Horoscopes

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Your finances are likely to be in spectacular order and, as a result of this, personal relationships will benefit and your own inner peace and harmony will be restored. You will feel extremely positive and optimistic for the future. People will be drawn to you for your good humour and sensible advice.

Taurus (April 20-May 20) This is a period where your family is likely to need your attention more than ever. A younger member of the family could need some help and support. You could find that you lose your temper more easily over trivial things. Try to remain calm and rational at all times.

Gemini (May 21-June 20) You will be in a positive frame of mind and your focus is likely to be on the persona you project to other people. If you dissect your past mistakes you could easily make amends for any indiscretions. It is well within your capabilities to improve your sense of well-being and correct past errors.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) You may feel the need to seek out meditation, Yoga or Reiki healing. Certainly, you could feel the need to slow down since the pace of your life and career has become very fast of late. You may recognise the signs that it’s time to take a break and chill out and take some time away from it all.

Leo (July 23-August 22) What a lovely time for romance! Leos could find themselves falling easily and effortlessly in love. For those less impressionable, there could be an opportunity to rekindle things with an old flame who turns up out of the blue. This period could allow an opportunity for a trip down memory lane.

Virgo (August 23-September 22) This could be a tricky period where you will struggle with work colleagues and with changes in your work circumstances. You might well seek advice from your seniors and you would be advised to listen very carefully to what they have to say. If you ignore this advice you are likely to feel even more bewildered.

Libra (September 23-October 22) This is the perfect time to start a detox programme and get yourself back into shape, your Libra portents suggest. If you have neglected visits to the gym or engaging in physical activity then this month is perfect for getting yourself back on track.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21) Be prepared to dress up and get your party clothes out for a whirl of social engagements including date nights, parties, events and functions. Your feet won’t touch the ground and you will be happy in the company of others. You will be in high spirits and nothing is likely to dampen your morale.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) Try to be as determined and as focused as you can this month. There may be deadlines which need to be met as well as promises which have to be kept. Your criteria for success could be based on a balanced approach, so allow yourself sufficient time to accomplish any tasks that may lie ahead.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19) If you have been puzzling over what you really want out of life and you’ve been pondering events out of your control, your mind should feel less anxious and you will gain some of the clarity which you have been searching for. Certainly, you will feel more optimistic about your position in life.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18) Your friends and family will need you at this time. The likelihood is that you will need them too. Ths is set to be a relaxing time for Aquarians where time is spent with friends and family - so enjoy yourself and relax, take time out and not feel guilty about it.

Pisces (February 19-March 20) You may find yourself questioning things and going over and over the same ground during this period There could be some confusion over what course of action to take. It is probably best to take time out to consider it rationally rather than making a rash decision.

The Moss Man is in town I decided to hire the Moss Man to tidy up my front paved garden. Small as it is it was looking quite aged since being paved over a decade ago. I had thought of having them replaced, involving great labour and cost.

I noticed the Moss Man offered a driveway cleaning service from £99 so I gave him a call. Paul arrived promptly, along with his deputy and set about spraying a cleaning chemical on the slabs which once dry will have been harmless to my dog. I immediately saw an improvement as they got to work.

The treatment also killed all of the weeds that annoyingly popped up every week so no more weeding for me. No shot blasting involved either, a messy business spraying dirt up against windows and walls, this chemical solution has had an astonishing effect and I’ve included both before and after pics so that you can see for yourself. I am so impressed with this service and I cannot believe I’ve left it so long. Try it for yourself, 01507 463 336. The Moss Man covers all areas within our delivery radius.

Win a pair of tickets to see

The Human League

at Hull Zebedee’s Yard on Saturday August 24th, 2019 The Human League are so credible it’s incredible. In fact, they’re probably more highly regarded in 2019 than they were in 1981 when they released their landmark album Dare! They’re used to everyone from Madonna to Moby, Pet Shop Boys to Robbie Williams, citing them as an influence. Now the dubstep

generation have begun to pay homage to the original sound of Sheffield. “We’re peculiar,” says Phil Oakey. “People think pop music is X Factor and S Club 7 and we’re still hankering after a Roxy-BowieDonna Summer-Chic version of pop. We don’t fit in. People don’t quite appreciate how strange we are. There are three of us, two of whom have never written a song

and are pretty average singers, plus we’ve got a lead singer who doesn’t consider himself a singer at all and can’t play any instruments very well. And yet we still think of ourselves as a pop group. We shouldn’t have gone on this long as we have - we should have ‘gone rock’ by now, like Depeche Mode, Simple Minds and U2 did. But we’re still a pop group.”

