Exercise doesn't have to hurt!
N
ot only is dancing good for exercise but also to mingle and make new friends, to learn new dances and improve and refresh older ones too. It also keeps the grey matter working!
At our school we have a wide mix of ages dancing and socialising - it’s not all about the dancing!! We don’t push and realise we all have our limits and capabilities - as long as our pupils are learning and enjoying the experience we are happy. We always ensure everyone leaves with a smile on their face!! With our experience and knowledge our aim is to promote social dancing in a way everyone understands and enjoys. We do not want to stress anyone out or make them panic, but to have a laugh even when they go wrong
(we go wrong too, you know!). Sequence dancing has form and order to it and usually dances over 16 bars of music which repeats, unlike ballroom where you make up your own routine, which is more freestyle. Because sequence is 16 bars it is easy to teach by breaking it down into stages and then joining them up as you learn to make up the whole dance. You would be amazed what you can achieve and the confidence it will give you. We all have the ability to dance. You just need the right approach, attitude and determination to succeed and we will help you in all of those. In sequence you can dance to WaltzTango-Cha Cha-Quickstep-SwingMambo-Jive-Foxtrot etc. For virtually every style of dance there has been a sequence dance invented. We sometimes include basic ballroom should anyone wish to try.
We started in 1998 as complete beginners, not knowing a thing and were quickly asked to join the Lincoln social formation team that eventually won the British Open in Blackpool three times. We then began competing seriously, becoming British Classical and Modern Sequence Champions in 2006. Following this we moved up to senior status and were ranked 4th in the UK! Eventually we turned pro in 2013, which brought us to where we are today - teaching two classes on Monday nights at St Peters Church Hall, Ingoldmells and on Thursday nights at Cranwell Village Hall, both starting at 7.30pm. Private lessons are also available at both venues. l Max

Seven great 0 2 0 South American idays 2 l o H destinations Galapagos Islands There is no bad time to visit the wildlife wonderland of Ecuador and, fixed to the very middle of the planet’s torso, are the Galapagos Islands. June is the first flush of peak season but the reward is a wealth of creature sightings. Isla Isabella - at 1,792 square miles, being by far the biggest of the 18 islands - is home to penguins, iguanas, Sally Lightfoot crabs and the incomparable Galapagos tortoise. Espanola, by contrast, is just 23 square miles but plays host to lava lizards, mockingbirds and - in June - hugewinged albatrosses, which use the outcrop’s cliffs as take-off ramps. Details from Cox & Kings (020 3468 87622; coxandkings.co.uk)
Peru There is no obvious perfect time for a fortnight in Peru - thanks to the disparity in height and weather between surf-flecked Lima and the Andean summits - but August is a reasonable compromise. The capital is in its coolest groove but still toasting at 20C, and both the mountains and the jungle are in their “dry” windows.
The Parque Nacional Los Glaciares in Patagonia

Steppes Travel (01258 787 579; steppestravel.co.uk) offers a 13-day “Highlights of Peru” package which serves up a little of everything increasingly chic Lima; the southerly city of Arequipa, a colonial jewel; the epic chasm of Colca Canyon; Lake Titicaca and the shoreside city of Puno; Cusco and the Sacred Valley, with the inevitable onward odyssey to Machu Picchu.
