food source from spring up until fall.

ZINNIAS highly attract butterflies and other beneficial insects. Zinnias are one of the most colorful flowers that we can have in our garden. They grow quickly and they are pretty easy to grow everywhere.
Annual flowers create season-long consistency and focus on your landscape. In an annual garden bed, plant the tallest flowers at the back, especially if the back of the bed is against a fence or shrub barrier. In front of the tallest flowers, plant flowers that are slightly shorter. The shortest flowers should be planted in front.

Mohlenbergia capillaris (Pink Muhly Grass)
A clump-forming, warm season, perennial grass forming surreal clouds of vibrant pink to pinkish-red flower panicles from early to late fall. Resembling cotton candy, the large, airy, open inflorescences, half as long as the entire plant, float gracefully above the dark green, basal foliage of finely textured leaves. I always like to use teak furniture in my designs because it is something I refer to as lifetime pieces because they truly last my clients a lifetime. As the area’s exclusive retailer of two of the premium teak furniture manufacturers in the world, Kingsley-Bate and Barlow Tyrie, I know that I can find any style of teak furniture you are looking for.
While teak, is an investment, I always like to say it is like buying your last set first, because it honestly will last that long.

The short answer is you have to do absolutely nothing except wait — for about 9 months. Teak furniture, when left untreated and out in the elements will naturally weather to a beautiful silvery-grey patina. I personally find the patina to be very attractive and, believe it or not, I have had customers asking me if they could purchase already weathered teak furniture. Teak wood is ingrained with natural oils that make it very durable and rot and insect resistant, but some of those oils can bleed out following the first few rainfalls so we recommend bringing in the cushions or moving sling chairs out from under teak tables for the first few rainfalls.
If you like the golden-brown look of unweathered teak, you can use a product like Kingsley Bate Teak Protector (which we carry in the Gasper Exterior Furnishings Studio). The product is purely for cosmetic purposes and will maintain the golden brown color for approximately one season after which you will need to reapply it.
While obtaining that silver patina is easy and effortless on your part, I do recommend that you clean your teak periodically throughout the season.

The design for John and Judy’s new patio by Gasper Landscape Designer, Nick Lupinacci, incorporated three different outdoor ‘rooms’ in the patio to mimic the corresponding rooms inside the house. By breaking down the larger patio into distinctive areas, each area feels more intimate without sacrificing the space and flow needed for when John and Judy are hosting their five kids and grandchildren.
You want the same thing outside in a living room that you do inside the house--comfortable seating arranged to encourage good conversation and relaxation. A fire feature is like a powerful outdoor magnet; everyone will be drawn to it!