Not just a pop group - possibly the last great pop group.

To be in with a chance of winning the tickets, just answer the following question: When did the Human League release their landmark album ‘Dare’? Saturday 24th August 2019; Hull Zebedee’s Yard; Box Office No: 0844 249 1000 Website: http://www.vmstickets.co.uk; Gates Open - 5.00pm; General Price - £35.00 /VIP Tickets - £55.00 Send your answer, along with your contact details, to: insideskegness@yahoo.com - Closing date July 22, 2019 To advertise text advert to 07868 433 225

Top barbecue tips

Want to make sure your food is cooked to perfection, your guests have a good time and you enjoy it, too? Here’s how...

For flaky fish, such as salmon, press the flesh with your finger or a fork to check that the flakes come apart, indicating that it is ready.

Light the barbecue before the guests arrive

Rest the meat

Even have some grilling under way - maybe just a few bites. At the very least, your guests will arrive to the tantalising smell of the debris burning off the barbecue grills.

Stay with your barbecue Stay for as long as you are grilling, for the best results and for safety’s sake. You won’t get lonely. Chefs never do. There are always a handful of invariably male - guests who huddle around giving their chefs advice. Barbecuing is theatre.

Use great basic ingredients During spring and summer your lawn is actively growing and so requires feeding, so when you prepare your lawn for summer try using a proprietary spring or summer fertiliser to encourage vigour and reduce the growth of moss and weeds.

Lose fridge chill Always give enough time out of the fridge, at least 20 minutes, for raw

18

barbecue dishes to lose their chill and to be approaching room temperature. If the meat, chicken, fish or vegetable is too cold in the centre, the outside may well burn before the inside is cooked.

Resting meats after barbecuing is as essential a part of the barbecuing process as any other. If you were to eat a steak directly off the barbecue, it would be tough and juices would flow out the moment you prodded it with your steak knife. Leaving it to rest for a few minutes allows the meat sinews to reabsorb the juices. Rest the meat on a warmed tray on the top rack or away from the direct heat covered with perforated foil.

Temperature control during grilling

All set? Good, then you’re ready to turn up the heat ...

Control the proximity of the food to the coals. If you can, use a rack system with three different heights and moveable grills and hinged sandwich racks. If not, shuffle your grilling food around from hot patches to cooler parts of the rack, or place the food on foil to slow things down.

To light the fire without resorting to firelighters, scrunch up three or four double pages of newspaper and place in the barbecue trough under a good handful of kindling. Place a few chunks of charcoal on top and light the paper. When you have a flame from the wood, sprinkle charcoal on the top in a pile like a bonfire. Let this burn for 15-20 minutes with your barbecue rack above it. You are ready to grill when smoking has abated and the embers are glowing. Goodquality charcoal will last up to an hour.

Gardens

Test for ‘doneness’ Using a small sharp knife, cut into the centre of the meat (down to the bone if there is one), to check that the flesh is cooked and juices are running clear.

Every day thousands of people put their lives in the hands of medical professionals so when errors occur it can be difficult to know who to turn to. It is commonly assumed that a Solicitor is not the first person you should turn to, but at Hodgkinsons Solicitors we believe that we are and here is why. Our Medical Negligence Solicitors believe in helping those who have suffered from a medical error which could have easily been avoided had the correct procedures and policies been followed. Our team of Solicitors, who are specialists in this area of Law, have genuine expertise of the full spectrum of Medical Negligence Litigation. Their attention to detail and ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a case enable them to deal effectively with complex Medical Negligence Claims to ensure their Clients receive only an excellent standard of service. Our Solicitors understand the impact that negligence can have, therefore, they are familiar with any concerns raised by Clients when it comes to receiving a poor standard of medical treatment, making them the perfect professional to handle the situation.

