Transform Fitness by Amanda Heath

STARTED my 13 stone weight loss journey because I wanted to live. I had meningitis, suffered 6 years of seizures, numerous operations, had a stroke and slipped 3 discs in my back. I spent 15 years laid in and out of hospital beds, years of therapy, had to learn how to walk, talk, swallow and function again. I was addicted to opiate medication and had organ failure. I also have trauma related complex PTSD & FND which I have had since I was 14. Lliving with this condition is sometimes challenging but fuels a desire to help and support others.

My journey began! I got myself a desire to live and didn’t stop until I knew I could! I kicked the opiates - that sounds easy and it wasn’t started fitness at my local leisure centre and soaked myself in knowledge to become a healthier person. 2 years on in my weight-loss journey and I had lost 13 stone. I had created a desire for fitness and nutrition within me, moved forward into my passion and became a self-employed

personal trainer and class instructor. I absolutely love my job and feel motivated every single time I inspire someone on their journey to a healthier lifestyle. 6 years along in that journey from where I first started and I am now incredibly proud to be opening the doors to a new private 1-1 training studio and class suite. I would like to thank Mr Lee Johnston, owner of ELITE FIT

for supporting my dream and becoming my business partner in TRANSFORM FITNESS. This is an incredibly exciting time and I am privileged to share this journey with such an encouraging and inspirational man. We will be providing 1-1 private personal training, fitness classes, small group training, food education conferences, stay healthy weigh and measure sessions based on my own journey, seminars, parent and baby classes. We will also provide space for hiring our studio for personal fitness space, conferences and parties. We have a fully stocked supplement store and trainers on hand for all your nutritional needs. We also offer gym based personal training at ELITE FIT with options for memberships. We also have the pleasure of LWP Wrestling Academy within our suite who provide excellent adult and children training sessions, shows and personal training. I hope this helps you to know that all things are possible even when it looks like they are not.

Gardening Services Guide T’S been a harsh year, but there’s still a lot to smile about this season. So whether you have a massive snowcapped yard or a tiny balcony, let’s explore some Christmas garden ideas to brighten up your space and spread some holiday cheer. We’ll go from highend to down DIY.

1 Natural baubles Uneasy about commercialised Christmas decorations? All that sparkle and plastic can’t be good for the environment. Luckily, you can DIY décor using all-natural items. Get an old wooden box or crate from the junkyard. Fill it with pinecones, rose hips, and frozen leaves lying on a bed of straw. It’ll soak up any dust or excess moisture. Place it under outdoor accent lights for effect.

2 Go live, go green Christmas isn’t Christmas without a tree. For many families ‘tree hunting’ is a crucial part of holiday festivities. But you don’t have to actually cut the tree. If you have trees in your yard, you can string them up with lights, mistletoe, and holly wreaths, even if they’re not traditional ‘Christmas trees’ (traditional examples include fir, spruce, pine, cypress, or similar tree species)

Who can resist a pretty reindeer? But PETA, Santa, (and your local weather) may stop you from adopting one. So if you have any whittling skills, you can carve a timber reindeer from local driftwood. Or you can get a nearby craftsperson or carpenter to make one. It’ll cost you though!

4 Coloured trees Spruce is a popular choice for Christmas trees so you can plan to plant them earlier in the year. That way, they’ll bloom in time for the holidays. Position them tastefully so they’ll frame your yard without crowding it. And opt for ‘coloured’ spruces in blue, silver, or white rather than green. Their unexpected hues will brighten your yard and loo great with lights and baubles.

Outdoor lights are generally waterproof. And with LEDs, your garden can be versatile this Christmas. Invest in self-lighting outdoor garlands. They’re often shaped like leaves and flowers that glow in the twilight so it’s a quick-fix to your decoration challenges. Just be sure to get lots of outdoorgrade extension cables to power your garlands. Or get rechargeable versions.

7 Vintage lighting Christmas is all about candles and carols. But we have to be extra careful because Christmas scenes are filled with fire hazards. Consider buying some vintage-styles lanterns. The type with glass chimneys encased in wire cages. But instead of feeding the wick with kerosene, use the lantern as a wind-proof candle holder.