Argentina Supremely southern, Argentina really hits its stride around the festive season, Buenos Aires all aglow at the top end of the 20C in December (as compared to 15C in wintry June and July). It is a fabulous city, endlessly engaging in the galleries of the revitalised Puerto Madero district, the steak eateries of San Telmo and the chi-chi bars of Palermo. But the end of the year is also the time to dash downward into the cold comforts of Patagonia, where the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares is the largest national park in the country. Details from Sunvil (020 8758 4774; sunvil.co.uk)
Bolivia Bolivia is so central to the continent that it is abutted by five other states - Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru. It is defined by its Altiplano (high plateau), where Lake Titicaca, said to be the birthplace of the Incas, ebbs west into Peru, and La Paz preens at 11,975ft (3650m) - the highest national capital city in the world. September is the time to visit - the end of the winter but also dry season, and is good for trekking. Travellers can also venture to the Salar de Uyuni, in the south-west - the globe’s biggest expanse of salt flats, spreading for 4,086 square miles. Details from High Lives (020 8835 7034; highlives.co.uk)
Uruguay The second smallest country on the continent (after Surinam) is a surprise, best discovered during its peak summer months of December and January. Uruguay is defined by its 410 miles of “coastline”, where the broad estuary of the River Plate meets the Atlantic. Here you find the 17th-century Portuguese gem Colonia del Sacramento - and the capital
Montevideo, an underrated city where Playa Ramirez is the place for urban sunbathing. Further east, Punta del Este is a resort city with beaches of its own, while, with its boutique hotels and clapboard homes, the chic village Jose Ignacio could be in New England. Details from Last Frontiers (01296 653000; lastfrontiers.com)
Guyana Britain is rarely thought to have colonial ties to South America but Guyana is one of the exceptions to the Hispanic rule - a nugget of a nation on the north-east shoulder of the continent which came under London’s control between 1814 and 1966. This year marks the 50th anniversary of independence, a good reason to visit a state which - the capital Georgetown and its 1899 Anglican cathedral aside - bears almost no traces of the old order. Instead, it is a slice of rainforest, savannah and wetland where great rivers - the Essequibo, the Demerara, the Courantyne - dissect the treescape. Kaieteur Falls, at the heart of the country, is the Guyanese star, one of the planet’s joys. The River Potaro crashes 741ft (226m) there in one sheet of liquid. Iwokrama, meanwhile, is a jungle research station from where you can go out in search of jaguars. Temperatures cling to the 30C mark throughout the year but October and November are hallmarks of the dry season. Details from Wilderness Explorers (020 8417 1585; wilderness-explorers. com)
Paraguay
Salazar y Espinoza in 1537.
There is a case for Paraguay being the true mystery of South American travel. Certainly, it has an air of the hidden, as one of only two landlocked countries on the continent, trapped between Brazil, Argentina and the other ocean refusenik, Bolivia. It is intensely hot in summer (December-February) but the temperature drops to a welcoming 25C in July and August. Those who seek its underappreciated spaces find that Asuncion, the capital, has a small-town vibe, a population of half a million and a colonial aesthetic that recalls its foundation by Spanish explorer Juan de
Within, the Museo del Barro (museodelbarro.org) has work by local artist Mabel Arcondo and a raft of indigenous paintings - Paraguay being a country where the Guarani culture is still to the fore. Beyond, the Parque Nacional Nacunday, in the south-east, frames the 110-wide Salto Nancunday waterfall - while the Chaco region, in the north-west, is a giant slab of salt flats and forest. Early spring garden jobs There’s always something to be doing in the garden, whether it’s pruning, tidying or sowing, so we’ve put together our top gardening tasks for early spring. See what’s looking good in the flower garden or vegetable garden this month.
In the flower garden l Dig
in compost or manure to prepare for the growing season. l Dig in a 5cm (or more) layer of compost or well rotted manure into your beds to prepare for the growing season. l Apply a layer of mulch around your perennials, trees and shrubs before the hot weather arrives. Use organic matter such as well rotted manure. l Lift and divide perennial plants now to improve their vigour and create new plants for your garden. l Divide Hostas before they come into leaf. l Divide Primroses after they have finished flowering. l Start to move evergreen shrubs and trees now provided the soil isn’t frozen or waterlogged. l Plant summer-flowering bulbs such as Lilies, Gladiolus and Ranunculus into beds, borders and containers. lApply a balanced slow release fertiliser to trees, shrubs and hedges l Feed trees, shrubs and hedges with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser by lightly forking it into the soil surface.
intact allowing it to die back naturally. Direct sow hardy annuals outside or in pots or modules. Check that your container plants are not drying out - warm weather will quickly affect soil moisture levels.
