Ullswater Steamers Ullswater Steamers (at Pier House, Glenridding) offeri visitors an experience they will never forget. There are excellent facilities, both onboard and at the Pier Houses. Ullswater runs a serpentine course for eight miles through expansive vistas of Lakeland’s highest mountains. Helvellyn at 3,117ft crowns Ullswater, at the South-Western end of the valley, standing on a mighty plateau approximately nine miles in length and 4.5 miles wide. The Steamers combine a cruise with some of the most famous and spectacular walks in the Lake District National Park.

Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Steam to the hills onboard England’s longest narrow gauge heritage Steam Railway. This will delight all ages - with seven miles of ever changing countryside and coastal scenery from the Western Lake District Coastal village of Ravenglass to England’s highest mountains at the terminus station. Journey from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park, across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stop (with a 1:55 gradient at times) en route to your final destination, Dalegarth-for-Boot Station.

Bassenthwaite Lake

Bassenthwaite Lake is the largest and only true lake in the Lake District - the others are all ‘meres’ or ‘waters’. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest it is home to many species of wildlife. In 2001, An Osprey viewpoint has been set up at the Forestry Commission’s Dodd Wood, near Keswick, which also offers magnificent views over Bassenthwaite Lake.