Speaking of unconventional décor, who says your Christmas tree has to be a tree? If your family loves flowers, consider X-mas-tree-shaped flower arrangements. You can mount them in doorways, windows, or on the deck and patio. You can even set up a make-shift Christmas aisle lading to your door and line the sides of the pathway with flower tree-shaped flower wreaths.

Health Five ways to stay healthy this Christmas TRUGGLING to stay fit over the festive season? We know we're not the only ones who can't keep away from the mince pies. here are our five tips for avoiding piling on the pounds this Christmas.

1. Make smart food choices You’ll have many obligations over the holiday period, but overeating at every single party or gathering isn’t one of them. If you’re headed out to dinner or a holiday party, spoil your appetite first. That way you’re less likely to overdo the holiday food. Have a snack an hour or so beforehand so you don’t show up starving. Give yourself time to see what foods are available, and make choices based on what you actually want.

2. Stay hydrated It’s recommended that you drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Without adequate hydration, we often feel hungry, sluggish, and tired. This can cause us to miss workouts, snack on unhealthy foods and reach for excess caffeine. Your goal, every time you reach for a snack, should be to drink a glass of water first.

It’s also good practice to set limits on alcoholic beverages. Limit your intake of empty calories like alcohol, which is pure sugar and has no nutritional value. You don’t have to take a hard pass on the spiked eggnog - just drink smart.

3. Get a good night’s sleep Sufficient sleep is essential for good mood, good health, and good outlook - exactly what you want during the holiday period. Even if you have holiday travel plans, be sure to make time for sleep. Keep in mind that consistency is key, so try your best to maintain your regular bed and wake times, even when traveling. Maintaining a relaxing bedtime routine can help with that. It can help transition your mind and body from wake to sleep. The holidays will leave many of us running ragged, which isn’t good on anyone’s body. No matter how busy you are, don’t stay up later or wake up earlier in order to get more done. You’re better off getting all of your sleep at night. A well-rested person gets more done and does it better than a sleep-deprived person.

4. Think outside the gym The nearest treadmill may be miles from where you are. So, if you’re on a

regularly scheduled fitness schedule, you’ll need to get creative. That could translate to squeezing in walks after big meals or calisthenics in the kitchen. The holiday season is full of travel as we go from city to city to see friends and family. As such, gym access may be difficult. Incorporate bodyweight movements such as squats, lunges, shoulder taps, and burpees, and take your fitness on the road with you. Do your best to get your exercise time in, no matter how small. A modified or condensed workout is better than a missed workout. Smaller workouts will help you keep off unwanted pounds over the Christmas and New Year period.

5. Don’t wait until January A few bumps in the road don’t have to turn into a train wreck when it comes to eating well and staying active during the holidays. Get back on the straight and narrow sooner, not later. If you fall off your exercise schedule or healthy eating plan, remember: Don’t wait for Monday or the new year. Get back on track right away. A small blip in your routine won’t wreck your goals or your progress, but a weekend full of indulgences, lack of sleep and no exercise will throw you off a lot longer.

Pets

How to make sure your pet is happy and healthy this Christmas

Festive food hazards

interact safely with your pet and never leave pets and children unsupervised. Even the friendliest of pets have a limit.

We all want to treat our pets, especially over the festive period, but overindulgence in unfamiliar foods or fatty gravies can cause gastroenteritis. To us, it is hard to tell what’s inside a wrapped gift, but a box of chocolates is no secret to your dog as they can sniff out food regardless of the wrapping paper. Remember chocolate is toxic to your dog so always put edible presents safely out the way to avoid emergency vet visits over Christmas. Chocolate, macadamia nuts, onions, grapes, sultanas, raisins and alcohol are all toxic to pets (so keep that Christmas pudding out of reach!). Small bones can splinter off and get stuck in your pet’s intestines, so never allow your pet to chew on them.

Chew-able hazards Rabbits are notorious chewers, biting through anything from cables to carpet. If you’re gift wrapping and have string, ribbon or bows on the floor be aware these can be tempting to your rabbits and if they do eat them it can cause internal blockages, choking or become wrapped around their neck. Be sure to also keep fairy lights away from pets. Chewing through cables can end up in a nasty electric shock!

Fireworks If you’ll be celebrating the New Year with some fireworks, it’s important to consider how they might affect our pets. Sound sensitivities, including fireworks, are very common in dogs and reactions range from mild to extreme. Cats they are not thought to suffer the same sound sensitivities. The problem for cats is the change to their environment or routine when they are outside less than normal.