l
Gardens Roses are greedy plants and will greatly benefit from feeding as they come into growth. l Continue to plant herbaceous perennials. Forced flower bulbs such as hyacinths and daffodils, which have now finished flowering, can be planted outdoors in garden borders.. If any of your garden plants will need supporting this year, put the supports in now so the plants grow up through them. Adding supports afterwards is difficult and and may damage the plant. l Tie in climbing and rambling roses to their supports. Honeysuckle and Clematis will now be putting on growth, tie in new stems to train the plant along its support. If you haven’t done so already, finish cutting back any dead foliage left on your perennials and ornamental grasses to make way for new growth. l Prune Forsythia as soon as they have finished flowering, cutting back to strong young shoots. l Trim winter-flowering heathers as the flowers disappear, to prevent the plants becoming leggy. l Deadhead daffodils and tulips as the flowers finish but leave the foliage
In the vegetable garden l Dig
in a 5cm (or more) layer of compost, well rotted manure or green waste into your beds to prepare for the growing season. l Growing potatoes in grow bags - top up compost as the plants grow l Plant your chitted potatoes outside in the ground or in potato grow bags. To find out more about growing potatoes in bags or in the ground, take a look at our potato growing guides l Harvest asparagus spears when they are no more than 18cm tall. l For quick and easy pea supports push some twiggy sticks around your pea plants now. l Thin your carrot seedlings to achieve good-size carrots - do this in the evening when fewer carrot flies are around. l Many crops can be direct sown into the ground now including parsnips, cabbages and radishes (see our What to sow and grow in April page for more vegetables to sow now). l Prepare vegetable seed beds by removing all weeds and forking in plenty of compost. Cover prepared soil with sheets of black plastic to keep it drier and warmer in preparation for planting. l Build raised beds to take the bending out of growing vegetables.

Health
The importance of bone health B the risk of osteoporosis. In men, low testosterone can cause loss of bone mass. l Eating disorders and other conditions. People who have anorexia or bulimia are at risk of bone loss. In addition, stomach surgery (gastrectomy), weight-loss surgery and conditions such as Crohn's disease, celiac disease and Cushing's disease can affect your body's ability to absorb calcium. l Certain medications. Long-term use of corticosteroid medications, such as prednisone, cortisone, prednisolone and dexamethasone, is damaging to bone. Other drugs that might increase the risk of osteoporosis include aromatase inhibitors to treat breast cancer, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, methotrexate, some anti-seizure medications, such as phenytoin (Dilantin) and phenobarbital, and proton pump inhibitors.
ones play many roles in the body - providing structure, protecting organs, anchoring muscles and storing calcium. While it's important to build strong and healthy bones during childhood and adolescence, you can take steps during adulthood to protect bone health, too.
Why is bone health important? Your bones are continuously changing - new bone is made and old bone is broken down. When you're young, your body makes new bone faster than it breaks down old bone, and your bone mass increases. Most people reach their peak bone mass around age 30. After that, bone remodeling continues, but you lose slightly more bone mass than you gain. How likely you are to develop osteoporosis - a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle - depends on how much bone mass you attain by the time you reach age 30 and how rapidly you lose it after that. The higher your peak bone mass, the more bone you have "in the bank" and the less likely you are to develop osteoporosis as you age.
What affects bone health? A number of factors can affect bone health. For example: l The amount of calcium in your diet. A diet low in calcium contributes to diminished bone density, early bone loss and an increased risk of fractures. l Physical activity. People who are physically inactive have a higher risk of osteoporosis than do their more-active counterparts. l Tobacco and alcohol use. Research suggests that tobacco use contributes to weak bones. Similarly, regularly
What can I do to keep my bones healthy?
having more than one alcoholic drink a day for women or two alcoholic drinks a day for men may increase the risk of osteoporosis. l Gender. You're at greater risk of osteoporosis if you're a woman, because women have less bone tissue than do men. l Size. You're at risk if you are extremely thin (with a body mass index of 19 or less) or have a small body frame because you might have less bone mass to draw from as you age. l Age. Your bones become thinner and weaker as you age. l Hormone levels. Too much thyroid hormone can cause bone loss. In women, bone loss increases dramatically at menopause due to dropping estrogen levels. Prolonged absence of menstruation (amenorrhea) before menopause also increases
You can take a few simple steps to prevent or slow bone loss. For example: l Include plenty of calcium in your diet. For adults ages 19 to 50 and men ages 51 to 70, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium a day. This increases to 1,200 mg a day for women after age 50 and for men after age 70. l Pay attention to vitamin D. Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. For adults ages 19 to 70, the RDA of vitamin D is 600 international units (IUs) a day. l Include physical activity in your daily routine. Weight-bearing exercises, such as walking and jogging can help you build strong bones and slow bone loss. l Avoid substance abuse. Don't smoke. If you are a woman, avoid drinking more than one alcoholic drink each day. If you are a man, avoid drinking more than two alcoholic drinks a day.