Medical Negligence Claims can be very complicated, which is why our Solicitors are on hand to take care of your case in an efficient and straightforward manner. Your Solicitor will guarantee that any work undertaken on your file will be done so thoroughly to ensure that your Claim is successful. Once you have instructed your Solicitor, they will assess your case and determine whether you have the grounds to bring a Claim. Throughout the Claims process your Solicitor will help you to collate evidence in the form of detailed statements, medical records, x-rays, notes, correspondence and medical opinions. Your Solicitor will continuously keep you informed throughout the progress of your case and provide you with their expert advice on the next steps to take in a clear and straightforward manner to ensure your full understanding of the same. Whilst less than 1% of all Medical Negligence Claims in the UK go to a full trial, if this was to happen in your case, your Solicitor will lodge the Claim at Court whilst being on hand every step of the way to provide you with advice and guidance. Our Solicitors will obtain compensation for not only your resulting injuries but also any financial losses you may have incurred due to the negligence. They will also help you to prepare for life afterwards by advising you on any future care and treatment which has been recommended. We aim to put you back into a position you would have otherwise been in, had the negligence not occurred. We have expertise in pursuing Claims against NHS Hospitals and Private Practices for those located in Lincolnshire and beyond.

SKEGNESS FRAMING We offer a complete framing and mount service for all your artwork, memorabilia, sport shirts, cross stitch, tapestry objects and anything else you can think of. Local and friendly service.

Pets Taking your pet on holiday If you are planning on taking your pet on holiday this summer, or if they are going in to kennels, make sure you are prepared!

Pet passport If you are planning on taking your dog, cat (or ferret!) abroad, they will need a pet passport before they can travel. The passport must be issued by a vet, and your pet must have a microchip and a rabies vaccination. Passport costs from just £39.99 plus the stamping fee. We advise you book an appointment for passport completion to ensure it is as smooth as possible.

Rabies vaccination Rabies was eradicated from the UK over 100 years ago. There is no need to vaccinate animals that are not going abroad, but in order to protect our rabies-free status, any animal travelling outside of the UK will need vaccinating against this. Your pet must be at least 12weeks old to receive this vaccination, and it can be given at the same time as the usual annual booster vaccinations. Your pet is not allowed to travel for the first 21 days after the first

44

vaccination, so make sure you plan this in advance of your intended travel date! The cost of a rabies vaccination is £30.00

Microchip It is now a legal requirement that all dogs in England and Wales must be microchipped, so if your dog isn’t microchipped yet, regardless of where you are travelling this summer, you should make this a priority, If you are going abroad, your pet will need to be microchipped either before or at the time of the rabies vaccination.

Annual vaccination We recommend vaccination for dogs and cats all year round, but if your pet is going into kennels or to a private pet sitter whilst you go away you will need proof that they are up to date. If you dog or cat has not had any vaccinations before, or they have missed their last booster vaccination, they will need 2 vaccinations 3 weeks apart. Full vaccination course range from £34.99 onwards, Health check and annual booster vaccination from around £24.99.

Flea and tick treatment Whether your pet is going abroad

Please mention Inside Skegness Magazine when responding to advertisements

or going to kennels, we recommend flea and tick treatment year-round. The number of fleas and ticks in the environment increases during the summer months so ensure your pet is up to date with treatment.

Tapeworm treatment Before returning to the UK, dogs must be treated for tapeworm (noted in the passport as “Echinoccocus treatment”). The treatment must be administered by a vet 120-24 hours before travelling back. The vet will sign and write the date and time in the passport. We recommend all pets are given appropriate worm treatment regularly, if regular advocate spot-on is used, a worming tablet only needs to be given every 6 months.

Travelling outside the EU If you intend on travelling outside of the EU, it is important to plan this with plenty of notice. A special import certificate may be required, and your pet may need blood tests and specific treatment before travel. If you are planning on going abroad, please call in or phone for advice from a vet so we can make sure all the requirements are met.

MINI Cooper Classic 2019 T

he original Mini launched nearly 60 years ago to the day. Since then, it’s been completely reimagined by parent company BMW; available in more kit and colour combinations than you can shake a stick at. But now, MINI wants to simplify the order process. Instead of offering endless individual options, you now pick the packs that best suit your needs. Here, we’re driving the expected big seller: the MINI Cooper Classic.

to dial in a few option packs; even those coming from more mainstream brands might wince at the Classic’s rather

miserly kit list. Which brings us neatly to step four. There are five packs to choose from, with the £900 Comfort Pack (heated seats, parking sensors, etc) and the Navigation Pack (sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and an upgraded stereo) – also £900 – expected to be particularly popular. Both of these are available as ‘Plus’ packs, adding extra equipment for an additional fee. The final kit bundle is the Driving Assistance Pack, which adds things like camera-based autonomous emergency braking.