Christmas trees & festive plants Did you know that some festive plants are poisonous to animals? Popular Christmas plants like holly and mistletoe, along with their berries, are toxic to pets if ingested - so keep these out of reach! And although most species of Christmas tree are low in toxicity, they could cause a stomach upset if chewed. It’s also important to clean up fallen Christmas tree needles so that they don’t get stuck in paws. Cats in particular are curious creatures, so it’s no wonder that some are fascinated when we start to decorate our homes with Christmas trees and sparkly decorations.

Helping pets cope in a group of people While some pets love a party, many find the noise, excitement and number of faces overwhelming.

Winter watch-outs Ideally pets should have their own quiet space to retreat to if you’re hosting people at home, where no-one will disturb them. You can move their food, water and bed there a few days in advance to get your pet used to having them in a new spot. If your party has children attending, make sure that they know how to

Despite their fur, cats, dogs and small furries can feel the cold just the same as humans, and freezing temperatures can create problems Antifreeze, grit and snow are just some of the things we need to be careful of during the chilly months. It’s also important to ensure that your pets water source is not frozen if it’s left outside.

Top travel destinations for 2022 S border restrictions ease and vaccines continue to roll out, travel is becoming a very real possibility for 2022. We’re not out of the woods yet though, and travellers are still tentatively planning trips around local restrictions. That means more people are dreaming of the great outdoors with plenty of space for distancing, plus safer countries with a strong response to the pandemic. Travellers are also planning responsible travel experiences, and big bucket list adventures to make up for lost time. Here’s our pick of the biggest trending 2022 travel destinations.

Scandinavia Imagine luxury hotels set on the edge of plunging fjords and world-class train journeys winding through lush mountains. Think lavish palaces dripping in royal history, and stylish cities packed with all the best boutiques, bars and restaurants. From Sweden, Norway and Denmark, to Finland and Iceland, it’s time to go Nordic on your 2022 travels.

never let you down, from the gorgeous islands to the romantic cities and ancient history. Whether you want to hop through wineries in Tuscany, or lounge on the

beaches of Santorini, you know you’re in for a truly wonderful time in this sunny part of the world. The best part? You can easily combine both Greece and Italy in one perfect trip.

Greece

Australia & New Zealand With breathtaking and diverse landscapes, unique wildlife, delicious cuisine and incredible cultures, both countries are bucket list goals. Australia and New Zealand also both had some of the strongest responses to the pandemic. They kept their borders firmly shut over a year, and much of the region is now living relatively COVID-free. As soon as those borders are open again, we’re sure there’ll be plenty of travellers making their way down under…. So get in first in 2022!

Costa Rica There’s never been a better time to take care of your wellbeing. If you’re ready to get away and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul in an ecofriendly paradise, Costa Rica has to be on your list. You’ll get back to nature with jungle adventures, wildlife experiences, volcano treks and plenty of beach time. Plus you’ll get to meet inspiring locals from organic farmers to wildlife conservationists.

Costa Rica

Greece and Italy After living through such uncertain times, we all could go for some predictable pleasure. Greece and Italy

about the traditions of the country’s indigenous people. Canada is definitely on the cards for 2022.

Tired of looking at the four walls of your house? You’re probably ready to look beyond the classic destinations and embark on an offbeat adventure. Why not choose Georgia and Armenia, two incredible, yet relatively untapped, countries in Europe? They might be a well-kept secret now, but they’re set to be a trending 2022 travel destination… So it’s time to start planning now. From the gorgeous mountain landscapes and the ancient monasteries and wineries to the friendly locals and indulgent cuisine, Georgia and Armenia are the ultimate destinations for a brand new adventure in 2022.