Obedience training for dogs Part Two
In the second part of our feature, we emphasise the importance of gentle persuasion and show how to teach your dog new skills.
Control consequences effectively As you teach your dog what you do and don’t want her to do, keep the following guidelines in mind:
Consequences must be immediate Dogs live in the present. Unlike us, they can’t make connections between events and experiences that are separated in time. For your dog to connect something she does with the consequences of that behaviour, the consequences must be immediate. If you want to discourage your dog from doing something, you have to catch her with her paw in the proverbial cookie jar. For example, if your dog gets too rough during play and mouths your arm, try saying “OUCH!” right at the moment you feel her teeth touch your skin. Then abruptly end playtime. The message is immediate and clear: Biting people results in no more fun. Rewards for good behaviour must come right after that behavior has happened, too. Be prepared to reward your dog with treats, praise, petting and play the instant she does something you like.
Consequences must be consistent When training your dog, you - and everyone else who interacts with her - should respond the same way to things she does every time she does them. For example, if you sometimes pet your dog when she jumps up to greet you but sometimes yell at her instead, she’s bound
to get confused. How can she know when it’s okay to jump up and when it’s not?
Be a good leader Some people believe that the only way to transform a disobedient dog into a well-behaved one is to dominate her and show her who’s boss. However, the “alpha dog” concept in dog training is based more on myth than on animal science. More importantly, it leads misguided pet parents to use training techniques that aren’t safe, like the “alpha roll.” Dogs who are forcibly rolled onto their backs and held down can become frightened and confused, and they’re sometimes driven to bite in self defence. Keep in mind that ditching the “alpha dog” concept doesn’t mean you have to let your dog do anything she likes. It’s fine to be the boss and make the rules-but you can do that without unnecessary conflict. Be a benevolent boss, not a bully. Good leadership isn’t about dominance and power struggles. It’s about controlling your dog’s behaviour by controlling
her access to things she wants. If your dog wants to go out, ask her to sit before you open the door. When she wants dinner, ask her to lie down to earn it. Does she want to go for a walk? If she’s jumping up on you with excitement, wait calmly until she sits. Then clip on the leash and take your walk. Your dog will happily work for everything she loves in life. She can learn to do what you want in order to earn what she wants.
Training new skills It’s easy to reward good behaviour if you focus on teaching your dog to do specific things you like. Dogs can learn an impressive array of obedience skills and entertaining tricks. Deciding what you’d like your dog to learn will depend on your interests and lifestyle. If you want your dog to behave politely, you can focus on skills like sit, down, wait at doors, leave it, come when called and stay. If you want to enhance your enjoyment of outings with your dog, you can train her to walk politely on leash, without pulling. If you have a highenergy dog and would like outlets for her exuberance, you can teach her how to play fetch, play tug-of-war or participate in dog sports, such as agility, rally obedience, freestyle and flyball. If you’d like to impress your friends or just spend some quality time with your dog, you can take her to clicker training or trick-training classes. The possibilities are endless!

The Benefits of Instructing a Lawyer When Buying or Selling a Property By Paulina Wegorkiewicz
Instructing a Lawyer to assist with your property transaction is naturally a daunting process. However, doing so can carry far more benefits and reduce the overall costly risks if you were to try and carry out the transaction alone and get it wrong!