The MINI was facelifted last year, and while there are no mechanical changes following the trim restructure, all models get a bit more standard equipment. Every version now gets automatic headlamps and MINIbranded puddle lights, while inside all cars boast adjustable ambient lighting. Buying a new MINI now comprises a five-step procedure. As ever, you’ll first need to choose the model that suits your needs (Hatch, Convertible, Clubman, Countryman), followed by your desired engine (One, Cooper, Cooper S). Things differ when you get to step three, at which point you’re asked to select Classic, Sport or Exclusive. Classic is comparable to Audi’s SE trim; all cars get a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. Prices start from £16,190 for a three-door MINI One Classic. Above this sit Sport and Exclusive. Priced on par with one another, the former gets a racier design, while the latter boasts a more luxury-focused aesthetic. Sport cars get a body kit, bigger wheels, Sports Suspension, special seats and a black headlining. Exclusive cars are set apart by their MINI Yours Lounge leather, bespoke trim and chrome flourishes. Presumably, MINI still expects buyers

At this time of year, the Comfort Pack fitted to our car is worth its weight in gold. The heated seats warm up quickly, and the dual-zone climate control allows driver and passenger to set their temperature just right. The Navigation Plus Pack (£1,110 more than the Navigation Pack) seemed like an unnecessary addition, though, with Real Time Traffic Information and wireless phone charging the only real benefits over the standard pack. The benefit of the restructure, however, is that buyers can now strike a better balance of spec and engine, depending on their needs. Those after a punchy supermini with less kit are best served by the Cooper S in Classic trim, for example. Those looking for a slower model loaded with toys can choose the Cooper Sport or Exclusive. Frustratingly, you can only buy the MINI One in Classic spec.

Elsewhere, the MINI remains a fantastic car to drive. The suspension is firm, but the trade-off is measurable gains in body control, with sweet steering and plenty of grip. The punchy 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine is among the best three-cylinder units on sale, settling down to a quiet cruise on the motorway. But while it leads the class for driver fun, it falls behind the very best when it comes to practicality. The 278-litre boot is small, and isn’t as well shaped as the load bay in a Ford Fiesta. The rear seats are pretty tight, too, even in 5-door guise.

Key specs Model: MINI Cooper Classic Price: £18,330 Engine: 1.5-litre 3cyl turbo petrol Power/torque: 134bhp/230Nm Transmission: Six-speed manual, front-wheel drive 0-62mph: 8.2 seconds Top speed: 129mph Economy/CO2: 51.4mpg (NEDC correlated)/143g/km (WLTP) On sale: Now

About Skegness Cricket and Supporters Club... The cricket section has three main senior sides - 1st XI & 2nd XI League sides and a Sunday XI league side providing an opportunity for cricketers of all standards to play on a regular basis. Our junior set up consists of 4 teams, under 9’s, under 11’s, under 13’s and under 15’s. We also host the All Stars cricket programme providing an exciting opportunity for children aged 4-8 year olds to participate in cricket and to gain their first experience. Further information on our All Stars Cricket can be found at https:// allstarscricket.co.uk/5716

We are situated in the county of Lincolnshire, right on the east coast of England in Skegness - one of the oldest and most famous tourist resorts in the country. Skegness Cricket and Supporters Club has a long, rich and colourful history, and we have been in existence since at least 1877. As a members club our main purpose is to provide a service to local people of Skegness. The club is run by a committee, which is elected by the members at the Annual General

Meeting. Key memberships fall into four main categories - Social, Cricket, Hockey and Squash - and the club currently boasts membership in excess of three hundred. The Club offers a number of key services to its members: With a superb location and attractive setting we are fortunate to have a fantastic cricket ground, with many sides making significant journeys to play us. The ground is available for rent during summer weeks and we regularly have visitors that do just that, arranging various games and events.

With a pleasant environment and drinks at reasonable prices, the bar offers all members an excellent opportunity to relax in an informal environment. During the winter months, junior football sides take advantage of the facilities hosting matches on the ground. We welcome anybody to join us. Anyone interested in taking part in any activity at the club can make further enquiries at the bar which is open every evening, or contact us through our Facebook page: https://www. facebook.com/skegnesscc/