Canada

Spending time in nature is good for your mental and physical wellbeing… and there are few better places to get outdoors than Canada. As soon as you set eyes on the snowy peaks of the Canadian Rockies and the emerald lakes of Banff and Jasper National Parks, you’ll fall in love all over again with our beautiful planet. Take a ride across the Athabasca Glacier, journey through spectacular scenery on the Rocky Mountaineer train, or learn

Kenya and Tanzania After reflecting on the impact that tourism has on people and the planet, the future of travel is all about responsible and sustainable tourism. Many communities have suffered greatly in the wake of the pandemic. We can’t wait to get back to our favourite spots to support our local hosts again, including in Kenya and Tanzania. When you go on safari with Trafalgar, you’ll support local businesses and families, and protect the incredible wildlife. Spot elephants and lions in the Serengeti and meet the colourful Masai tribesman. Walk the ancient floor of the Ngorongoro Crater and visit sanctuaries for rhinos and chimpanzees. Responsible travel will be one of the biggest 2022 travel trends, and Kenya and Tanzania are at the top of the list.

Great Britain and Ireland If you want the best of nature and history, Great Britain and Ireland should be at the top of your 2022 travel Zealand destinations list. This is a place where you can marvel at the world’s most beautiful landscapes while diving into centuries of history. Wander through regal castles then roam through the Scottish Highlands or the golden beaches of Devon and Cornwall. Unravel the mysteries of Stonehenge and the Giant’s Causeway, then walk in the footsteps of authors and poets in the Lakes District. With friendly locals welcoming you at every stop, Great Britain and Ireland will be one of the most soul-stirring travel destinations in 2022.

4 HE world may be changing all the time but that doesn’t stop manufacturers planning ahead. From electric crossovers to hatchbacks, these are the new models set to debut in 2022.

1 Honda Civic Price: £20,000 On sale: 2022 A new Honda Civic is on the way, and it will be built in Japan, not Swindon, after the closure of the firm’s UK plant. It’ll be offered only as a hybrid, which means it will be a direct rival for the Toyota Corolla hatch, although exact specifications haven’t yet been revealed. It’s possible it will use a powertrain configuration similar to that of the Jazz supermini or CR-V SUV, with either a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. The new Civic’s look is sleeker than the current car’s, and the rear end looks saloon-like, with a hatchback boot.

56

2 BMW M2 Price: £60,000 (est) On sale: 2022 The new BMW 2 Series Coupé is extremely likely to spawn a highperformance M2 variant next year. The new M2 will offer rear-wheel-drive thrills with a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine producing around 400bhp. It will take on the latest Audi RS 3 and the Mercedes-AMG 45 S hyperhatches, but its unique selling point for keen drivers will be the availability of rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox.

3 Citroen C5X Price: ££27,000 (est) On sale: 2022 The X in the new, upmarket Citroen C5 X is significant, because it hints at the firm’s ambition for the car, which is to blend attributes from several sectors, including hatchbacks and SUVs. Sure enough, the styling seems to reflect that, with elements of each

in the design. It’s based on the same tech as the C5 Aircross SUV but it’s a more grown-up offering, with petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains and an all-new 12-inch HD infotainment touchscreen inside. The C5 X is also designed to offer a standard of luxury you might not expect given the relatively affordable price.

4 Fiat Panda Price: £11,000 (est.) On sale: 2022 A new Fiat Panda is expected to arrive soon, boosting the Fiat range alongside the stylish 500. The new car was previewed by the Centoventi concept of 2019, and Fiat says it will stay true to its roots as a low-cost, entry-level car that focuses on offering great value for money. Now that Fiat is part of the Stellantis Group, the car is likely to be based on the group’s CMP platform, so it will share parts with some small Peugeots and Citroens.

5 5 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door E Performance Price: £170,000 On sale: 2022 The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door 63 S E-Performance is AMG’s first plug-in hybrid model and a direct rival for the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. It uses a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine which, when combined with the electric motor, delivers 831bhp and 1,400Nm. Thanks to four-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox, it’ll do 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds and hit 196mph. In addition to the searing performance, the car has an official fuel economy figure of 32.8mpg and CO2 emissions of less than 200g/km.

6 Nissan X-Trail Price: £27,000 On sale: 2022 The next version of the Nissan X-Trail was revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show earlier this year, but it’s not

7

coming to the UK until next year at least. The car is based on the CMF-C/D platform used by the Qashqai, and as before it’ll offer seating for seven. It’s been designed with hybrid power in mind, and from launch the SUV will be available with Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system. This drivetrain features a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor, plus a small battery pack. The engine doesn’t drive the wheels but merely tops up the battery to keep down running costs.