The laws associated with the process of buying or selling a residential property can often becomplex and confusing. Employing the services of our Residential Conveyancing Team can carry great benefits and remove the stress associated with such transactions. Conveyancing is the process of legal work undertaken between the acceptance of an offer and the completion of the sale. Depending upon the type of property sale, the process can differ and therefore extra measures must be taken into consideration when purchasing different types ofproperties. Upon instructing a Lawyer to handle the legal aspects of your property transaction, several tasks will be carried out. The following is an example of the type of work undertaken by your Lawyer and will include: l Obtain title deeds l Support you in filling out the necessary questionnaires l Handle contracts - Draw up, Assess and Distribute l Give legal advice and recommendations l Liaise with the other side to negotiate a moving date l Carry out local searches l Organise the final accounts and prepare for completion l Approve the deed of transfer l Stamp duty charges and payments l Deal with the Land Registry Instructing a Lawyer to act in your sale or purchase will ensure that the process is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible, resulting in fewer delays. Individuals who might be considering handling the transaction alone will be responsible for carrying out these tasks. Any mistakes made throughout the process could lead to costly litigation, resulting in far more expensive legal and court fees when trying to rectify mistakes. Purchasing or selling a home often involves large financial commitments. Therefore, it benefits you to put your trust into the hands of a specialist Lawyer who is an expert in their field. Hodgkinsons’ qualified Residential Conveyancing Team will deal with any difficulties which might arise throughout the property transaction, explain the situation clearly and keep you informed at all times.

The new Honda e: Supermini with style I f the thought of switching from petrol power to electric has crossed your mind, then 2020 could be the year to do it. Around two dozen new cars powered purely by electricity will be arriving in the next 12 months, and undoubtedly the cutest will be the Honda e.
Charming and characterful, the Honda e has the potential to really stand out in a sea of small EVs like the MINI Electric, Peugeot e-208 and the Vauxhall Corsa-e, largely on account of the way it looks. But with prices kicking off at a sizable £26,000 and it having a rather small range of up to 137 miles, is the Honda e an expensive piece of jewellery or a compelling small electric car?
Style Among the glut of all-electric newcomers, the e has a key advantage, however - and that’s the styling. In a world of bloated SUVs, the e looks refreshingly small but, strangely, it’s pretty much identical in size to the new Honda Jazz. It’s a clever piece of design, not just because it’s a large car that looks small, but also because it’s cool, classless and desirable in an Apple iPhone kind of way. Critics might say the BMW i3 did that nearly a decade ago, however. The i3 similarity doesn’t end there, either. While the Peugeot 208, Vauxhall Corsa and the MINI Hatch can all be had in petrol, diesel and electric flavours, the Honda e is completely standalone. Honda has even developed a brand new platform for it which won’t be used on any other model. That’s an expensive move that flies in the face of what other car makers are doing – again, just like BMW’s policy with the i3 back in 2013.
Interior Pull on the deployable, Aston Martinlike door handle and step inside and, just like the exterior, the interior is
58
refreshingly different. Wood trim stretches across the top of the entire dashboard and above it sit three TFT screens, giving a look not too dissimilar to a John Lewis TV cabinet. The layout comprises an 8.8-inch display in front of the driver, along with two 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment.
which can be shared with others to open and start the car.
The system is powered by a new interface and operates much like a smartphone, with large tile icons for various features (from power flow to activating the car’s onboard wi-fi hotspot), pinch-and-zoom functionality and the ability to switch information from one screen to another.
The TV-like arrangement of screens all look impressive on first impressions, but the more time you spend playing with the new infotainment system, the more some annoying foibles become apparent.
A new voice-activated ‘personal assistant’ is present, the displays can be personalised with static wallpapers or even a moving aquarium - only be activated when the car is stationary - and an HDMI connection found beneath the dashboard also allows passengers to connect up a games console. There’s also a smartphone app that allows owners to monitor the battery status and create a digital ‘key’
That’s a shame because the interior is pretty advanced compared with the MINI Electric and Peugeot’s e-208. The three screens are book-ended by live camera feeds that take the place of the door mirrors, and they actually work surprisingly well. Unlike in an Audi e-tron, they are adjusted in the traditional way, with controls on the door, and are more in

the driver’s line of sight. A rear-view mirror which can switch to a live video feed (a Range Rover Evoque has an identical feature) joins the side-mirror cameras as standard equipment, too.
which sits under the boot floor. Meanwhile, the 35.5kWh battery pack sits in the middle under the passenger area.
Space
Does the Honda e drive as good as it looks? Yes, is the short answer. It feels most at home in built-up areas, as you’d expect, with those dinky dimensions making it feel very manoeuverable. The amazingly tight turning circle makes parking a doddle and with a very healthy 315Nm from the electric motor, racing from traffic lights and zipping through dense traffic becomes a fun new game.
