For the past five years individuals, groups and organisations across the UK have been actively working to create dementiafriendly communities in order to provide inclusive and supportive environments for people living with dementia, their families and carers in their local community.

From local shops to large cities, faith communities to schools; there are inspirational stories of people and organisations making positive change for people with dementia.

As one of the Mayor’s charities for this year, Petersfield Town Fc have decided to adopt and fund raise, raising the profile and working towards becoming a Dementia friendly environment.

Look out for news of events and how you can help, join in and raise much needed funds for this growing issue in our communities.

Petersfield Town FC will feature Dementia Friendly on the back of this seasons new football shirts.

Across the country thousands of eager young men flocked to serve their King & Country and soon battalions comprising of those who had enlisted together in local recruiting drives, with the promise that they would all be able to serve alongside one another, sprang up. The popular press of the time dubbed these as PALS BATTALIONS. In August 1914 the Portsmouth Citizens Patriotic Recruiting Committee chaired by the Lord Mayor J H Corke called upon the men of the city not already occupied in essential war work to form Portsmouth’s Own battalion. It was not long before the city, including the surrounding areas of Gosport, Havant, Cosham, Petersfield etc. had raised two battalions. Formally known as 14th& 15th (Portsmouth) Battalions Hampshire Regiment like the other Pals battalions which formed a major part of Kitchener’s ‘New Army’ they saw service on the Western Front from the middle years of the war, and would face a baptism of fire on the killing grounds of the Somme.

Originally set up in partnership with Portsmouth Football Club to produce a lasting memorial to the the Portsmouth Battalions, the POMPEY PALS PROJECT is now a 'stand alone' organisation which aims to commemorate all those men & women from the Portsmouth region who served in any capacity during the Great War, whether at home or overseas. We are always happy to hear from anyone who had family members who served during the 1914 - 1918 war.

With military links from a number of serving and ex servicemen in the football club, a link directly to football and right into the heart of our local History. We thought that we could profile the achievements and recognition of local heroes that fought and are remembered in the great war.

As a parent what is is your motivation for your child, why join a football team?, what do you expect from your coach? how do you teach defeat? to win graciously? to be humble not arrogant?, ultimately what do you say to your son, daughter. boyfriend or girlfriend just before a game?