7 Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric Price: £35,000 On sale: 2022 Renault has already revealed the new Mégane E-Tech plug-in hybrid, but there will also be a pure-electric model by the end of 2022. Revealed at the Munich Motor Show earlier this year, it’s an SUV-inspired EV. It will use the CMF-EV platform, which is shared with the forthcoming Nissan Ariya SUV (below), so it will use a

60kWh battery pack and a 215bhp electric motor. This combination will give it a range of up to 280 miles on a single charge. Rapid charging at 130kW means that you can also add 124 miles of range in just half an hour. Slim batteries will mean it should be able to offer excellent interior space and practicality, too.

8 Land Rover Defender 130 Pick-up Price: £32,000 On sale: 2022 The Land Rover Defender range is set to expand with the introduction of a new 130 variant, which will offer a longer wheelbase than the existing 90 and 110 models. This will translate to extra interior space for passengers and up to eight seats inside. A commercial variant is also expected to join the range, and the Defender pick-up will use the long wheelbase of the 130 model with an open bed at the back. It will take on higher-spec versions of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.

HOROSCOPES

Aries

(March 21 - April 19)

As of the 16th, Venus in Capricorn does not facilitate emotional outpourings, and you are frustrated by the surrounding coldness. Don’t be hurt by this and take advantage of this period to refocus on more sincere relationships.

Taurus

(April 20 - May 20)

Gemini

(May 21 - June 20)

Cancer

(June 21 - July 22)

Mars in Scorpio from the 11th joined by Mercury from the 15th are formidable weapons for you. You will pulverize obstacles and opponents. Between the 18th and the 22nd - Saturn urges you to let go of a heavy commitment. You keep your spirits up thanks to your loved ones, but you are struggling. You feel you are not up to the challenges you face. Stress and sometimes discouragement assail you. You especially need sleep. Disconnect on weekends to give yourself some real rest! From the 14th, the Sun and Mars, then Mercury from the 6th, send you their best vibes. You will benefit from luck and efficiency. Your actions and speeches are noticed. You shine, especially around the 24th. Saturn and Jupiter are working all month long for your expansion.

Leo

(July 23 - August 22)

Saturn and Jupiter stimulate your ambitions. You feel capable of anything. That said, between the 18th and the 23rd, Mercury, Mars and Uranus require you to take a firm stand and react with discernment when faced with a complex situation, opponents or an obstacle to overcome. Rely on your inspiration!

Virgo

(August 23 - September 22)

Mars in Scorpio from the 17th and Mercury from the 20th increase your efficiency and your ability to bounce back, even in an emergency. Between the 22nd and the 28th, you could be asked to choose a job or a mission... It is not easy for you to decide, but your intuition will guide you to the right place.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)

Mars makes you belligerent all month long. You can’t stand being bossed around, you’re the boss! Moreover, you want to do everything on your own, and sometimes it’s difficult. Around the 19th, you are thinking of selling a property. In case of a transaction, try to keep your cool or everything will be cancelled.

Scorpio

(October 23 - November 21)

Don’t be too stubborn at work, otherwise you risk losing some deals, but also some support! Except on the 20th, you risk doing too much during interviews to the point of letting your doubts show. Instead, take advantage of this month to perfect your knowledge and avoid too many confrontations.

Sagittarius

(November 22 - December 21)

You are nervous, and you absolutely must let off steam physically to chase away any inner storm. Choose a sport that will make you sweat profusely, you need it. This is also a good time for therapy, as your cerebral nature needs to express what is wrong with you in order to get it out.

Capricorn

(December 22 - January 19)

You are in enviable shape and in good spirits, plus, all your senses are alert. Around the 19th, the Full Moon pushes you towards hedonism - you seek pleasure wherever you can find it in this chilly month, and it works out rather well for you. Various outings are a source of delight.

Aquarius

(January 20 - February 18)

From the 15th onwards, your love life takes a turn for the worse! The atmosphere around you is very tense, and you have to manage criticism with as much finesse as possible. As a result, you lose your patience, too. However, if a member of your household encounters difficulties, you will help them through.

Pisces

(February 19 - March 20)

You have excellent energy, but beware of a certain nervousness around the 27th, especially if you practice a rough sport. Don’t turn your hobbies into a biting competition. All month long, Jupiter invites you to relax, so take advantage of happy moments when they arise.