Space in the back is a little tight but there’s more space than in an e-208 and the Honda e comes with five doors compared with the three-door-only MINI. A desperately small boot (171 litres with the seats up) is a major downside, but that’s the fault of the electric motor,
The drive
Head into the countryside and the e still manages to acquit itself very well. It gets independent suspension all round, so the ride is plush and on
undulating roads, it isn’t lumpy or unsettled. That wheel-at-each-corner stance makes the car feel quite stable at high speeds. The steering has a pleasing amount of feel through it but while the Honda e is rear-wheel drive, there isn’t quite enough power for some enthusiastic driving. However, you can feel the car being pushing out of corners rather being pulled like in the e-208, which adds to the fun factor. The only downside to that is with the front wheels having very little to do, the front of the car can push wide in faster corners and consequently the e can feel a little nervous.
Cost Prices kick off at £26,160 (£299 a month on a PCP deal) after the Government grant for the entry-level model, which gets 16-inch alloys and a 134bhp electric motor with a range of 137 miles. For £28,660 (£349 a month), the Advance adds not only 17-inch alloys but also heated seats and steering wheel, plus Honda’s semiautonomous parking aid.

Aries
Horoscopes
(March 21 - April 19)
You will be celebrating your finances, since all your investments are doing well and you have nothing to worry about. Your monetary income remains steady and predictable and you will be able to see how your past financial planning has paid dividends.
Taurus
(April 20 - May 20)
Gemini
(May 21 - June 20)
Cancer
(June 21 - July 22)
Wow! What a lucky period for Taureans! Now is the time to preen yourself and take centre stage. Get your hair done, buy yourself some new clothes and dedicate this time to make yourself look fabulous. Time will fly by like a whirlwind and you won’t quite know what’s hit you! This is another very positive time for Geminis and you will find encouragement all around. People will want you to start a new business to show off your expertise. There will be many persuasive people who feel they can gain from following your lead. You will seem more energetic and ready to explore new horizons. Travel is forecast, on both the work front as well as the home front. You might become interested in a job relocation opportunity which suddenly arises. It is an excellent month to look at your diet and cut down on the junk food.
Leo
(July 23 - August 22)
You will feel more like yourself in this period because your stress levels will have reduced. You could be inclined to embark on a strict diet where you are promised results very quickly. Don’t be too easily fooled. With a sensible regime and regular exercise, you can easily achieve your desired results.
Virgo
(August 23 - September 22)
There could be a few niggles ahead as you try to keep a healthy work/life balance. You risk struggling to keep yourself from flying off the handle with work colleagues who lack your conviction. In your frustration, you may be inclined to snap at those closest to you.
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
You could encounter some rather unexpected changes to your career path. Out of the blue you might be offered a new position. It will not be one you have applied for so it might come as a bit of a shock. The money is good - so go for it!
Scorpio
(October 23 - November 21)
There are enjoyable times in store, particularly in affairs of the heart and in familial relationship matters. It is an excellent time to try for a baby as your compatibility with partners and spouses will be especially harmonious. There will be feelings of exuberance, pleasure and joy for Scorpions.
Sagittarius
(November 22 - December 21)
This is a good time to take stock of your finances. You may have overspent in the last couple of weeks, which means you have little rainy day money. If you take the time to plan your spending more carefully, you could be surprised by how much you can save by simply sticking to a plan.
Capricorn
(December 22 - January 19)
This is a time for relaxing and taking life easy. If you haven’t thought of a holiday, a last-minute getaway would do you the world of good. You may suddenly feel tired or on the point of exhaustion, so there has never been a better time to take time out
Aquarius
(January 20 - February 18)
There could be a serious flirtation going on at work at the moment. Certainly, your heart will be fluttering and there will be butterflies in your stomach. You may toy with the idea of starting an affair. The magnetism of one person will be very strong and equally hard to resist.
Pisces
(February 19 - March 20)
You will be mentally alert and switched on to life in general over this period. You will find life invigorating and challenges in work will excite you and make you want to stand out from the crowd. Your voice will be heard by senior people and your talents and creativity will be noted.
